JUNE 2010

Wednesday June 16: Martyn Lakin has taken over as the new manager of Boston Town. He joins the Poachers after a stint with UCL counterparts Bourne Town. The Wakes had toiled at the basement end of the table last term before edging clear of the relegation slots only to be demoted after the season with the club’s facilities failing to meet ground grading criteria.

Wednesday June 9: Boston Town have parted company with long-serving boss Bob Don-Duncan. The 61-year-old is understood to have been asked to asked to leave his managerial position. Don-Duncan had spent 23 years at Tattershall Road after 23 years over two spells in charge — the first stint being as player-manager, starting in the mid-1970s. He then left the club in 1981 before returning in 1993. Since then Don-Duncan has helped to consolidate the Poachers in the United Counties League Premier Division, where they finished fifth last season. Chairman Mick Vines said: "It is the saddest day in my time at the club. Bob and I have been together at the club for a long time and I have the utmost respect for him, not only as manager, but as a very honest person who would only give his best at all times. The club thanks him most sincerely for all the dedication he has put in." Town are expected to name a new boss shortly.

MAY 2010

Monday May 3: The 2009-2010 UCL season ended on a gloomy note for Boston Town as they made the long-haul trek to face Long Buckby and came away on the wrong end of a 5-0 drubbing. The result, though, did nothing to damage the Poachers’ standing in the Premier Division table — they remained fifth in the concluding rankings.

Saturday May 1: Boston Town tumbled to a decisive 3-0 loss away to mid-table Wellingborough who, in the process, completed a UCL Premier Division double over the Poachers.  Boston now have only one match left to complete what has been a chequered season. They travel to face Long Buckby on Monday (May 3), kick-off 3pm.

APRIL 2010

Tuesday April 27: Boston Town saw their recent successful run and string of clean sheets ended when they succumbed 4-2 on the UCL Premier Division travels to Stewarts and Lloyds. Town’s penultimate fixture of a crowded run-in sees them travel to face Wellingborough Town on Saturday (May 1). Their season concludes with yet another away game against Long Buckby on bank holiday Monday (May 3).

Saturday April 24: Boston Town recorded their fifth straight UCL victory (all without conceding a goal) in an overall run of eight unbeaten matches as the Poachers cemented their grip on fifth place in the Premier Division table. The Poachers comfortably disposed of mid-table St Ives in a 3-0 success. The Poachers continue their hectic run-in to the conclusion of the season with a Tuesday (April 27) visit to S & L Corby.

Saturday April 17: Boston Town consolidated their grip on fifth place in the UCL Premier Division with a fourth straight away success (all without conceding a goal) in a powerful end of season run that has now yielded 17 points out of the last 21 available.

Tuesday April 13: Boston Town took their end-of-season unbeaten run-in to six games with a solitary goal success away to fellow high-flyers Stotfold. Gavin Bell’s 20th minute strike proved the deciding factor in a close-fought encounter. Town hit the road again on Saturday when they travel to face Daventry United.

Saturday April 10: Boston Town recorded a second successive 1-0 away victory inside three days when they travelled to basement side Rothwell Corinthians and returned home with maximum UCL Premier Division points on the strength of a solitary Gavin Bell goal. Town are again on the road for their next challenge in a hectic conclusion to the season. They visit Stotfold on Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm).

Wednesday April 7: Boston Town maintained their position in the top six of the UCL Premier Division with a hard-fought victory away to St Ives. A 22nd minute goal from veteran front man Gary Bull settled the contest at Westwood Road. The Poachers are back on the road on Saturday in search of more Premier Division points amid a congested run-in to the end of the season when they visit bottom-of-the-table Rothwell Corinthians.

Monday April 5: Derby honours ended all-square as the all-Lincolnshire clash between Holbeach and Boston Town finished as a competitive 1-1 draw at Carters Park. Laszlo Lovas was the Poachers’ marksman with a second half equaliser. Boston’s next challenge in what is increasingly a hectic run-in to the end of the season comes on Wednesday (April 7) when they hit the road for a fixture away to St Ives.

