Report for matches played on Sunday November 27 Workforce Unlimited Premier Division On a wet Rosebery Avenue pitch, which got heavier as the
match progressed, Magnet Tavern and Boston College both played quite good football. College had a one man advantage over
Magnet, with the latter again being let down by players on the day. And
College took the lead through Dan Warren after a one-on-one with the
keeper. Magnet went up to 11 players
and fought back to level through Alexandre Silva only for Stephen Montague to
head home to restore College’s lead.
Dean Seiner then fired in a third.
In the second half Magnet had a lot of possession but failed to really
trouble College’s back four and Keeper James Doughty. Seiner added the fourth before Daniel
white sealed a 5-1 win for the College.
It was a good, hardworking performance from a young College side. Lord Nelson bagged all three points from an 8-2 victory
against a spirited Nortoft side. Jimmy
Britton bagged four goals in the Workforce Unlimited Premier Division
encounter, the pick of which was a 30-yard drive finding the bottom
corner. John Rutherford danced around
several defenders and coolly slotted past the hapless keeper on his return to
the Nelson team, midfielder Marcus De Viva added two quick goals and Brendan
Barnes finished the scoring with a superb 20-yard lob going in off the
underside of the bar. Nortoft never
gave up, despite dropping to nine men through injuries, and deservedly scored
two goals with the help of poor defensive errors. Elton Dobson and Chris
Massingham getting their names on the scoresheet. Napoleon Sunday started brightly and soon took control
over an energetic Park Avenue Athletic.
Good play and hard work paid off in the 15th minute when Stephen
Murphy slotted the ball past Park’s keeper while good defensive work — particularly
by Baxter and Lamming — kept Park at
bay, despite several good chances coming their way. John Chand’s fine through ball then found Laszlo who ran Park’s
defence ragged, before firing a great shot in the top left corner to give the
visitors a 2-0 half-time lead. In the second half it was a more even affair
but it was the Nap who managed to find the net, Laszlo completing a brace.
3-0 the final score. Golden Lion were unable to raise a team to play Duke of
York with only five of their players turning up on the morning. Workforce Unlimited Division One Here Carpenters Arms put their recent poor form behind
them when taking the lead 10 minutes in against Axe and Cleaver. Sam Duff’s
blocked shot fell to Dex Wilson for a close range tap-in. Five minutes later Wilson turned provider
as a strong challenge led to the ball running for Duff to fire in from the
side of the box. The Axe rallied
and came close to pulling a goal
back before the break. The second
half was more even until Dean Appleby’s through ball found Dex Wilson who
played in Nicky Wiles to score from a tight angle. The Axe then scored direct from a corner. Joe Talbot re-extended the lead with a
well-taken debut goal. Eagle Harvesters took an early lead against Britannia
Rangers when Steve Siggee powered home a header from a Jamie Lawson
free-kick. The Brit equalised shortly
after but the Eagle went in at half time with a 2-1 lead when Gary Ling fired
home after a flowing attack. The Brit
again pulled level straight after the re-start when James Cook was adjudged
to have brought down DJ Wright – the latter slotting home. The Eagle went ahead for a third time
through Chris Lawson only to see the Brit draw level again with a deflected
indirect free-kick from inside the box.
With the Brit were reduced to 10 men, due to injury, the Eagle took
control. James Cook netting from
close range after a Chris Lawson cross-shot, Jamie Lawson and Gary Ling
rounding off the scoring in a good spirited game. Railway Hotel claimed only their second league win of
the season, making the most of a rocky performance by the Lincoln Lane
defence in the first half. Liam
Maskell put the home side in the lead with an excellent direct corner. Danny Brewster and Carl Duncan increased
the lead to give them a 3-0 comfort zone going into the break. Lincoln Lane rallied after the break and
did get back into the game. However, they were only able to break through the
resilient Railway defence once through a stunning free-kick by Ryan
Duffy. Just seven minutes from the
end James Cross completed the scoring
for the Railway. |

Report for matches played on Sunday November 20 Workforce Unlimited Division One A lack lustre first half performance by Harvesters saw
them being deservedly 3-1 down at half time against New Castle. Michael Gardner put the home side in front
following some sloppy defending but 15 minutes later and Harvesters were
level with Gary Taylor tapping home after Chris Lawson saw his long angled
drive hit the bar. The Castle then stormed into a two-goal lead with good
strikes from Jordan Dixon and Stacey Ruck.
