Pigeon racing news for week ending May 28/29, 2005

Fanciers from Louth dominated the first classic pigeon race of the season organised by the North Road Championship Club, and top of the list from Perth was the outstanding partnership of Robert and Geoffrey Mamwell. Not only did they win it, but they also took second place, and will have a third pigeon featuring prominently in the completed result.

The Mamwell Brothers are no strangers to NRCC success, having won the Arbroath race in 2002 and their name has been liberally scattered on the result sheet of many other of this top club's races.

Boston and District area pigeon fanciers raced from Dunbar on May 21 when birds were released in a fresh south-west wind and then met heavy rain before reaching home. The head wind and stormy weather made this 230-plus mile trip the hardest
race of the season.

Pigeon racing news for weekend May 7/8, 2005

A strong north-west wind gave pigeons a tremendous helping hand in May 7 races on the north route.

Clubs affiliated to Peterborough and District Federation were competing from Bishop Auckland and the fastest bird into local territory belonged to Kevin and Barbara Smith who topped the Skegness club result with a velocity of 2155 yards per minute. Clubs competing with Peterborough Central Federation were racing from Whitley Bay and the speeds here were topping the 1900 ypm mark.

It was much tougher, though, for birds competing in races from the opposite direction. They had to face the wind from their Eastbourne race point but that did not stop veterans, Mr and Mrs Ted Attwater, from Wrangle, winning for the third time out of four races with the new Wheatsheaf club based at Eastville.
