Report for matches played on Sunday August 28

Workforce Unlimited Premier Division

WITH the majority of Boston Sunday League teams requesting no game for the bank holiday weekend there was only one game in the Workforce Unlimited Premier Division. But it was an entertaining affair all the same with Duke of York and Golden Lion matching each other. Lion’s Benn Houghton scored the first Sunday League goal of the season after 20 minutes following a lively start, with both teams in attacking mode. Both sets of forwards created chances only to see the ball evading the back of the net. Andy Brown, continuing his fine form from last season, came closest for the Duke only to see three good strikes being saved by the Lion’s keeper. Shaun Dawson chipped in with two well-struck free-kicks but the Duke could not find the equaliser in the first period. The second half continued where the first left off and after just five minutes Jamie Kuhn made a dazzling run. He attempted to round the goalie but was brought down in the box — Shaun Dawson stepped up to finish from the penalty spot. Neither team could find the winning goal — the Duke’s Andy Brown coming the closest with a 30-yard rasper following some good runs down the left flank.

Workforce Unlimited Division One

There was also just one match on the schedule in Workforce Unlimited Division One where Patter United were unlucky to concede the first goal in their match against Eagle Harvesters which came on 30 minutes. Steve Siggee hit a superb 25-yarder which Owens, in goal, appeared to have covered. But at the last moment a defensive error saw the ball sneak into the back of the net It was 1-0 at half-time. With Harvesters beginning to take charge, a second goal appeared inevitable. And it came once again from Siggee following a corner kick.  Within five minutes Harvesters had scored twice more through Gary Taylor and Alex Tilley as Patter crumbled under the pressure.  All credit to Patter who kept pressing forward but were let down by poor finishing.
