Round-up for September 23

 

Title success came the way of Boston Swimming Club when their A team collected the Anglian League title.

 

The squad clinched crowning glory by virtue of ensuring joint second place in the competition’s final gala for the 2005-2006 season. That position was enough to earn a final league points tally of 29 get the better of meet winners City of Norwich who ended the campaign as runners-up on 26 points.

 

King’s Lynn were third on 25 with St Ives netting 23 points for fourth place and Louth fifth with 22.

 

On the competition’s concluding night at the Geoff Moulder Leisure Pool, it was Norwich who set the early pace with Boston adrift in fourth place for a while. But steadily points were harvested on a more profitable basis to sign off on 94 — the same total as King’s Lynn and eight behind City of Norwich.

 

The Boston strength was in providing a rich harvest of second and third places to supplement race wins by Nathan Sargeant (boys open 50m backstroke), Joe Morris (boys 15-and-under 100m breaststroke), Laura swain (girls 15u 200m individual medley) and Joseph Howe (boys 13u boys 100m breaststroke).

 

Personal best times were set by: Patrick Ikhena (2), Jessica Murfin, Ben Warren, Amelia Murfin, Nathan Sargeant, Joe Morris, Mark Tebbs, Paige Royce (2), Jemma Tointon and Joseph Howe.  

 

The squad, led by joint captains Nathan Sargeant and Ruth Singleton, collected the championship trophy at the conclusion of proceedings.

 

On the same evening, the Boston B team rounded off their Anglian League term with a hugely creditable third place on 104 points in their gala at Downham Market against the host club (73 points), Wisbech (123 points), Norwich Swans (106 points) and March (50 points).

 

The Boston contingent (with a plethora of important second and third positions in addition to three race wins) were always up the pace as the leading three clubs battled hard for leading status — eventually secured by Norwich.

 

Heat victories went to: Sam Wright (boys open 100m individual medley), Kayleigh North (girls 13u 200m individual medley) and Eleanor Reed (girls open 50m butterfly).

 

Personal best times were set by: Sam Wright, Zak Lomas, Kayleigh North and Elvijs Roberts.

 

Round-up for September 9

 

Gala success came the way of the A-team representing Boston Swimming Club in their first Fenland League fixture of the new season. They finished with a victory score of 151 points from the event staged in Thetford.

 

The Boston squad found themselves trailing early on in the five-team contest — by a substantial 15-point margin a third of the way through the programme as Wisbech set the pace on 49 points to Saxons’ 46 and Boston’s 34 in third spot. But gradually, numerous event wins were strung together (16 out of the concluding 26 races) which, in addition to seven second placings and three thirds saw Boston claw back the deficit and power through to ultimate triumph.

 

Final points: Boston 151, Wisbech 128, Saxons 124, Ely 100, March 61.

 

Race wins were achieved by the following:

 

Girls: Paige Royce (12s-and-under 4x25m individual medley and 13u 4x25m individual medley), Abigail Teague (10u 50m breaststroke), Amelia Murfin (12u 50m backstroke), Stephanie Goodale (12u 50m breaststroke and 12u 50m butterfly), Kimberley Van Haren (13u 50m freestyle), Megan Sargeant (10u 25m butterfly),

 

Boys: Jack Ross (10u 50m backstroke), Elvijs Roberts (12u 50m backstroke), Brendan Clark (13u 50m butterfly), Jordan Butler (10u 50m freestyle), Oliver Street (11u 50m backstroke), Joshua Teague (12u 50m breaststroke), Ikhuemose Ikhena (13u 50m freestyle), Reuben Reed (11u 50m breaststroke), Henry Careless (13u 4x25m individual medley).

 

Relays: 9 years 4x25m medley team.

 

Personal best times were recorded by: Paige Royce, Henry Careless, Abigail Teague, Megan Sargeant (two), Jack Ross, Elvijs Roberts, Brendan Clark, Jordan Butler, Oliver Street, Ikhuemose Ikhena, Kimberley Van Haren and Reuben Reed.

 

On the same night over at Whittlesey, Boston’s B-team also contested Fenland League spoils. The squad performed with credit against A-team opponents from Bottisham, Chatteris, Downham Market and Peterborough. And 79 points in fifth place represented a creditable return.

 

Final points: Peterborough 172, Downham 122, Bottisham 109, Chatteris 95, Boston B 79.

 

Boston managed two race wins, achieved by: Kieran Edmonds (boys 11u 50m butterfly) and Robert Price (boys 13u 4x25m individual medley).

 

Personal best times were achieved by: Scott Richmond, Luke Jones (two), Kieran Edmonds (two), Natasha Berg, Robert Price (two), Timothy Johnson (two), Susannah Yielding, Emma Penniston, Morgan Dodd and Sofia Parla.
