News for April 28 As
another season came to a close, the final week was as busy as it could have
been with no less than four cup finals contested. Tuesday saw Washingborough
lift the Richardson Trophy when beating Metheringham. Then on Thursday
Gainsborough Town Canute were out to make it a league and cup double when
contesting the final of the Amateur Cup against Ivy Tavern. Saturday was even
busier down at Sincil Bank (courtesy of Lincoln City FC) with two games
played on the day. First it was a local derby in the David Cooper Cup with
the prospect of a new name going on the trophy as Clayton Sports took on RM
Imp. The day closed with the final of the Village Trophy with holders
Washingborough seeking to lift the trophy in back to back seasons’ when taking
on Nettleham who had only ever won the Village Trophy once in their history
and that was back in 1982 when they beat Billinghay Athletic. It was
not all cup action though as the final games of the season were played out
with Gainsborough Town Canutes needing only one more win to be assured of
lifting the title in their first season. Taking on Fulbeck United they
secured this in emphatic fashion, completing yet another league double (their
8th) and retaining their unbeaten home record. Also securing the runners-up
spot were Waddington United who beat Horncastle Town for their sixth double.
Also taking place, Ivy Tavern completed just their second double of the
season, when beating Middle Rasen and Metheringham, likewise, secured a
second double as they beat AFC Ruston Sports. In
midweek Washingborough played the first of their two finals when taking on
Metheringham in the Richardson Trophy. Neither side had appeared in this
final before but Washingborough went into the game as favourites having
beaten their opponents convincingly a matter of weeks earlier. Washingborough
took the lead with a screamer from Tom Butcher but Ben Machin levelled from
the penalty spot before the break. Washingborugh then took control in the
second half with a perfect header from Stuart Ward before Joe Smith rounded
off the scoring with ten minutes left. Also in
midweek the final of the David Cooper Cup brought together champions in
waiting, Gainsborough Town Canutes against outgoing champions Ivy Tavern. 90
minutes of football failed to separate the two sides as they were tied at 1-1
but in extra time it was Canutes who came out on top with three further
goals. Scoring for the winners were the League’s Top Striker, Lee Bognor with
two, along with one each from Craig Mallett and Joe Owen. Danny Bee scored
for Ivy Tavern. In the
first of the two Sincil Bank finals, the David Cooper Cup two more sides were
appearing in a final for the first occasion as Clayton Sports took on their
near neighbours RM Imp. These two sides had shared ten goals in a
recent league encounter so there was little to separate them and this was
proven on the field. At full time the score stood at 2-2, then in extra time
both sides scored one apiece but it was Imps who held their nerve in the
penalty shoot out, winning 4-3 to lift their first trophy. Scoring RM Imps
goals were last seasons’ League top scorer, Jason Tinkler (2) and Liam Uzzell
while Claytons goals came from Jay Murphy, Jamie Hatton and Ady Gray. Later
in the day it was the Village Trophy, as Nettleham, appearing in just their
sixth Village Trophy final, took on holders Washingborough, who were making
their twelfth appearance (5 wins). Both sides were in a rich vein of form but
on the day it was Nettleham who produced the goods with a convincing 4-1 win.
On target for them were James Cairns (2), Lewis King and Jack Darby with Tom
Butcher getting Washingborough’s goal. After a tricky start to the season for
Nettleham it eventually panned out into an excellent one as they lifted two
trophies and finished sixth in the table. Back
into league action league leaders Gainsborough Town Canutes, with a 100% home
record, took on a Fulbeck side that had not won in their last three games.
Keeping their tenth clean sheet, Canutes won 6-0, to lift the title at their
first attempt. Not surprisingly the League top scorer Lee Bognor, weighed in
with two goals to take his tally to 32. Also scoring were Kieran Locking,
Danny Martin, Neil Farrow and Steve Crooks. Had Gainsborough failed to win,
second placed Waddington had a mathematical chance of catching them, so their
home game with Horncastle Town had some importance. With goals from Ryan
Creane, Gavin Mackie (his 23rd) and Lee Wright they won 3-1. Luke
Shelbourne scored for Horncastle. Further down the table Ivy Tavern
entertained Middle Rasen and able to call on the services of striker Billy
Munro they strolled to their biggest win of the season, a 7-2 victory. Munro
scored a hat-trick long with further goals from Darren Chapman, Sam
Allmond, Danny Bee, and Pete Rea. On target for Middle Rasen were Danny
Norburn and Ben Brown. Finally Metheringham closed their season with the
visit of AFC Ruston Sports who they had beaten 3-2 back in November. Eleven
goals were scored in the match with Rustons going ahead inside the first
minute thanks to a Metheringham own goal. Goals came at regular intervals
with the half ending 4-2 to the home side, but ironically they had scored all
six goals. Meg doubled their tally in the second half while Rustons got one
more, a rarer than rare goal from Scott Grady. On target for the home side
were James Slater, with two quality goals, Jon Miller, Guy Goodwin, Aaron
Harrison, Mark Jordan, Ben Deakin and Jake Thorpe. Mid-week Richardson

News for April 21 Midweek saw the first piece of silverware handed out as the Horace Franklin Cup Final took place between Nettleham and Middle Rasen. After early dominance by one of the sides the match panned out into an exciting finish. Also during the week, champions elect, Gainsborough Town Canutes, moved another step towards the title with a convincing win at RM Imp. Also, Washingborough ensured themselves of a top three finish, as they completed a league double at Horncastle. The game of the weekend should have been a title decider
between Canutes and Waddington United but a waterlogged pitch saw this game
called off. Also called off for a similar reason was the match between
Metheringham and Ivy Tavern. Of the games which did take place Nettleham took
advantage of the previous match falling foul of the weather as they climbed
above both sides in the table as they secured a league double over bottom
side AFC Ruston Sports. Washingborough visited Clayton Sports where they
avenged an early season defeat while Fulbeck United and Horncastle Town
played out a draw. On a more than wet Thursday evening Nettleham took on
Middle Rasen in their first of two final of the season. Surprisingly, on
paper, Middle Rasen went into the game as slight favourites as their two
league encounters had seen them pick up four points with a win and a draw.
This said, it was Nettleham who raced into a two-goal lead. Rasen, not to be
easily beaten, dug in and brought the tie back to 2-2 but in dramatic fashion
Nettleham grabbed a late winner to be the first side to collect silverware
this season. Nettleham’s goals came from Connor McLeish, James Cairns and Sam
Hewis with Luke Robinson and Ben Brown scoring for Middle Rasen. In league action leaders Gainsborough Town Canutes
visited RM Imp looking for their seventh double of the season having beaten
their opponents 7-2 at the start of the season. As for Imps they were after
securing a first win in three games. In the end the home side failed to score
for the second successive game as the league leaders ran out 4-0 winners. On
target for them were Carl Mallett (2), Dean Szendrey and Lee Bognor, with his
28th goal of the season. Another side seeking a league double, their third of
the campaign, was Washingborough, who visited Horncastle Town, who were
playing their penultimate game of the season. With goals from Steve Carter,
Tom Butcher, Joe Butler and Pete Buckley Washingborough ran out 4-1 winners.
Jack Baxter scored for the home side. At the weekend, yet another side was looking for a
league double as Nettleham visited AFC Ruston Sports, who were playing their
last home game. A convincing 7-2 victory, Nettleham’s best win of the season,
saw them leap-frog two places up the table to seventh, above the inactive
Metheringham and Ivy Tavern. Netting his first hat-trick of the season was
Justin French with Jack Darby getting two, along with one each from Sam Hewis
and Callum Pearse. Scoring for Rustons were Michael Bilson and Chris Greene.
At Clayton Sports, nine goals were scored as the home side was seeking a
double over Washingborough, having beaten the villagers 2-0, back in October.
This was not to be, with Washingborough securing their third win in a row,
with a 6-3 win. Just two players scored their goals with Pete Buckley netting
four and Tom Butcher two. Scoring for Claytons were Ash Woodhall (2) and
Callum Murphy. The final game saw Fulbeck United visit Horncastle Town in
search of their third double of the season but they had to settle for a 3-3
draw, their fourth draw of the season. For Horncastle their season closed
without a win in their last six games. Scoring Fulbeck’s goals were Josh
Woodman (2) and Ollie Tasker with Jack Baxter, Harry Baxter and Scott
Maplethorpe. Results Tuesday April 17 Horncastle Town Res 1 – J Baxter Washingborough 4 – S Carter, T Butcher, J Butler, P

News for April 14 The season continues to draw ever closer to finishing but the weather continues to have a say as the first of the cup finals, the Richardson Trophy, was postponed in midweek due to heavy rain. Earlier in the week three league games did take place with the top two both in action and both won with ease. Gainsborough Town Canutes completed yet another league double as they overcame second to bottom Middle Rasen and Waddington completed a double of their own as they beat bottom side AFC Rustons. The most pleasing result for any of the sides in the league though had to be Ivy Tavern avenging their heaviest defeat in recent times as they overcame neighbours RM Imp. At the weekend leaders Gainsborough Town Canutes moved a
step closer to the title as Metheringham failed to show for their encounter.
Waddington remained the only side that can catch the leaders should they lose
their way in their closing fixtures as they beat Ivy Tavern. There were also
wins for Claytons Sports at AFC Ruston Sports and for Nettleham at Fulbeck
United. In mid week leaders Gainsborough Town Canutes made it 12
straight league wins in a row as they beat Middle Rasen 6-1. Top scorer Lee
Bognor hit four (his 5th hat-trick of the season and 27th goal of the
campaign). Their other two goals were first goals of the season for Phil
Vasalo and Steve Crooks. It was also a first goal of the season for Rash
Begag who scored Rasen’s consolation goal. Waddington United were not to be
outdone as they also hit six goals as they beat AFC Ruston Sports 6-0. Gav
Mackie bagged his second hat-trick in successive matches and 21st goal of the
season, along with two from Shaun Booth and one from Shane O’Boyle. In the
city derby with the quick return encounter between Ivy Tavern and RM Imp the
home side was looking to avenge their recent nightmare, 10-0 reverse. This
game proved a much tighter affair and it took a single goal from Pete Rea,
just his second goal of the season, to separate the two sides. A fourth game
should have taken place between Nettleham and Claytons but the home side
failed to fulfill with the match being awarded to Claytons. In the weekend games Waddington were playing their
penultimate away game on their visit to Ivy Tavern who were playing their
penultimate home game. The end result saw Ivy suffer their sixth home defeat
as Waddingtom won 2-0 with goals from Gav Mackie (his seventh goal in three
games) and Liam Sharpe. It was Waddington’s third clean sheet in a row and
fourth in five games. Fourth placed Washingborough who in reality had
‘screwed up’ in their title aspirations went on a goal fest as they beat
Middle Rasen 8-0 in their final home game. Making a rare appearance, Alex
Knibbs scored four (his first goals since September) along with two from
teenager Ben Carter (his first for the club) and one each from Stuart Ward
and Joe Butler. With games in hand Washingborough look almost assured of
taking third place ahead of RM Imp who might have to settle for fourth place.
Further down the table Fulbeck slipped up as they looked to finish in the top
five as they went down by the odd goal in five against Nettleham who won for
the first time in three games with goals from Justin French, Matt Truelove
and a first of the season from Dave Kelleher. Netting for Fulbeck were Rob
McDonald and James Barnett. The final game saw AFC Rustons looking to secure
just their second home win in their second to last home game when taking on
Clayton Sports who were playing their penultimate away game. Claytons had not
won away from home since beating Washingborough back in November but they
picked up a good 5-2 victory in this match. Jordan Whaplington netted his
second hat-trick of the season while Callum Murphy scored one to take his
tally for the season to twelve with the final goal being a first of the
season from Jason Robbie. Rustons goals saw a first for the club by Blaine
Togher and one for Michael Bilson. The AGM for next season will be at Moorlands Railway
Sports Club on Tuesday June 28. Any new club who might be interested in
joining the league has until Tuesday 1 May to apply. They should make
their application in writing to: The

