SEPTEMBER 2008

Friday September 5: Unbeaten Boston Town get back on the trail of trying to pocket UCL Premier Division points tomorrow (Saturday) when they hit the road for a fourth successive match. Their destination is St Neots, a side with one win and two losses from their three league outings to date.

AUGUST 2008

Saturday August 30. Boston Town pocketed another £1,500 in prize money by virtue of progressing into the first qualifying round of the FA Cup on the strength of a 4-0 away-day blitz of Eastern Counties club Fakenham. The Poachers were good value for their success and cruised to victory courtesy of goals from Mark Foster, Miles Mason (two) and Laszlo Lovas. Bob Don-Duncan’s men will now hit the road for the third round in a row when they visit Bury Town on September 13.

Friday August 29: Boston Town will chase FA Cup progress tomorrow (Saturday) when they visit Eastern Counties Division One side Fakenham Town in a preliminary round tie. The Poachers have already won through one stage of the competition via a decisive 5-2 triumph away to Long Melford, a club from the same division as tomorrow’s opposition. Victory over Fakenham would give Boston a £1,500 cash bonus from the FA Cup’s allotted round-by-round prize fund to add to the £750 they earned for winning in the extra preliminary round.

Saturday August 23: A last-gasp equaliser by prolific veteran marksman Gary Bull enabled Boston Town to keep up their unbeaten start to the season away to St Ives. Bull struck four minutes into added time in the UCL Premier Division encounter to ensure the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Boston’s next outing will be next Saturday August 30 when they visit Fakenham Town for an FA Cup preliminary round tie.

Thursday August 21: Boston Town will strive to make it four straight victories from the start of the new season on Saturday. But they face a tough test in the guise of a UCL trip to mid-table St Ives. The Poachers, fresh from two Premier Division wins and progress in the FA Cup (netting a total of 12 goals in the process) will aim to bolster their early-term impressive form.

Saturday August 16: Boston Town made first hurdle progress in the FA Cup when over-powering host club Long Melford in an extra preliminary round tie by a 5-2 margin on their travels. Goals from Paul Goodhand, Matt Kennedy, Nathan Iley and Miles Mason (2) secured success. The Poachers now travel to Fakenham on August 30 for a preliminary round tie.

Tuesday August 12: Boston Town made it two wins in a row at the start of the new season when they defeated local rivals Sleaford Town 4-2 under the floodlights at Tattershall Road. Goals came from Mark Foster, Matt Kennedy, Gary Bull and Laim Ogden. The match also saw a debut for goalkeeper Gareth Jones while midfielder Tony Pascu (signed from Boston United) was also involved for a second successive match. Town’s next mission is on Saturday (August 16) when they travel to face Long Melford in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup.

Saturday August 9: Boston Town got off to a winning start in the new UCL Premier Division season when defeating Potton 3-1 at Tattershall Road. Two goals from Matt Kennedy and one from Miles Mason settled the issue in favour of the Poachers whose next match is at home to Sleaford town on Tuesday (August 12), kick-off 7.45pm.

Saturday August 2: Boston Town registered a 1-0 home success against Coalville as their pre-season warm-up campaign drew to a close. The Poachers will now prepare for next Saturday’s (August 9) start of the UCL season when they entertain Potton United in a Premier Division fixture, kick-off 3pm.

JULY 2008

Tuesday July 29: All good things come to an end at some point, so the saying goes. And Boston Town saw their promising pre-season campaign blitzed when King’s Lynn (newly promoted to the Blue Square North Division) visited Tattershall Road and chalked up a decisive 7-2 victory over a somewhat under-strength Poachers’ outfit. Town’s final warm-up match before the 2008-2009 United Counties League fixtures begin is on Saturday August 2 against Coalville.

Saturday July 26: Boston Town maintained their solid pre-season results sequence with a 3-0 home success against Holwell Sports. The Poachers’ goals were netted by new signing Mike Jeffrey, Gary Nimmo and Gary Bull.

Monday July 21: A late Gary Nimmo goal gave Boston Town a 3-2 home success against Rothwell Town in their fourth build-up match of the summer. Boston went ahead through new signing Miles Mason but Rothwell levelled before the break. Paul Goodhand restored the lead from the penalty spot but the visitors hit back once again before Nimmo’s late effort settled the issue.

Saturday July 19: Despite a stirring second half fightback, Boston Town went down 2-1 at home to Wisbech in their latest pre-season warm-up game. The Poachers trailed 2-0 at the break but dominated the second 45 minutes. However, they only had a Gary Bull goal to show for their efforts despite exerting lots of pressure.

Wednesday July 16: Boston Town’s second pre-season warm-up match ended in a 2-2 draw when Godmanchester visited Tattershall Road with strikes by Gary Nimmo and Mark Foster — the Poachers having led 2-0 at one stage before the visitors fought back.

Monday July 14: Boston Town began their pre-season programme in positive fashion — by fighting back from an early deficit to crush a youthful Lincoln City XI 5-1 at Tattershall Road. Gary Bull scored twice. The other goals came from Paul Goodhand, Matt Kennedy and Liam Ogden.

Monday July 7: Boston Town boss Bob Don-Duncan has made some significant moves to strengthen his squad in advance of the new UCL Premier Division campaign. He has signed a clutch of new players. Leading the way on the recruiting front has been the capture of striker Miles Mason (25), a player with a proven scoring pedigree, notably when bagging in excess of 25 goals for Bourne in 2006-2007. Elsewhere, 19-year-old striker Lewis Blakey and midfielder Mike Jeffrey have also bolster the Town squad. Blakey was Louth United's top scorer last season with 16 goals after joining from Grimsby Town Academy. Jeffrey is a senior aircraftsman in the RAF, based at Marham in Norfolk. Meanwhile, the Poachers have lost the services of versatile defender Neal Spafford who has signed for Blue Square North club Gainsborough Trinity while midfielder Mo Medine looks like starting the season at Tattershall Road but had outlined plans to move to Northampton to undertake further studies and in the process the likelihood will be a move to a club closer to his proposed new home.

Tuesday July 1: Boston Town have learned their fate in the opening stages of the UCL Cup and the FA Cup. The Poachers will be on their travels in the second round of the UCL Cup when they face the winners of the round one tie between Deeping Rangers and Sileby Rangers on a date yet to be fixed. On the FA Cup front, Town will enter the fray at the extra preliminary rounds stage with a trip to Long Melford on Saturday August 16. The winners of that game will then be away to Gorleston or Fakenham Town on August 30 in the preliminary round.
