Counting down to winter league resumption

The second part of this season’s winter tennis league is about to start for Boston Tennis Club connections. Matches are about to resume with Boston B against Boston E, Boston D against Pilgrim Tennis Club, Boston C at home against Horncastle and Boston A team away against Billinghay. With teams completing fixtures in the first half of the season, most sides have only three matches remaining. The indoor courts mean that tennis can be played all year round, so fixture pile-ups can be avoided.

Meanwhile, the 2007 Kia National Club Tennis League fixtures have been released. The Boston Ladies team has gained promotion to the National Division One. Playing in the North Midlands region, the ladies play David Lloyd, Leeds, in their first match in March. With seven matches to play, the fixtures include teams from six counties. The ladies’ second team gained promotion from the County Division of the Kia National Club League in to the National Second Division.

Boston Tennis Club is the first club in Lincolnshire to have a team in the top two national divisions. The first match of the season is against Eastgate Ladies, with other fixtures against teams from Lancashire and Worcestershire. The Boston men are in the National Division Two and start the season with a match against Holbrook, Suffolk. Many of the teams in this league will be familiar, including West Bridgford, Nottingham and Watchorn and Alfreton.

Lincolnshire Mini Tennis League takes place on most weekends throughout the winter. Boston teams were involved recently. Playing for the girls’ green team against teams from Tennis Buddies and Deeping/Bourne were Alice Tetther, Megan Edmonds, Morgan Dodd, Scarlett McPhillips and Julia Matesova. Matches were close and experience was gained but wins eluded the girls. There was a similar story for the boys’ orange team. They competed against teams from Grantham and Deeping/Bourne. Playing for Boston, on this occasion, were Samuel Felipes, Luke Macleod, Myles Bero and Joseph Gray.

John leads way in singles contest

At Boston Tennis Club, the January grouping for the Bombay Brasserie Winter Singles Day League sees the likes of John Fisher, Richard Tupper, Chris Mepham and Tim Moorhouse competing for honours. Fisher leads the way on 15 points, two ahead of main rival Tupper.

Group Two sees Richard Walker, Rod Horne and Bob Haddow on one side of the league, the other half of the division featuring Phil Cosgriff, Chris Cook and Michael Sweeney.

Elsewhere, for players not involved in the top two groups, Charles Tupper leads the way with 60 game wins to his name. Hedley Muscroft has collected 59 wins while others among the leading lights are Jacky Warren (58) and Bev Parker (57).

Elsewhere, a late result has altered the picture in the Boston and District Winter Tennis League. The latest table now sees Boston C climb to second place. Louth are top and Boston B are second. The result causing the switch saw Boston C (Joan Beale, Jenny Grant, Tricia Sweeney and Rachel Brook) being victorious against Rochford.