News for April 7 As we move into the last month of another campaign we also entered the busiest period of the season with midweek fixtures, cup finals and the remaining league games to decide who lifts all the silverware. This week saw the last finalists decided as the semi finals of the Horace Franklin Cup (for sides in the bottom four on the 1st April) took place. Three of the four teams contesting these ties were also involved at this stage last season including the tie which brought together (runners up) Horncastle Town Reserves and Middle Rasen. Last season the game went to extra time before Horncastle went through to the final but this time, despite the tie going beyond the 90 minutes, it was Middle Rasen who made it to their first final since re-joining the leagues. The second semi final saw AFC Ruston Sports (also in last seasons’ semi finals as Ruston Sports) visit Nettleham Reserves but once again they failed to make the final as Nettleham reached their second showpiece game of the season. In the weekend league games Gainsborough Town Canutes
moved ever closer to the league title as they completed their fourth league
double with victory over Clayton Sports. In reality ‘Canutes’ only title
contenders now are Waddington United who ended any sort of hope
Washingborough had on the title as they inflicted the heaviest home defeat of
the season on them. The only other weekend fixture saw draw specialists
Metheringham, collect their fifth draw of the season on their visit to RM Imp. In midweek Metheringham had visited the city to play
Clayton Sports and left with their first away win since January. Waddington
United too made it a good few days as they made the short trip to AFC
Ruston Sports and left with back to back away wins. Still searching for a
first away win though were Middle Rasen who had to be content with a share of
the spoils on their trip to Nettleham Reserves. Perhaps the biggest surprise
of the season though had to be the result on reigning champion Ivy Tavern’s
visit to near neighbours RM Imp. Ivy were to suffer their heaviest defeat in
more than a decade. In the Horace Franklin Cup ties Horncastle Town Reserves
were looking to make it to their fourth successive final, all their previous
ones having ended in defeat. Meeting Middle Rasen for the second year in a
row the game went through normal and extra time without either side able to
breach their opponent’s defence. For yet another occasion in this season cup
ties, the game went to penalties but it was Middle Rasen who held their
nerves the better, making it through to their first final 5-3 on penalties.
The second tie was to see goals in abundance as Nettleham Reserves took on
AFC Ruston Sports. The home side went into the game unbeaten in their last
three games while Rustons had won just once in 2012. The match went to form
as Nettleham ran out 6-3 victors to secure their place in their second final
of the season. Their goals came from Jack Darby (2), Matt Truelove, Justin
French, John Cragg and Stuart Aisthorpe. For Ruston’s Jamie Corby, Jon
Ambrose and Ben Rae were on target. The final, between Nettleham Reserves and
Middle Rasen will take place at Moorland ground on Thursday 19 April (7.00
pm). In the league Gainsborough Town Canutes, with a 100%
home record, took on a Clayton Sports side that had not won away from home in
the league since October. This winless run continued as the home side
comfortably won 5-0 with goals from Danny Martin (2), Joe Owen, Lee Bognor
(his 23rd of the season) and Ash Holland. Just two points behind
Canutes, although they have now played two games more are Waddington United
who visited Washingborough, looking to avenge a December home defeat. They
started off in the best possible way when Gav Mackie volleyed home Shaun
Booth's ball over the top from 30 yards. The home keeper (Stubbs)
pulled off several great stops including two one on ones with Shaun Booth.
Michael O'Boyle made it 2-0 before half time, firing home through a crowded
box. Waddington began the second half in much the same vein and high tempo.
Mackie scored his second and Waddington’s third after an excellent team
passing move, converting from close range. He put the icing on the cake with
his second hat trick of the seasdon with 20 minutes remaining with a similar
goal to his first. Booth again the provider but his volley from 20 yards was
just as sweet. This and other results saw Washingborough slip out of the top
three as RM Imp climbed above them although they have now played three games
more. Playing their penultimate home game they took on Metheringham looking
to record their second league double of the season. Metheringham were looking
for back to back away wins but in the end the two sides had to share the
points as the visitors came from behind three times (including a last minute
equaliser) to share a 3-3 draw. Doubling his seasons tally for Imp was Lee
Tinkler who netted a pair along with one from Sam Booth. For Metheringham
Mark Jordan, Jon Miller and Matt Hardy were the scorers. In mid week Metheringham had visited Clayton Sports
looking to end a two match losing run. Clayton Sports were not in a rich vein
of form themselves, without a league win in three games and playing their
second to last home match it became four as Metheringham won 3-0 with a pair
of goal from Mark Jordan and one from Guy Goodwin. At Nettleham, the home side took on Middle Rasen, the
only side without an away win. Having won their last three home games Rasen
made the trip with some confidence but the home side was unbeaten at home in
the league since January. In the end they had to be satisfied with a share of
the spoils in a 2-2 draw with Nettleham’s goals coming from Stuart Aisthorpe
and Rasen’s from Ian Smith (his 11th of the season) and Darren Salmon. As for
Waddington United they visited an AFC Ruston Sports side that had collected
their first win in ten league games in their last outing. This said though
they had only collected one home point since November so the visitors, who
had already beaten them 10-0 in a cup tie earlier in the season, made the
trip, hopeful of the points. Making it back to back away wins after their
recent visit to Metheringham they won 5-2 with their goals shared between
Shaun Booth (2)(his 12th of the season), Danny Hicks (his 20th of the
season), Joe Mackie and Liam Sharpe. For Rustons Jon Ambrose got both goals.
The biggest winning margin in a game this season came in the final match of
the midweek programme and it was with much surprise. In a local derby between
RM Imp and Ivy Tavern the visitors had not conceded double figures in a match
‘this century’ and perhaps in their illustrious history one would have to go
a long way back to find the last occasion. RM Imp had already beaten the Ivy
4-1 in cup action this season and going on a goal rampage they went on to
beat them 10-0. Jason Tinkler hit four (his 13th goals of the season) while
Joe Ayres bagged his third hat-trick of the season (taking him to 26 for the
season). Also on target were Sam Booth, Ryan Thompson and Dan Oxby. As mentioned we are now into cup final time with the
first showpiece match being the Richardson Trophy on Thursday 12 April (7.00
pm) at Moorlands between Metheringham and Washingborough. Horace Franklin Cup semi finals Nettleham Res 6 – Jack Darby 2, Matt Truelove,

News for March 31 This weekend brought about the semi final ties in the
Amateur Cup. Three of the four semi finalist were looking to make it to their
first final of the season while another was looking to make it to a third. In
the three other cup competitions already played three of the six semi final
ties had gone to extra time with two then being decided on penalties. With
this in mind it came as no surprise to see both the ties between cup holders
Fulbeck and Ivy Tavern and Gainsborough Town Canutes and Washingborough going
to nail-biting finishes and being decided on penalties. In the three league games played results would decide who would be in the bottom four in the table going into April and therefore qualify for the Horace Franklin Cup semi finals. Results would be crucial for some sides although bottom team AFC Ruston Sports who visited Horncastle Town Res already knew they were in the semi finals; as too did an inactive second to bottom Middle Rasen. As for Nettleham (third bottom), Horncastle (fourth bottom) and Metheringham (fifth bottom) their respective results could see any one of these sides out of the bottom four come the end of the afternoon. Metheringham hosted second placed Waddington United where defeat for the home side, while victory for Horncastle at home to AFC Ruston Sports, or a big win for Nettleham at RM Imp, could have seen any one of these sides be out of the bottom four at the end of the afternoon. In the Amateur Cup, holders Fulbeck United took on Ivy
Tavern with both sides hoping to make it to their first final of the season. The
two sides had already met twice in the league with Fulbeck holding the upper
hand with a home draw and an away win. After extra time there was nothing to
separate these two sides with the scores tied at 3-3. Paul Crampton (2) and
Josh Woodman had scored for the home side with Danny Bee (his 12 goal of the
season), Rick Robinson and Terry McDougall netting for Ivy. In the end it was
Ivy who held their nerve the better, going through to the final, 4-3 on
penalties. The second tie was no less dramatic as it brought together league
leaders Gainsborugh Town Canutes who entertained third placed Washingborough.
The villagers were the only side this season to have beaten Canutes at home
and in their recent Richardson Trophy semi final they had also come out on top,
winning 8-7 on penalties after the tie had ended 3-3. With Canutes odds on
favourites to win the title they were looking for the chance for a league and
cup double while cup specialists Washingborough were after a hat-trick of cup
final appearances. Like the previous tie, this match also went to extra time
and penalties, with the game tied at 1-1. Neil Farrar scored just his second
goal for Canutes while Washingborough’s goal came from a Steve Carter spot
kick. In a more than nervous penalty shoot-out it was Canutes who made it to
their first final, going through 3-1. This therefore sees the Thursday
26 April final (at Lincoln Moorlands Railway ground) bring together champions
elect Gainsborough Town Canutes against reigning champions Ivy Tavern CSA in what
more than likely looks like being their swansong. In the three league games played it was a day for the
away sides. Second placed Waddington United visited Metheringham, still
smarting from their recent Richardson Trophy semi final defeat. Metheringham
were without a league win since beating Ivy Tavern back in January. As for
Waddington they were unbeaten in the league in their last six games
stretching back to December. Metheringham looked a shadow of the side that
won on their previous meeting and despite only having ten players Waddington
always looked the more dangerous going forward. The only goal of the game
came early in the second half went Keiron O’Boyle breached a shacky
Metheringham defence to fire home. For O’Boyle it was his first goal since
September. The nearest Meg came to a goal was a long range bullet of a shot
from Liam Hargrave that rattled the Waddington bar. Losing this game
Metheringham were then waiting to see if Horncastle had gone above them when
they hosted AFC Ruston Sports, which would have put the villagers in the
Horace Franklin cup semi finals. Horncastle were unbeaten in their last three
home games with two draws and a win while Rustons were without an away point
since beating Clayton Sports on the opening day of the season. This said,
they were however looking to record their first league double having beaten
Horncastle 3-0 at home in October. This they achieved by the odd goal in
seven with a hard worked performance. Netting for Rustons were James Corby
(2), Brad Brooks and Michael Bilson with Jack Baxter, Luke Shelbourne and
Jonathan Seymour scoring for the home side. The final match of the day saw
fourth placed RM Imp, with an unbeaten home record, take on Nettleham
Reserves. With Washingborough in cup action the city side could go third in
the table with victory and also register a second league double. RM Imp were
unbeaten in the league in four games going back to January. Nettleham on the
other hand had lost just once in their last four league games. In a
closely fought game it was Nettleham who came away with the points after a
narrow 2-1 victory. Scoring for them was Stuart Aisthorpe with his sixth goal
in three games along with one from Matt Truelove. For RM Imp Jason Tinkler
got his ninth goal of the season. Victory took Nettleham above Horncastle and
level on points with Metheringham. A bigger win for Nettleham and a worst
defeat for Metheringham could have seen Nettleham move out of the bottom four
but instead they now qualify for the Horace Franklin cup semi final where
they will host bottom side AFC Ruston Sports on 7/4/12. The second semi final
sees Horncastle Town take on Middle Rasen on the same date. The final
of this competition will take place at Moorland Railway Sports ground on

News for March 24 Goals were again in abundance with the five games played, producing 27 goals. In the main results went as one would have expected with the exception of, perhaps one. League leaders Gainsborough Town Canutes stretched their lead at the head of the table to eight points with a narrow win over reigning champions Ivy Tavern. As for second placed Waddington United, the disappointment of exiting three cup competitions in four weeks at the semi-final stage, unfortunately saw them fail to fulfil their fixture at RM Imp. This allowed third placed Washingborough to go level on points with them, but above them on goal difference, with victory over Metheringham. Fifth placed Fulbeck Utd comfortably beat bottom side AFC Ruston Sports but the surprise of the day had to be the defeat of Clayton Sports at second to bottom Middle Rasen. The final game saw third to bottom side Nettleham Reserves beat fourth to bottom side Horncastle Town Reserves thus closing the gap on them to one point with two games in hand. In the days’ top game Gainsborough Town Canutes were
looking to record their third league double of the season on their visit to
Ivy Tavern. The home side was looking for only their third home win of the
season in eight games but it was not to be as they lost by the odd goal in
three. Darren Chapman netted for the Ivy with Canutes leading scorer Lee
Bognor registering his 22nd goal of the campaign along with one from Carl
Mallett. The two goals scored by ‘Canutes’ took them to 101 for the season in
22 games at an average of nearly 4.6 per match. As for third placed
Washingborough they were playing their first league game in five matches
having been otherwise engaged in cup fixtures (including three semi finals)
in their last four games. Opponents Metheringham too had been involved in cup
ties over the last two weeks but with a bare eleven players their day went
downhill in the first half after losing their tireless front man Mark Jordan
with a dislocated shoulder. From then onwards Washingborough took control
with two first half goals and then a further three in the second half, the
best of which was a direct free kick from Joe Butler and an unstoppable half
volley from Mark Wilkinson. Butler also got another goal along with one from
Pete Buckley and one from Tom Butcher. Scoring five goals saw Washingborough
go above Waddington on goal difference although they have played two games
more. Further down the table, fourth placed Fulbeck United, continued to
maintain their scoring boots after a bit of a barren spell when they scored
just two goals in four games. Having put five passed second to bottom Middle
Rasen last week they netted six against bottom side AFC Ruston Sports. The
final score was 6-2 to the villagers with Josh Woodman scoring his first club
hat-trick along with further goals from Nathan Selby, Mark Walker (his 11th
of the season) and Rob McDonald. Rustons goals came from Bradley Brooks and
Tom Bridge. Sixth placed Clayton Sports visited Middle Rasen hoping to record
their second double of the season. They went into the game unbeaten in their
last five games but the home side had found some form of late, and were
unbeaten in their last three home games. In a tight match the points went to
Middle Rasen with a 3-2 victory, thanks to goals from Ian Smith (his 11th of
the season), Vic Kolev and Tom Pitman. Claytons goals came from Jake Mann
(his 13th of the season) and Jordan Waplington (his 9th). In the final
game Horncastle Town, without an away win since October, visited Nettleham,
looking to register their second double of the season. Their recent form had
seen them unbeaten in their last three games (all at home) while opponents
Nettleham had lost just one home game (against Canutes) in their last four
matches. This match saw the second hat-trick of the day, scored by Stuart
Aisthorpe, as the home side ran out 5-1 winners. James Cairns got their other
two goals while Luke Shelbourne scored for Horncastle. League Fulbeck Utd 6 - J Woodman 3, N Selby, R McDonald, M

