For week ending May 9
Spalding Sparks Yellow 17, Taz A 4: Although the first
quarter started slightly late, the game soon gained pace. Windy conditions impeded
goal scoring attempts but the players persevered and took advantage of
rebounds at both ends. Both teams had strong centre court play and the score
was even at half-time. The second half saw outstanding shooting and scoring
from Sparks’ Emma Hibbins, Jodie Clarke and Amy Vertannes. The Taz defence
was strong but not firm enough to stop Sparks taking the win. Players’ player
for Sparks Yellow was Lauren Weatherill and for Taz A was Heidi Fulcher. D Birds 0, BHS U17s 3: A late start left only a few
minutes of play in the first quarter. The windy conditions and the low
sun not helping the shooters at all and only seven goals scored in the first
half. Both teams battled against the weather as conditions did not improve.
Strong defence from both sides meant a low scoring game overall but with
d'birds taking the win. Players player for D Birds Angela Rawlinson and for
U17s was Chloe Turner. Black Bullettes 22, BHS U18s 7: A steady start to the
game with only three goals scored in the first quarter. Very windy and sunny
conditions made shooting and passing more difficult than usual. A close game
in the second quarter and with sound defence and accurate shooting Bullettes
pulled away. Good centre court play from both teams. Considering they were
behind the Under 18s did not give up and kept pushing for all goals they
could and taking loose balls throughout. A good game from both teams with
respectful and honest play from both teams. Players’ player for Black
Bullettes was Helen Pell and for U18s it was Danni Frankish. Boston A 16, Gems I 26: Players’ player for Boston A was
Vikki Odlin and for Gems I it was Nic Brennan. Taz B 11, Boston B 4: Players’ player for Taz B was
Emily Brader and for Boston B it was Mia Heaton. Gems II 9, Bridge View Flyers B 7: Players’ player for
Gems II was Charlotte Burrell and for Flyers B it was Danni Stanbury. |

For week ending April 26 Taz B 27, Bridge View Flyers A 14: The Taz B squad was out in force for the last game of the season. Support from the bench included injured Jenni Booth, Danni Carter, Vikki Wallis, Louise Brighton and “baby bump” Brighton, and Daniel. The match was going to be noisy if nothing else! Both teams made a good start with the Taz defence of Vicky Cooper and Sarah Dyche making it a hard job for Bridge View to reach their shooters Jane Hutson and Karen Johnson. Taz went into the second quarter two goals up and good shooting from Emily Brader and Chloe Skeritt meant the gap widened at half-time despite the efforts of the Bridge View defence of Bev Emanuelle and Debbie Winrow. The third quarter saw Taz centre court Helen Fulcher, Heidi Wharff and Emily Dix working hard and seeing them concede only two goals to Bridge View’s 10. Bridge View’s centre court, Jenny Briely, Nessa Droy working hard and despite the strong accurate passes from Rachel Moore, Bridge View were unable to catch up and Taz took the well deserved win and three points. A lovely competitive game with great sportsmanship on both sides. A get well soon goes to the injured players and best wishes for the forthcoming summer season. Players’ player for Taz B was Heidi Wharff and for Bridge View flyers it was Jane Hutson. |
|
For week ending April 19 Bridge View Flyers A 15, Donington 13: This game was guaranteed to be close. The first quarter
saw a low score of 2-1 to Bridge View, showing that both teams were working
hard. Shooting from Flyers’ Jane Hutson was superb from the edge of the
circle despite good defending from Dons’ Julie Oglville. Goals went one for
one in the second quarter with Bridge View unable to gain a comfortable lead.
Players moved around at half-time with both teams trying to get an extra
edge. Bridge View stepped the defence up with Bev Emanuelle and Jenny Briley
hindering shooters’ access to the circle and Penny Martin (home from
university) her usual outstanding self. Donington had a swap when moving Rosie
James into defence. The third quarter, however, still maintain a
goal-for-goal exchange ratio. Donington’s defence cleared any rebounds well
to Mel Bristow (the speeding bullet) in the centre .Dons’ Donna Lee and
Flyers’ Karen Johnson also scored well despite strong defence at both ends. A
superb game from both sides. Players’ player for Flyers A was Penny
Martin and for Donington it was Mel Bristow. Bridge View Flyers B 11, Spalding Sparks Red 21: The
first quarter was close with the teams well matched and determined to hold
the other back. The second half saw Sparks’ determination strengthen to pull
away with some outstanding shooting. Bridge View B put up a good fight with
some good interceptions from the defence . Sparks, however, showed they were
on form and pulling away well. An action-packed game with good play from both
sides leaving Sparks with a good win but Flyers gaining a well-deserved point
for 50 percent goal score. Players’ player for Flyers B was Lucy Kidby and
for Sparks Red it was Lisa Beck. Gems II 16, Taz B 9: Players’
player for Gems Ii was Kelly Slater and for Taz B it was Holly Medlock. BHS U17s 20, College 0: No report details. Taz A 20, D Birds 0: No report details. Boston B 20, BHS U16s 0: No report details. |