The Eagle rang the changes at half-time with the veteran Paul
Collingwood coming on and bringing a wealth of experience. Alex Tilley pulled another goal back with
just five minutes remaining but the Castle held on to take all three
points. This was a good, sporting
game well controlled by referee Helen Fulcher-Ward. Dixie Deane Memorial Cup Nortoft were unable to field a side against Napoleon
Sunday, resulting in their game being called off on Friday. And two more Dixie Deane Cup matches were
also called off due to icy weather. One game that did go ahead, though, saw
Boston College overcome a hard-working Golden Lion side to earn a 3-1 win –
their third win in the competition.
In the first half the Lions defence were excellent with College
struggling to breach it, and it was the Lions who initially took the lead through Ian Morris
just after the break. Daniel White
soon levelled. Dan Warren put the
College in front from the penalty spot before a Dan Cole strike sealed the
points. Workforce Unlimited Shield The day’s only scheduled match in this contest (Lincoln Lane v Carpenters Arms) was postponed due to a frozen pitch. |

Report for matches played on Sunday November 13 Workforce Unlimited Premier Division Nortoft piled some good pressure on the Duke of York in
the first 20 minutes of their encounter. And keeper Darren North had to pull
off a great save from one particular long-range effort. Nortoft finally got
on the goal trail, but this only spurred the Duke to reply, scoring six times
in the game. Their first was a header
by Ben Brittain which came off Jason Osbourne’s head into the net. Rob Marsden was the next with a 25-yard
rasper into the bottom corner to make it
2-1 at half time. Andy Brown
in the second half fired one into the top corner. Marsden then added his
second, slotting home into the corner.
Jamie Kuhn then did the rest of the damage with two great solo runs,
blasting into the back of the net both times. Jamie Skinner was the Duke’s man of the match with a great
display at right-back. With the Lord Nelson only starting with 10 men and being
reduced to eight for the second period, opponents Golden Lion ended the
encounter with a 6-2 victory. Jimmy Britton
put the visitors ahead after latching onto a long ball but almost immediately
Tim Tyler replied with a 35-yarder that curled into the side of the net. A Craig Spooner brace gave the home side a
half-time 3-1 lead. The Lion’s Adam
Lester struck with a long-range effort before Britton completed his
brace. Lee Hunt made it 5-2 from the
penalty spot and Tyler grabbed their sixth just before the final whistle. With both Napoleon Sunday and Magnet Tavern missing key
players it was difficult to predict the result of this game. And it was
Magnet who emerged victors following a dubious refereeing decision! The first half was gripping ebb-and-flow
football. The Magnet’s Richard Stukins gave his side the lead in the 25th
minute with a good strike. But five minutes before the break and Leroy Medina equalised for the Nap. Paul
Vaughan should have given the home team the lead after the break – only to be
thwarted by an excellent save from Andy Stukins. With only five minutes remaining on the clock a bad decision
gifted Tavern with a corner, resulting in Stukins hitting his and the
Magnet’s second goal, giving the visitors the three points and top spot in
the table. Workforce Unlimited Division One Britannia Rangers got back to winning ways with a
convincing 5-1 victory over strugglers Carpenters Arms. Karl Melton returned to haunt his old
team, scoring the Brit’s opener with a crisp 18-yard drive finding the bottom
corner. Rangers went two up when debutant Niall O’Grady headed
home after excellent work by Kev Manning.
Rangers hung over looking defence then contrived to put a Carps
striker clean through and he made no mistake in pulling a goal back. In the second half Tom Ratley prodded home early
on. And later Kev Manning fired home
two fine individual goals to complete the scoring. In an even first half Lincoln Lane took the lead through
Chris North midway through the first period when a deflected shot eluded Mike
Pearson in the Harvesters goal.
Harvesters nearly pulled a goal back when Gary Ling beat two defenders
only to see his shot cannon off a post.