Saturday April 3: For seemingly the umpteenth time this season Boston Town had their scheduled UCL match called off through the vagaries of the great British weather. The Poachers’ planned visit to Long Buckby was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch — the only UCL match of the day’s programme to be lost. A new date will be arranged. Meanwhile, Boston’s next fixture is trip to face county rivals Holbeach United on bank holiday Monday (April 5), kick-off 3pm.

MARCH 2010

Tuesday March 30: Heavy rain forced the postponement of tonight’s scheduled UCL Premier Division match between Stewarts and Lloyds Corby and Boston Town — leaving the Northamptonshire club’s pitch waterlogged. A new date is now awaited for the fixture. Meanwhile, the Poachers will now focus their attentions on their next action, a trip to face Long Buckby on Saturday (April 3).

Saturday March 27: Boston Town finally brought their recent barren run to a halt when collecting their first victory in seven outings. The Poachers will be hoping to keep up the good work on Tuesday (March 30) when they travel to Northamptonshire for a quick re-match with last midweek’s opponents S & L Corby.

Tuesday March 23: Boston Town’s sequence of matches without a win now stretches to six in total after this home draw against mid-table rivals Stewart and Lloyds of Corby. The Poachers’ marksman was midfielder Laszlo Lovas. The result, though, did at least halt a barren Boston that had seen them beaten in their previous four outings. Boston have yet another home fixture next on their agenda when they entertain Newport Pagnell on Saturday (March 27), kick-off 3.00pm.

Saturday March 20: Boston Town slumped to yet another disappointing result when they succumbed to their third straight 2-1 UCL Premier Division loss. This time it was Wellingborough Town who visited Tattershall Road and claimed maximum spoils. The Poachers have now slipped out of contention in the race for a top four finish, but will aim to start redressing the balance on Tuesday (March 23) when they are at home again, this time to Stewarts and Lloyds of Corby (7.45pm).

Tuesday March 16: There was more gloom and disappointment for Boston town when they succumbed to a poor 2-1 home UCL loss against lowly Yaxley. It was the Poachers’ third competitive defeat in a row in a current run of five matches without a win. The result dealt a further blow to Town’s hopes of a lofty finishing position and Tattershall Road connections will now be anxious to halt the slide when the team turns out for their next game — a home UCL clash with Wellingborough on Saturday (March 20, 3.00pm kick-off).

Saturday March 13: Boston Town turned in a battling performance in their away UCL Premier Division match against red-hot title favourites Daventry Town but unfortunately came out on the wrong end of an agonisingly slender 2-1 defeat against a side that had previously dropped only seven points throughout the season. Boston now have to switch their attentions to the next business on their agenda — a home match against Yaxley on Tuesday (March 16) when more league points will be up for grabs.

Saturday March 6: Boston Town were knocked off the United Counties League Cup trail when succumbing to a 3-1 away loss against mid-table Premier Division rivals Daventry United. The Poachers trailed 3-0 up to the point where Gary Bull netted a late consolation. But it wasn’t enough to avert defeat. Town’s next match is likely to be their toughest assignment of the season to date when they hit the road next Saturday (March 13) to tackle all-conquering Daventry Town who are red hot favourites to lift the championship crown after dropping just six points from their 24 Premier Division outings to date.

Tuesday March 2: Boston Town had to settle for a share of the spoils when they played host to county rivals Bourne in a UCL Premier Division fixture. The sides finished level at 2-2, the Poachers’ goals coming from Gary Bull and Laszlo Lovas. Town’s next match is a UCL Cup encounter away to Daventry United on Saturday (March 6) — a tie postponed twice in recent weeks due to adverse weather conditions.