in the cold conditions. Boston, though, pulled away the end of the first
half, the score being 11-6. The third quarter was more evenly matched with
nine goals a piece (20-15). Final score was 26-18. Players’ player for Boston
A was Emily Moss and for Gems II, it was Emily Jakeman. |
|
For week ending April 5 D Birds 23, Bridge View Flyers
B 18: The first quarter saw D Birds take a good lead with all their shots on
goal. A good defence by Emma Shaw and Debs Wing made it difficult for Flyers
B to score. The second quarter saw good play by both teams with Flyers B

D Birds in attack. The first quarter saw D Birds upping the pace with Flyers
trying hard and scoring a few goals. Good team spirit was shown by both teams

For week ending March 27 BHS U18s 33, D Birds 13: A very fast paced game from the start with BHS U18s dictating the pace, DBirds played well in the first half but despite the defences best efforts it seemed like they were not stood there when BHS U18s were shooting. A fall in the third quarter by a D.Birds player lifted the mood as she bounced back. BHS U18s showed some good play and passing throughout the game. Players’ player for U18s was Sarah Clarke and for D Birds was Laura Burton. Boston A 26, Gems II 18:

Spalding Sparks Yellow 14: Players’ player for Sparks Green was Rachel
Davidson and for Sparks Yellow was Amy Vertannes Donington 0, Taz B 20: No
report details.
Taz A 24, BHS U17s 8: Taz were
playing strong and confident to gain a comfortable lead in the first half.

the end result. Players’ player for Black Bullettes was Emma Taylor and for
Gems II it was Vicky Sleaford. D Birds 6, Spalding Sparks Red

not go in. Good attacking by D Birds with Donna Holstead and Laura Burton
playing well together. An injury for Spalding Sparks Red changed their team
and D Birds was defending well against the change. Emma Shaw for D Birds played very well making it almost
impossible for Sparks shooters to enter the circle. A well deserved players player for Angela Rawlinson of D Birds
Players’ player for D Birds was Angela Rawlinson and for Sparks Red it was
Becky Fry. BHS U16s 22, College 13: A close
match with College taking the lead in the first half, very tense and tight
match but BHS U16’s won in the end. Players’ player for U16s was Amy Harrison
and for College it was Laura Bonner. |
|
For week ending March 13 Spalding Sparks Red 25, BHS U16s
10: Players’ player for Sparks Red was Enys Collin and for U16s it was Ashley
Frankish. Taz A 26, Bridge View Flyers B
17: A superb game with a friendly competitive edge. Bridge View Flyers went
into it knowing they were outclassed but it did not stop them aiming high for
the bonus point for scoring at least half of their rivals’ total goals. Taz A
have a mixed A and B squad but still a strong one and Bridge View B had
borrowed Debbie Winrow from the A team. The first quarter was hard fought at
both ends to give a low score of 2-1 to Taz. The second quarter saw Taz
pulling away with Emily Brader shooting well and accurately with Mandy
Stocks. Players’ player Helen Bristow working the centre court efficiently
and Vicky Cooper’s height was a definite advantage in defence. The third
quarter saw Taz still gaining the edge. Bridge View B worked hard by keeping
passes short to prevent the interceptions from Taz. Kelly Thomas did a good
job as keeper and clearing the rebounds well. The combination of Sophie and
Lucy Kidby in the Flyers’ circle, converting several opportunities to goals.
The last quarter was one-for-one scoring but Flyers could not bridge the gap.
But they gained the well deserved point. Players’ player for Taz A was Helen
Fulcher and for Flyers B it was Lucy Kidby. Gems 1 26, Gems 2 5: Players’

