Round-up for November 25

 

Earlier in the sporting calendar, Boston Swimming Club took top honours in the annual Gerry Gibbons Memorial Trophy gala at Spalding.

 

The team harvested a total of 170 points to finish ahead of four rival squads, ultimately winning by a 23-point margin.

 

Boston were well served throughout by all of their swimmers, highlights being victories in 17 of the meet’s 39 heats.

 

Team members achieving event wins were as follows:

 

Boys: Zach McDonnell-Woods (9u 50m backstroke), Reuben Reed (11u 100m breaststroke), Alex French (13u 100m butterfly), Nathan Sargeant (open 100m freestyle), Jack Ross (9u 50m breaststroke), Ben Warren (11u 100m butterfly), Sam Reed (13u 100m freestyle), Mark Tebbs (open 100m backstroke), Joshua Teague (13u 100m backstroke), Zak Lomas (13u 100m breaststroke).

 

Girls: Hollie Royce (9u 50m breaststroke), Amelia Murfin (11u 100m butterfly), Kimberley Van Haren (13u 100m freestyle, 13u 100m backstroke), Rebecca Craven (11u 100m freestyle).

 

Relays: Mixed 9/11 4 x 25m medley squad, mixed8 x 25m squad.

 

Personal best times were recorded by many of the Boston contingent.

 

These were: Megan Sargeant, Zach McDonnell-Woods, Paige Royce, Jessica Murfin, Alex French, Nathan Sargeant, Hollie Royce, Amelia Murfin, Ben Warren, Sam Reed, Mark Tebbs, Natasha Berg, Adam Clark, Joshua Teague, Kimberley Van Haren, Joshua Van Haren, Morgan Dodd, Charlie Lay, Susannah Yielding and Oliver Street.

 

Overall gala points: Boston 170, South Lincs 147, Deeping R 139, Deeping G 115, Wisbech 113.

 

Round-up for November 11

 

Important Speedo League points were up for grabs for Boston Swimming Club at their latest gala at the Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex.

 

The meet was convincingly won by Northampton on 271 points, but there was plenty of keen competition for the minor placings.

 

In the end, Boston had to settle for fourth spot on 177 points, 23 ahead of Sherwood Colliery but seven adrift of third placed Lowestoft and 31 behind runners-up City of Milton Keynes (208 points).

 

Highlights for Boston were a clutch of fine race victories.

 

These went to Ben Pogson (boys 15u 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle), Ikhuemose Ikhena (boys 10-11 years 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke) and Zak Lomas (boys 13u 100m backstroke).

 

Personal best times were achieved by: Girls, Kathryn Sperring, Susannah Yielding, Kimberley Van Haren, Amelia Murfin, Jessica Murfin and Laura Swain; boys, Frazer Overton, Zak Lomas (2), Ben Pogson (3), Ikhuemose Ikhena (2), Sam Wright, Reuben Reed, Sam Wright and Patrick Ikhena.