The trend continued in the second half until an inspired double
substitution from caretaker manager Chris West — Collingwood and Taylor on
for Tilley and Browne. Colloingwood lobbed the keeper and tapped home. The Lane responded almost straight away
with North again their scorer. Siggee
equalised with five minutes to go, volleying in after excellent work from
Gary Taylor and Jamie Lawson. The New Castle let a 4-1 lead disappear in the last 15 minutes
against the Railway Hotel. Michael
Gardner converted a penalty to give Castle the lead. Within ten minutes,
though, Carl Duncan had pegged them back.
After a strong spell, the visitors took control of the first half,
going in at the interval 4-1 ahead, Gardner, Dion Roberts and Ben Lawson
getting their names on the scoresheet.
With the game relatively quiet after the re-start Railway shocked the
Castle. Liam Maskell scored twice, one either side of Danny Brewster’s goal
to give them a deserved share of the spoils.
Referee Mark Bruntlett had a good game in the middle. |

Report for matches played on Sunday November 6 Lincs Sunday Cup Park Avenue Athletic travelled to Grantham side Harrowby
Athletic. And they came back defeated by a 5-1 scoreline that flattered the
hosts. Harrowby took the lead after just two minutes but James Hardy brought
Park level with a 20-yarder looping shot. Park dominated the game towards the
end of the first half and the beginning of the second but while forwards
Matthew Bates and Paul Barker came close, the ball would not go into the back
of the net. The home side took the lead again with a speculative shot that
went in off the crossbar. And it all went downhill from there for the Boston
side. The final three goals were well worked by Harrowby. A weak Nelson side
succumbed 10-1 to AFC Timberland. The Lincoln League side dominated from the
off and goals came at regular intervals. The one highlight for Lord Nelson
was Jimmy Britton’s fine strike after good work from stalwart Neil White. Napoleon Sunday were the only Boston team to proceed
through to the third round of the competition, taking control from the off
with a goal by Lovas Laszlo after only a few minutes. Gav Marshall doubled
the tally and Lee Orrey netted their third before Rangers pulled one back.
After the break Laszlo completed a brace and sub Jason Harrison netted the
fifth before Rangers got their second goal, aided by a deflection for a 5-2
final score. Nortoft took the lead against Metheringham Sunday with Marcus
Chester hitting a good strong ball. But Metheringham pulled the goal back
before the break and scored the winning goal early in the second half. Boston College bowed out of the County Cup, losing by
the odd goal in five to a strong Sleaford Legionnaires side. College started well with Seiner going close before the
hosts took the lead. College were soon on level terms with a fine individual
goal from Daniel White. The second half started with College forcing the
pace, only to be denied by three fine saves by the Legionnaires’ keeper. The
hosts then scored twice but College would not accept defeat. With 10 minutes
left, Richard Borrill struck an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box but
Legionnaires held on. It was an excellent performance from a young College
side who can be proud of their efforts. Workforce Unlimited Division One With the wind in their faces, Eagle Harvesters stormed
into a 2-0 lead against Axe and Cleaver. Gary Ling netted twice from close
range after excellent work from new strike partnership Duncan Browne and
Steve Siggee. But after a goalmouth scramble, the Axe came back into the
game. Defensive errors by the Eagle marked a turn around with the Axe going
into the break 3-2 up. Steve Siggee returned the visitors to level terms when
slotting home from close range from a corner. Harvesters dominated the
remainder of the second half as the Axe offside trap failed on numerous
occasions. Jamie Lawson, Alex Tilley and Chris Lawson all scored after
breaking through to seal a 6-3 win. The Star Inn (Sibsey) consolidated their lead at the top
of Division One with a 3-1 win over third placed Britannia Rangers. Rob
Masters opened the scoring following a good move, finishing from inside the
box. DJ Wright equalised for the Brit but again some good flowing team moves
saw Rob Masters provide a super ball for Ade Almond to restore their lead.
Star had much more of the play in the second period and were rewarded with a
third goal, the ball dropping on Paul Burrell’s head for an accepted goalscoring
chance. Mark Bruntlett had an excellent game in the middle. |
