Youngsters impress in mini-league events
Boston Tennis Club’s Indoor Centre is the setting for
the Lincolnshire Mini-Tennis Leagues that are held regularly throughout the
winter. These competitions allow youngsters to get some experience of
competitive tennis in a team format against other clubs. The last matches in
this league were held on March 25 when the boys’ green teams played. This
section has had two groups and their season ended with the play-offs between
the two groups. Boston boys finished in second place in their group and so
went in to the third and fourth place play-off against Lincoln’s David Lloyd
Centre, Burton Waters. It was a convincing win for the team of David Cheer,
Samuel Felipes, Zach McDonnell-Woods and Lewis Wyatt and so the team finished
third overall. The previous weekend the girls’ green team finished their
matches with a 7-3 win against Eastgate and Branston. The team on this
occasion was Lily Craven, Emma Mastin, Victoria Needham and Elizabeth Tracy.
The Junior National Club League has started up and the Boston girls’
under-12s side played Bourne. Some close games were played but the end result
was 6-0 to the Boston team of Rebecca Beardsley, Jessica Frankish, Emily
Hawkesworth and Astrid Preston.
Over the weekend of March 31 and April 1 the Boston adults begin their
matches in the Kia National Club League. In Division One, the ladies travel
to Leeds, while in Division Two the men are away to Holbrook, Suffolk. The ladies
second team, also in Division Two, are at home to local rivals Eastgate. While
the men’s third team playing in the County Division are at home to Ruston Marconi.
Meanwhile, Boston Tennis Club coach Andrew Cook acknowledged in appreciation
news that local insurance brokers Thompson and Richardson have become the club’s
main sponsors when agreeing a five-year deal.