News for March 17 Surprisingly it was rather a quiet weekend for most
sides in the league with just four games scheduled and of these the top of
the table clash between Gainsborough Town Canutes and Washingborough had to
be called off due to illness in the visitors camp. This said, of the
three games that were played, 20 goals were scored, with the highest
aggregate being in the local derby between RM Imp and Claytons Sports where 10
goals were scored. Of the other games played Fulbeck United moved one place
up the table after completing a league double over Middle Rasen and
Waddington United virtually saw their title hopes fade as they had to share
the points with Metheringham. This game also doubled as the semi-final tie in
the outstanding Richardson Trophy match and similarly to the other semi-final
tie it could not be decided in normal time. In the Richardson Trophy Washingborough were waiting to
see who they would meet in this seasons’ final after they had beaten
Gainsborough Town Canutes on penalties 8-7 at the beginning of March. Cup
holders, Waddington United were contesting their third semi-final in four
matches but they were stilling looking to make it to their first final of the
season. Their opponents Metheringham had reached their first semi-final of
the season after being taken to a penalty shoot out with Nettleham last week.
Waddington opened the brighter of the two sides but it was Metheringham who
took the lead after 10 minutes through Matt Hardy who found the bottom corner
of the net after the home side had half cleared their lines. Play continued
to be end to end with few clear-cut chances created. Waddington levelled
before the break when Ben Machin sliced a Gav Mackie corner into his own net.
The second half failed to produce a goal taking the tie into extra time. With
time running out a penalty shoot-out looked on the cards but with five
minutes left Ben Deakin raced onto a through ball and beating the out-coming
keeper to the ball, rolled it beyond him into the empty net. In league action there was a local derby between RM Imp
and Clayton Sports. The home side with a 100% home record, was looking
for a league double having beaten their neighbours 4-1 back in December.
Going into this game they were on a high having made it to their first final,
the David Cooper Cup final, in their last game. Similarly Clayton Sports were
in buoyant mood after they too had reached the David Cooper Cup final last
week and their recent form had seen them unbeaten in their last four games.
After 90 minutes there was nothing to separate these two sides as they shared
ten goals, the highest aggregate draw of the season. Joe Ayres led the way
for Imps with his second hat-trick of the season and his seventh goal in his
last four games. This took him to the head of the leading scorers table with
23 goals. Imps two other goals came from Ross Simpson and Danny Oxby. As for
Claytons their goals were scored by Craig Murphy 2, Jamie Hatton, Jake Mann,
Jordan Whaplington. For Murphy and Mann it was their 12th goals of the season
and for Whaplington, his 8th and Hatton his sixth. The only other game saw Fulbeck United take on Middle
Rasen. Surprisingly second to bottom side Middle Rasen were the ‘form side’
with back to back wins to their names while Fulbeck had suffered five
straight defeats. Fulbeck were however looking to register their first league
double of the season having won 7-1 in the early season encounter. This they
achieved with a comfortable 5-2 win with goals from Mark Walker 2 (his 10th
of the season), Nick Bates, Chris Bates, and Josh Woodman. For Middle
Rasen, Ian Smith (his 10th of the season) and Darren Salmon were the scorers. Richardson Trophy semi-final Metheringham 2 (Matt Hardy, Ben Deakin) Fixtures for March 24 League – 3 pm Fulbeck Utd v AFC Ruston Sports– ref – M Thomson Ivy Tavern CSA v Gainsborough Town Canutes – ref

News for March 10 It was drama all the way in the three cup games played this weekend. Cup specialists Washingborough were looking to make it to their third final in three weeks but it was not to be as they lost in their David Cooper Cup semi final tie at Claytons Sports. An equally surprising result took place in the second semi final at Waddington who, after going out of the Village Trophy in the semi-final two weeks ago, this week, suffered defeat against RM Imp. This means there will be a new name engraved on this David Cooper Cup at the end of the season as Clayton Sports and RM Imp contest the final. In a third cup tie Metheringham, who had been
re-instated in the Richardson Trophy after Clayton Sports had been expelled
for playing an ineligible player, took on Nettleham Reserves in their quarter
final tie with this game alos going to the wire. While these cup games were taking place leaders,
Gainsborough Town Canutes, moved a step nearer to securing the title as they
got back to winning ways at Fulbeck after their cup defeat at Washingborough
last week. The days’ biggest win though, went to Middle Rasen, who moved off
the bottom, as they picked up their second win in successive weeks with
victory over AFC Ruston Sports. The final game saw Horncastle Town Reserves
make it three games without defeat as they shared the spoils with Ivy Tavern
CSA. When the draw for the semi finals of the David Cooper
Cup was made everyone expected it to produce a Washingborough v Waddington
United final but football can produce lots of surprises and this was
certainly the case in these ties. In the first match Clayton Sports
took on Washingborough with both sides unbeaten in their last three
games. Claytons were looking to make it to their first final since
joining the league while Washingborough had already secured their place in
the Village Trophy and Richardson Trophy and had knocked Claytons out of the
Amateur Cup earlier in the season. There was nothing to separate the two
sides after ninety minutes with the score 2-2. Then in extra time both sides
added another goal to take the tie to a penalty shoot-out. Clayton’s goals
came from Danny Wells with two and Jake Mann (his 11th of the season). For
Washingborough, their scorers were Andy McDowall, Richard Belcher and Stuart Ward.
This was Washingborough’s second penalty shoot-out in successive semi final
ties but this time it was Claytons who held their nerve to take the tie 6-5.
The second tie saw Waddington United host RM Imp’s who, like Claytons, were
looking to make it to their first cup final since their entry into the
league. As for Waddington United, they had gone out of this competition in
the semi final last season and were looking to go one step further this time.
Waddington certainly went into the tie as hot favourites having beaten Imps
7-3 in the league back in December but the visitors provided a surprise with
a hard worked 3-1 victory. Last seasons’ League top scorer Jason Tinkler
netted twice for Imps with his 8th goal of the season and Joe Ayres bagged
his 20th of the campaign. For Waddington Danny Hicks also got his 20th goal
of the season. Also in cup action were Nettleham Reserves who took on
Metheringham in the quarter final of the Richardson Trophy. Metheringham had
lost their last three games, including a home defeat against Nettleham while
the home side had suffered a surprise defeat against Middle Rasen in their
last outing after a run of three victories. For the first time in any game
this season the result ended goalless and even extra time could not produce a
goal. In the penalty shoot-out both sides missed one each in their first five
kicks but Nettleham then failed in the sudden death to see Metheringham win
5-4 and now visit Waddington in the semi final next week. In league action Gainsborough Town Canutes visited
Fulbeck United for the second time this season. The last occasion being in
the Lincs Junior Cup earlier in the season when they won 6-0. Fulbeck
were unbeaten at home in the league since the opening day with Canutes having
lost just one league game in the league so far, that being at Wahsingborough.
Winning 4-1 Canutes, having played 21 matches, are now just 3 goals off 100
for the season in all games. Carl Mallett hit Canutes eleventh hat-trick of
the season with Lee Bognor scoring their fourth and his 21st of the season.
Scoring for Fulbeck was Adam Swales. Victory took Canutes six points clear of
Washingborough, their closest rivals. In a middle of the table clash
Horncastle Town Reserves were seeking to go three games unbeaten for the
second occasion this season as they took on Ivy Tavern who had picked up
their first win in five games last week. Ivy were looking for a league double
having won the home encounter 5-1 but they had to settle for a 1-1 on this
occasion. Jack Baxter scored for Horncastle with his 7th goal of the season
and Rick Chester netted his first for Ivy. The top score-line of the day came
in the bottom of the table clash at Middle Rasen where AFC Ruston sports were
the visitors. These two sides had shared a 2-2 draw in February but Middle
Rasen were after securing back to back wins for the first time while Rustons
were after just their second away win of the season. In emphatic style Rasen
secured all three points with their biggest win since joining the league as they
won 7-2. For the second week in a row they saw one of their players score a
hat-trick as Dale Kennedy got three, along with two from Victor kolev and one
each from Darren Salmon and Ian Smith. Scoring for Rustons were Jonny Ambrose
and Jamie Corby. Victory saw Middle Rasen move off the bottom , going above
Rustons on goal diffrerence. Before closing the League would just like to
congratulate Fulbeck United secretary Terry Allen, who not only gives so much
time to his club every week but also, over many years, has supported his
daughter Sophie, in her chosen sports of swimming for Lincoln Vulcans. During
last week Sophie secured her place in the England Swimming Squad so all those
many hours have paid off – well done, congratulations and good look for July. David Cooper Cup semi-finals Fixtures for March 17 Richardson Trophy semi-final, 1.45 pm Waddington v Metheringham League, 3pm Gainsborough Town Canutes v Washingborough Fulbeck Utd v Middle Rasen RM Imp v Clayton Sports

News for March 3 This weekend the six games played produced 40 goals with two sides recording their best away wins of the season while one suffered their worst home defeat. For the second weekend in a row Washingborough reached
one of this season’s cup finals as they overcame Gainsborough Town Canutes in
the Richardson Trophy in what can only be described as a classic cup tie
which truly went down to the wire. While these two were involved in cup action third placed
Waddington United took full advantage to climb above Washingborough into
second place as they completed their fourth league double of the season with
victory over Fulbeck United. Securing their fourth place in the table was RM
Imp who visited Metheringham and came from behind to register their best away
win of this campaign. Also bagging, not only a league double but their best
win of the season was Ivy Tavern CSA as they ended their five game losing run
at AFC Ruston Sports. Perhaps the best result of the day came at bottom side
Middle Rasen who picked up just their second win of the season and first
victory in seventeen games as they came from 3-0 down to beat Nettleham.
Finally another side to come back from adversity was Horncastle Town who lost
two players to injury inside the opening 10 minutes and then came from two
down to share the spoils against fifth placed Clayton Sports. This saw
Horncastle pick up four points in five days as they recorded their first win
of 2012 with a midweek victory over Metheringham. The days’ top clash was league leaders Gainsborough Town
Canutes visit to second placed Washingborough in the semi final of the
Richardson Trophy. For Canutes, playing in their first cup semi final since
joining the league, they were looking to avenge their only defeat of the season,
suffered back in November when they lost their 100% record with a 3-1
reverse. As for Washingborough this was their second of four semi final ties
for the season as they looked to go one step better than last season when
they went out at this stage of this competition to Nettleham Reserves. In the
first 90 minutes Gainsborough Canutes led twice but were pegged back by the
villagers. Then in extra time it was Canutes who went ahead again as Lee
Bognor completed his hat-trick (his fifth of the season and 21st goal in
total) only for Washingborough to draw level for a third time taking the tie
to a penalty shoot-out. On target for Washingborough were Lee Welbourn (2)
(his first goals since October) and Joe Smith (his 16th of the season). Going
into the shoot-out Lee Welbourn missed the first for Washingborough and then,
taking the fifth kick, Lee Bognor could have won it for the Gainsborough
outfit, but missed. The tie was eventually won by Washingborough 8-7. In the league Waddington United, after their surprise
defeat in the Village Trophy semi final last week, achieved a fourth
League double of the season. over their nemesis side, Fulbeck Utd.
Fulbeck, who had lost five of their last six games, gifted Waddington the
lead with an own goal before Shaun Booth doubled the lead with an exquisite
lob from Shane O'Boyle's through ball. Waddington went further ahead as Gav
Mackie fed Danny Hicks who, with just the keeper to beat, finished with
aplomb to end his mini goal drought after five games without a goal. Despite
this it was his 19th goal of the season. Fulbeck to their credit failed
to roll over and began to create numerous chances, hitting the woodwork and
going close on more than one occasion. They reduced the deficit on the hour
as James Barnett headed home from a free kick which was just reward for their
efforts. However, a sweetly struck free kick from the edge of the box by
Booth (his 10th of the season) re-established Waddington's three goal as they
ran out 4-1 victors. At Metheringham the home side took on RM Imp
looking to get back to winning ways after back to back defeats. They took the
lead in the first half with a well struck shot from Jake Thorpe. In the
second half Imps produced two ‘purple patch’ periods as they hit three goals
in fifteen minutes at the start of the half through Jason Tinkler, Joe Ayres
and a long range effort from defender Danny Oxby. Meg battled gamely but
their efforts were fruitless. They then pushed central defender Guy Goodwin
up front and he reduced the arrears with ten minutes to go. With five minutes
left Imps hit their second purple patch as they hit three goals in as many
minutes to give the result a false impression. Tinkler and Ayres both doubled
their tally along with one from substitute Steve Mason. For Ayres it was his
19th goal of the season and for Tinkler, his sixth. This win consolidated RM
Imps fourth place from fifth place Claytons Sports who visited Horncastle
looking for a league double after their 7-2 home win November. Inside ten
minutes Claytons were two up as the home side was forced to make two
substitutions through injury. By the break it was 3-1 to Claytons but
Horncastle produced a grandstand second half performance to bring the game
back to 3-3 and with a little more look, could have sneaked victory. Claytons
goals came from Tomas McClement with his first of the season, Jake Mann and
Craig Murphy (both with their 10th of the season). As for Horncastle Jack
Baxter bagged two (his seventh of the season) and Luke Shelbourn scored his
first since October. Having slipped below half way in the league, reigning
champions Ivy Tavern visited city neighbours AFC Ruston Sports who had picked
up just one point out of a possible 18 in their last six games. Ivy
themselves had only collected three points over the same period but they
recorded their best win of the season as they secured their first league
double with an emphatic 7-1 victory. The win saw them move up to sixth place
with goals from Daz Chapman (3), Danny Bee (2) Jamie Sayce and Jon Robinson.
It was Chapman’s first goal since the opening day of the season, while Danny
Bee took his tally to 11 and Jon Robinson his, to eight. At the lower end of
the table tenth placed Nettleham Reserves visited bottom side Middle Rasen
looking for a fourth successive league victory but it was not to be. The home
side had secured just one point from a possible 33 going into this game and
at 3-0 down all looked lost. Somehow they found inner strength and turned the
match around completely to win by the odd goal in seven. Netting their first
hat-trick of the season was Ian Smith with his eighth goal of the season
along with one from Luke Robinson (his fourth) while Stuart Aisthorpe got two
for Nettleham along with a first for the side from Sam Newton. In midweek
Horncastle Town Reserves proved that mid-week games suit them better as they
picked up their third win from four midweek games (only losing to Canutes) as
they overcame Metheringham. The visitors were looking for a league double
having beaten Horncastle 5-1 on the opening day of the season. Will Carter
(his seventh of the season) gave Horncastle the lead before Jamie Kutzner
scored on debut for Metheringham. Horncastle’s win came in the second half
from Carl Smith with his ninth of the campaign. For Horncastle it was their
first win since December and it took them out of the bottom three. News for February 25 The season is now moving into cup semi final time with the first such ties being in the Village Trophy. The draw had created the chance of their being a repeat of last seasons’ final with holders Washingborough hosting Fulbeck United and losing finalists Waddington United visiting Nettleham Reserves. On the day this did not prove the case with a surprise being caused in one of these games. In the league Gainsborough Town Canutes climbed back to the summit with a resounding victory at AFC Ruston Sports. RM Imp climbed into fourth place with victory over bottom side Middle Rasen and Clayton Sports won the Lee Road battle as they beat neighbours Tavern CSA. In the Village Trophy holders Washingborough were
playing their first of four semi-finals this season with Fulbeck United their
opponents. These sides had already met three times this season with the best
Fulbeck having achieved being a home draw back in September. Since then they
had lost in the David Cooper Cup and also in the league at Washingborough.
The home side had won seven of their last eight games while Fulbeck had won
once in their last five. This became one win in six for Fulbeck as
Washingborough secured their first cup final place with a resounding 6-0
victory. Pete Buckley bagged a brace for them with Joe Smith netting his 15th
goal of the season along with one each from Richard Belcher, Carl Smith and
Nick Taylor. The latter two scoring their first goals of the season. In the
second tie Nettleham Reserves were playing the first of two semi finals of
the season while for their opponents Waddington United it was their first of
three. Waddington were a side in form with just one defeat in their last
eight games but this said Nettleham had found improved form of late and had
won four of their last five. This said Waddington had to be favourites going
into the game having already completed a convincing league double over their
hosts with 5-0 and 4-2 wins. On the day form was turned upside down as
Nettleham sneaked home with a narrow 1-0 win with a first goal for the side
from their first team regular, Josh Bowden. This sees Nettleham reach the
final for the first occasion since 1981/2 when they beat Billinghay 2-1. In the league, with leaders Washingborough involved in
cup action, second placed Gainsborough Town Canutes had the opportunity to
reclaim top spot as they visited second to bottom side AFC Rustons Sports.
Canutes who had won their last five had beaten Rustons 9-0 in the
Richardson Trophy just over a month ago. As for Rustons they picked up their
first put in five games last time out. Keeping their eighth clean sheet of
the season and third in a row, Canutes strolled to a 6-0 victory to go top
with three games in hand. Lee Bognor bagging his third hat-trick in his last
four games and 17th goal in total for the season. Also scoring were Dean
Szendrey with his tenth of the season along with Keiron Locking and Neil
Farrow. For Rustons it was the sixth time they have failed to score this
season. The top local derby of the day took place at Lee Road, Lincoln, where
new boys Claytons Sports took on reigning league champions Ivy Tavern.
Ivy, who had lost five of their last six games, were looking to avenge
an early season reverse against Claytons, who had won for the first time in
the league in four games last week. In a close game it was Claytons who
secured their first league double of the season with a 2-1 victory. Claytons
goals came from Jamie Mann (his 9th of the season) and Jake Hatton (his 5th
of the season) while Danny Bee scored for Ivy with his 9th goal in eight
games. The final game saw RM Imp take on bottom side Middle Rasen, also
looking to avenge an early season reverse. This win for Rasen was their only
win of the season but it was not going to be a league double as RM Imp won
3-0 to pick up their fifth league win in six games. This win saw RM Imp
retain their 100% home record and took them to fourth in the table, their