FEBRUARY 2010

Saturday February 27: Weather woes once again hit Boston Town with their scheduled UCL Premier Division trip to face Stotfold being washed out by the host club’s waterlogged pitch. A new date will now be required for what is looking like a hugely congested fixture list for the remaining weeks of the season. Town have now had nine matches called off since December 19. The Poachers now have to set their sights on trying to prise UCL points from county rivals Bourne when the sides meet in a Premier Division match at Tattershall Road on Tuesday (March 3, kick-off 7.45pm).

Friday February 26: Boston Town will be hoping to get back to action tomorrow when they visit Stotfold in a UCL Premier Division fixture. Over recent weeks, the Poachers have been hampered by repeated postponements due to the interventions of the wintry weather. But they will be hoping for better fortunes as they seek to maintain their lofty status in the table — albeit only a few places above tomorrow’s opposition.

Saturday February 20: For seemingly the umpteenth time this winter, Boston Town were left inactive due to continuing harsh weather. The Poachers’ scheduled UCL Cup trip to face Daventry United was called off due to the host club’s pitch being deemed frozen and unfit for play. No new date has yet been fixed for the tie. Meanwhile, Town eyes will now be fixed on their next challenge — an away Premier Division game against Stotfold next Saturday (February 27) — weather permitting!

Tuesday February 16: Boston Town’s scheduled trip to face St Ives in a UCL Premier Division fixture was called off due to the home club’s pitch being unfit following all the recent wintry weather. No new date has yet been fixed. Town’s next challenge is an away UCL Cup clash against mid-table Daventry United on Saturday (February 20, kick-off 3.00pm).

Saturday February 13: Boston Town suffered a disastrous home loss against foot-of-the-table side Desborough Town. The Poachers were beaten 2-1 at Tattershall Road — the result denting their hopes of at least a top two finish in the UCL Premier Division table. The Poachers found themselves a goal down before Ollie Pinner netted an equaliser. But the visitors pocketed maximum points with another strike to gain revenge for a 3-1 home loss against Boston the previous weekend. Boston’s will now have to regroup in double quick time to prepare for their next challenge, an away Premier Division fixture against St Ives on Tuesday (February 16, kick-off 7.45pm).

Saturday February 6: A first half hat-trick by Jon Rowan propelled Boston Town to three more important United Counties League points — the result bolstering the Poachers’ presence in the lofty reaches of the Premier Division table. However, Bob Don-Duncan’s men had to overcome the shock of conceding a third minute goal to the league’s basement boys when Lee Thomson found the net. However, Boston answered purposefully and effectively wrapped up the points when Rowan struck after 19, 25 and 34 minutes. The sides meet again next Saturday (February 13) in a quick return fixture at Tattershall Road.

JANUARY 2010

Saturday January 30: It was a case of more fixture disappointment for Boston town when their scheduled home UCL Premier Division match against Yaxley fell victim to the weather with the Poachers’ Tattershall Road pitch being deemed unfit due to its part-frozen surface. Town’s next match is away to Desborough Town on Saturday February 6.

Tuesday January 26: Veteran striker Gary Bull settled a closely-fought Lincolnshire derby when Boston town just got the beter of county rivals Holbeach. The Poachers’ front man was on target six minutes before the break to earn his team three more valuable UCL Premier Division points and maintain fourth spot in the table. Town now look forward to another home fixture on Saturday (January 30) when they entertain Yaxley — again with UCL points at stake.

Saturday January 23: Boston Town finally got in some valuable match action when they visited Cogenhoe and emerged 3-1 winners in a UCL Premier Division tussle. It was Town’s first game since December 12 with the intervening five fixtures all called off due to wintry weather.  The result lifted the Poachers up to fourth place in the table ahead of their next scheduled fixture — a home league tussle against mid-table Holbeach on Tuesday evening (January 26, kick-off 7.45pm).