D Birds 25, BHS U17s 12: Good passing and attacking by D Birds saw them lead in the first quarter. Excellent defending emerged in the second quarter by D Birds with BHS U17s picking up the pace slightly. Both Nikki Kendrick and Karla Bristow’s shooting was superb for D Birds to keep them in a 13-4 lead at half-time. The third and final quarters were fast paced with both side having many shots. BHS U17s tried to make up some difference in the score line but D Birds managed to keep their healthy lead. Players’ player for D Birds was Laura Burton and for BHS U17s, it was Nicola Heckford. College, it was Laura Bonner. |
|
For week ending February 27 D Birds 25, College 1: D Birds dominated with some good attacking and shooting
by Karla Bristow and Nikki Kendrick. College fought well in the first half
and pushed D Birds hard. But unfortunately they failed to score in that half.
Efficient centre court play helped College in the second quarter but they
were no match for D Birds’ defensive play.
In the third quarter College came back with some good interceptions.
However, D Birds had already made a big break. D Birds’ attack were making
some excellent shots on target throughout the second half f the match,
although College started to regain some possession in the third and final
quarter to finally score. A very friendly game for all. Players’ player for D
Birds was Nikki Kendrick and for College, it was Sarah Thwaite. Bridge View Flyers A 13,
Spalding Sparks Yellow 23: The first quarter was well contested by both
sides. But sloppy passes from Flyers left Sparks 5-3 up. The second half was
much of the same with Flyers struggling to adapt the game to avoid Sparks’
excellent interception skills. Sparks’ mix of accuracy in centre court and in
the circle saw them 12-7 up at half-time. Flyers made team changes and
likewise Sparks in the second half, both hoping for more goals. Three-quarter
time saw Sparks lead 19-9 and Flyers had a last quarter roll to gain one goal
back giving sparks a nine-goal win. Players’ player for Bridge View Flyers
was Jane Hutson. Players’ player for Spalding Sparks was Amy Vertannes. Spalding Sparks Red 12, Boston
B 15: Closely contested early stages saw tight defending from both ends and
resulted in a 4-4 score after the first quarter. Things remained tight
throughout, however Boston B edged ahead with excellent shooting and build-up
play. The game remained close throughout. Following the second quarter,
Boston B managed to maintain their lead, a margin decisive enough for
victory. Players’ player for Sparks Red was Kiera Whybrow and for Boston B it
was Lisa Beck. Black Bullettes 16, Donington
3: No report. Players’ player for Donington was Mel Bristow. Spalding Sparks Green v Taz B:
No result or report. |
|
For week ending January 30 BHS U17s 27, Boston B 19: In the first quarter both
teams fought hard and U17s took the edge, taking a two-goal lead 6-4 in the
first quarter. With U17s only having five players, they still performed with lots
of energy and never lacked enthusiasm. The player in Goal Defence position
was defending with lots of energy and the team attacked well. Goal Attack
shot really well with majority of her goal attempts going in. Boston B worked
well as a team but the U17s gained massive goal difference and ended up
winning. Players’ player for BHS U17s was Lauren Rigby and for Boston B, it
was “Danny.” Spalding Sparks Yellow 13, Taz
B 8: A close first quarter but Sparks took the early lead. Tighter marking by
Sparks gave them the second quarter honours. The third quarter was better for
Taz with good defence. A close final quarter with three goals conceded on
each team but due to a strong first half Sparks took the game. Players’
player for Spalding Sparks Yellow was Bray Brook and for Taz B it was Jenni
Booth. Gems 2 28, Bridge View Flyers
A 13: Players’ player for Gems 2 was Emma Larking and for Bridge View Flyers
A it was Vanessa Droy. Bridge View Flyers B 22, BHS
U16s 13: Players’ player for Bridge View Flyers B was Lucy K and for BHS U16s
it was Kate B. Donington 15, Boston A 28:
Players’ player for Donington was Anna and for Boston A it was E Moss. Spalding Sparks Red 13,
College 7: Players’ player for Spalding Sparks Red was K Whybrow. |
