FOR EARLIER WEEK TO WEEK SUMMARIES, SEE NEWS REVIEW SECTION APRIL 2012 Saturday April 28: Boston Town concluded
their 2011-2012 UCL campaign with a trio of defeats. The Poachers succumbed
narrowly by 2-1 margins against Peterborough Northern Star (home) and
Wellingborough Town (away on the final day) but also suffered something of a
walloping when going down to a 7-1 loss at Tattershall Road against in-form
Long Buckby, who have duly gone on to lift the Premier Division title. The
sequence of results brought to a close a generally disappointing season for
Town who contested many of their end-of-season matches with a mixture of
senior and reserve team players making up their match-day squads. In the end,
Town ended up with 13 victories, 45 points and a goal difference of minus 11
as they finished in 14th place in the table. Saturday April 21: Boston Town crashed to a heavy home defeat against a side with their sights firmly fixed on the UCL Premier Division title. Visitors Long Buckby romped to a massive 7-1 success at Tattershall Road against a Poachers side comprising numerous reserve string players as the season draws to a close. Tom Ruck scored Town’s consolation goal 12 minutes from time. Boston now have to lick their wounds ahead of their next challenge — another home fixture, against Peterborough Northern Star on Tuesday evening (April 24), kick-off 7.45pm. Saturday April 14: Boston Town slipped to a derby day defeat away to county rivals Deeping Rangers—despite seizing the initiative of a goal by Lorand Borbely inside the opening minute. But the home side fought back after the break to claim maximum UCL Premier Division points by virtue of goals from Ciaron Holt (56 minutes) and Ashley Stevens (75 minutes) — although Poachers’ veteran front man Gary Bull missed the chance of putting town back in from midway through the second period when he failed to convert a penalty. Town’s next challenge looks a demanding one — at home to in-form title contenders Long Buckby on Saturday April 21. Monday April 9: Boston Town ended a barren run
with a fine 3-1 away derby-day success against county neighbours Sleaford
Town. The Poachers bagged maximum Premier Division points on the strength of
goals by Bradie Blankley Lorand Borbely and Gary Bull. Town’s next
encounter sees them on the road yet again when they visit Deeping Rangers on
Saturday. Saturday April 7: Boston Town suffered a second successive away loss in
the United Counties League when they slipped to a 3-2 loss against Daventry
United. The Poachers are currently having to field a somewhat experimental
squad during the run-in to the end of what has been a disappointing campaign.
They will face another tough test on Easter Monday when they travel to face
local rivals Sleaford Town (kick-off 3.00pm). Tuesday April 3: Boston Town crumbled to a
decisive away reverse when they finished on the wrong end of a 5-1 scoreline
at high-flying St Ives. The defeat — the Poachers’ 13th of the UCL season —
leaves them 14th in the Premier Division ahead of their Saturday (April 7)
trip to face Daventry United. MARCH 2012 Saturday March 31: Veteran front man Gary
Bull grabbed his 200th goal in Boston Town colours to be the
Poachers’ match-winning hero in a 1-0 UCL success away success against AFC
Kempston. His 21st minute goal was enough to give Boston their first win in
eight outings and set them up tidily for yet another away trip in their next
game — a Tuesday night trip to face St Ives Town. Saturday March 24: Boston Town ended a
mini-sequence of three straight defeats — but they will be disappointed to
have seen maximum UCL points slip on their travels when opponents Stewarts
and Lloyds netted an equaliser a minute from time to force a 1-1 draw. The
Poachers’ next match is another away one — when they travel to face AFC
Kempston next Saturday (March 31). Tuesday March 20: Boston Town
slipped to a third straight UCL defeat as a somewhat under-strength line-up
tumbled by a 4-1 margin away to Cogenhoe. The result means that the Poachers
have now pocketed just three points out of a possible 18 since emerging
victorious away to Irchester on February 25 and leaves Town 14th
in the table with 41 points from 31 matches. The Poachers will now look to
halt their recent slide in fortunes when they travel to face Stewarts and
Lloyds on Saturday when more Premier Division points will be at stake. Saturday March 17: Boston Town slipped to
a second home defeat in the space of four days when succumbing 2-1 to fellow
mid-tablers Wellingborough. The Poachers conceded goals after 12 and 24
minutes. And that’s the way things stayed until the 79th minute when
Nick Brown got on the scoresheet to halve the deficit. Town’s next match is a
Tuesday (March 20) trip to Cogenhoe. Tuesday March 13: There was no joy for
Boston Town when they entertained county rivals Deeping Rangers in their
latest UCL Premier Division outing. The Poachers succumbed 3-0 on home soil.
