Experienced Bob Boulton was the top fancier in the local area as pigeon clubs belonging to the Peterborough and District Federation competed from Whitley Bay in the fifth young bird race of the season on Saturday. And his winning velocity of 1416 yards per minute could well see him take Federation honours.

Pigeon racing news for week ending August 20/21, 2005

 

 

The pigeon that won Boston Central RPC’s race from Bishop Auckland for the Hardy and Troops partnership covered 137 miles 1517 yards in 124 minutes 32 seconds.

 

There were many other high velocities as the birds raced home at breakneck speed aided by Saturday's north wind, but nowhere could the excitement match that at the Friskney lofts of the Newbold family when 10-year-old Jessica beat mum and dad to register her first win in the Candlesby club.

Pigeon racing news for weekend August 13/14, 2005

 

Pigeon racing officials delayed the weekend young bird race from Northallerton for a day because of the bad weather forecast.

 

And fanciers had to wait until midday on Sunday for a liberation. There were fast returns in a strong north wind, but birds also hit some bad weather, especially those that were working back after overflying their lofts.

It was emphasised again on Saturday when he won the club race from Biggleswade when eight members sent 158 birds: J McFadyen 1547, D Driver 1469 and 1464, Mr and Mrs Akid 1447, J McFadyen 1427, D Driver 1407, J Downes and Grandson 1399, A Barlow 1379, J Downes and Grandson 1339, R Brown 1336.

Pigeon racing news for weekend August 6/7, 2005

 

PIGEONS racing from Bubwith on Saturday, for the second time this young bird season, were in a hurry to get back to their lofts, with mile-a-minute returns being commonplace.

 

But the birds of Chapel St Leonards aces, Kevin and Barbara Smith, were even faster as they took the first three places in the Skegness club, each of the three topping 1900 yards per minute.