Thursday January 21: Boston Town are looking to put behind them a five-week absence from footballing action when they visit Cogenhoe on Saturday in a UCL Premier Division encounter. Not since December 12 have the Poachers tackled competitive action due to the extended savage wintry spell that claimed a succession of fixtures. Town will be looking to notch up a league double over their hosts having emerged victorious by a 3-2 margin when the sides met in the reverse fixture at Tattershall Road in the early throes of the season.

Saturday January 16: Another weekend, another postponement. Boston Town were again left inactive when the tail-end of the recent wintry conditions forced the call-off of their scheduled UCL Cup tie away to Daventry United. The Poachers have now been without a match since before Christmas and will be hoping that their next action bill goes ahead in the Premier division encounter away to Cogenhoe on Saturday January 23.

Friday January 8: Boston Town’s planned UCL Premier Division match away to table-topping Daventry Town has, unsurprisingly, fallen victim to the “deep freeze” that is currently engulfing the country. The match was called off today (Friday) to avert any unnecessary travelling.

Saturday January 2: For the third week in a row, Boston Town were left without match action as the on-going wintry conditions again played havoc with the fixture list. The Poachers’ scheduled home UCL Premier Division clash with Newport Pagnell was postponed due to the Tattershall Road pitch being frozen. Town will be hoping to get back to action on Saturday January 9 when they are due to visit to high-riding championship favourites Daventry Town.

DECEMBER 2009

Saturday December 26: For the second week in succession, Boston Town’s scheduled UCL Premier Division fixture was postponed. Snow and ice covering the Tattershall Road pitched forced the call-off of the Poachers’ home match against county rivals Holbeach United. No new date has yet been fixed. Town’s next match is a home Premier Division fixture against Newport Pagnell on Saturday January 2 (kick-off 3pm).

Saturday December 19: Boston Town’s scheduled trip to Wellingborough Town was postponed due to the snowy and icy blast that has hit the eastern side of the country over recent days. The United Counties League Premier Division clash was called off 24 hours ahead of kick-off to avert needless travelling. No new date has yet been fixed. The Poachers’ next match is a home Boxing Day (December 26) clash against Holbeach United (kick-off 3pm).

Saturday December 12: Boston Town suffered an unwanted dip in fortunes when they succumbed to a 2-1 home loss against lowly Northampton Spencer. The result leaves the Poachers sixth in the Premier Division of the UCL, some way off the top two positions. Town now have to prepare for a Saturday December 19 trip to face Wellingborough Town in advance of their Boxing Day home tussle against local rivals Holbeach United.

Saturday December 5: Boston Town prised a useful UCL Premier Division point from their trip to face high-riding rivals St Neots. The Poachers shared the spoils in a 2-2 result. Town’s next fixture is a home league encounter against Northampton Spencer on Saturday (December 12).

Tuesday December 1: Boston Town chalked up a fifth successive unbeaten match when they conquered local rivals Deeping by a 3-1 margin, a result that redressed the county balance after defeat away to the same opponents earlier in the campaign. The Poachers face a tough test in their next fixture when they travel to face title-chasing rivals St Neots on Saturday.

NOVEMBER 2009

Saturday November 28: Ollie Pinner was the match-winning hero for Boston Town when he hit the target with what proved the only strike in a 1-0 home UCL Premier Division success over mid-table Daventry United. Victory took Town back up to sixth spot in the table ahead of their next mission — a Tuesday (December 1) home clash against county rivals Deeping Rangers.

Saturday November 21: Boston Town surprisingly dropped valuable UCL points when they were held to a 2-2 home Premier division draw by rock-bottom Raunds Town — a side the Poachers had conquered on away soil the previous weekend. The results leaves Bob Don-Duncan’s men sixth in the table, 13 points behind second placed Daventry Town on level games and a further two points adrift of leaders St Neots, albeit with four matches in hand.