Town will aim to put this disappointment behind them on Saturday, although
another tough test looks to be in prospect when they play host to
Wellingborough town. Saturday March 10: Three-in-a-row for Boston
Town! Draws, that is. The Poachers pocketed another useful point as their
end-of-season UCL Premier Division run-in starts to gain momentum. Following
hot on the heels of shared rewards against Newport Pagnell and King’s Lynn,
Town figured in yet another all-square outcome when they fought out a 1-1
draw away to local derby rivals Spalding United. And the match action comes
thick and fast with another “neighbourly” clash due to unfold on Tuesday
evening (March 13) when Deeping Rangers visit Tattershall Road. Tuesday March 6: Boston Town pocketed an
impressive share of the spoils in a replayed UCL Premier Division home
fixture against King’s Lynn. Despite having Craig Parker dismissed in the
second half for two yellow card offences, the Poachers took a 76th
minute lead through Jammal Shahin. Lynn equalised four minutes later via a
Danny Beaumont strike. On Saturday, Town make the short trip to face local
rivals Spalding United when more UCL points will be at stake. Saturday March 3: Boston Town kept an important
clean sheet in their home UCL Premier Division clash against Newport Pagnell.
But it wasn’t enough to secure maximum points as their strike force failed to
penetrate the visitors’ defence and the encounter ended 0-0. The outcome
leaves Town still hovering in mid-table ahead of their next encounter — a
tasty-looking home clash against King’s Lynn on Tuesday (7.45pm), a match
ordered to be replayed by league officials after the Linnets had fielded an
ineligible player in the original meeting, a fixture the Norfolk side won 1-0
but which has now been expunged from the record books. FEBRUARY 2012 Saturday February 25: After several weeks without
a match, Boston Town returned to action in winning style by pocketing maximum
UCL points away to Premier Division rivals Irchester via a tidy 2-0 success.
The Poachers are next in action on Saturday March 3 when they entertain
Newport Pagnell. In addition, Town connections can also plan for an extra
high-profile fixture on Tuesday March 6 in the wake of the UCL Management
committee ordering a replay to the home match originally played on October 25
against King’s Lynn. The visitors won the first encounter 1-0, but fell foul
of eligibility rulings with regard to one of their players. Boston officials
can now look forward to the prospect of another good attendance for the
impending rematch — the first meeting having attracted 271 spectators. Tuesday February 14: Yet again, Boston Town players were left kicking their heels when the club’s scheduled trip to face St Ives was called off due to the legacy of the recent wintry weather — the home club’s pitch being declared unfit despite the onset of rising temperatures. Town now have no match until Saturday February 25 (away to Irchester) due to their scheduled February 18 opponents Peterborough North Star having to play a re-arranged FA Trophy tie on that date. Saturday February 11: The on-going wintry weather has once again left Boston Town without any match action. Their scheduled UCL Premier Division trip to face Cogenhoe fell victim to a frozen pitch. The Poachers now have to wait until Tuesday (February 14) for their next outing when they travel to face St Ives. Tuesday February 7: Boston Town’s scheduled home UCL match against Deeping Rangers was called off due to a frozen playing surface at Tattershall Road. Town’s next fixture is away to Cogenhoe on Saturday — again with Premier Division points at stake. JANUARY 2012 Saturday January 28: Boston Town collected maximum
UCL points when they chalked up a 1-0 home victory over Cogenhoe. The result
sees the Poachers climb to 14th in the Premier Division table
ahead of their next encounter (more than a week away) when they entertain
Deeping Rangers on Tuesday February 7. Saturday January 21: Boston Town were unable
to put a dent in the record of unbeaten UCL Premier Division title-chasers
Long Buckby. The Poachers went down to a 3-0 away defeat, a result that meant
their hosts had negotiated the first 20 league matches of the season having
