News for week ending Sunday September 10 Pigeon racing’s outstanding husband and wife partnership,
Frank and Ann Tasker, of Wainfleet, re-wrote the record books when winning
the North Road Championship Club’s young bird and old hens’ national races
from Dunbar on Saturday. The young bird success saw them equal the record of four
wins held by the late Don Larthwell, of Skegness, and the win in the old
hens’ race took their total of NRCC victories to a new record of five
overall. They took first and second places in the young bird national and
will fill many more leading positions when the final results are published. In completely dominating this race they had 50 of their
62-bird entry home between 1.38pm, when they timed the winner, and 2.20pm -
before some fanciers had registered their first bird. The names of F and A
Tasker will be spread liberally among the first 20 in the open result. In
third place was another local fancier, Richard Quibell, of Horncastle, while
Alec Sanderson, of Firsby, also had a well-placed bird. John Hardy, of the
in-form Hardy and Troops partnership, had the first bird into Boston. In the old hens’ race the Taskers took first and third
places, their two timers being separated by a bird belonging to Paul and Jane
Newbold, of PJ Lofts from Friskney. They, however, had to give second best in
the young bird result to their 11-year-old daughter Jessica. Mr and Mrs Bob
Boulton, registering their ninth club win of the season, had the best young
bird into Skegness. In the young bird national there was an entry of 2,426
birds from 224 members; the old bird national had an entry of 291 from 61
fanciers. Provisional top 20 in the young bird race, based on the
loft’s first verified arrival but not taking into account any subsequent
timings, were: F and A Tasker, Wainfleet, 1239.54, R Quibell, Horncastle,
