Boston Standard Premier Division This week’s action saw two players register their first
wins of the season! Debra Royal was first to taste success in a win over Kev
“Grinder” Lenton. Kev could only
manage a 180 and very little else as he was unable to avert a 4-1 defeat.
Deb’s win was achieved in style as she ended the match scoring 140, 100, 100,
125 and 36 (out) for a 14-dart leg. The win moved her off the bottom of the
table. Trev Day also registered his first success. Up against
Chris “Joker” Royal, Trev found himself 2-1 down. But a 180 in 21 darts
restored parity. The following legs were shared until Trev found double one
in the decider to snatch a 4-3 win. A
cracking encounter followed as “Big-Guns” Martyn Palmer and Graham “One-Dart”
Sharp clashed. Although the match went the distance, it was a high quality
encounter spoiled only by missed doubles. Martyn produced a 17-dart leg to
take the crucial decider to remain unbeaten after five. Another player heading up the table is Bob Mountain. His
fifth straight win came against Chris Kerbal as the latter still struggles to
find the doubles when the opportunity arises. This resulted in Bob gaining a
4-1 win. Shane Richardson was next to
the oche against Tony Hillyard. Here it was Shane who got off to a flying
start by racing in to a 3-0 lead. But missed doubles in leg four turned the
game on its head as Tony fought back to level at 3-3. It was Shane, however,
who halted Tony’s “Houdini” act with a 74 checkout in the deciding leg. Colin “Hit-Man” Hewson took a 1-0 lead against Richard
Pearson but he became “Miss-Man” at the doubles in the next three legs as he
trailed 3-1. A 130 checkout on the bull in 15 darts signalled a fightback and
by the time the decider was reached, Colin was back on form. A 180 in the
decider swung the game his way. It was a top of the table encounter next as Dave Hasnip
and Ady Parker clashed. Dave was desperate to hang on to his unbeaten pole
position but Ady had other ideas. The game was very close with the first four
legs evenly matched. Ady was more consistent at scoring and finishing and
this resulted in a 4-2 win to him with a 23.41 average (top in the division)
to inflict Dave’s first defeat. The final game
of the night saw Shane Richardson and Trev Day back at the oche. And it was
Shane who concluded a good night’s work, the highlight being a 180 in a 17-dart
leg as Shane wrapped up a 4-1 victory. Lincs Racing Championship The top encounter in the division saw two unbeaten
players go head to head as Darren Butler and Dan Martin clashed. Dan got off
to a flying start as a 19-dart leg secured the lead. Darren hit back to draw
level but missed doubles in leg three allowed Dan to retake the lead. Both players rattled in some quick-fire
darts in an attempt to remain unbeaten and it was Darren who took the match
to a decider, eventually taking a 3-2 win with a 19.76 average (top in the
division) with both players looking like front runners for promotion. Rob Birtwhistle slipped off the top as he went down 3-2
to lowly Ben Carr. A 180 from Ben helped cause a shock result, one that Rob
can ill afford if he wishes back-to-back promotions! Dick Taylor always starts his games well.
Once again he went 1-0 up against Rick Woods but “Top-Pocket” was unable to
sustain the gallop and Rick pegged him back before going on to win 3-1. Two players having yo-yo starts to this season are
Redvers Dickinson and Pedro Silva. Neither seem able to put back-to-back wins
together. However, Redvers came away the happier. His 17.89 average helped
him to a 3-0 win. Adie Blackham and Pete Johnson shared a five-leg encounter.