|
For week ending January 23
Gems 1 29, Boston A 17: This
was a very fast game with both teams being evenly matched in the first half
and scoring frequently. Helen Stewart for Boston A was marking well but Jezz for
Gems 1 got all the shots on target. Gems 1 began to creep away in the second
quarter with good play. Gems 1 increased their lead in the third quarter but
the goals seemed to slow on both sides. The centres for both teams were
making use of the centre court moving freely but Gems 1 eventually took the
lead further to win. Players’ player for Gems 1 was Fiona Nixon and for
Boston A it was Jo Timby. Boston U18s 37, Bridge View
Flyers B 17: In the first half BHS U18s started really well by scoring a lot,
Bridge View Flyers B fought back but just couldn’t keep up with BHS U18s’
excellent shooting. They were both passing accurately but U18s seemed to be
getting the goal opportunities more than Flyers. U18s took every chance they
got to score. Flyers defended well but U18s still seemed to be getting past
them and scoring 19 goals to 7 in the first half. In the second half U18s
seemed to still be scoring more goals than flyers in the third quarter the
U18s scored 7 goals to Flyers’ 3.
Overall U18s were the better team and kept scoring and defending well
to stop a Bridge View Flyers B comeback. Players’ player for BHS U18s was
Danielle Frankish and for Bridge View Flyers B it was Lucy Kidby. D Birds 22, Boston B 2: D
Birds took an early lead in the first quarter with excellent shooting and
their defence only allowed Boston B one shot at goal. The second quarter was
fast paced with good centre court play by both teams. D Birds gained a
further lead with only one goal being scored by Boston B. D Birds’ attack Nikki
Kendrick and Karla Bristow were on form and went on to show a good working
partnership in the third quarter, although Boston’s defence were working
hard. Players’ player for D Birds was Laura Burton and for Boston B it was
Danni Pratt. Bridge View Flyers A 14,
Spalding Sparks Green 25: In the first half Sparks played well, the goals
went in with every chance they had. Flyers fought on but Sparks defended well
to stop Flyers from scoring. Flyers held their own in the second half and
matched Sparks goal for goal with Sparks only scoring one more. Although
Flyers played better in the second half the lead was already there for Sparks
for them to win. Players’ player for Bridge View Flyers A was Nessa Droy and
for Spalding Sparks Green it was Louise Broderick Black Bullettes 18, Spalding Sparks Yellow 17: An even looking match with Sparks just converting chances into goals in the first quarter. Bullettes came back in the second half of the match to create an even game with both teams playing well. A really close game with Bullettes just coming through to win by a one-goal margin. |
|
For week ending January 16
BHS U16s 24, U17s 15: Players’ player for the U16s was
Jess Holland and for the U17s, it was Rachel Upsall. Gems 1 33, Taz B 5: Players’
player for Gems 1 was Rachel Smith and for Taz B, it was Heidi Wharff Bridge View Flyers A 19,
Boston A 37: A
tough game for Flyers who have moved up a league after many seasons of going
close to the step-up. The first game of the new competition against Boston A,
a long established to league team, was always going to be hard. But Flyers
went in full of determination. The first quarter saw Boston charge ahead with
Flyers trailing. The height of Lynne Evans in the Boston circle and accuracy
of both shooters proved hard for Flyers to stop. Boston’s defence kept
Flyers’ shooters at bay despite the best efforts from Nessa Droy and Rachel
Moore. Boston’s Sarah Smith intercepted some passes to turn the direction of
play. Half-time saw Boston lead while the Flyers were a single goal off the
precious “half-goal score” point. Flyers then changed strategy when going for
the long passes from Debbie Winrow and Rachel Moore into the circle. This
worked well and gave Flyers a fighting chance for the elusive point. Boston’s
shooters were on superb form, converting every opportunity into a goal
scored. Flyers worked hard and managed to turn over a few of the Boston