News for February 18 After the two weekend un-scheduled Winter Break the Lincoln Saturday League got back underway with three Richardson Trophy quarter final ties and three league fixtures. On present form the three Richardson Trophy ties saw the
sort of results one could expect with league leaders Washingborough seeing
off Ivy Tavern with the days’ highest score, Gainsborough Town Canutes edging
out lowly Horncastle Town Reserves and Waddington United winning at RM Imp. In the League Clayton Sports climbed two places up the
table to sixth with a good win over Fulbeck United, while the only other
moves were Nettleham Reserves who won at Metheringham securing their first
away win since October. The remaining game saw the two bottom sides Middle
Rasen and AFC Ruston Sports in opposition and these two sides both picked up
their first point in 2012 as they shared the spoils. At Washingborough the home side was looking to secure a
place in their four semi final of the season as they took on Ivy Tavern.
These two sides had already met on three occasions with both sides having won
their home ‘league’ games while Washingborough had also knocked Ivy out of
the David Cooper cup. In this tie, Washingborough were to dominate
proceeding and ran out worthy 5-1 victors with five different scorers. Joe
Smith bagged his 14th goal of the season, along with one each from Joe Butler
and Steve Carter and first goals of the season from Shane Keal and Stuart
Ward. For Ivy Kev McDonald netted their consolation goal with his first of the
campaign. As for Gainborough Town Canutes they did not have such a clear-cut
win when taking on tenth placed Horncastle Town Reserves. In their league
encounter back in November Canutes had run out easy 7-0 winners but on this
occasion they were held to a 2-0 win with goals from Lee Bognor (his 14th of
the season) and Dan Martin (his ninth). It secured Canutes a second semi
final in their first season. The third tie saw cup holders Waddington United
visit RM Imp. Waddington had already secured a 7-3 home ‘league’ victory
against the city side but were made to work for a 3-1 victory on this
occasion. Waddington went ahead with a super 40 yard strike from Ryan Creane
before Sam Booth levelled for the home side. James Hulse then chipped the
home keeper to put Waddington back in front before the break. Then midway
through the second half Gav Mackie, with his sixth goal in his last four
games, and 15th in total, sealed the game for Waddington and a place in their
third semi final of the season. In the league eighth placed Clayton Sports took on fifth
placed Fulbeck United in search of a first league win in four games. As for
Fulbeck, they had won only once in their last four games and for the second
match in a row they failed to find the net, going down 1-0 to a Jordan
Whaplington goal. Victory took Claytons above Ivy Tavern and Metheringham as
the latter lost for the first time in four league games with a
lacklustre 4-1 home defeat against Nettleham Res who went into the game
with three wins from four games. Nettleham took an early lead through Billy
Griffiths and then made it 3-0 before the break with one from James Cairns
and a second from Griffiths. Griffiths went on to become the first Netlteham
player to record a hat-trick this season before Meg grabbed a late
consolation goal through their leading scorer Elliott Ward with his 7th of
the season. The win took Nettleham into ninth position, above Horncastle Town
Reserves on goal difference. The final game saw second to bottom side
AFC Ruston Sports visit bottom side Middle Rasen. Rustons had not picked up
an away point since beating Clayton Sports in the opening game of the season
while Middle Rasen’s only points of the season had come at the end of
September in their only win of the season. In the end the two sides collected
their first point of 2012 with a 2-2 draw. Ben Brown netted both goals for
Rasen while Rustons goals, were first of the season for both Chris Greene and

News for February 4 For the first weekend of the season, the entire programme was wiped out by the weather. Three Richardson Trophy quarter-final ties were
scheduled. One, the game between RM Imp and Waddington United, actually got
started but play lasted only 10 minutes before referee Rik Howden decided it
was too dangerous to continue. Two league games were also scheduled, but both were also
postponed. The league management committee is now considering the
re-scheduling of games for the coming weekend to accommodate the playing of
these outstanding Richardson Trophy ties. Richardson Trophy quarter-finals Gainsborough Town Canutes v Horncastle Town Res -

News for January 28 All of a sudden the
situation at the top of the table sees just one point separating the top
three sides. Leaders Washingborough suffered a surprise home defeat at the
hands of RM Imp while second placed Gainsborough Town Canutes saw their game
called off due to an unfit pitch. This allowed third placed Waddington
United, who completed a third league double of the season with victory over
Middle Rasen, go level on points with Canutes and one point behind
Washingborough with three games in hand. Of the other league game
Metheringham jumped above Ivy Tavern CSA with their first victory over the
Lincoln side since April 2003. The only other match was the outstanding
round one tie in the Richardson Trophy which saw Nettleham beat Fulbeck
United. League leaders Washingborough went into their game with
RM Imp on the back of a six match winning run having not lost at home since
October. As for the city side they had lost last week for the first time in
five games but they were looking to secure their first league double of the
season, having beaten Washingborough 2-1 in November. With goals from the
ever reliable Liam Uzzell (fifth of the season) and Ash McKinstry (10th of
the season) they recorded their league double with a 2-0 win as the home side
failed to score for just the second time this season. Despite defeat for
Washingoborugh they held on to top spot due to Gainsborough Town Canutes
pitch being waterlogged and their encounter with AFC Ruston Sports being
postponed. This allowed Waddington United, who hosted winless Middle Rasen,
the chance to close the gap on the leading pair and this they did with a
solid 5-2 win and third double of the season. On target for them was Gav
Mackie with two goals (his 14th of the season), Michael O’Boyle (with his
first goal since September) and Ryan Creane (his third of the season). For
Middle Rasen their goals came from Dale Kennedy and Ian Smith. Further down
the table eighth placed Metheringham visited sixth place Ivy Tavern, looking
to maintain their unbeaten away record and register a third league win in a row.
The reigning champions on the other hand were looking to end their worst run
of the season, where they had won only once in their last four games. After a
blank first half Metheringham scored two in quick time, then went 3-1 ahead,
before Ivy made for a nervous end as they made it 3-2. Meg held out for a
rare victory over one of their oldest adversaries. On target for Meg were
Mark Jordan (fifth of the season), Liam Hargrave (fourth of the season) and
Matt Hardy (second of the season) while Danny Bee (his eighth of the season)
and Rick Toone (second of season) scored for the Ivy. Victroy for the
villagers saw them leap above Ivy in the table. The final game saw Nettleham
take on Fulbeck United in the last of the round one ties in the Richardson
Trophy. After an unbeaten run of six games Fulbeck had lost two of their last
three games including a league defeat against Nettleham. As for
Nettleham they lost last week for the first time in three games and with
first goals of the season from Connor McLeish and Justin French plus goals
from Matt Truelove (fourth of the season) and Sam Hewis (second of the
season) they moved into the quarter-finals with a 4-2 win. Scoring both
Fulbeck goals was Jason Woodham (his fifth of the season). Richardson Trophy round one Nettleham 4 (Connor McLeish, Matt Truelove, Justin

News for January 21 For the first time since September there are new leaders
at the head of the table as Washingborough went above the inactive
Gainsborough Town Canutes. Also at the top of the table there were good wins
for Waddington United and Fulbeck United along with victory for Metheringham
who moved out of the bottom four. Washingborough had quietly climbed the table since an
uncertain start to their season and visiting AFC Ruston Sports they were not
only seeking a league double but also a sixth successive win and eighth
victory in their last 10 games. Showing no mercy on 10th placed Rustons, they
recorded the biggest away win in the League this season with a 10-1 victory.
Leading the way with the goals was Pete Buckley who hit four (his first for
the club). The other goals came from Dave Curtis, who netted two against his
old club, two from Joe Smith (his 13th of the season), Tom Butcher (his 12th
of the season) and Joe Butler. Ruston’s consolation goal came from, Mike
Bilson with his first of the season. The victory took Washingborough one
point clear of Gainsborough Town Canutes but they have played three games
more. As for Ruston’s, conceding ten goals, saw them slip to second to bottom
of the table on goal difference from an inactive Nettleham. Perhaps, previous
leaders Canutes, chief rivals are third placed Waddington United who are now
just three points behind them having played the same number of games. They
visited Claytons Sports who had hit a sticky patch and were looking to stop a
two match losing run. Waddington on the other hand were after recording a
fifth win in six games and second double of the season. Keeping a fifth clean
sheet of this campaign they came away with a 3-0 win with two goals from Gav
Mackie (his 12th of the season) and one from Shaun Booth (his 9th). Another
side looking for a league double plus their fourth win in a row was fifth
placed RM Imp who visited fourth placed Fulbeck United. After an unbeaten run
stretching back to November, Fulbeck were looking to end a two match losing
run and this they did with a solid 5-2 victory. On target for them were Paul
Crampton with a hat-trick (his 8th goals of the season), Josh Woodham and Ben
Pollard. RM Imps goals came from Sam Booth and Liam Uzzell (their fourth
goals of the season respectively). The final game too saw a side looking to
secure a league double as Metheringham visited bottom side Middle Rasen
having beaten them just two weeks previously. Metheringham raced into a 5-1
interval lead with a first senior hat-trick by Elliott Ward (his 7th goals of
the season) and one each from defenders Liam Hargrave and Guy Goodwin. Taking
their foot off the pedal in the second half Metheringham allowed Rasen to
give the score-line more respectability with two further goals of their own
for a 5-3 result. Their goals came from Dale Kennedy with two (his 5th of the
season) and Ian Smith (his 4th). Victory took Metheirngham out of the
bottom four as they climbed above Horncastle Town Reserves who were without a
game. Results League AFC Ruston Sports 1 (M Bilson) Washingborough 10 (P Buckley 4, D Curtis 2, J Smith 2, T

