Review for April 21

Skegness United secured runners up spot with a resounding victory over neighbours Louth Town Reserves in the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League at Wainfleet Road Playing Fields on Saturday. Kurt Crossley and Jack Wightwick both grabbed a brace as United romped home 7-2. Top scorers of the day were Boston United Reserves, who smacked nine goals past Ruston Sports. Things were a bit tighter as Eslaforde Park, Sleaford, where Town’s second string went down by the odd goal in five to their counterparts from Grimsby Borough. Heckington United’s Ewan Clarke scored twice as his team beat Horncastle Town at Howell Road, while Skegness Town ended a dismal run of results with a tidy win over Lincoln Moorlands Railway Reserves. Swineshead Institute held high-flyers Nettleham to a 1-1 draw at the Causeway. The match between CGB Humbertherm and Hykeham Town was postponed, due to a waterlogged pitch.

Review for March 17

As the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League enters the final weeks only three teams have a mathematical chance of winning the title. And while reigning champions Boston United Reserves cannot yet be ruled out as contenders, it could be argued that it is now a two-horse race. Both leaders Cleethorpes Town and Skegness United kept their hopes alive with victories on Saturday. Cleethorpes hit five goals past rock bottom Sleaford Town Reserves, while United picked up a tidy three points at home to Swineshead. The Pilgrims from Boston missed a chance to go third in the table when they were held to a draw at Market Rasen Town, while fifth placed Nettleham also missed out when they slipped to another defeat at home to Hykeham Town. Louth Town Reserves consolidated their sixth place when they brushed aside the challenge from Lincoln United Reserves, while Heckington strengthened their claim to eighth spot with victory at Skegness Town. Horncastle bounced back from their midweek defeat at Boston United Reserves with a narrow home win over Lincoln Moorlands Railway Reserves. A Daniel Trott brace of goals helped CGB Humbertherm to three points against Ruston Sports.

Round-up for January 28

Home sides dominated in the latest round of Sills and Betteridge League results. Boston United Reserves climbed into fourth place with a tidy win at the Jakemans Stadium over Lincoln United’s second string. A solitary Daniel Trott goal was enough to secure the points for CGB Humbertherm in their match at home to Heckington United, while Grimsby Borough Reserves beat Sleaford Town Reserves on their 3G rubber pitch at the Bradley Community Stadium. Hykeham Town won the derby clash with Nettleham, while second placed Skegness United kept the pressure on leaders Cleethorpes with a comfortable win over Market Rasen Town. Swineshead Institute won by the odd goal in three when they entertained Ruston Sports at the Causeway. The Wolds derby between Louth Town Reserves and Horncastle Town finished all square, while free-scoring Cleethorpes registered the only away win of the day at Skegness Town.

Leaders Cleethorpes Town have opened a 10-point gap at the top of the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League. They secured three more points by completing a league double over Lincoln Moorlands Railway Reserves. Added to the three points they were awarded by the League’s management committee, after Swineshead’s no show, the win has put them in a commanding position at the table’s summit. Neighbours Grimsby Borough Reserves lost ground when Ruston’s clinched only their second league win of the season on the artificial surface at Bradley Community Stadium. Hykeham Town climbed to sixth in the table with a tidy win over Horncastle Town, while in-form Swineshead Institute bagged three points in their match against basement club Sleaford Town Reserves.

Review for October 22

Grimsby Borough Reserves have climbed back onto the top of the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League with a convincing win at Horncastle. Borough dislodged neighbours Cleethorpes Town after the seasiders’ home game against Swineshead was called off when their opponents failed to raise a team. Cleethorpes, who dropped their first points of the season when they were held at Nettleham in midweek, are expected to claim the points. Skegness United continued their rich vein of form with a convincing win over CGB Humbertherm, while Nettleham followed up their excellent midweek result with five goals against local rivals Lincoln Moorlands Railway Reserves. Heckington United were comfortable winners over Market Rasen Town, while Hykeham Town won a seven-goal thriller over champions Boston United Reserves. Lincoln United Reserves continued their climb up the league table by coming back from a two-goal deficit at home to Skegness Town, while Louth Town Reserves picked up a tidy three points at Sleaford Town Reserves.

Review for October 15

Six-shooting Skegness United climbed into fourth place in the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League with a convincing victory in Lincoln. Paul Watts grabbed a hat-trick as United hit Lincoln Moorlands Railway Reserves for six to repeat their score at Horncastle in midweek. Heckington United had a Ewan Clarke brace to thank for their three points bagged at Market Rasen Town, while Hykeham Town’s five goals at home to Sleaford Town Reserves included a brace from Michael Ellis. Lincoln United Reserves lifted themselves into 11th place with victory over local rivals Ruston Sports, who are still looking for their first win.