Saturday November 14: Boston Town climbed to fourth place in the UCL Premier Division on the back of a hard-fought 2-1 away victory over basement side Raunds Town. The Poachers sit 11 points adrift of runaway leaders Daventry Town on level games played but more positively have a 10-point deficit to make up on second placed St Neots with the benefit of three matches in hand. The next challenge for Bob Don-Duncan’s is a quick return fixture against Raunds at Tattershall Road next Saturday (November 21, kick-off 3pm).

Tuesday November 10: Boston Town bounced back to winning ways with a fightback UCL triumph away to local rivals Sleaford. The Poachers found themselves a goal down early on, in a match delayed by half-an-hour due to physio Steve Greetham being taken ill before kick-off. In the end, Bob Don-Duncan’s men swept to maximum points on the back of a quick-fire second half three-goal salvo that proved decisive. Goals came from Jon Rowan (2) and Liam Ogden.

Saturday November 7: Boston Town tumbled to a 2-0 home reverse against Long Buckby in their latest UCL Premier Division match. The result saw the Poachers drop to eighth place in the Premier Division table — now 14 points adrift of runaway leaders Daventry Town. Town’s next fixture is a local derby when they travel to face nearby rivals Sleaford town on Tuesday evening (November 10, kick-off 7.45pm).

OCTOBER 2009

Saturday October 31: Boston Town climbed into sixth place in the UCL Premier Division table on the strength of a solid 4-1 away success against Northampton Spencer. The victory, the Poachers’ eighth of the season, saw them close to within seven points of second placed St Neots and with three games in hand.

Tuesday October 27: Boston Town got back to winning ways with a fine derby-night 3-2 win away to county rivals Bourne. The Poachers’ goals in the UCL Premier Division clash came from Paul Goodhand (2) and Jon Rowan. Town’s next fixture is a trip to Northampton Spencer on Saturday (October 31).

Saturday October 24: Boston Town suffered their third UCL Premier Division reverse of the season when tumbling to a solitary goal in their home clash against high-riding rivals Daventry Town whose all-important match-winning strike came just three minutes from time.

Tuesday October 20: Boston Town lost their grip on the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy when, as holders, they bowed out of the competition at the first round stage — surprisingly conceding three goals in the final 10 minutes. It was almost a tale of deja-vu as their Bottesford conquerors had already dumped Boston out of this season’s FA Trophy.

Saturday October 17: Boston Town progressed through to round three of the United Counties League Cup with a tidy 2-0 away success against Division One rivals Wellingborough Whitworths. Town’s next match sees them in Lincs Senior Trophy first round action away to Bottesford town on Tuesday (October 20) followed by a return to Premier Division issues when they entertain high-riding Daventry Town next Saturday (October 24).

Tuesday October 13: Boston Town pocketed three more important UCL points when they registered a 2-0 away victory against county rivals Blackstones. Goals came from Paul Goodhand and Jack Pemberton. The win lifted the Poachers up to fourth place in the Premier Division table, six points behind leaders St Neots but with two games in hand.

Saturday October 10: Boston Town hit top goal-grabbing form when they demolished lowly Rothwell Corinthians 6-1 in a UCL encounter at Tattershall Road. Goals came from Gary Bull (2), Paul Goodhand (2), Liam Ogden and Matt Price. The Poachers’ next challenge is an away Premier Division match against county rivals Blackstones on Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm)

Tuesday October 6: There was a derby night reverse for Boston Town when a single goal margin decided their away UCL Premier Division fixture against county rivals Deeping Rangers. The Poachers went down to a 1-0 loss — sustaining in the process only their second league defeat of the campaign so far to leave them still hovering just above the half-way position in the table. Town’s next match is a home league encounter against Rothwell Corinthians on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Saturday October 3: Boston Town had no fixture today but are already planning for their next mission — an away derby encounter against county rivals Deeping Rangers. Bob Don-Duncan’s men will make the short venture away from Tattershall Road on Tuesday (October 6) for a 7.45pm kick-off when more valuable UCL Premier Division points will be at stake.