News for January 14 It was Richardson Trophy weekend with four round one
ties scheduled but only three took place due to the weather. The one to fall
foul of the conditions was the tie between Nettleham Reserves and Fulbeck
United. In the three remaining games the League’s prolific scorers
Gainsborough Town Canutes made it into the quarter final hitting their 86th
goal in just 17 games (an average of over five per match) as they saw of AFC
Ruston Sports. Also progressing into the last eight were Claytons Sports, who
won at Metheringham, and RM Imp’s who saw of Middle Rasen. While these sides were in cup action there were two
league games involving sides in the top three in the league. Second placed
Washingborough took on Ivy Tavern with the two sides having met twice already
this season, with one victory each. The second match saw third placed
Waddington United also looking for a league double as they hosted Horncastle
Town. This game, unfortunately failed to reach a conclusion following a
serious injury to Horncastle player Scott Spooner with 20 minutes remaining. For Gainsborough Town Canutes who were in cup action,
they took on AFC Ruston Sports who had not won since late November and had
scored just one goal in their last three games. In the end it turned out to
be the fifth time the city side had failed to score as they were beaten 9-0.
Dean Szendry led the way for the victors with four goals along with one from
Joe Owen (both netting their 9th goals of the season). Canute’s other goals
came from Karl Fleck and Josh Nichols with two apiece, their first goals of
the campaign. In the quarter-final Canutes will meet Horncastle Town
Reserves who had received a bye in this round. The only away winners of the
day were Clayton Sports who visited Metheringham. These two sides had played
out a 1-1 draw back in November but this time Metheringham never found any
sort of form as Jake Mann gave Claytons a first half lead and then in the
second half he got a second along with one from Carl Wells who netted with
his first touch, coming on as a sub. For Claytons their quarter final tie
will see them visit the winners of the postponed tie between Nettleham
Reserves and Fulbeck United. The reward for RM Imps 3-1 victory over Middle
Rasen is a home tie against Waddington United. RM Imp went into the game on
the back of a three match winning run while Rasen had lost eleven successive
matches. Scoring for the fifth game in a row, Imps’ top scorer Joe Ayres
netted twice (his 16th of the season) along with one from Kev Thompson while
Luke Robinson netted for Rasen. The remaining quarter-final tie sees a tasty
match between Washingborough and Ivy Tavern who, in actual fact, were in
league action against each other. Washingborough were very much one of the
form sides having won their last four games and their last defeat being at
Ivy Tavern back in November. Ivy on the other hand had won just once in their
last three games and it became one win in four as a first goal of the season
from Joe Butler was enough to give Washingborough victory. This took them to
within two points of leaders Gainsborough Town Canutes although they have
played two games more. The final game saw third placed Waddington also
looking to close the gap on the league leaders as they took on a Horncastle
Town Reserves side that had won just once in their last nine games including
a home defeat against Waddington. Waddington’s leading scorer Danny Hicks had
given them the lead but with twenty minutes remaining the match came to an
abrupt end when Horncastle’s Scott Spooner suffered an horrendous double
fracture of the leg and the game was abandoned. The league wishes Scott
a speedy recovery. Richardson Trophy Gainsborough Town Canutes 9 – (D Szendrey 4, J Nichols

News for January 7 Despite Christmas being over, it was a cracker of
results with no less than 38 goals scored in the six games played. The top of
the table saw no change as Gainsborough Town Canutes retained their five
point lead at the top following a convincing victory at Nettleham Reserves.
The days’ top scorers were second placed Washingborough who comprehensively
destroyed AFC Ruston Sports. The closest encounter came at Waddington where
the home side just edged out fifth placed Clayton Sports whose defeat saw
them slip two places down the table. Climbing above them was RM Imp who beat
fourth placed Fulbeck United and Ivy Tavern who easily overcame Horncastle
Town Reserves. The days’ biggest movers were Metheringham who climbed out of
the bottom two to ninth as they beat bottom side Middle Rasen. For Gainsborough Town Canutes it was a ‘first’ as they
completed their first league double since joining the league. Having beaten
Nettleham Reserves 6-0 at home in September they secured their double with a
6-1 away win and in doing so became the first side to 50 league goals.
Leading the way for them was Lee Bognor who hit four goals, his second
hat-trick in successive games and 16th goal of the season. The other goals
came from Craig Lill who bagged his 18th goal of the season and Keiron
Locking with his first. James Cairns netted Nettleham’s goal with his first
for the team. Going one better than Bognor was Washingborough’s Tom Butcher,
who scored five in his sides 7-1 victory over AFC Ruston Sports. That took
his tally for the season to eleven. Their other two goals came from top
scorer Joe Smith, also taking him to eleven for the season. Ruston’s
consolation goal in their third successive away defeat was Brad Brooks with
his second goal of the campaign. The highest aggregate score of the day came
in the days’ top match, which saw third placed Waddington taken on fifth
placed Claytons Sports. The visitors went into the game unbeaten away from
home in the league while Waddington had lost their last home match. In a
close fought game Waddington came away with all three points on the back of a
5-4 win. Waddington showed their all-round scoring power with five different
players getting on the score-sheet. On target were Gav Mackie (10th of
season), Joe Mackie (4th of season), Danny Hicks (18th of season) Jake
Keyworth (4th of season) and Shaun Booth (8th of season). For Claytons they
too had four different scorers with their goals coming from Jake Mann (5th of
season), Danny Wells (2nd of season), Jordan Whaplington (sixth of season)
and Kev Lawson. The only clean sheet of the day was recorded at sixth placed
RM Imp who were after retaining their 100percent home record as they took on
fourth placed Fulbeck United. It was the first time in eight games that
Fulbeck had failed to score but they could not find the back of the home net
and lost for the second time in a row as RM Imp picked up their third
successive win with a 3-0 victory. The RM Imp goals were scored by Sam Booth
(second of season), Ash McKinstry (ninth of season) and Joe Ayres (14th of
season). A side looking to end a two match losing run was Ivy Tavern as they
hosted Horncastle Town Res who had picked up their first win in eight games
in their last match. Ivy ended their losing run with a 5-1 victory thanks to
goals from Danny Bee 2 (his seventh of the season in only four games for the
Ivy) John Robinson (seventh of season), Terry McDougall (third of
season),Liam Mullen (first for the club). For Horncastle Jack Baxter scored
for the fourth successive game with his fifth goal of the season. The final
game was a bottom of the table clash as bottom side Middle Rasen visited
Metheringham who had slipped to second to bottom. Rasen had lost their last
ten while Metheringham were without a win in four. Middle Rasen opened the
scoring inside three minutes with a well struck shot from Luke Robinson.
Elliott Ward levelled before the break and in the second half the home side
took control to add three more. An own goal by a Rasen defender, a second by
Ward and a first in over 50 games for the club from Chris Appleyard. As an aside the quarter-final ties in the Lincs Junior
Cup saw the holders, No 1 Pub (Grimsby) knocked out 2-0 by surprise side
Beehive United from the Grantham League. Beehive had edged Gainsborough Town
Canutes out in the last round on penalties. The Lincs League will see two
sides in the semi final as last seasons’ Lincoln League runners-up, Market
Rasen Town, beat ex-winners Moulton Harrox from the Peterborough League, 2-1
and Hykeham Town saw off Kirton Town from the Boston League 3-1. The last
side to make it through to the semi-finals is another Peterborough League
side in Pinchbeck United who won 2-1 at the third Lincs League side in the
quarter-finals, Skegness United. Lincs Junior Cup quarter-finals Beehive Utd 2-0 No 1 Pub (Gy) (Holders) Horncastle Town 3-1 Kirton Town Market Rasen Town 2-1 Moulton Harrox Skegness Utd 1-2 Pinchbeck Utd League Ivy Tavern 5 (John Robinson, Danny Bee 2, Liam Mullen,

News for December 17 On the last weekend of fixtures before Christmas, league leaders Gainsborough Town Canutes, moved five points clear at the top. Beating reigning champions Ivy Tavern saw them collect maximum points as the sides closest to them either lost their game or were inactive. Second placed Fulbeck United lost to second to bottom Nettleham Reserves while third placed Waddington United saw their game at AFC Ruston Sports called off. Suffering a third successive home defeat was fourth placed Clayton Sports who went down to fellow city side RM Imps. The only other side in the top six to win was Washingborough who beat bottom side Middle Rasen thus taking full advantage of the demise of the others to leap into second place, their highest position of the season. In the battle of ‘hopeful’ champions against ‘reigning’ champions, something had to give, as Gainsborough Town Canutes defended a 100 percent home record while Ivy Tavern were looking to maintain an unbeaten away record. Netting their 25th goal in just four league games Canutes subjected Ivy to their worst defeat of the season with a 5-1 victory. Netting his second hat-trick of the season Lee Bognor (his 9th goals of the season) led the way for the home side along with top scorer Craig Lill who bagged a brace, to take his season tally to 16 and second in the leading scorers table. With his fifth goal in three games Danny Bee got Ivy’s consolation goal. The days surprise result was the defeat of in-form side Fulbeck United on their visit to lowly Nettleham Reserves. Going into the game Fulbeck were unbeaten in their last six games but they were to suffer a 4-2 defeat as Nettleham registered back to back wins for the first time this season. On target for Nettleham were Jack Darby with two (his fifth of the season), Stuart Aisthorpe and Billy Griffiths. For Fulbeck their goals came from Chris Bates and Nathan Selby. In their local derby, Clayton Sports entertained RM Imp but suffered their worst defeat since joining the league, going down 4-1. For RM Imp it was the first occasion this season that they had won back-to-back games. The RM Imp goals came from two of their in-form goal scorers as Joe Ayres got two (his sixth in six games and 13th of the season) and Ash McKinstry who netted his fifth in three games, along with one from Danny Oxby. For Claytons, Callum Murphy scored for the fourth game in a row with his ninth of the season. Another side to record their biggest win of the season were Washingborough who visited the most out of form side, bottom placed Middle Rasen. The home side had not won a league game in five outings and were on the back of a nine-match losing run. Washingborough though, were seeking to record their best run of the season with a third victory in a row and in the end not only achieved this but also registered their best win of the season with a 5-1 victory and twelfth goal in their last three games. This saw Rasen concede their 27th goal in their last four games. On target for Washingborough was their leading scorer Joe Smith (2) with his ninth of the season, Andy McDowall (2) and the veteran Steve Carter with his third of the campaign. Rasen’s goal came with a first of the season from Ben Brown. The league now takes a short break over the Christmas
period with fixtures resuming on the 7 January so all it remains to say is a
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all involved in the WJ Harrison
Printers Saturday Football League. Clayton Sports 1 (Callum Murphy) Nettleham Res 4 (Jack Darby 2, Billy Griffiths, Stuart

News for December 10 A full league programme was scheduled for the weekend but one game fell foul of the elements as Nettleham Reserves game with Clayton Sports was postponed. The five other games played saw a variety of interesting and in some cases, surprising, results which allowed Gainsborough Town Canutes to again put a little space between them and the chasing pack. For the league leaders they came away with a hard worked victory at Metheringham while their closest rivals Waddington United surprising lost at home to Washingborough who themselves moved up into a challenging position. The highest climbers, however, were Fulbeck United, who picked up an equally surprising victory at reigning champions Ivy Tavern. Another mover was RM Imp who climbed above AFC Ruston Sports as they beat them by the days’ highest score. Final at the lower end of the table, Horncastle Town Reserves picked up their first win in eight games, inflicting defeat on Middle Rasen who suffered their ninth straight defeat. After suffering the cruelty of exiting the Lincs Junior
Cup on penalties last week league leaders Gainsborough Town Canute got back
to league business with a trip to Metheringham. Both sides were much
under-strength but Canutes took the lead early on through Craig Mettam. They
then saw top scorer Craig Lill blast a penalty over the bar before doubling
their lead through another penalty, this time taken by Ash Page. A goal rout
looked on the cards but Metheringham came back to reduce the lead with a
well-struck goal from Mitch Hovey. In the second half both keepers were
called on to make telling saves but Canutes made the game safe with two late
goals in quick succession near the end, one from Lill (his 14th of the
season) and the other a long range lob over the stranded home keeper from Lee
Bognor (his sixth). Waddington United who, prior to their home game with
Washingborough, were level on points at the head of the table with
Canutes. Washingborough had won only once in their last three games and
had not won an away game in the league while the home side was unbeaten in
their last five. Much against form, one has to accept, Washingborough won by
the odd goal in five with goals from Tom Butcher (2) (his sixth of the
season) and Steve Carter, while the league top scorer, Danny Hicks, netted
both goals for Waddington, taking him to 17 for the season and ten in his
last four games. With fourth placed Clayton Sports game with Nettleham
Reserves postponed the surprise side of the moment, Fulbeck United, had the
chance to put themselves into a challenging position should they win at fifth
placed Ivy Tavern. These two sides had shared a 2-2 draw back at the start of
November and since then Fulbeck had gone four games unbeaten. Ivy went into the
game on the back of two straight wins but their disappointing home record was
to continue as they lost their third home game as Fulbeck won for the fourth
occasion on the road with an excellent 4-2 victory. On target for Fulbeck
were Paul Crampton (his fifth of the season), Mark Walker (his eighth), Will
Hayward and Chris Dalziel. For Ivy Danny Bee netted his fourth goal in two
games and Terry McDougall got his second of the campaign. Victory saw Fulbeck
move into the dizzy heights of second on the strength of having scored one
more goal than Waddington United although both sides have the same goal
difference. Further down the table there was a local ‘city derby’ as seventh
placed AFC Ruston Sports visited eighth placed RM Imp. Imp, along with
leaders Canutes were the only two sides with 100 percent home records.
Rustons went into the game looking for their first league double of the
season having beaten their opponents in a close fought encounter just two
weeks previous. This game proved less than close as RM Imp romped to the
days’ biggest score of 6-0, a victory that saw them leap-frog their
opponents. Bagging the Imp goals were Ash McKinstry (2) (his seventh of the
season), Jason Tinkler (2) (his fourth), Joe Ayres (one, his 11th) and Lee
Tinkler. One side that did collect their first league double of the
season though, was Horncastle Town Reserves, who took on bottom side Middle
Rasen. Horncastle were without a win since mid October while Middle
Rasen’s last victory was back at the end of September. Rasen have yet
to pick up an away point and their wait continues as Horncastle ran out
comfortable 4-1 victors. Horncastle’s prolific striker Will Carter bagged the
days only hat-trick (his sixth goal of the season), with Jack Baxter
got his third goal in successive games. For Rasen, Ian Smith scored for the
second game in a row. Horncastle Town Res 4 (Will Carter 3, Jack Baxter) Middle Rasen 1 (Ian Smith) Ivy Tavern CSA 2 (Danny Bee, T MacDougall) Fulbeck Utd 4 (Paul Crampton, Mark Walker, Will Hayward,

