Report for matches played on Saturday August 27 Cropley’s Suzuki Premier Division The Cropley’s Suzuki Premier Division programme was
already suffering from the unfortunate withdrawal of CFC Napoleon who had to
“pull the plug” because of a lack of players. And in the only top division
match on the first day of the season, Skegness Town opted to continue with
their fixture at North Sea United despite struggling to raise a full side.
Their efforts were rewarded with a thumping 8-1 victory thanks to a hat-trick
from Ben Pearce. It could have been a closer outcome had the Camp not lost
one of their better players following a red card. This clearly knocked the
confidence of the prison side and,
already trailing to Ben Pearce’s opener, they conceded two more goals
before the break. Pearce went onto complete his hat-trick while Lloyd Cooper
and Craig Leverett grabbed double strikes. The other Town goal came from Nick
Chapman. Cropley’s Suzuki Division One In Cropley’s Suzuki Division One, there were two
eight-goal maulings. New boys Sleaford Town, already one of the favourites
for promotion, recorded an 8-1 away win at Spalding Town. Sleaford received
an early blow, however, when they fell behind before recovering to lead 2-1
at the halfway stage. Captain Ian Stewart hit two goals as did Matthew Lunn
as Sleaford stepped up the pace in the second half. The other match-winning
goals came from Tom Wilmot, Danny McCormack, Steve Morley and Kelvin
Couchman. Gedney Drove End fared slightly better in their opening
game of the season when they also hit eight goals but will temporarily top
the table only because of the fact that they did not concede running out 8-0
winners at home to Fosdyke. The visitors’ cause wasn’t helped when they had
goalkeeper, James McCartney dismissed for a professional foul during the
first half. Drove End were 2-0 up the break and added another midway through
the second half. Fosdyke capitulated in the closing stages as their
enthusiasm disappeared and Gedney took full advantage scoring five more times
late on. Ian Bent took centre stage, grabbing four of his side’s goals while
Dave Wilson and Cymon Lambe both scored twice. In the other game Old Doningtonians produced a storming
second half performance to take maximum points in their away fixture at Old
Leake. The home side took one of their two main chances to lead at the
halfway stage but Old Dons recovered with two goals from Steve Burdall to
snatch victory. Last season’s leading marksman, Chris Wing, grabbed the other
goal. Final score was 3-1. Cropley’s Suzuki Division Two In Cropley’s Suzuki Division Two, newly promoted,
Spalding Harriers found life tough as they went down at the hands of
Coningsby Reserves. Jason Haytree grabbed the Spalding side’s only
consolation in a 4-1 defeat. Westside Rangers, on the other hand, enjoyed a great
start to their campaign, when they thumped Mareham United 5-0 at Rosebery
Avenue thanks to goals from Andrew baker, James Oliver, Jody Betts, Richard
Elsom and David Burt. Cropley’s Suzuki Division Three In Cropley’s Suzuki Division Three, Shodfriars got their
season off to a magnificent-seven start when they defeated Sibsey 7-2 at
Rosebery Avenue. From the outset Shodfriars put Sibsey under intense pressure
and were rewarded for their efforts with the opening goal following a fine
run down the left by Ben Newton which saw the tricky playmaker go on to
score. Jimmy Brittain added a second for the home side before Sibsey
capitalised on a defensive mix-up to reduce the arrears at the interval.
After the break it was pretty much one-way traffic as Shodfriars went onto
score five more times. John Rutherford grabbed two goals, one following fine
build-up play from Brendan Barnes. Craig Spooner, sub Damien Howlett and
Barnes completed the scoring. Sibsey did manage a late consolation when
another defensive slip gifted the visitors their second goal. Simon Webster, last season’s leading marksman in
Division Three, wasted no time in punishing the opposition once again. The
diminutive striker scored all five goals in West Pinchbeck’s 5-2 home win
over Friskney. Kirton Town Reserves had a great 4-2 away win at
Holbeach United Social Club when goals from Richard Borrill (2), Michael
Collins and Mark Richardson got their season off to a flying start. Max Holt
and Josh Martin replied for the home side. In the remaining fixture Woodhall Spa United won 3-1
away at Old Doningtonians Reserves. |