Adie produced a higher dart average but the win went to Pete by a 3-2 score
line. Five leg encounters seemed to be the norm for the night
when Mick Parker and Nathan Richardson went the distance, Mick having clawed
his way back from 2-0 down to 2-2. But he was unable to stave off
defeat. Dan Martin was quickly back
to winning ways. A 111 checkout helped him, albeit narrowly, to gain a 3-2
win over Ben Carr. It kept him just one point off front-runner Darren Butler
who completed a double on the night with a 3-2 win over Nathan
Richardson. The final game in the
division saw Mick Vinters continue his good start to remain in the top three
after a 3-1 win over Kev Dickinson was achieved. John
Smith’s Challenge League The “Dark Destroyer” tops the division after making it
six wins in a row! Dennis Turner is yet to drop a leg he took all the
accolades on Friday when recording a 3-0 win over Don Holmes. This included
the highest checkout and average as 60 and 16.33 were recorded respectively. Paul Limb has hit the league’s first 180 — a fact that
will not impress as he would, no doubt, prefer to find a double as this
continues to cost him victories. Once again, it resulted in defeat as he went
down 2-1 to the unbeaten James Harmer, but more embarrassingly by the same
scoreline to Tracey Richardson! Sharon Butler continues to impress and a big pay-day
could come her way. The leading lady produced a 3-0 win over Di Jenkins to
move into second position. Angie Upsall is just outside the top five after
she was made to work hard to overcome a much improved Louise Charambou by a
2-1 scoreline. George Harness continues to impress. The 90-year-old is still
able to throw some good arrows. A 3-0 win over Susan Games takes George in to
fourth place. Almost (but not quite) the record for most darts came under
threat once again! In the next game surprisingly Tracey Richardson beat Adam
Kemp 3-0, although it took her 236 darts to do so with the game only falling
short by 20 darts to smash the record once again! Carla Slade’s return to action saw her record her first
win. Already 2-0 up against Tina Willicombe, it was the latter who plugged on
to take a consolation. Holidays and fishing resulted in a lack of form for
Suzie Watson. This resulted in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Christine Holmes
in the night’s final game. |

Boston Standard Premier Division After a three-week absence, Harry “Lottery” Lee got the
action under way this week. But the break seemed to go against Harry. His new
“Lee Van Cleef” image failed to stop him hitting the scores usually found on
a lottery ticket against Trev Day.
Trev gifted Harry the opening leg as missed doubles allowed Harry to
pull back a 200 deficit to go 1-0 up. The match then developed into a dour
encounter, resulting in proceedings going the full distance. Both players
managed the highlight of a 17-dart leg while Trev also scored a maximum 180
to shine just a little brighter! It
was Harry, however, who shot Trev down and take the match by a 4-3
scoreline. This game was followed by a high class seven-leg
encounter between Ady “Missile” Parker and Graham “One-Dart” Sharp. The
latter got off to a flying start hitting 41, 76, 180, 180 and 24 (out) for a
1-0 lead in just 14 darts. Nineteen
darts later he was 2-0 up, but Ady got his arrows on target to take the next
two legs to draw level. Graham went back in front with an 18-dart leg. But
“One-Dart” then let doubles slip away as Ady took his chances to claim a
famous 4-3 victory this despite Graham scoring three maximums in the game and
recording the division’s highest average of 25.81 to Ady’s 24.37. Dave Hasnip moved four points clear at the top of the
table after recording his fifth straight win. His victim this week was
Deborah Royal who still finds herself at the opposite end of the table
without a win after Dave recorded a comfortable 4-2 success. One player recording
his first win of the season was Shane Richardson. Up against Kev “Grinder”
Lenton, neither player found any sparkling form in the six legs of darts. But
Shane was still delighted to record a 4-2 win. Trev Day returned to the oche with a point to prove
after his earlier misery, this time up against Colin “Hit-Man” Hewson. The
latter took a 1-0 lead in 19 darts, leaving Trev way back on 230. Trev,
though, rallied and almost hit a 132 checkout to draw level. But as Colin
failed at his double, Trev got a second chance to draw level. Colin regained
the lead with a 180 in 18 darts to go 2-1 up. But to Trev’s credit, a superb
144 checkout (highest in the division) put him back in contention at 2-2. The
game moved on to reach a decider and it was “The Hit-Man” who powered through
to win 4-3. Tony Hillyard had legs of brilliance against Chris
“Joker” Royal. But in between he had some terrible legs as well! Tony hit
140, 140, 83, 78 and 50 (out) for a 15-dart opening leg. And he also hit a
101 checkout in leg five. But in between it was Chris who capitalised. And by
the time the game concluded it was Chris who had turned the match around to
take a 4-3 win. The final game saw Harry Lee return to out-shoot Derek
Johnson, with both players on target score-wise. Harry found some clinical
finishing at the right time to out gun Derek and inflict a 4-1 defeat. Lincs Racing Championship Rob Birtwhistle clung on to the lead at the top of the division
after he recorded a hard-fought and narrow 3-2 win over Nathan
Richardson. Darren Butler remains in
hot pursuit after another night of honours following the previous week’s top
performance. A 72 checkout with a 23.12 average (both top on the night) gave
him a 3-0 win over Dick “Top-Pocket” Taylor.