News for December 3 The Lincoln League’s last surviving side in the Lincs Junior Cup, Gainsborough Town Canutes saw a cruel exit from the competition, going out on penalties, after their game with Grantham League side Beehive United was all square after extra time. While Canutes were involved in cup action they also saw
Waddington United become their main rivals for the title as they went level
on points with them at the top of the table with a resounding victory over RM
Imp. Waddington were the only movers in the table this weekend as draw
specialists Fulbeck United, in fourth place, were held to a draw by
Metheringham. Washingborough, although they did not move up the table either,
went level on points with fifth placed Ivy Tavern, as they beat Horncastle
Town Reserves. The only other game saw second to bottom side Nettleham
Reserves pick up a long awaited victory as they overcame seventh placed AFC
Ruston Sports. In the remaining Lincs Junior Cup tie for Lincoln League
sides, Gainsborough Town Canutes hosted Grantham League highfliers Beehive
United in their round four tie. The Grantham based side had lost only once
this season and hade netted 24 goals in their last three games. This season
they had already knocked out two other Lincoln League sides in Washingborough
and AFC Ruston Sports. The tie was all-square after extra time at 3-3 but it
was Beehive who held their nerve the better in the penalty shoot out going
through to the last eight 4-3 on spot kicks. Canutes goals came from Joe
Owen, two (his sixth of season) and Craig Lill (his 13th of the season). While in cup action Canutes also saw Waddington United
draw level with them at the head of the table although they still hold top spot
on goal difference. Waddington’s only league reverse to date was against
Canutes, back at the beginning of October. They were looking for a fifth win
in a row as they took on RM Imp who lost for the first time in three games
last week. Incidentally this corresponding fixture, last season, produced 11
goals. This time Waddington stormed into a 4-0 lead with the potent strike
force of Danny Hicks and Shaun Booth doing the damage. Hicks' third goal of
these four was the best of the game as he completed an excellent flowing team
move with a sublime chip from 25 yards under the bar. The Imp pulled one back
with a stunning free kick from Ash McKinstry but Booth and Hicks added
further goals to make it 6-1. Waddington took their foot off the gas somewhat
and McKinstry and Joe Ayres narrowed the margin but Booth completed the
scoring and his hat trick from the spot to complete a 7-3 score-line. It was
Hicks’ third hat trick of the season and fifteenth in total, while for Booth
it was his seventh. For RM Imps, who are the only side to have scored in
every game this season, it was Ash McKinstry 5th of the season and Joe Ayres
6th. As for fourth placed Fulbeck United, they were looking for a league
double inside seven days, as they hosted Metheringham, who they had beaten
2-0, last week. Metheringham were looking to retain an unbeaten away record
but they found themselves two down inside the opening minutes as Mark Walker
(7th of season) and Josh Woodman gave Fulbeck the upper hand. Meg clawed
their way into the game and reduced the arrears before the break through Liam
Hargrave. In the second half the visitors put Fulbeck under a lot of pressure
and deservedly levelled through Elliott Ward. For Fulbeck it was their third
draw in five home games. For sixth place Washingborough they were seeking to
get back to winning ways after two recent defeats. Their opponents were
Horncastle Town Reserves, whose losing run was even worse as they were on the
back of a six match losing run. This
was to become seven defeats as the villagers ran out comfortable 4-1 victors.
On target for them were Tom Butcher (4th of season), Joe Smith (7th of
season) Andy McDowall (2nd of season) and Mark Wilkinson (his first of the
season). Jack Baxter (his third of the season) scored for Horncastle. In the
final game Nettleham Reserves, the last side without a home win, took on an
AFC Ruston Sports sides whose only away win was back on the opening day of
the season. Nettleham had won only once this season and that had come five
games previous when they beat Ivy Tavern in mid October. Keeping their first
clean sheet in five games they won 3-0 with goals from Jake Longworth (2)
(his first goals of the season) and Jack Darby (his 3rd of the season, but
first since September). In the Lincs Junior Cup this County competition has now
become Lincs League orientated as they have four sides in the last eight in
Market Rasen Town, Hykeham Town, Skegness United and Horncastle Town. Also
going through are holders No 1 Pub from Grimsby, Pinchbeck United from the Peterborough
League and either their league counterparts, Moulton Harrox or Grantham
League side Barrowby United who drew 1-1 (result of penalty shoot out not
known). News for November 26 Again it was another full league programme with results seeing no change in the top half of the table as the top five all came away with victories. Gainsborough Town Canutes went on a goal fest hitting the seasons’ top score when hosting bottom side Middle Rasen. Second placed Clayton Sports remained within two points of them as they made it four games without defeat when meeting second to bottom side Nettleham Reserves. Then a further point back, but with a game in hand, come Waddington United who edged out Horncastle Town Reserves, who have now lost their last five league games. Four points behind the leaders, in fourth place, are Fulbeck who inflicted defeat on the last unbeaten side in the league, Metheringham. The top clash of the day saw fifth placed Ivy Tavern reap revenge for an early season cup defeat as they comfortably beat sixth place Washingborough. The biggest movers of the day were AFC Ruston Sports who climbed from tenth to seventh with the defeat of RM Imp. For leaders Gainsborough Town Canutes they hosted bottom
side Middle Rasen looking to maintain their 100% home record and this they
did at ease with the seasons’ highest score of 9-2. Geno Robinson netted four
(his first goals since September) along with two each from Lee Bognor and
Dean Szendrey (their fifth of the season) and an own goal. Netting their
first away goals of the season for Middle Rasen were Luke Robinson (1st of
season) and Ian Smith (2nd of season). Second placed Claytons, after being
held to a draw last week, got back to winning ways with a narrow 3-2 victory
over lowly Nettleham Reserves, who have to go back five games for their last
win. Callum Murphy netted two of Claytons goals, his fourth in three games
and eight in total, while their other goal came from Jamie Hatton with his
seventh of the campaign. John Cragg (fourth of season) netted both
Nettleham’s goals. The side with the only 100% away record in the league,
Waddington United, visited a Horncastle Town Reserves side that was looking
to maintain an unbeaten home record. Waddington hoping to end the month on a
high but found themselves a goal behind after 10 minutes as Jack Baxter (2nd
of season) put the hosts ahead. Waddington equalised 5 minutes later and what
a goal it was! Jake Keyworth (his third of season) neatly chipped the ball
over his marker, turned and volleyed the ball into the top corner. Gav Mackie
(ninth of season) doubled the lead on 25 minutes and Danny Hicks (11th of
season) made it 3-1 ten minutes later. Horncastle began the second half well
and narrowed the deficit to 3-2 midway through the half as Jacob Wilson (1st
of season) found the back of the net. For the remaining 20 minutes,
Horncastle pushed hard but Waddington managed to hold on for all three points
but Horncastle's efforts and much improved performance was certainly worthy
of a draw. Having netted thirteen goals in their last two games, fourth
placed Fulbeck United visited the only unbeaten side in the league,
Metheringham. Fulbeck made in four games without defeat with a goal in each
half, one from Chris Dalziel (his first for the club), as he lobbed the ball
into an empty net following a collision with home keeper Sam Davis and one
for Dom Fieldhouse (his fourth in three games), a killer goal midway through
second half. Another player to score his first for the club was Danny Bee who
bagged a hat-trick in Ivy Tavern’s excellent 4-1 victory over a
Washingborough side who have now lost their last two games and are still in
search of a first away win. Ivy’s other goal came from John Robinson (6th of
season) with George King (2nd of season) scoring Washingborough’s consolation
goal. The final game saw a local derby between tenth placed AFC Rustons
Sports and eighth placed RM Imp. Rustons were looking for a first win in four
games while RM Imp were seeking a third win in a row. In another tight game
the points went to Rustons by the odd goal in three. Ruston’s goals came from
Jamie Colby (first of season) and an own goal with Ryan Thompson (1st of
season) netting for RM Imp. The win lifted Rustons above RM Imp in the table
from tenth to seventh with RM Imp slipping to eighth. News for November 19 A full league programme saw league leaders Gainsborough
Town Canutes get back to winning ways with a resounding win over Horncastle Town
Reserves after their surprise defeat of last week. They took a two-point lead
at the top of the table after closest rivals Clayton Sports were held at
unbeaten Metheringham. Hot on the heels of these two are Waddington United
who went third after completing their first league double with victory at
bottom side Nettleham Reserves. Two other movers in the table were Fulbeck
United, who climbed into fourth place after their big win at Middle Rasen
while Ivy Tavern went fifth with a narrow win over AFC Ruston Sports.
Slipping down the table though were Washingborough who dropped from third to
sixth after their surprise defeat at RM Imps who moved up from 10th to
seventh. After losing for the first time in the league last week,
Gainsborough Town Canutes got back to winning ways in a big way as they beat
Horncastle Town Reserves 7-0. For Horncastle, who just a few weeks ago sat
equal top, it was their fourth successive league defeat. On target for
Canutes were Danny Martin, Joe Owen and Joe Bognor, all with two apiece and
Craig Lill one, taking him to eleven for the season. As for Clayton Sports,
who had quietly climbed into second place on goal difference, they visited
Metheringham, the last unbeaten side in the league. These two had already met
in cup action with Claytons having won 7-0 but this proved a different
affair. Clayton missed an early penalty but took the lead eight minutes into
the second half through Callum Murphy with his sixth goal of the season.
Metheringham levelled with a first of the season from Elliott Ward, who
netted with the deftest of chips on the hour. Before the end both sides could
have taken all three points but a draw proved a fair result. With games in
hand on the two sides above them Waddington Utd travelled to injury ravaged Nettleham
for their first game in three weeks and it was not long into the game when
Danny Hicks put the visitors ahead with a crisp drive from 15
yards. Hicks doubled the score with the goal of the game; a wonderful
flowing move which Hicks finished with a delightful chip over Chris Lamming
in the Nettleham goal. Matt Truelove reduced the deficit but Gav
Mackie's shot beat Lamming at the near post to re-establish the two goal
cushion. John Cragg pulled one back for Nettleham however, the lack of substitutes
began to tell for Nettleham and goal machine Hicks completed his hat trick to
make it 4-2 and Ryan Creane's sweet free kick made the final score 5-2.
Another side full of goals at the moment are Fulbeck United who in the last
two games have hit 13 goals. Making the long trip to Middle Rasen who were
without a win in six games, they came away with an excellent 7-1 victory.
Matt Walker, after netting his first club goals last week, bagged four along
with one each from Olly Tasker (his first for the club in three seasons),
James Barnett and Dominic Fieldhouse (his third in two games). Will Bradford
netted Rasen’s consolation goal. After failing to raise a side last week,
reigning champions hosted AFC Ruston Sports and came away with a narrow 2-1
victory with goals form George Brown and Jamie Sayce, their first of the
season. James Bland netted for Rustons. Surprise result of the day was
perhaps witnessed at RM Imp who took on a Washingborough side that had lost
only once in five league games. For RM Imp it was back to back wins for the
first time this season with two well taken goals from Joe Ayres (8th of
season) and Kev Thompson while
Richard Belcher scored for Washingborough.