dropped just four points (two draws). The Poachers will be hoping for better
fortunes when they tackle their next fixture — a home game against Cogenhoe
on Saturday January 28. Saturday January 14: For the second Saturday
in succession, Boston Town were left without UCL Premier Division match
action. Their scheduled home fixture against Wellingborough Town fell victim
to a frozen surface at Tattershall Road. A new date for the clash is now
awaited. In the meantime, the Poachers will be back in action — weather
permitting — on Saturday January 21 when they make the trip to face county
rivals Deeping Rangers. Saturday January 7: Boston Town were left
inactive when their scheduled away UCL Premier Division match at Daventry United
was postponed due to their hosts’ waterlogged pitch. No new date has been
fixed. Meanwhile, the Poachers now look ahead to their next challenge — a
home UCL outing against Wellingborough on Saturday January 14. Monday January 2: Boston Town made a flying start to 2012 by rattling up an impressive 3-0 UCL Premier Division success away to Northampton Spencer. The Poachers will be aiming to keep up the good work under new caretaker boss Phil Jones when they hit the road to play Daventry United on Saturday January 7, kick-off 3.00pm. DECEMBER 2011 Saturday December 31: Boston Town complete a quick-fire festive holiday double over Thrapston when they emerged victorious by a 2-1 margin at Tattershall Road — the result following on from a 3-2 away success against the same opposition a few days earlier. The Poachers travel to face Northampton Spencer in their next UCL Match on Monday, kick-off 3.00pm. Monday December 26: Boston Town succumbed
to a somewhat surprising 1-0 home loss against lowly county rivals Sleaford
Town. The result deprived the Poachers the chance of moving further up the
UCL Premier Division table as the visitors grabbed their first win in 10
outings to bolster their own prospects of avoiding the drop. Boston’s next
match is at home to Thrapston on Saturday December 31. Saturday December 17: Boston Town
— still regrouping after the managerial resignations of boss Martyn Lakin and
his assistant Rob Speechley earlier in the week — managed to pocket maximum
spoils on the UCL travels to Thrapston. The Poachers got the upper hand on
the strength of a 3-2 success, a result which edges them further up the
Premier Division table. The Poachers, under the caretaker leadership of
Lorand Borbely, now look forward to their next encounter — a home UCL derby
against Sleaford Town on Boxing Day. Saturday December 10: Boston Town went down
to their first loss in eight UCL Premier Division outings when in-form St
Ives grabbed their 12th win in their last 13 matches and prised
maximum points from their trip to Tattershall Road in a 3-1 success. The
Poachers’ next match sees them hit the road for a Saturday UCL fixture away
to Thrapston. Saturday December 3: Boston Town fought out
their second home draw inside four days when their UCL Premier Division
fixture against AFC Kempston Rovers ended in a 1-1 scoreline. The Poachers
still sit in the lower mid-table area of the standings and will be looking to
improve their position next Saturday when they play host to St Ives. NOVEMBER 2011 Tuesday November 29: For the third home
match in a row, Boston Town failed to hit the goal trail. But unlike their
previous two outings — defeats in knockout competitions — this time the
Poachers pocketed some sort of reward with a UCL point netted from a 0-0
Premier Division draw against Blackstones. There’s another home league
encounter on the horizon for Town this Saturday (December 3) when they
entertain AFC Kempston Rovers. Saturday November 26: Boston Town had to
stage a battling fightback to pocket maximum UCL Premier Division points
against rock-bottom Desborough Town. The Poachers ultimately claimed maximum
spoils with a 2-1 win, Kieran Davies and Alex Beck being the men on target.
Martyn Lakin’s men now face a midweek home league fixture on Tuesday
(November 26) when county rivals Blackstones visit Tattershall Road (kick-off
7.45pm). Tuesday November 22: For the second time in
four days Boston Town crashed out of a knockout competition on home soil.