Kev Dickinson broke his duck as he put one over “Uncle”
Redvers Dickinson, a 3-1 win spoiling Redvers’ good start. Daley Richardson
played leap-frog on Pedro Silva as a 3-1 victory took him up to fifth spot —
dropping his opponent down to ninth. Pete Johnson continues to have a topsy-turvy season. A
3-0 defeat at the hands of the unbeaten Dan Martin was compensated for later
after a 3-0 win over an out-of-sorts Mick Parker. Rob Scrupps put up a sobering performance this week as he raced
to a 3-0 victory over Adie Blackham with the latter once again unable to take
his chances at a double. Peter “Fat-Controller” Reid got back to winning ways as
he recorded a 3-1 success over high-flying Mick Flynn. The final game saw
Mick Vinters secure a 3-0 win over Rick Woods. Here more clinical finishing
put the game to bed and this has seen the victor climb the table in recent
weeks to share the lead. Meanwhile, Rick continues to slip from his early
pole position, now down to 11th. John
Smith’s Challenge League It was a good night for Dennis Turner. After being
awarded a 3-0 win over Christine Holmes in the committee room, he followed
that up with a 3-0 victory over title rival Sharon Butler in a game that saw
both players put their unbeaten start on the line. This was the opposite case
in the next game with both players struggling for a win as Emma Grant and Di
Jenkins toed the oche. The result was an easy 3-0 win for Di, giving her a
stylish first success of the season. Tina Willicombe and Adam Kemp played three tight legs of
darts with Adam scraping a 2-1 win. This was not the case in the next game as
the most darts used record fell for the fourth consecutive week (despite the
lack of accurate figures due to a shortage of paper!) The game between Tracey Richardson and Susan Games
managed to beat the 388 dart record set last week, with a massive 435 darts
thrown (surely this will not be beaten!) Susan will remember her first win of
the season as her 106th dart in the last leg found the double to
secure her a 2-1 win! A new set of darts did the trick for Scott Lea. In his
game with George Harness, both players were defending 100 percent starts. But
Scott found the doubles to stun George by taking a 3-0 win. Angie Upsall
slipped out of the top five after she went down 2-1 to Paul Limb. She is
replaced by Sharon Butler who quickly got back to winning ways by recording a
3-0 win over Christine Holmes. It’s a result that sees her flying the flag
for the ladies in fourth position. Janine Timms scored well, but her miserable run of
fortune on the doubles proved decisive again this week. In an all-lady
encounter she managed to find one double to record her first point in a 2-1
defeat against Tracey Richardson. And in game two she failed to take any of
her chances against Richard Attwell. This resulted in a 3-0 win for Richard
that, in truth, should have been the other way. The final game of the night saw a clash between the
Holmes family. After losing points earlier in the committee room, Christine
was pleased to at least get two back by virtue of a win over hubby Don by a
2-1 score line to show who’s ruling the roost! |

Boston Standard Premier Division
There
wasn’t much action in the top section this week. But what little there was
saw two players complete a double on the night allowing them to make it a
three-way tie at the top. First
to the oche was Martyn Palmer, taking on the unbeaten Ady Parker. Martyn hit
two 140s in the opening leg to take an early advantage. Another 140 followed
in leg two as Martyn outscored Ady to go into a 2-0 lead. Ady hit back by taking leg three after
Martyn had missed nine darts at a double!