News for November 12 It was back to league business this weekend with a full league programme and it saw defeat for Gainsborough Town Canutes. The league leaders lost their 100% record at Washingborough who, themselves, climbed up to third after securing their third league win in a row. Climbing up to second place were Clayton Sports who subjected Middle Rasen to a sixth successive defeat. Previous highfliers Horncastle Town slipped down to fifth as they suffered a fourth successive reverse with defeat at Fulbeck, who moved up to sixth. Another climber was Metheringham who were playing only their second league game after six successive cup games. With victory at AFC Rustons they are now the only unbeaten side in the league. The final game should have seen Waddington United host reigning champions Ivy Tavern but the visitors were unable to fulfil the fixture. Gainsborough Town Canutes visited form side
Washingborough who were unbeaten in their last four games. Despite an
eleventh goal of the season from Craig Lill the league newcomers went down
3-1 as Washingborough saw first goals for the club from Oliver Cooper (2) and
Andy McDowall. Playing their third home game in a row Claytons made it
back to back wins as they beaten Middle Rasen 3-0. On target for them were
Callum Murphy (his fifth of the season) and first club goals for Ash Woodhall
and Nathan Booth. There were also first goals of the season for Fulbeck from
Mark Walker (2), Dominic Fieldhouse (2) and Rob McDonald as Horncastle Town
were beaten 6-1. Their other scorer was Nathan Selby while Carl Smith hit his
eighth of the season for Horncastle. With Gainsborough Town Canutes losing
their unbeaten record the only unbeaten side left in the league are
Metheringham who had played just one league game so far, way back on 4 Sept.
They secured a second league win as they beat AFC Rustons 3-2. On target for
the villagers were Matt Hardy and Rikki Smith (with their first goals of the
season) and Mark Jordan (his 4th). For Rustons John Ambrose netted his first
goal along with Michael Bland (his 2nd). The final game saw Nettleham lose
their fifth league game in six starts as RM Imp collected their first league
win since the opening day of the season. The city sides goals came from Joe
Ayres (his 8th of the season), Ross Simpson (his 2nd) and Sam Booth (his
first). Also scoring his first of the season was Jonathan Jenkins as he
netted Nettleham’s consolation goal. AFC Ruston Sports 2 (J Ambrose, M Bland) Metheringham 3 (M Hardy, R Smith, M Jordan) Clayton Sports 3 (C Murphy, A Woodhall, N Booth) Middle Rasen 0 Fulbeck 6 (M Walker 2, D Fieldhouse 2, N Selby, R

News for November 5 It was a less than satisfactory day for our four remaining sides in the Lincs Junior Cup with just one making it through to Round 4. That was Gainsborough Town Canutes who overcame ex Lincoln League ‘giants’ Heckington United who now play in the Lincs League. Of the other three, AFC Rustons lost at Grantham League side Beehive Utd, Metheringham, also on the road, lost to Lincs League side Market Rasen Town and RM Imp lost at home to Peterborough League side, Crowland Town. In the league Clayton Sports were the only movers in the
league as they thrashed Horncastle Town to go above them into third position.
Retaining eighth and fifth places respective were Fulbeck Utd who shared the
points with reigning champions Ivy Tavern CSA. Also staying in bottom place
was Nettleham who narrowly lost at Washingborough, who remained in sixth
place. Back to the Lincs Junior Cup, league leaders
Gainsborough Town Canute had a huge task in front of them as they visited
Heckington Utd who have an excellent record in this competition. The match
saw seven goals scored with the winner coming in the last minute, from Lee
Bognor as he completed his hat-trick (also his first goals of the season).
Canutes other goal in their 4-3 victory was Craig Lill (his 10th goal of the
season). Another side to visit a Lincs League side was Metheringham who
travelled to Market Rasen Town, who last season finished runners-up in our
league. Rasen took control of the game with two first half goals and added a
third in the second half for a comprehensive victory. The third of our sides
to be drawn away was AFC Ruston Sports who travelled to Grantham League side
Beehive Utd. They too were comprehensively beaten, 5-0. The only side with a home tie was RM Imp
who entertained Peterborough Premier League side Crowland Town. Last seasons’ top scorer Jason Tinkler
netted for RM Imp (only his second goal of the season) but Crowland responded
with three of their own to progress into round four. In league action the top game saw third placed
Horncastle Town visit Clayton Sports. The city side was looking for their
first home win while Horncastle were seeking to end a two-match losing run.
In the end Clayton’s not only secure their first win but registered their
highest league win of the season with a 7-2 victory to climb into third
position. There were first hat-tricks of the season for both Jordan
Whaplington (5th of season) and Jamie Hatton (6th of season) along with one
from Carl Wells. On target for Horncastle were Will Clark and Harry Hinkley
with their first goals of the season. Another side looking for their first
home win was Fulbeck United who saw Ivy Tavern as their visitors. In the end
there was victory for neither side as they shared a 2-2 draw. On target for
Fulbeck with their first goals of the season were Dan Geraghty and Dan
Pinfold while John Robinson bagged both Ivy’s goals, his fifth of the season.
In the final game Washingborough hosted Nettleham looking to continue their
three match unbeaten league and cup run and this they did with a narrow 2-1
victory. Joe Smith netted both Washingborough’s goal, making it five goals in
his last four games (and sixth for the season in total). News for October 29 Again it was a weekend of cup action as three of the five games played saw sides vying for their places in this seasons’ semi finals. Two ties were in the Village Trophy with Waddington making it to the semi finals for the third successive season. In the second tie Nettleham made it to their first Village Trophy semi final in 30 years. Their last appearance was back in 1981/2 when they beat Wragby 1-0. They then went on to win the competition, beating Billinghay 2-1. The third cup-tie was the outstanding David Cooper Cup
quarter-final tie which saw RM Imp reach their first semi-final since joining
the league last season. In league action, Gainsborough Town Canute brushed aside
their first defeat in 18 months with a comprehensive win at Clayton Sports as
they maintained their 100% league record. At the other end of the table,
Washingborough moved off the bottom as they picked up their first league win
of the season. Waddington United were looking to progress through to
their second semi final of the season as they faced Middle Rasen in the
Village Trophy. Waddington soon took command as an exquisite Danny Hicks lob
put Waddington one up. James Hulse made it 2-0 before the break with a
stunning strike from just outside the box. Waddington continued to squander
chances in the second half until Joe Mackie finished off Michael O'Boyles
excellent work with a crisp finish from 10 yards out. Waddington’s fourth
came courtesy of an own goal when a cross was headed home by a Rasen
defender. Trev Taylor pulled one back for Middle Rasen with five minutes
remaining as his shot found its way past Matty Waite's desperate dive in
the Waddington goal. As for Nettleham Reserves, they had to concede home
advantage due to their pitch being unavailable, as they took on Metheringham.
Nettleham who were fresh from their excellent win at Ivy Tavern last week
always looked the more inventive as Metheringham were shaking off the cobwebs
having not played for three weeks. Chances were few and far between but
Nettleham took the lead just before the break when defender Sam Hewis headed
home from a free kick. The second half was end to end but the killer goal
came 15 minutes from time, courtesy of an assist by referee John Scaife. During
a Nettleham attack, Meg cleared their lines, but the ball rebounded off the
referee to fall kindly to Matt Truelove who drilled home his second goal in
successive matches. The draw for the semi-final of this competition sees
Nettleham Reserves entertain last season’s losing finalist Waddington United
while cup holders Washingborough take on Fulbeck United. The ties will take
place on 25 February 2012. In the outstanding David Cooper Cup tie something had to
give as both Horncastle Town and opponents RM Imp had gone out of this
competition in the quarter-finals last season. On the day it was RM Imp who
made it to their first semi final with a 4-2 victory. Hero of the hour was
without doubt Joe Ayres, who netted all four goals for his side. Horncastle’s
goal came from Carl Smith (with his seventh goal of the campaign) and Luke
Shelbourne. In the semi-final RM Imp will visit last season’s losing
semi finalists Waddington United while the second semi final sees newcomers
Clayton Sports (in their first semi final) host last seasons losing
finalists. These ties will take place on 10 March 2012. In league action league leaders Gainsborough Town Canute
visited fifth placed Clayton Sports who were looking to secure their first
home win of the season. After shipping in five goals without reply last week
Canutes made amends for their blip with a solid 3-0 victory. Their goals came
from Geo Robinson, Dan Martin (his sixth of the season) and Anthony la Rocca.
For the visitors it was their four clean sheet in seven games. Defeat saw
Claytons slip one place to sixth while Gainsborough took a three-point lead
at the top. In the final game bottom side Washingborough took on
Fulbeck United for the second match in a row and the third time this season.
Last week, in the David Cooper Cup Washingborough won 4-1 and early, in
league action, the two sides shared six goals. This time Washingborough won 3-0 with goals from Joe Smith (his
4th of the season), George King and Tom Butcher. Village Trophy quarter-finals Nettleham 2 (Sam Hewis, Matt Truelove) Waddington Utd 4 (Danny Hicks, James Hulse, Joe Mackie,

News for October 22 Once again the day was mainly taken up with cup action as six sides battled it out for their places in the semi final of this seasons’ David Cooper Cup. Of the three ties played one of the results caught everyone out and that was the game between the two sides presently battling it out for supremacy in the league. The other two ties perhaps saw the expected outcome. In the league games played both results went much
against form. Of the five games that were played 23 goals were scored with no
less than 12 of the goals coming from players with their first strikes of the
season. As stated, the result of the day showed that Gainsborough Town
Canutes are beatable as Waddington came away from their David Cooper Cup
quarter final with them 5-0 victors. This was Canutes first defeat in over 18
months and their air of invincibility had previously seen sides collapse
before them. Shaun Booth opened the scoring on 25 minutes as he cut in from
the left and unleashed a thunderous shot into the bottom corner. Gav Mackie
doubled the advantage, turning sharply in the box to blast the ball home.
Danny Hicks made it 3-0 just before half time, finishing a pass from Mackie
from close range. Gainsborough looked dejected as they went into the interval
and 3-0 became 4-0 in the second period as Mackie capped an awesome
individual performance with a second goal, albeit a scrappy affair following
a scramble in the box after the Canutes keeper had fumbled the ball.
Waddington put the icing on the cake with a fifth, Booth following up a shot
from James Hulse to finish from close range. Credit must be given to referee
Jack Forder for his performance in the game. ‘Canutes’ have set the League
and Cups alight since joining our league with some fantastic football but
this result shows that the they are beatable as they failed to score for the
first occasion. In one of the other ties, last seasons’ losing finals, Washingborough
produced a workmanlike performance as they defeated Fulbeck United 4-1. Of
the five goals scored, four came from players on target for the first
occasion this season with three netting their first for the club. For
Washingborough there were first club goals for Matt Forbes and Richard
Belcher with Lee Welbourn scoring his first of the season while Joe Smith got
the other (his third of the campaign). Fulbeck’s goal saw a first for the
club from Josh Woodman. In the third game, the closest contested tie of the
three, Middle Rasen were beating at home by the odd goal in five by newcomers
Clayton Sports who made it to their first semi final. For Claytons James
Hatton bagged a hat-trick, his first club goals with Ian Smith (his first of
the season) and Darren Salmon (third of season) scoring for the home side. In league action, perhaps the surprise of the day came
at reigning champions Ivy Tavern who entertained bottom side Nettleham, who
had yet to pick up a league point and had scored only one goal. For Ivy it
was only their second home game but they were still seeking their first home
win so something had to give. The 3-0 score-line to Nettleham was without
doubt more than a surprise with all thee goals for the victors, first of the
season for the scorers. These came from Kyle Honeyman, Matt Truelove and John
Cragg and the win lifted Nettleham off the bottom. The only other game saw Horncastle Town Reserves, who had
climbed to equal top ((third on goal difference) looking for a fourth
successive win. Visiting AFC Ruston Sports, it was however their first
week-end game in three matches as their previous two victories had been on a
Friday evening. As for Rustons, they were looking for their first league win
since the opening game of the season and this they achieved with a
workmanlike performance after trailing 2-0 at the break through goals from
Horncastle by Luke Shelbourn (first of the season) and Carl Smith (his
sixth). For Rustons Bradley Brooks and Michael Bland got their first for the
club along with one from Johnny Walker (his second). The win put AFC Rustons
up to sixth in the table while Horncastle retained third place. News for October 15 It was Amateur Cup quarter-finals day for eight of our sides this weekend. Three of the four ties ended in home wins with the only visiting side to come away with a victory being cup holders Fulbeck United, who travelled to Middle Rasen. Last seasons losing finalist Waddington United lost at Ivy Tavern CSA; Gainsborough Town Canute, once again, went on the goal rampage, when hosting Nettleham Reserves and Washingborough reaped revenge on Clayton Sports, who beat them in their last outing. In the league, Horncastle Town Reserves again chose to
play on a Friday night and it obviously suits them as they picked up a third
win in a row to now find themselves in the dizzy heights of equal top (third on
goal difference). For Amateur Cup holders Fulbeck United they made the
long trip to Middle Rasen but it proved totally worthwhile as they maintained
their 100 percent away record with a 5-3 victory. There were first goals of
the season for all their scorers with Nick Bates (2), Gav Chapman (2) and
Chris Bates on target. For Middle Rasen their scorers were, Dale Kennedy (his
third of the season), Vic Kolev (his 2nd) and Trev Taylor. In the semi final
Fulbeck will entertain Ivy Tavern, who knocked out last seasons losing finals
Waddington United. John Robinson (with his third of the season) scored the
only goal of the game. The goal came midway through the second half when a
huge clearance from Ivy goalkeeper, Rick Chester, was not dealt with and
Robinson nipped in to tuck the ball home past Matty Waite into the Waddington
net. Chester had pulled off two great saves from Joe Foster and Shaun Booth
at the start of the second half to keep the scores level but Waddington were
unable to break down the Ivy defence. In the other ties, newcomers
Gainsborough Town Canute made it to the semi final after totally destroying
the youthful Nettleham Reserves side 7-0. Nettleham have now scored just once
in their last four games while on the other hand ‘Canutes’ can not stop
scoring as they have now run in 35 in six games. This week their goals came
from Craig Lill (5) (his ninth of the season), Bradley Thomas (his 5th) and
Jamie Shaw. In their first ever semi fnal in the Lincoln League ‘Canutes’
will meet Washingborough who beat Clayton Sports 3-0. It was the first time
Claytons had failed to score since they joined the league. As for
Washingborough, who lost 2-0 to Claytons in the league last time out, their
three goals came from Tom Butcher, who netted twice, on his debut and Joe
Smith with his second goal of the campaign. In the league, as stated, Horncastle Town Reserves have
obviously found Friday night football suits their cause well, as they secured
a third win in a row for the first time since the 2007-8 season. This week
they beat RM Imp, who last week had an excellent away win in the Lincs Junior
Cup at Ivy Tavern. The man of the match for Horncastle was Carl Smith who
bagged four, along with one from Jack Baxter. For RM Imp their goals came
Luke Fields (his 2nd of the season), Danny Oxby and Ross Simpson (both with
their first goals). Following last weeks Lincs Junior Cup ties, the draw for
round three did our four remaining clubs no favours at all. Only one side, RM
Imp, received a home tie, and they entertain Crowland Town, who are presently
second to bottom of the Peterborough & District Premier League. Of the
others, Gainsborough Town Canute visit ex Lincoln League giants Heckington
United, who are presently sitting in mid table in the Lincs League. Metheringham
also meet Lincs League opposition as they visit, Market Rasen Town who were
runners-up in our league last season, before moving up a league. Finally, AFC
Ruston Sports visit Beehive United who are presently fourth in the Grantham
& District Premeir League. These ties take place on November 5. League Horncastle Town 5-3 RM Imp (H - C Smith 4, J Baxter; A -