centres but not enough to win. A lovely friendly, yet competitive game. Players’
player for Bridge View Flyers A was Debbie Winrow and for Boston A it was
Lynne Evans Bridge View Flyers B 12,
Boston B 12: No report details. Taz A 12, Boston College 6:
Players’ player for Taz A was Mandy Stocks and for Boston College it was Ruth
Scarborough. Gems 2 24, Donington 11: Players’
player for Gems 2 was Laura McRae and for Donington it was Julie Ogilvie. |
|
For week ending January 9
Taz B 14, Black Bullettes 20:
Taz B were going to have a tough match against the Bullettes. It was their
first taste of the A League and the Bullettes are a well-established top
section team. The Bullettes started with six players but still played in
their special style of long passing, fingertip catches and superb shooting.
Taz B had a different approach and with the extra player made good headway,
finishing the first quarter with a three-goal lead. The second quarter was
similar with the Bullettes having difficulty in keeping up with the Taz team.
Half-time saw Bullettes still trailing by two goals and Taz still proving
good opposition. A swap for Bullettes was then made with Shell Chapman and
Jess Clayton coming on and proving a wise move as the third quarter saw them
lead by two goals. Taz were by no means giving up and fought on until an
injury to Danni Carter forced a team swap and a swift Taz A substitute.
Bullettes were on form and took the win. But Taz B were not without the
ability to put up a good fight. Players’ player for Taz B was Heidi Wharff
and for Black Bullettes it was Laura Kitchen. BHS u16s 22, D Birds 16: This
was the first game back after the Christmas break for both teams but they
soon showed that the break had not affected their playing skills. The first
half of the game was a close fought affair with both teams attacking and
defending well. D Birds caught up in the third quarter to finish this part
only two goals behind. The final quarter was well played by both teams with
good passing throughout the court but BHS u16s took the lead to win. Players’
player for BHS u16s was Amy Harrison and for D Birds it was Laura Burton. BHS u18s 37, Spalding Sparks
Red 10: Players’ player for BHS u18s was Danni Frankish and for Spalding
Sparks Red the vote went to K Browne. |
|
For week ending November 28
Taz B
25, Bridge View Flyers B 5: This was Taz’s final game before the Christmas break
and, having been on good form recently, they were in high spirits. The game
started well with excellent attacking play from Heidi Wharff passing well
into the circle. However, good interceptions from Bridge View Flyers B
prevented more goals being scored. Good defending in the circle by Vicki
Wallis and Danni Carter enabled Taz B to bridge the gap. The second half saw
some excellent shooting from Chloe Skerritt and Emily Brader with excellent
support in centre court from Hollie Medlock and Emily Dix. Strong support and
good umpiring enabled Taz B to gain their sixth victory of the season so far.
Players’ player for Taz B was Heidi Wharff and for Bridge View Flyers B it
was Amy Taylor. Gems 2
0, D Birds 20: No report details. Boston
A 14, Gems 1 19: Players’ player for Boston A was Jo Timby and for Gems 1 it
was Fiona Nixon. BHS
U16s 36, Boston B 4: Players’ player for BHS U16s was Ashleigh Frankish and
for Boston B it was Danni Pratt. Black
Bullettes 24, Spalding Sparks Yellow 10: This was a very fast paced game from
the start with Black Bullettes showing their experience as playing as a team
for so long to take the lead with all shots on goal. Black Bullettes were in
the lead at half time with Spalding Sparks talking of fighting back in the
second half. The second half continued to be very fast but Spalding Sparks
Yellow seemed to pull something out of the bag. Although Black Bullettes had
the height advantage, Spalding Sparks worked hard to bring the score back. A
good fact paced game with excellent play by both sides. Players’ player for
Black Bullettes was Emma Taylor and for Spalding Sparks Yellow it was Annabel
Faulkner. Bridge
View Flyers A 23, College 11: Players’ player for Bridge View Flyers A was
Karen Johnson and for College it was Sophie Kitsen. |
|
For week ending November 21

