Round-up for July 14

A and B team squads from Boston Swimming Club competed for Fenland League rewards in the run-up to the summer break in action schedules.

The A team were involved in a meet at Cambridge where — in the end — they had to admit second best to the host club in a closely contested fixture, notably with Boston and Grantham vying throughout the 39-race programme alongside the eventual victors.

One third of the way through Boston held a two-point lead. Thirteen races later, however, Cambridge had edged ahead with Grantham in second spot. But in the closing throes Boston managed to gather enough points to claim runners-up spot with the final gala tallies being: Cambridge 149, Boston 124, Grantham 116, Wisbech 98, Bottisham 77.

Races successes for Boston were achieved by the following:

Paige Royce (13u 50m backstroke), Hannah Macleod (11u 50m butterfly, 10u 50m freestyle, 10u 25m butterfly), Molly Wright (13u 50m breaststroke), Harriet Housam (12u 50m backstroke), Elvijs Roberts (13u 50m breaststroke) plus the mixed 9 years freestyle relay team.

Personal best times were recorded by Kieran Edmonds, Mantas Knisevskis, Paige Royce, Brandon Whitham, Elvijs Roberts, Abigail Teague, Harry Dean-Allen, Susannah Yielding, Stephanie Goodale and Hannah Macleod.

On the same evening, Boston’s B team were in Fenland action at March where, despite valiant effort, they had to settle for fifth place — but only three points adrift of Ely in third spot.

In the end, it was the Saxons team who prevailed to win with 149 points. King’s Lynn were second on 134 while Boston’s total of 91 was only a fraction off Ely (95) and March (92).

Boston gained two race wins — by Katy Tointon (10u 50m butterfly) and Zach McDonnell-Woods (10u 50m backstroke).

Personal best times were achieved by: Luke Jones (2), George Needham, Zach McDonnell-Woods (2), Hollie Royce, Megan Coleman and Emma Penniston.