This time, local rivals Holbeach United visited Tattershall Road and emerged
victorious when they secured a 2-0 margin of success in their Lincolnshire
Senior Trophy quarter-final tie. The Poachers get back to UCL business on
Saturday and will be confident of pocketing maximum spoils when they visit
out-of-sorts and rock bottom Desborough Town who have so far collected just
five points from 16 games so far. Saturday November 19: Boston Town tumbled off
the FA Vase trail with a disappointing performance that led to a 3-0 home
second round defeat by lower status opposition in the guise of Gornal from
the West Midlands League. It was hardly the build-up Town connections had
wanted to see ahead of their next fixture — a home Lincs Senior Trophy
quarter-final tie against Holbeach united on Tuesday. Tuesday November 15: Boston Town pocketed three more valuable UCL
Premier Division points when they visited lowly rivals Yaxley and returned to
Tattershall Road buoyed by a 3-1 victory. Strike duo Alex Beck (two) and Gary
Bull were the Poachers’ marksmen. Boston now switch their attentions to
knockout business when they play host to Gornall on Saturday in the FA Vase. Saturday November 12: Boston Town made it back-to-back home league victories when they conquered Irchester Town 4-1 at Tattershall Road. The Poachers followed up their 3-0 triumph over Daventry United the previous weekend with a fine all-round team performance — one that inched them up to 16th spot in the table and which should keep spirits high for their next outing, a UCL Premier Division trip to Yaxley on Tuesday. Saturday November 5: Boston Town ended a
barren run of result with an important 3-0 home success, courtesy of three
second half goals, over out-of-sorts Daventry United, for whom the outcome
represented a seventh straight reverse and a continued slide towards the
basement of the UCL Premier Division. Victory, though, lifted the Poachers up
one place to 17th, ahead of their next challenge — a home league
clash against Irchester next Saturday (November 12). OCTOBER 2011 Saturday October 29: Boston Town remained
fourth from bottom in the UCL Premier Division table after a 3-3 home draw
against Stewarts and Lloyds of Corby. The Poachers fought back from conceding
an early goal to lead 3-1 with 20 minutes to go. But the visitors rallied and
earned a point with two late strikes. The Poachers will be at home again in
their next match — against Daventry United on Saturday (November 5). Tuesday October 25: A solitary goal 20
minutes from time condemned Boston Town to their third home league defeat of
the season. They went down 1-0 to promotion-chasing King’s Lynn. The result
left the Poachers in unfamiliar territory close to the bottom of the Premier
Division table with just eight points from 11 matches. Town connections will
now be hoping to start redressing the situation when they entertain Stewarts
and Lloyds on Saturday. Saturday October 22: Boston Town made
progress into the second round of the FA Vase with a fine fightback victory
over Holwell Sports at Tattershall Road. The Poachers trailed to a 16th
minute goal, but rallied well and emerged victorious thanks to two goals by
Alex Beck and one from Tom James. Town’s next fixture is a mouth-watering one
— a home UCL Premier Division clash at home to King’s Lynn on Tuesday
(kick-off 7.45pm). Wednesday October 19: It was drama all the
way as Boston town clinched their place in the second stage of the
Lincolnshire Senior Shield. The Poachers emerged victorious 5-3 on penalties
away to Blackstones in their first round tie after the UCL Premier Division rivals
had fought out a remarkable 4-4 draw to lead to the shoot-out decider. Town
now have to refocus their thoughts towards more knockout business on Saturday
(October 22) when they play host to Holwell Sports in a first round proper
tie. Wednesday October 12: Boston Town suffered
more away match woe when they tumbled to a 3-2 UCL Premier division loss
against county rivals Holbeach. To make matters worse, the Poachers had two
men sent off in the loss — Kieran Davies and Jack Smith receiving their marching
orders. The Poachers have no match on Saturday (October 15) but will next be
in action on Wednesday October 19 when they visit Blackstones for a Lincs FA
Senior Trophy first round tie. Saturday October 8: Boston Town drew a blank for the third match in a row as they slipped further down the UCL Premier Division table. The Poachers battled hard but were ultimately undone by a single strike from the home side who, in the process, climbed to top spot in the standings. The result for Town followed on from defeat by the same margin away to Blackstones on Wednesday October 4. The Poachers now have to look at rediscovering their goal touch when they visit Holbeach on Wednesday (October 12). Saturday October 1: Boston Town had to
settle for just a share of the spoils when they battled out a home goalless
draw against Northampton Spencer. The result left the Poachers still toiling
in the lower half of the UCL Premier Division table in advance of their next
challenge — a trip to face Blackstones on Wednesday when more league points
are at stake. SEPTEMBER 2011 Saturday September 24: A
hat-trick by Alex Beck helped Boston Town to make FA Vase progress.