SEPTEMBER 2009

Saturday September 26: Boston Town maintained their improvement after a largely forgettable month with an impressive 3-0 victory over Stotfold in a UCL encounter. The result sees the Poachers again climb into the upper reaches of the Premier Division table. Town’s goals (all in the second half) came from Jon Rowan, Paul Goodhand and Matt Price while the visitors were reduced to 10 men just after the hour mark when Callum Donnelly was dismissed.

Friday September 25: Boston Town will be gunning for back-to-back UCL victories tomorrow (Saturday) as they battle to get their Premier Division title charge fully back on track after an indifferent spell across three competitions so far this month. The Poachers entertain a Stotfold side whose league record to date suggests an all-or-nothing approach to action — five wins and four defeats from their nine fixtures thus far. Town go into the match buoyed by their 1-0 midweek away success against Yaxley.

Tuesday September 22: Boston Town put recent poor form behind them to secure a valuable away success against Yaxley. Gary Bull’s 16th minute goal proved enough to tilt the UCL Premier division clash in the Poachers’ favour.

Saturday September 19: Out-of-sorts Boston Town crashed out of the FA Vase at their first involvement in the competition when succumbing 1-0 on home territory to Northern Counties East League rivals Bottesford. The result comes at a time when the Poachers’ fortunes have taken a dip — three losses in different competitions in addition to one draw signalling a sad September spell.

Friday September 18: Boston Town will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of losing out on one glory trail as they embark on another tilt at progress on a national KO front. Tomorrow (Saturday) the Poachers play host to Northern Counties East League outfit Bottesford Town, aiming to recover from the under-par performance in losing out on the FA Cup trail last weekend to UCL rivals Bourne Town. Manager Bob Don-Duncan hopes to have most of his senior squad available for the encounter (kick-off 3pm at Tattershall Road).

Saturday September 12: Boston Town crashed out of the FA Cup to county rivals Bourne Town in a 3-1 away-day first qualifying round reverse. The Poachers had been fancied to pocket the £3,000 prize fund and book their place in the next stage against opponents who have made a faltering start to their league season. However, Bourne proved the stronger on the day.

Friday September 11: Boston Town go in search of more knockout success tomorrow (Saturday) when they visit fellow UCL Premier Division rivals in an FA Cup first qualifying tie, the winners of which will pocket a £3,000 FA prize kitty.

Tuesday September 8: Boston Town and near neighbours Sleaford fought out an eventful 2-2 UCL Premier Division draw at Tattershall Road. The encounter saw the Poachers score first and last via efforts from Gary Bull and Jon Rowan with Sleaford responding with two goals in between, during which time Boston also had to battle with 10 men when winger Laszlo Lovas was sent off.

Saturday September 5: Boston Town crashed to their first defeat of the season when going down 2-0 to pre-season championship favourites St Neots. The Poachers had been hoping to enhance their position among the early UCL Premier Division pace-setters but came unstuck against opponents who now climb above Boston into fourth spot with the Tattershall Road men in sixth place ahead of their next encounter — a tough-looking home derby duel with near neighbours Sleaford town on Tuesday (September 8), kick-off 7.45pm.

Tuesday September 1: Boston Town progressed into the second round of the United Counties League Cup on the strength of an away 2-1 fightback win over county rivals Deeping. Goals from Gary Bull and Paul Goodhand saw the Poachers recovery fully from conceding an early goal. Boston’s next mission will be a return to UCL Premier Division matters when they entertain St Neots on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

AUGUST 2009

Monday August 31: Boston Town go in search of knockout progress on the United Counties League Cup front tomorrow (Tuesday) evening when they travel to face county rivals Deeping Rangers in a first round tie. The Poachers go into the clash fresh from their FA Cup success away to Shirebrook while Deeping are still looking to kick-start their season after three straight league losses sees them in the UCL Premier Division basement zone.

