News for week ending Sunday May 28

The second of the national races that local pigeon fanciers will be trying to win comes up this weekend (June 3 and 4). They will be competing from Perth with the North Road Championship Club at a time when several potential contenders are running into form. Fanciers like Geoff and Bridget Clare, Brian and Angie Garnham, Carl Upsall and Trevor Frost, Mr and Mrs Bob Boulton, Frank and Ann Tasker, Kevin and Barbara Smith (all past national winners), must be pleased with the way their birds have performed in recent weeks, including the past weekend when they were competing from Whitley Bay. But the ace in the pack on Saturday (May 27) was Martin Sharpe, winner of the Candlesby club, with a velocity of 1449 yards per minute that could win him top honours in the Peterborough and District Federation. A good omen for the Perth national, perhaps?
