World Cup 2006 SCORECAST LEAGUE The World Cup Scorecast League is a football predictions competition run as a spin-off to the annual domestic soccer orientated Scorecast League contest (forms for the 2006-2007 season should be available in late June). Profits from this competition will be divided between Boston Cricket Club and Boston Swimming Club. Entrants featured in the main table below have completed forms before the start of the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Points from group matches are accumulated on the basis of FIVE for an exactly correct scoreline prediction or THREE if only the correct result (home, away or draw) is indicated. Additional regular bonus points are added during the season (details featured below). Overall end-of-competition cash prizes (£300 in total) are as follows: Winner: £120 Runner-up: £90 Third: £60 Fourth: £30

FINAL SUMMARY (updated July 11): So, it’s all over at last! After careful compilation of all the final standings, the World Cup Scorecast league honours list has been decided. Overall champion is Alan Singleton whose triumph is all the more remarkable given the combined background of his heightening senior citizen status and the fact that he is a long-time Derby County follower! Micky Campbell came with a late flourish to snatch second spot from Boston’s eccentric “Little Pink Lady” Sarah Goodale who perhaps ought to invest her £60 winnings on tablets to ease her queasiness at finishing at such dizzy heights! Husband Andy and daughter Stephanie still can’t believe how “Fit-Bird Slim” has left 251 other football experts trailing. Fourth spot prize money of £30 has been shared by Arnold Higgins and Brian Taylor. Congratulations to all prize winners (who will be contacted to arrange cash handovers) and commiserations to wooden spoonist Margaret Curley who, only two years ago was champion of the main English season Scorecast League competition.