Saturday August 29: Boston Town reached the first qualifying round of the FA Cup on the strength of a solid 2-0 away preliminary round victory against Northern Counties East League outfit Shirebrook. Goals came from Paul Goodhand and Liam Ogden. Town will now be away to UCL rivals Bourne on Saturday September 12, the latter having defeated Goole 3-1.

Friday August 28: Boston Town get back on the knockout glory trail tomorrow (Saturday) when they visit Northern Counties East League side Shirebrook in the preliminary round of the FA Cup. The Poachers qualified for this stage by winning 4-1 at Hinckley Downes while their hosts eased past Holbeach in a 2-1 away replay success after drawing the first encounter 2-2.

Saturday August 22: Stirring fightback qualities enabled Boston Town to claim maximum UCL Premier Division points at the expense of Cogenhoe. The Poachers trailed 2-0 at one stage of the clash at Tattershall Road but then battled back to net a 3-2 victory on the strength of goals by Jermaine Palmer, Gary Bull and Jon Rowan.

Friday August 21: Boston Town get back to UCL Premier Division action tomorrow (Saturday, KO 3pm) when they face a demanding test at Tattershall Road. Bob Don-Duncan’s men face an always-tough Cogenhoe United, the visitors having won both of their Premier Division matches to date.

Sunday August 16: Boston Town cruised their way into the preliminary round of the FA Cup with a decisive victory away to East Midlands Counties side Hinckley Downes. The Poachers never looked in any sort of peril, their goals coming from Gary Bull, Jon Rowan (2) and Jermaine Palmer. Town pocketed £750 in prize money for their victory and now travel to face either Shirebrook of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division or United Counties League rivals Holbeach in the Preliminary Round on August 29. These two sides drew 2-2 on Saturday.

Tuesday August 11: Three goals in seven minutes gave Boston Town a first half platform from which they bagged maximum home UCL Premier Division rewards against county rivals Blackstones. Goals by Laszlo Lovas, Jon Rowan and Mark Foster helped to settle the issue while new strike signing Jermaine Palmer completed the scoring after the break. The Poachers will now turn their attentions to knockout matters when they make a Sunday trip to Hinckley Downes for an FA Cup extra preliminary round tie.

Sunday August 9: Boston Town will host their first home fixture of the new UCL campaign on Tuesday when they entertain county rivals Blackstones (kick-off 7.45pm) when Premier Division points will be at stake. Town will look to build on the point they gained in a 1-1 away draw against Newport Pagnell on Saturday. Blackstones kicked off with a 4-3 loss away to Long Buckby having trailed 4-0 at one stage.

Saturday August 8: Boston Town grabbed a useful away point on the opening day of the new UCL Premier Division season when drawing 1-1 against Newport Pagnell. Matt Stares was the Town hero with a last minute equaliser on his return to the Boston fold after a lengthy absence.

JULY 2009

Saturday July 30: Boston Town undertook a successful programme of pre-season fixtures in readiness for their tilt at honours in the 2009-2010 United Counties League. All told, the Poachers tackled seven games — the initial four on home soil followed by three on their travels. Overall, manager Bob Don-Duncan saw his reshaped squad, complete with a return to the fold of popular midfielder-cum-striker Jon Rowan and the arrival of experienced defender Matt Hocking, witnessed five victories, one draw and just one loss. In addition, a total of 20 goals were scored. The Poachers kicked off with a 3-0 win against Lincoln Moorlands and a 3-1 success against Louth Town followed by a 3-1 home defeat against neighbours Boston United. Then came an emphatic 6-0 triumph over Nettleham before 3-0 and 2-1 victories away to Spalding and Wisbech. The pre-season programme was completed with a 2-2 draw away to Skegness Town. The Poachers begin their UCL campaign on Saturday August 8 with a trip to tackle Newport Pagnell, a side who finished third in the table last term.
