Round-up for April 29 and 30 Patrick
establishes two new records There was
a double record-breaking feat achieved by Boston Swimming Club member Patrick
Ikhena at the Tulip Open meet in Spalding when he established two new
championship best times. The
youngster set the landmark times in the 12 years 100m butterfly and the 100m
breaststroke, beating the previous best times by 2.06 seconds and 1.09
seconds respectively.
All
told, the sizeable Boston contingent at the event weighed in with 18 gold
medals, a plethora of other podium finishes, numerous top six finishers
across the full range of all disciplines and added a welter of personal best
performances.
Backstroke:
9 years 50m, 5 Rebecca Craven 43.27 seconds; 10 years 100m, 3 Kimberley
Van Haren 1 min 23.18 seconds; 11 years 100m, 6 Amelia Murfin (disq); 12
years 100m, 5 Jessica Murfin 1.19.12; 14 years 100m, 5 Eleanor Reed 1.25.66,

Round-up for April 22 & 23 Anglian League first
and third for A and B teams First and third places were the rewards for
Boston Swimming Club’s A and B teams in the latest round of the Anglian
League programme. The A squad accumulated 113 points in achieving
victory in their meet at March. Meanwhile, the B team finished third in their
gala at Wisbech with 84 points. The A team were always in control of their gala
at March, victories in the first two races for Ben Pogson and Rebecca Price
(in their respective 100m individual medleys) putting them on their way.
Later on, Frazer Overton and then Molly Wright won the boys’ and girls’
13-and-under 100m freestyle contests. At the one-third mark Boston were eight points
clear of nearest challengers Louth. Their progress was maintain with further heat
wins for Joshua Teague (boys’ 13u 200m IM), Brendan Clark (boys’ 13u 100m
backstroke), Kayleigh North (girls’ 13u 100m backstroke) and Laura Swain
(girls’ 13u 100m butterfly). A Slight dip in returns in the later stages saw
Boston pegged back to share the lead on 95 points with St Ives. But then three wins in the final four events
brought dividends in the shape of overall success. This trio of race wins
came from Jessica Murfin (girls 15u 100m backstroke), Alex French (boys’ 100m
breaststroke) and the mixed 6 x 50m freestyle relay team. Personal best times were recorded by: Ben Pogson,
Patrick Ikhena (3), Frazer Overton, Molly Wright, Jessica Murfin (2), Joshua
Teague, Kayleigh North and Laura Swain. Final points: Boston A 113, St Ives
107, King’s Lynn 102, Louth 94, March 42. Over at Wisbech, the B team produced a creditable
display to secure third spot against some strong opposition in a five-team
contest. The Boston squad packed in plenty of second and third places — in
addition to race wins for Katy Thorn (girls’ 15u 100m butterfly) and
Kimberley Van Haren (girls’ 15u 200m IM)
— en route to their final tally. There were personal best times for: Leah West,
Elvijs Roberts, Jemma Tointon, Ben Warren, Grace Pike (2), Katy Thorn, Mark
Tebbs, Heather Guy (2), Emma Penniston, Rachael Albrighton, Kimberley Van

Round-up for April 8 Plenty of medals
success at open meet There
was a bumper haul of medals for Boston swimmers who contested the annual
Peterborough Open meet. Sixteen golds, 12 silvers and 16 bronze awards came
the way of the 35-strong contingent that tackled the two-day event. Boston