Brown and for Boston B was Ruth Holmes.
Taz B 16, Bridge View Flyers A
30: Players’ player for Taz B was Emily Dix and for Bridge View Flyers A was
Jess Wilkinson. BHS U16s 13, BHS U17s 24: No

Fulcher. Spalding Sparks Green 27,
Spalding Sparks Yellow 11: Players’ player for Spalding Sparks Yellow was
Sophie Hallam. Gems 1 20, Gems 2 10: Players’
player for Gems 1 was Staci Worth and for Gems 2 was Michelle Robinson. |
|
For week ending November 14
Spalding Sparks Green 46, BHS
U18s 15: With a fast paced game, both teams worked hard to maintain
possession. Spalding Sparks Green’s accurate shooter managed to gain the
upper hand and helped her side into an early lead. Although BHS U18s tried
their best and were tight, Spalding Sparks Green pulled away and eventually
won the match. Players’ player for Spalding Sparks Green was Emma Hibbins and
for BHS U18s it was Danni Frankish. Spalding Sparks Yellow 19, Boston
A 20: Players’ player for Spalding Sparks Yellow was Siviwie and for Boston A
it was Cathering Lister. Bridge Flyers B 31 Boston B 5:
Players’ player for Bridge Flyers B was Lucy Kidby and for Boston B it was
Emma Beck. This was a long-awaited win for Flyers B. The team finally appears
to be coming together and is showing good spirit. Flyers started well and
there was some excellent circle work by the Kidby sisters, whose efforts
helped to convert centre court possession into goals. Kelly Martin and Abbi
Tilly really began to work well as a defensive team. Boston B are a young and
still new team and are trying very hard and showing some good moves. Both
teams had trouble catching the balls cleanly, causing many loose balls and
giving Flyers extra opportunities. A well played game from both teams. Taz A 22, D Birds 18: Good
play by both teams with Taz A leading at the end of the first quarter 8-2. D
Birds came back strongly to catch up in the second quarter with excellent
shooting on target. Both teams worked hard and both displayed accurate
shooting once in the circle. D Birds fought hard to catch up the score. Taz A
gained a goal to keep their lead followed quickly with another. This put them
safely ahead. D Birds battled on and got back a couple of goals. Taz A kept
the lead to win. Players’ player for Taz A was Mandy Stocks and for D Birds
it was Laura Burton. Spalding Sparks Red 10,
Donington 22: Donington’s attack was on form with WA Donna Lee feeding some
good long passes over to Kim Fletcher. But Spalding Sparks defended well. The
second quarter saw no team changes for either side and centre court play was
very competitive with some good interceptions from both Spalding Sparks Red
and Donington. The third quarter was fairly even with not many goals being
scored, although Donington made a few changes to the team at this time. The
final quarter saw both teams make drastic changes with Spalding Sparks Red
bring on two A league players but they couldn’t match Donington’s strength. A
well played game by both teams. BHS U17s 12, College 12: No
match details. |
|
For week ending November 7 Bridge View Flyers B 20,
Boston College 16: Players’ player for Bridge View Flyers B was Sophie Kidby
and for Boston College, it was Lucy Brentnall. BHS U18s 10, Gems A 44:
Players’ Player for U18s was Danni Frankish. Boston A 38, D Birds 5: The
first half of the game saw centre play very event between both teams with
defensive work from both sides. Great shooting from Boston A saw them convert
them easily. The second half saw D Birds fight back but failed to get the
ball in while it seems Boston A’s experience and fast pace helped them in the
game. All-in-all, it was a good, quick game. Players player for Boston A was
Helen Stewart and for D Birds, it was Laura Burton. BHS U16s 16 Bridge View Flyers
A 38: Players’ player for BHS U16s was Katy Baxter. Taz B 12, Donington 18: Both
teams knew this was an important match, both having yet to be defeated by any
other teams in the B League. With Taz B having the stamina of a young team in
their favour, Donington had the advantage of an experienced team having
played together for many years. The first quarter got off to a
competitive start with both teams shooting accurately, defending well and
generally a high level of play throughout the court. Donington took the lead
by one goal as Chloe Skerritt and Emily Brader attempted to match the goal
for goal scoring despite the defence of Rosie James and Julie
Ogleville being a tough wall to get through. Jenni Booth and Danni
Carter showed fantastic persistence in the circle as they defended Doningtons
shooters Donna Lee and Kim to keep the goal difference to a one goal for
the half time score. The second half proved to be an equally matched and
well-fought game. Hollie Medlock and Heidi Wharff had some brilliant
interceptions to deter the ball from Donington’s shooting circle. Emily Dix
provided excellent support to the defenders at all times. The final score
being a loss to Taz B was disappointing as they fought so well throughout the
game. However, they proved to Donington, formerly an A League team, they
weren't going to be easily beaten. A superb game. Players’ player
for Taz B was Emily Brader and for Donington, it was Tanya Holstead. Gems 2 9, Black Bulletts 18:
Players’ player for Gems 2 was Jess West and for Black Bulletts, it was Laura
Kitchen. |
|
For week ending October 24 BHS U18’s 34, D Birds 12: In
the first quarter the BHS Shooters were very good, D Birds also had good
shooting opportunities, but BHS took charge. Good passing throughout the
first quarter with excellent shooting from both teams in this quarter and the
second quarter. Some more passing by both teams then saw BHS increase the
lead by a few goals. But there was no sign of surrender by D Birds. BHS
dominated the third quarter with the changes made by D Birds showing to their
disadvantage although BHS had brilliant shooting and passing around the
circle. D Birds played well with some good passes in the last quarter with
very accurate shooting by both teams. Players’ player for BHS U8s was Katie