Ady seemed unable to capitalise on Martyn’s inconsistent form as he
also failed to hit big scores back to back. Martyn held a 2-1 lead and a 180
put him in control as he went 3-1 up. And despite busting on 65 (by hitting
the bull) in leg five, his next attempt succeeded to give him a 4-1 win with
a 24.04 average. Bob
Mountain and Chris Royal were next. This game started well for Chris. Despite
missing bull for a 161 checkout in the opening leg, he held on to take a 1-0
lead. Leg two also saw Chris attempt another big checkout, this time a 170
was narrowly missed on the bull. But here he failed to get another chance as
Bob drew level. This seemed to dent Chris’ confidence and despite reaching an
outshot in the next three legs, it was Bob who hit all the doubles to
register a 4-1 win. Martyn
Palmer swiftly returned to the oche to face Shane Richardson. The latter hit
a superb 118 checkout to go 1-0 up. But once again consistent scoring and
clinical finishing turned around the game as Martyn took four legs in a row
to win. Kev Lenton
and Chris Kerbal were next to the oche with Chris still in search of his
first win. The opening three legs saw both players miss early chances at the
doubles as Chris unluckily found himself 3-0 down. Kev killed off the game
with the best leg of the match when he hit scores of 43, 100, 22, 180, 140
and 16 (out) for a match-winning 16-dart leg. Dave
Hasnip moved to a share of the lead with Martyn Palmer after his encounter
with Shane Richardson. Dave went 1-0 up with a 90 checkout, but Shane hit
back with an 85 checkout to draw level. Dave responded by hitting 100, 62,
140, 137, 22 and 40 (out) to regain the lead in 16 darts. Despite Shane
having chances to get back in the match, it was Dave who went on to secure a
4-1 win. The final game
in the division saw Bob Mountain looking to pick up maximum points on the
night to make it a three-way tie at the top. He was up against Colin
“Hit-Man” Hewson. A tight game followed as both players scored heavily. The
deciding factor, however, was Bob’s crisp finishing as the “Hit-Man” once
again became “Miss-Man.” Bob hit 39, 93, 32 and 77 checkouts with his
opponent sat on a double every time. This gave Bob a 4-1 victory with the
division’s best average in the process when recording 24.33 to Colin’s 23.53
in defeat. Lincs Racing Championship This
division looks like being the tightest of them all. With just two points
separating first from 10th positions it was Darren Butler who got the action
off to a flying start against Ben Carr. Darren rattled in a 120 checkout in
21 darts to take a 1-0 lead. Nineteen darts later he was 2-0 up before an
excellent third leg followed. Here Darren scored 140, 125, 140, 40 and 56
(out) to take a 3-0 win in just 14 darts. It gave him a superb 27.83 average
— a possible front-runner for the season’s best performance. Another
ace playing well is Dan Martin. Up against Nathan Richardson, three swift
legs followed as Dan secured victory with a 100 checkout and a 21.78 average.
Rob
Birtwhistle continues to punch above his weight. Last year’s fourth best
found him self promoted. But he seems up to the task. A 3-0 victory over Pete
Johnson was enough to see him go to the top of the division. A
miserable night then continued for Pete when he met Nathan Richardson. The
latter recorded his first win of the campaign. A 12.63 average was easily
enough to obtain a 3-1 win. Last
week’s leader Rick Woods was felled this week as Redvers Dickinson brought
Rick’s leading run to an end with a 3-1 victory. Mick Flynn followed against Ady Blackham. The match stats show
averages of 16.80 and 17.00 for a tight game that went Mick’s way by a virtue
of a 3-1 scoreline. High
flying Pete “Fat-Controller” Reid was left well behind at the station as
Pedro Silva inflicted Pete’s first defeat with an emphatic 3-0 win. It has taken four games for the unlucky
Daley Richardson to break his duck and record his first win. The unlucky
loser in recent weeks for once found the doubles to this time record a 3-1
victory over Kev Dickinson. By the
time Mick Parker and Rob Scrupps approached the oche, both had spent a long
time at the bar. They also produced the longest game of the night as both
players needed all five legs to find a winner, as it was Rob who was left standing
as he staggered home with the 3-2 win. The last game
in a rather late night saw Mick Vinters and Dick “Top-Pocket” Taylor clash.