In the Challenge Cup, league leaders Cleethorpes Town eased their way into the semi-finals with a convincing win over Skegness Town, while Swineshead Institute bounced back from midweek defeat in Boston by knocking out bottom club CGB Humbertherm. Horncastle Town, reprieved after Lincoln Moorlands Railway Reserves played an ineligible player in the last round, took full advantage when they beat Boston United by the odd goal in three. Grimsby Borough Reserves earned their semi-final place with a creditable win at Mulsanne Park, Nettleham.

Review for October 7/8

Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League leaders Cleethorpes Town maintained their 100 per cent record with midweek victory over local rivals Grimsby Borough Reserves. But they were knocked out of the County Cup on penalties by Moulton Harrox. James Deeming’s hat-trick for Grimsby Borough Reserves at Lincoln United Reserves on Friday night ensured that they keep in touch with the leaders, while six points for reigning champions Boston United Reserves maintained their interest in retaining the title.

Cleethorpes were one of only two Lincs League casualties in Saturday’s second round, the other one being Ruston Sports who couldn’t stop fellow Lincs Leaguers Nettleham completing a league and cup double over them. CGB Humbertherm, who are still waiting for their first league win, hit seven past Middle Rasen, while Heckington United went one better when they entertained Caistor Tennyson at Howell Road. Hykeham Town are in the hat for the third round after their 4-2 win over College Wanderers, while Market Rasen Town eased past Clayton Sports. Skegness Town dumped Grimsby side A+G Auto Repairs out of the tournament, while neighbours United saw off the challenge of BBM. Recent winners of the trophy Swineshead Institute recorded a tidy win at home to Epworth Town.

Horncastle Town fired in six at home to Sleaford Town Reserves, while Skegness United came back from behind to complete a league and cup double over Heckington United. Four of the chasing pack lost ground on the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League leaders when they dropped points at the weekend. On Friday night Nettleham and Louth Town Reserves fought out a 1-1 draw at Mulsanne Park and the following day Hykeham Town and Heckington United shared the spoils at the Memorial Hall Playing Fields. With the leading group in cup action, this will be seen as a missed opportunity to close the gap at the top.

In the Challenge Cup the top three secured quarter-final places. Boston United Reserves eased their way past Market Rasen Town; Grimsby Borough Reserves booked their place in the last eight with victory at Sleaford; and Cleethorpes Town knocked out the holders Lincoln United Reserves at Ashby Avenue. Lincoln Moorlands Railway Reserves, CGB Humbertherm and Skegness Town also went through.

Grimsby Borough Reserves climbed to the top of the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire league despite being held to a draw on their home ground. The point gained in a 1-1 draw with Hykeham Town was enough to lift them to the summit with leaders Boston United Reserves not having a game and local rivals Cleethorpes Town on cup duty. Nettleham leapfrogged opponents Horncastle Town into fourth place with a tidy win at The Wong, while Lincoln United Reserves bagged their first points of the season with a Friday night win over Sleaford Town’s second string.

In the Lincs Junior Cup all five Lincolnshire League sides went through. The toughest passage was that of Heckington, who needed penalties to ease out Crowle Town Colts. In their derby clash at FC Broadburn, Cleethorpes Town won 3-0, while Ruston Sports were 5-2 winners at Alford Town from the East Lincs Combination. Skegness Town had to come back from behind to defeat Sutton Bridge United, while neighbours Skegness United had a comfortable win over Freiston from the Boston League.

Cleethorpes Town won the big match of the day in the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League, despite playing the last 30 minutes with ten men. Phil Cawley received his marching orders on the hour after his second yellow card at Boston United Reserves. But the Pilgrims were unable to make the extra man count and went down to a first half strike from Ricky Belding. Ruston Sports and CGB Humbertherm also finished with ten men apiece as they shared the spoils at Newark Road. Lincoln United Reserves scored their first goal of the new campaign, but it was not enough to stop Skegness United returning to the seaside with the points, thanks to Paul Watts’s brace of goals. Skegness Town registered their first win of the season, a 4-1 success at home to Market Rasen Town, while Grimsby Borough Reserves consolidated their third place with a win by the odd goal in five over Horncastle Town. Swineshead Institute registered their third draw of the campaign when they shared four goals at Lincoln Moorlands Railway Reserves, while Hykeham Town edged out Louth Town Reserves at Park Avenue.
