Round-up for December 9 Speedo League points were up for grabs when Boston
Swimming Club tackled the latest round of competitive action. As in previous galas, the opposition packed plenty of
strength. But the Boston squad took credit in attaining a fourth placed
finish in the six-team event stages at the Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex. Boston harvested a total of 178 points from the
programmed 50 heats—enough to end up clear of rivals Louth and Lowestoft, but
just adrift of third placed Cleethorpes and District who in turn trailed
Modernian and meet winners King’s Lynn. For their efforts, Boston enjoyed a fair percentage of
race victories — 12 in all, representing nearly a quarter of the evening’s
events. However, they were never quite able to keep pace with a strong Lynn
outfit. But there was still plenty of home credit. On the individual front, race successes went to Patrick
Ikhena (boys’ 13u 100m breaststroke and 13u 100m butterfly), Kimberley Van
Haren (girls’ 10-11s 50m butterfly), Ikhuemose Ikhena (boys’10-11s 50m
butterfly and 10-11s 50m breaststroke), Zak Lomas (boys’ 13u 100m backstroke)
and Jessica Murfin (girls’ 13u 100m butterfly). On a collective basis, there were also wins for a clutch
of relay squads, namely the boys’ 9-11s 4 x 50m freestyle, boys’ 13u 4 x 50m
medley, boys’ 9-11s 4 x 50m medley and boys’ 15u 4 x 50m medley teams. During the meet, the following Boston swimmers
established personal best times: Molly Wright (2), Zak Lomas (2), Mark Tebbs,
Patrick Ikhena (3), Claire Hills and Laura Swain. Final points: King’s Lynn 206, Modernian 191,
Cleethorpes and District 181, Boston 178, Louth 166, Lowestoft 126. |