News for October 8 For nine of our sides it was Lincs Junior Cup round two
day and of those nine sides, two were guaranteed progress into the next
round, as they were meeting fellow Lincoln League sides. On the day a total
of four sides from our league progressed into the next round and they were
Metheringham, Gainsborough Town Canute, RM Imp and AFC Ruston Sports who all
had success on the road. Metheringham visited Scunthorpe Leagues bottom side
Crosby Colts and came away with a comfortable 4-0 victory thanks to goals from
Rikki Smith (2), Mark Jordan and Sam Davis. As for Gainsborough Town Canutes
they visited fellow league rivals, Fulbeck United and made it 28 goals in
five games since joining the league, registering a 6-0 victory. Their goals
came from Joe Owen with a hat-trick and one each from Craig Lill, Ash Page
and Ben Noble. As for RM Imp they
recorded a more than satisfying win at reigning champions Ivy Tavern who have
now lost at home twice this season after losing only once on home soil all
last season. Pete Rea scored his first goal of the season for Ivy while the
RM Imp goals came from Joe Ayers, Ash McKinstry (his third in successive
game), Liam Uzzell and Rick Wheatley. The other victors on the road were AFC
Ruston Sports who visited Boston League Division One side, Wainfleet United
and came away with a 1-0 victory thanks to a Jamie Clough goal. As for the
sides who slipped out of the competition, Clayton Sports, who were making
their debut in the competition, lost 3-1 to last season’s Lincoln League
runners up, Market Rasen Town (now members of the Lincs League). Another side
meeting Lincs League opposition were Middle Rasen who hosted bottom side and
winless, CGB Humbertherm, but were well beaten 7-0. Perhaps the most unfortunate side to go out though were our
highflying side, Waddington United, who visited Pinchbeck United (presently
third in the Peterborough and District Premier League). A goal from Danny
Hicks saw the two sides play out a 1-1 draw and despite extra time, nothing
could separate the two sides but it was the home side who held their heads
the stronger in the penalty shoot out going through 3-2. While these sides were in cup action, Horncastle Town
Reserves and Nettleham Reserves contested a league game which saw Horncastle
collect back to back wins for the first time since October 2009. On target in
their 1-0 win was the prolific Will Carter with his third goal in two games.
Victory saw Horncastle climb from ninth up to fifth, their highest placing in
some time. As for Nettleham they continue to hold bottom place as they still
seek their first league win. League Horncastle Town 1-0 Nettleham (H – W Carter) Lincs Junior Cup round two Clayton Sports 1-3 Market Rasen Town Crosby Colts 0-4 Metheringham (A - R Smith 2, M Jordan, S Davis) Fulbeck Utd 0-6 Gainsborough Town Canute (A – J Owen 3,

News for October 1 In a weekend of league fixtures it proved a day for the away sides as they all came away with victories. This included another victory for Gainsborough Town Canutes who have certainly expressed their intent on joining the league this season. They have now hit 22 goals in four games including 17 in three league games. Visiting league leaders and previously unbeaten
Waddington United, Gainsborough Canute made it three wins in a row as they
went above their opponents on goal difference following their 4-2
victory. Danny Martin, who netted for
his third league game in a row, bagged two, along with one each from Craig
Lill and Carl Mallett. Waddington, who had previously conceded just one goal
in four games, saw Lee Wright and Gav Mackie score for them. For Mackie it was
his fifth goal in three games. After an opening day defeat, another of the
newcomers is also now showing their intent, and that is Clayton Sports. They
picked up their third win in a row this weekend with an excellent 2-0 victory at Washingborough who have
yet to register a league win this season. On target for Claytons were Jodie
Hallam and Craig Murray (his fourth in four games). As for reigning champions
Ivy Tavern, they got back to winning ways after their surprise reverse last
week as they won 3-1 at Nettleham who have now slipped to bottom place. Steve
Gilliatt scored for the second week in a row along with a first goal of the
season from stalwart veteran, Richard Toone and a first for the club from Tom
Hewis. Moving away from the foot of the table for the first occasion this
season is Horncastle Town who won by the odd goal in seven at Middle Rasen,
who had registered their first and only victory of the season, last week.
Horncastle’s top scorer of last season, Will Carter got back into goal scoring
ways with two, along with first goals for the team from Darryl Dunn and Rob
Rawdon. For Middle Rasen, Chris Potter and Vic Kolev scored their first of
the season, along with one from Darren Salmon (his second in successive
games). The final game saw Fulbeck United record their first win of the
season against an AFC Rustons side that suffered their third successive
league and cup defeat after opening the season with a win. For Fulbeck, Sam Mason hit two (his fourth
in three games) Paul Crampton (his third in successive games) and a first of
the season for Nathan Selby while Jonny Walker bagged his first of the season
for the city side. AFC Ruston Sports 1-4 Fulbeck Utd (H, J Walker; A, S

News for September 24 David Cooper Cup round one: Again it was cup weekend with three Round One matches
being contested in the David Cooper Cup. These three ties also included a
repeat of last seasons’ final with holders Ivy Tavern visiting
Washingborough. The two other ties saw Clayton Sports making their first
appearance in the competition when hosting Metheringham and league leaders
Waddington United taking on AFC Rustons. There were also two league games with one seeing
Gainsborough Town Canute looking to continue their winning start, facing a
Nettleham side, seeking their first league goal. The second game also saw
Middle Rasen looking to kick start their season after having already conceded
11 goals in their opening two games take on RM Imp. The tie of the round in the David Cooper Cup was without
doubt the repeat of last seasons Sincil Bank final which saw Ivy Tavern beat
Washingborough 3-2. For this first round tie, Washingborough had home
advantage and this they took full use of as they reaped revenge by winning by
the odd goal in five. Their goals came from Joe Smith, Steve Cater and Rhett
Smith with Ivy’s goals coming from Jonny Bell and Terry McDougall. The other two ties, in total contrast,
were less close affairs, as no less than 17 goals were scored in the two
games with the losing sides failing to get even a consolation goal. Newcomers
Claytons Sports cruised into the quarter finals as they hit Metheringham with
a seven goal salvo. Their goals came from Jake Mann (3), Jordan Wapplingon
(2), Jodie Halm and Ashley Gray. In the other tie, a free scoring Waddington
United hit their twentieth goal of the season in just four games with a 10-0
victory over AFC Ruston Sports. On target for them were Danny Hicks (4), Gaz
Mackie (3), Sean Booth (2) and Michael O’Boyle. The quarter-finals draw – to be played on October 22 is: Gainsborough Town Canute v Waddington Utd Horncastle Town v RM Imp Middle Rasen v Clayton Sports Washingboorugh v Fulbeck Utd In the league, unbeaten Gainsborough Town Canute, were
looking to close the gap on leaders Waddington Utd as they took on a Nettleham
side still seeking their first league point. Canute made it two wins out of
two with a comprehensive 6-0 victory and have now scored 13 goals in their
opening two league games. Netting their goals were Dean Szendrey (2), Joe
Owen , Craig Lill, Danny Martin and Geno Robinson. In the final game bottom
side Middle Rasen took on an RM Imp side who had picked up their first league
win in their last game. This game proved a really close affair with Middle
Rasen securing their first points of the season with a narrow 2-1 victory. On
target for Rasen were Darren Salmon and Dale Kennedy with Ashley McKinstry
getting RM Imp’s goal. Amateur Cup – quarter-finals draw – to be played October

who visited Middle Rasen, not having conceded a goal and netted five in their
previous two games. On the
day all four cup ties were won by the away sides, with one going to extra
time and a total of 24 goals scored in the four games. Ivy Tavern visited AFC
Rustons Sports and got back to winning ways with a convincing 4-1
victory. Danny Kisby scored for the home side with Ivy’s goals coming from
new signing Johnny Bell, Daz Walker, a rare Jamie Gilliatt goal and John

goals apiece for Paul Crompton (Fulbeck) and Paul Nicholson (Washingborough)
and one each from Sam Mason (Fulbeck) nd Alex Knibbs (Washingborough). The
draw for the next round of the Lincs Junior Cup saw nine of our sides go
into the hat and it ensured at least two sides will go into round three as it
produced two ‘all Lincoln League’ ties. Fulbeck Utd are set to host newcomers
Gainsborough Town Canute and Ivy Tavern will take on fellow Lincoln side RM
Imp. As for the other ties, Metheringham make old acquaintances with
Scunthorpe League side Crosby Colts who they last met in this competition in
the 1960s; Middle Rasen host Lincolnshire League side CGB Humbertherm;
Claytons Sports entertain Market Rasen Town, who left the Lincoln League for
the Lincolnshire League this season. As for our two remaining clubs, they head

News for September 3 League: Clayton Sports 1 (Jake Mann),
AFC Ruston Sports 3 (Dave Curtis 2, Jamie Clough); Fulbeck Utd 0 Waddington
Utd 1 (Kieran O'Boyle); Gainsborough Town Canutes 7 (Bradley Thomas 4, Danny
Martin 2, Craig Lill), R M Imp 2 (Jason Tinkler 2); Metheringham 5 (Kennie
Tant 2, Guy Goodwin 1, Jake Thorpe 1, Mark Jordan 1), Horncastle Town
Reserves 1 (Scott Maplethorpe); Middle Rasen 1 (Dale Kennedy), Ivy Tavern CSA
6 (Darren Walker 2, Rick Robinson 2, John Robinson 1, Darren Chapman). The new season got
under way in bright sunshine with five games played, producing no less than
27 goals. Top of the pile on goals score were newcomers Gainsborough Town
Canute who hit seven in the baptism in this league. Reigning champions Ivy
Tavern were one goal further back with six goals and Metheringham hit five.
The only side that failed to find the net were Fulbeck who had difficulty
finding the net last season, finishing second lowest scorers. For newcomers Gainsborough Town Canute, who had come out
of the Gainsborough League as reigning champions, they hosted RM Imp who had
last seasons top striker Jason Tinkler in their ranks. Tinkler bagged two for
his side but the Gainsborough outfit hit seven with top scorer being Brad
Thomas with 4. Also on target was Danny Martin (2) and Craig Lill (1). One of
three away winners were reigning champions Ivy Tavern who visited last
seasons bottom side Middle Rasen and came away with a 6-1 victory. Four
players shared their goals with Daz Walker and Rick Robinson both getting two
and John Robinson and Darren Chapman one apiece. For Middle Rasen Dale
Kennedy got their consolation goal. Along with ‘Canutes’, Metheringham were
the only other home side to take maximum points. They hosted Horncastle Town
and the points were secured inside half an hour with three goals in five
minutes. Kennie Tant opened the scoring on 27 minutes, Mark Jordan made it
2-0 a minute later and Jake Thorpe made it 3-0 on the half hour. Tant netted
a fourth with seven minutes of the half left before Horncastle pulled a goal
back two minutes later through Scott Maplethorpe. The scoring was completed a
minute into the second half when Guy Goodwin headed home from a corner to
make it 5-1. Of the other two games played, one saw two ‘new’ sides come up
against each other as Clayton Sports took on FC Rustons Sports (previously
Ruston Sports Reserves). Two goals from Dave Curtis and one from Jamie Clough
saw the Rustons outfit bag a 3-1 win with Jake Mann getting Claytons first
goal in this league. The final game was a repeat of last seasons Amateur Cup
final which saw Fulbeck meet Waddington United. On the day Waddington
overcame their nemesis. Both sides were unable to field anything like their
first choice XI. Chances were few and far between with neither keeper forced
into a save but Waddington almost broke the deadlock on 38 minutes when James
Hulse's free kick rattled the Fulbeck bar. The second half saw both sides
create better opportunities. Fulbeck brought some quality blocks from Matty
Waite in the Waddington goal and had shouts for a penalty midway through the
half waved away. The only goal of the game came on 80 minutes when Kieran
O'Boyle fired home Shane O’Boyle’s deep cross. Credit to Fulbeck, however,
who were forced to play more than half the game with 10 men following an
injury.
