In the summer singles day league at Boston Tennis Club, sponsored by the Bombay Brasserie, the leader board has Jeremy George-Jones out in front with 17 points. His nearest opposition is Richard Tupper on 10 points. Both these players are in group one of the league for the month of August. Also in this group are Phil Cosgriff (nine points on the leader board) and Chris Cook (four points). Also in joint third position is Chris Mepham (nine points) who plays Sushil Kumar and Tim Moorhouse this month. John Fisher is in fourth place with seven points and plays Peter Elphick (four points) along with Sev Smura.

In the Lincolnshire League, Boston Tennis Club men’s first team regained the championship despite losing the last match of the season. Clear at the top of Division One with 12 points from six win before their final match, the Boston team had enough in hand to secure the title. Despite atrocious weather, more suited to autumn, the first team travelled to Grimsby Tennis Centre to finish the season with a match against the second team. Playing for Boston on this occasion were Andrew Cook, Richard Cook, Sam Kemp, Michael Emery, Chris Sweeney and Louis Warren. It was a close match but Grimsby Tennis Centre’s second team had the edge to win 5-4.

Two other matches in the Lincolnshire League played at the weekend were home matches able to take advantage of the club’s indoor centre. The men’s third team, lying mid-table in Division Two of the Lincolnshire League, played Scotter and won 7-2. The team was Ray Frankish, Matthew Gibson, Clive Green, Callum Simmons, James Gregory and Robert Linnell.

The ladies’ third team has played the last two matches of the season on consecutive weekends. a match last weekend was narrowly lost 4-5 to Appleby Frodingham. Playing for the third were Helen Cook, Ashleigh Frankish, Hazel Walker, Hilary Calvert, Rachel Brook and Liz Hewitt. The match was a close one that stood at 4 all in the last round and the final rubber went to a third set tie-breaker that Appleby Frodingham won 12-10. However, the ladies third team — back in action this weekend — had a good win against Colingham to finish the season. The result was 6-3 to the Boston team of Helen Cook, Hilary Calvert, Ashleigh Frankish, Hazel Walker, Sandra White and Rachel Brook.  Although the final match of the season for the thirds, the team’s final position depends upon results of matches yet to be played.
