2006 September 30 news: It has been a busy week for golfers and
committee members alike at Kirton Holme Golf Club. Tuesday September 26 saw
the ladies section play Sutton Bridge at home for one of the few remaining
friendly matches this season. The

the Four Crossroads public house organised by Jean Spratt. Donations were gratefully received and
auctioned by former clu captain Mick Nundy. And a grand total of £590 was
raised and split between both the men’s captain’s charity, the Butterfly
Trust, and the ladies captain’s charity, LIVES. At the club on Friday Jean Belton organised the Macmillan

tombola etc brought in a resounding £500.
A big thank you went to all who contributed. That same evening lady captain organised a fun social evening

Stamford to play against their opponents at Burghley Park. The wind was rather blustery but the

and Barbara Pell with Jackie Ward. They came away with a 3-1 loss. Next up August 12 should have seen the Paul McCartney
Trophy contested. The format was three men and a lady playing as a team but
going out individually. The men played 27 holes, the first nine being
followed by a bacon roll and drink and then another 18 holes with the ladies
following behind. Unfortunately this
had to be called off due to the heavy and persistent rain that fell that
morning. On August 15, the ladies played a friendly against
Eagles at home and the score was evenly matched in a 2-2 draw. The remaining
ladies had a bit of fun just counting the amount of putts they had over nine
holes. Here there was a tie between
Chris Gill and Pam Cook who both scored 13 and they each received a ball. Boston Golf Club held a Charity am-am on Wednesday
August 16 and a number of Kirton Holme ladies entered. Lorna Locking and Heather Scarboro were
part of the team with the highest score for the first nine. On Thursday, August 17, eight ladies including lady
captain travelled for an away day at Belton Woods near Grantham. The first nine holes were played in
beautiful sunshine before the heavens opened and thunder and lightening
stopped play. The players were drawn into two teams of four and the format
was stableford with two scores to count on the par four and par five holes
and all four to count on par threes. Everyone enjoyed the competition organised by lady
captain and hope to finish the remaining nine holes when they play again next
Friday. Some other ladies from the club played in the Katie Clarke Memorial
Trophy event at Boston West. Lorna
Locking and Carol Nundy were in the winning ladies team. Unfortunately due to
the thunder and lightning, which resulted in a waterlogged course, the home
league match against Sutton Bridge on Friday August 18 was abandoned. July
2006 July 31 news: Latest men's section results at Kirton Holme Golf Club are as follows:
The club championship was won by Simon Richardson with scores of 65 and 75 (total 151), second was Jerry Philo on 154 and third was Robert Ellis also 154 (on countback).
July 24 news: Kirton Holme Golf Club was a hive of activity when 32
players took part in the annual ladies v seniors match. A slight breeze amid
bakingly hot weather made conditions reasonably pleasant. Summer 2005 had
seen the men as decisive victors. But this year the ladies took the game more
seriously and tried several tactics in a bid to gain an advantage. However,
the seniors were just too strong and the result ended 4½-3½ in their favour.
A re-match invitation has already been accepted for seniors’ morning in October. In other areas, the Kirton Holme ladies played a league match against Spalding at home and once again they achieved a 3-1 win. The pairings were Jackie Ward with Avril Norton, Barbara Pell with Val Richardson, Margaret Johns with Merna Atkins and Anthea Hall with Tricia Sharpe. Kirton Holme went to Gedney Hill Ladies’ Open Day. There were prizes for the local club as well as visitors. Unfortunately the Kirton Holme ladies did
better winning raffle prizes, apart from Linda Childs who came in third and
also got a two. A number of ladies also played at Sleaford Golf Club. Elsewhere, glorious sunshine and no wind made it perfect
weather conditions for ladies’ championship day at Kirton Holme when the
majority of the players chose to play 27 holes. First the 18-hole medal was
played and then everyone had a break before contemplating, in reverse order,
the final nine holes to establish the winner. This year the ladies’ champion was Chris Gill, second was Val
Richardson and third Merna Atkins, who was also the nett champion with

and nearest the pin was Len Hartley. A raffle with many excellent prizes was
held and the proceeds are going to be donated to the Royal Marsden Hospital. The Good Friday Easter Egg stableford had an excellent
turnout of both men and ladies. First
man was Ian Sloan and first lady was Mavis Ablard. Places third to fifth went
to Marlene Morris, Shirley Raynor and Maurice Norton. Nearest the pin for the men was John Goode
and Margaret Johns was the nearest lady.
Ian Sloan and Avril Norton won the longest drive prizes. Members of the ladies section travelled to Coningsby to
play the first friendly match of the season. The pairings were well matched
but the Holme ladies came away with an overall score of 3-1 win. After that, at the club’s ladies’ morning, a total of 15
members turned out to play stableford format. It was a fun morning with Easter eggs as prizes for the first
threee ladies and also nearest the pin and longest drive. The ladies in the prizes were: third,
Linda Childs; second, Beryl McDermott; and winner, Ingrid King. Nearest the pin was Carol Wilson and lady
captain Barbara Pell won the longest drive prize. March
2006 March 27 news: The course at Kirton Holme Golf Club has been quiet
lately — not only due to cold weather conditions but also because 20 members
travelled to Greetham Valley for two days of mixed competition. Only six ladies
played in the ladies’ March Medal, but two days later several more
competitors were in the swing. The
overall winner of the two days’ play was Ingrid King with a nett score of 67. First in category five was Beryl McDermott
nett 71 and category three winner was Val Richardson with a nett 74. First of the ladies’ summer competitions during April is
the 14th Ladies Birthday Bowl to be held this Saturday. Other fixtures
include a friendly against Coningsby (away), medal on April 16 and 18. April
25 sees, for the second year, Ladies Charity Open Day. And to conclude the
action, April 30 brings the Coronation Foursomes. Other competitions include Easter Egg stableford, the Keith
Storr Memorial and Easter Monday’s annual fun golf and tennis day. March 20 news: The mixed winter league final at Kirton Holme Golf Club
has been held. Conditions stayed fine with the sun shining, but it was still
bitterly cold. A total of 15 teams of four went in reverse order
playing stableford format. The winning team, aptly named the Frozen White
Stuff comprised Paul and Elaine McCartney with Val and Keith Richardson. Runners-up were the Scargills, consisting of Graham and
Heather Scarboro and Jerry and Chris Gill. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be
third time lucky. They had won this event the previous two years. There were only four points separating the
first four teams. Thanks went to the mixed committee for all their hard
work at the club. |