took an early lead with accurate passing around the circle, making their
shots count. Boston A played well in the second half but couldn’t seem to
stop Black Bulletts from going further ahead to win. Players’ player for
Boston A was Sarah Smith and for Black Bullets the accolade went to Claire Kitchen. Taz A 1, Gems 1 24. Spalding Sparks Red 9 Bridge
View Flyers A 20: A very windy night with a bit of rain thrown in meant
shooting was hard and the grip underfoot not too clever. Both teams prepared for
a miserable night but the pace was good, keeping the players warm but not
dry. Wet balls were slippery to catch and they didn’t bounce in puddles.
These factors, coupled with the fact the wind blew long passes off court
meant teams had to think strategically. A fast pace with excellent play from
both sides. Flyers had to rely on Kelly Martin and Bev Emanuelle to help out
from the B team. Flyers set off well with just six players due to a traffic
hold-up with Sparks showing great skill for a relatively new team.
Sparks didn’t make too many errors, Danni shooting well for them. The
first quarter saw Flyers just in front and their seventh player arrived to
complete the line-up. Sparks worked well in centre court and in the circles
but the experience of Flyers as a team just had the edge over them. Flyers
gradually increased the lead throughout to win. Players’ player for Spalding
Sparks Red was wing defence and for Bridge View Flyers A, it was Jane Hutson. Spalding Sparks 17, Green v
Gems 2 20: Players’ player for Spalding Sparks Green was Emma Hibbins and for
Gems 2 it was Staci Worth. Donington 25, College 7. Taz B 17, BHS U17 6: Players’ player for Taz B was Heidi Warff and for BHS U17s, it was Jade Rigby. |