Dick hit a 180 in the match but the win was more elusive as Mick gained a 3-1
success to propel himself up the table and into a share of the lead. John
Smith’s Challenge League This
league continues to be something of a challenge to most! After having the record broken for the
most darts thrown in a match in the past two weeks (as first 307 fell, then
315 fell), and now a new record has been set. A massive 388 darts were thrown
as Susan Games and Tina Willicombe entertained the crowd to smash the record
by 63 darts as Tina gained a 2-1 win.
Emma
Grant’s winning run swiftly came to an end. She went down 2-1 to Sharon Butler
as the latter continues her impressive start, winning four out of four.
Another unbeaten player is James Harmer. He tops the table after recording a
3-0 victory over Susan Games. James is hotly pursued by George Harness after
he gained a 3-0 win over Louise Charambou.
Richard
Attwell put last week’s humiliation behind him as he hit the division’s
highest average of 13.31 to record a narrow 2-1 success over Di Jenkins. Scott Lea had to work hard to overcome
newcomer Tracy Richardson as he gained a narrow 2-1 win. But Tracy was quick
to settle in as match number two netted her a 3-0 win with a 71 checkout
(division’s highest) over Louise Charambou.
Angie
Upsall shares fifth spot and is leading lady after she gained a 3-0 win over
Janine Timms as Janine continues to fail at the doubles. The final game saw Susie Watson record her
first win of the season. It came at the expense of Adam Kemp. With the game tied at 1-1, Susie was
relieved that her 14th dart at a double decided to go in, giving
her a 2-1 win. Committee
meeting The first committee meeting of the season takes place on
Friday September 22 at 6.45pm when all members are asked to attend. |

Boston Standard Premier Division
There is a new leader following Friday night’s action in
the Boston Standard Premier Division as Derek Johnson takes over at this
early stage via picking up maximum points from two games on the night. His first opponent, Trev Day, already
looks like this season’s whipping boy!
Derek had little trouble recording a 4-1 win. Trev only picked up a
consolation point when Derek missed his doubles allowing the former to check
out on 70 at the second attempt (having bust the first time!) Derek then went on to beat Richard Pearson
in game number two, the highlight being a 100 checkout in 24 darts as he
raced to a 4-0 victory. Another struggler this season is Debra Royal. She faced
an in-form Martyn Palmer who swiftly took a 1-0 lead by scoring 140, 101,
180, 40 and 40 (out) for an impressive 14-dart opening salvo. He continued his impressive start to race
in to a 3-0 lead before Deb gained some consolation by taking leg four. This
was just a minor blip as Martyn sealed the win in leg five via scoring 100,
60, 60, 100, 97 and 84 (out) to register the night’s top average of
25.24. Graham Sharp looks in good form. Facing two games, he
warmed up nicely against Shane Richardson when hitting 180 in a 4-1 win. This
brought about an improved performance from Graham in game two against Chris
Kerbal. A 4-0 win was achieved as yet another 180 followed in this match
including a 116 checkout (the division’s highest) giving him a 24.74
average. Colin “Hit-Man” Hewson notched his first win in
impressive style. He looked something like his previous best up against Tony
Hillyard and raced in to a 3-0 lead by hitting consecutive 19-dart legs. Tony
stopped the rot in leg four when hitting a 79 checkout at the third time of
asking, having bust previously. But Colin secured a 4-1 win when taking the
next leg. Dave Hasnip and Chris Kerbal were next to the oche. This
game was all about missed doubles. Although Dave ran out a 4-1 winner, both
players had numerous chances in a game that could have gone either way. The final game of the evening was probably the worst on
the night in this division as Chris “Joker” Royal and Kev “Grinder” Lenton
fought out a dour battle! Neither
player was impressed with their form, although “the Joker” was at least
smiling after taking the match 4-1. Lincs Racing Championship Rick Woods has reached the top of this division having
spent most of last season at the opposite end of the table. A 3-2 victory
over Daley Richardson was set up by a 94 checkout in leg one and ended by a 68
checkout in leg five. In between Daley played well to give himself the
night’s highest average of 20.25. But the win went to Rick. Rob Scrupps was next to the oche against new boy Dan
Martin. Dan scuppered Rob to remain unbeaten after recording a 3-1 victory.
