Boston Barracuda-Braves officials are carefully preparing their plans for the 2006 speedway season. Club chairman Stephen Lambert has been in discussions with co-promoters Mick Smith and Malcolm Vasey to outline the club’s strategies for next summer where they will again race from their exiled base of the Norfolk Arena in King’s Lynn.

Lambert said: “We’ve made one or two changes and Mick in particular will take on some new duties next season. But it will be very much business as usual as far as supporters are concerned. Our main race night will be on a Friday with a slightly later start. There are a number of reasons for this and in the end we feel this is the best path for our club.

“We will have a riders’ parade at 7.30pm and the first race 15 minutes later. We aim to continue to provide really good value for money with a slightly better deal for the children on the cards.

“Malcolm remains responsible for team affairs and we have one or two fresh ideas in mind but will not progress matters too much further until we know what the grades are for next season. One of the problems is that, at the moment, there could be fewer teams than last season that might affect the points limit. That has to be decided. We intend to be very competitive and we won’t commit ourselves until we know the framework for the grades and points totals.”

Lambert and Braves’ sponsor Carlton Williams have also met officials of South Holland District Council offices with on-going attempts to find a new home for the team. So far, various moves have proved unsuccessful — both in the Boston and Spalding areas.

But Lambert said: “We had a useful exchange of views and the council seem quite upbeat for us to re-locate to their area. They have promised to check out one or two potential sites and I get the feeling that if we could just find the right place that we would be welcomed as part of Spalding’s developing infrastructure. This could be really hopeful news for our supporters.”