after the first quarter. There was some good shooting by the School’s Rachel
Upsall while Lauren Rigby did the running centre court supported by Ellouise
(Egg) Middleton on the wing. The second quarter saw Bridge View changing
around and showing an improvement with Karen Johnson on the wing and
super-sub Sophie Kidby shooting really well. The third quarter saw Flyers
tiring and the School making a comeback with Brianica Greenaway totting up a
few goals. Nicola Heckford did a good job in defending and intercepting some
of the Flyers’ sloppy throws with super-sub Natalie supporting well. The
School narrowed the gap to four goals at one stage. The last quarter saw
Bridge View finding extra energy and the combination of Debbie Winrow and
super-sub Lucy Kidby in defence supported by Jenny Brierly helped to keep the
School team at bay, allowing them only a further four goals. At the other

For week ending September 26 BHS U18s 27 Taz A 16: A tough game for Taz A having two
key players off. A fast and competitive game from the start. BHS U18s took

Booth (captain). Spalding Sparks Green 39, D Birds 9: A good start was
made by both teams with Spalding Sparks Green just having the edge, leading

For week ending September 19 BHS U16s v College: Details
awaited Spalding Sparks Red 13, Taz B 22:
An excellent start again from RAZ B with brilliant interceptions from Heidi
Wharff in centre court. Sparks fought well but despite their best efforts
could not match TAZ. Fantastic teamwork from the TAZ circle defence giving
them the extra edge. Players Player for Spalding Sparks Red Keira Wybrow (GD)
for Taz B Emily Brader Gems 2 10, Boston A 28: The
first quarter was closely contended with tight markup from both teams. Passing and footwork was accurate and
umpiring was of a high standard. In the
second quarter Boston A managed to benefit from a quick successin of
goals. Both teams continued to play
well after half time, however Boston A managed to gain some good
interceptions which enabled them to get the ball down court and take the lead
further. A very fast and well played
game. The more experienced team taking the win here but the newly promoted
Gems 2 not giving in. Bostons shooters Jane Walsh and Helen Stewart
worked to score around the very close and hard defence

Bridge View Flyers A 27: The game started well with the teams really working
hard. Both meant business. The A team led by four goals after the first
quarter. The B team tried hard and the new line-up proved they might see some
good form this season. Centres Nessa Droy and Bev Emmanuel both worked hard.
New B team shooters Lucy and Sophie Favel really showed the team what
they can do. A-team shooters Jane Hutson and Karen Johnson showed experience
in converting some distance shots to goals. Half-time saw the B team bring on
Subs to cover injuries to Sam and Zoe. The A team tired but still worked well
and their years of playing as a team carried them through. Jess Wilkinson
trying her hand at attack didn’t affect the A team a lot and they finished
the third quarter eight goals up. The last quarter saw the A
team adding another two goals to the gap and won. The B team, however,
can be proud as their hard work and persistence is beginning to show and we
will see if they can keep it up. Players’ player for Bridge View Flyers A,
Debbie Winrow (WD); and for Bridge View Flyers B, Lucy Favel (GA) Gems 1 13, Spalding Sparks Green