The Poachers won through to the third qualifying round of the competition by
virtue of a 4-2 home win over Radford. Next up for Town is a UCL Premier
Division home match against Northampton Spencer on Saturday (October 1). Tuesday September 20: Boston Town
crashed to a shock 3-1 home UCL Premier Division reverse against lowly rivals
Yaxley who went into the match lying next to bottom in the table with only
one point to their credit from seven outings. But on the night, it was the
visitors who held sway. The Poachers now have to look to bounce back to form
when they switch their attentions to FA Vase matters on Saturday with a home
second qualifying round tie against Radford. Saturday September 17: Boston
Town succumbed to a surprise home reverse in the first round of the United
Counties League Cup. The Poachers lost out 1-0 to lower status outfit Wootton
Blue Cross. The Poachers will now re-set their sights on Premier Division
issues when they play host to Yaxley on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm). Saturday September 10: Four goals inside the
first 16 minutes laid the platform for Boston Town to make a flying start to
their FA Vase campaign. The Poachers finally ran out decisive 5-1 winners
away to Gedling Miners Welfare. Men on target for the Poachers in their first
qualifying round tie were Tom James, Alex Beck (2), Gary Bull and Shane
Clancy. Tuesday September 6: Boston Town fought back
from a two-goal deficit to salvage a UCL Premier Division point from a 2-2
home draw against local rivals Spalding United. The Poachers’ scorers were
Gary Bull and Alex Beck — the latter’s strike coming in the dying throes.
Town lie in mid-table. On Saturday, the Poachers’ thoughts switch to FA Vase
action when they travel to face Gedling Miners Welfare in a first qualifying
round tie. Saturday September 3: Boston Town tumbled
off the FA Cup trail when they lost 2-1 away to Eastern Counties League side
Heanor Town by a 2-1 margin. The Poachers had taken a 24th minute
lead through Tony James and saw Danny Matson miss a first half penalty. But
in the end, the home side fought back to deliver their KO blow. Town will now
look to regroup ahead of a tasty-looking home UCL Premier Division derby
clash against Spalding United on Tuesday (September 6), kick-off 7.45pm. AUGUST 2011 Saturday August 27: Goals from Danny Matson
and Craig Parker helped Boston Town to maximum UCL Premier Division spoils at
home to Desborough Town. The 2-1 success enabled the Poachers to edge up to
ninth spot in the table. Next up on the competitive agenda for Martyn Lakin’s
men is an FA Cup preliminary round away trip to face Heanor Town on Saturday
(September 3). Tuesday August 23: Two goals
in the final 16 minutes put paid to Boston Town’s hopes of prising any sort
of reward from their trip to face one of the UCL’s title favourites King’s
Lynn. The Poachers put up a terrific fight throughout the encounter and
looked on course to share the spoils until the late home double strike. On
Saturday the Poachers return to Tattershall Road when they will contest more
UCL Premier Division points against Desborough Town. Saturday August 20: Boston Town secured FA
Cup progress on the strength of a 4-2 extra preliminary round away win
against Glossop North End. The Poachers made their long-haul trip to the
Manchester area worthwhile thanks to goals from Tom James (2), Alex Beck and
Gary Bull. Next up for Town is a tough-looking Tuesday night trip (August 23)
to play local rivals King’s Lynn when UCL Premier Division points will be at
stake. Tuesday August 16: There was an
ill-tempered backdrop to Boston Town’s home derby clash with county rivals
Holbeach — a match that saw the Poachers lose 2-1 after having striker Danny
Matson sent off early in the first half. Scorer for Town was Tom James, but
the visitors held sway with their numerical advantage. Boston’s next
challenge sees the focus switched to knockout business when they make the
long trip to face Glossop North End in the extra preliminary round of the FA
Cup on Saturday. Saturday August 13: Boston Town got off to
a flying start to the new UCL Premier Division season with a 3-0 victory away
to Newport Pagnell — a fixture that down the years has traditionally been a
tough test for the Poachers. But two goals from Danny Matson and one by Shane
Clancy ensured the three points came back to Lincolnshire. The result came on
the back of a powerful sequence of pre-season friendly results for the
Tattershall Road outfit: six straight success against Boston United 2-0,
Grimsby Borough 1-0, Skegness United 2-0, Swaffham Town 3-0, Swineshead 9-0
(all at home) plus Pinchbeck 6-2 (away). Town’s next encounter is a home
league match against Holbeach United on Tuesday (August 16, 7.45pm). JULY 2011 Saturday July 16: Boston Town claimed a
notable pre-season friendly scalp when they conquered neighbours Boston
United by a 2-0 margin at Tattershall Road — only the Poachers’ second
success over the Pilgrims in almost 50 years. Alex Beck was the man on target
with gals in the 54th and 90th minutes. The Town team
featured several ex-United players including Chris Wright, Shane Clancy,
Michael Wood, goalscorer Beck and Danny Matson while, in the visitors camp
were ex-Poachers Laim Parker and Liam Ogden. |