Dick “Top-Pocket” Taylor was not at his best in his opening game against
Redvers Dickinson as he crashed to a 3-1 defeat. But up against the unlucky
Daley Richardson later in the evening, Dick gained his first win of the
season as he scraped a narrow 3-2 victory leaving Daley still searching for
his first win. The previously elusive Nathan Richardson finally made
his debut up against Ben Carr. He took a 1-0 lead and from that point,
however, the doubles were also elusive. This allowed Ben to take three legs
without reply to record his first win.
A tight five-leg encounter followed as Darren Butler and
Mick Vinters clashed. The match stats showed 18.56 and 17.92 averages but the
win went to Darren as he maintained an unbeaten start to win 3-2. Rob Scrupps’ miserable night continued as
he faced newly promoted Rob Birtwhistle — the latter continuing to punch
above his weight! A 3-0 victory sees
him soar up in to a share of second place at this early stage. Another five-leg encounter then took place as Pedro
Silva and Adie Blackham featured. There was little to choose between either
player but Adie found crisper finishing to come back from 2-1 down with 57
and 46 checkouts to grab a 3-2 win. The final game in the division saw Mick Parker throw away the first two legs in his game with Mick Flynn as he gifted him a 2-0 lead to his rival with numerous doubles going astray. The consequences were that when the latter did get his game together a 3-0 win became a fortuitous conclusion. John
Smith’s Challenge League It’s been a long time since Emma Grant registered a win
in this division — a fact that her opponent Richard Attwell will have to live
with for the next couple of weeks.
The embarrassing moment came in leg three with the score tied at 1-1
and when Emma required six to win.
Her first dart barely clung to the outside of the board, the second
found the floor (what a marker!) But the last flew in to give Emma a 2-1 win
over a stunned Richard. Dennis Turner sits on top of the table with a hat-trick
of wins. His 100 percent winning record was enhanced by another 3-0 win, this
time over Susie Watson. He is joined
by young James Harmer. Making his debut this season, he matched the form of
Dennis as he recorded 3-0 victories over Janine Timms and Di Jenkins. In the
latter game he recorded the division’s best average of 17.47 for the
night. Scott Lea is also up there with the front runners,
although Tina Willicombe should have possibly taken the first leg off him.
But there was no doubting his class as he sealed a 3-0 victory with a 102
checkout. George Harness is also a front runner again this year.
He was far too consistent for the inexperienced Janine Timms, making her
debut. This allowed George to make it three wins in succession, this time by
a 3-0 margin with a 15.98 average. Each week a new record seems to be set for the number of
darts used in a match! The new holders are Angie Upsall and Di Jenkins. Some
315 darts were thrown in this match, smashing the previous record by eight darts. Amazingly the game was won 3-0 by Angie
Upsall. But the scoreline could have been reversed as both failed to take
initial chances. Sharon Butler is serving it up being the leading lady
contender in fifth position. A 3-0 win over Louise Charambou has given her a
dream 100 percent start. The final game saw Don Holmes conclude the night’s
action with a 3-0 win over Adam Kemp. But like many of the games previously
in the night, doubles missed caused a one-sided outcome. |

Round-up
for week ending September 1, 2006 |

Boston Standard Premier Division
Bob Mountain got his campaign under way on Friday night
when facing, on paper, two tricky games. He showed a dramatic improvement in
last seasons form to gain two impressive victories. He started up against Harry “Lottery” Lee. The first four legs
were shared as Harry produced a 102 checkout in leg four to draw level. But
Bob took the game up another level and went on to hit two 21-dart legs to secure
a 4-2 victory over an inconsistent Harry.
In his second game later in the evening up against Derek Johnson, a
hard-fought seven-leg encounter unfolded with both players constantly
recording three figure scores. Bob found himself 3-1 up only to miss doubles
and allow Derek to fight back and force the decider. Fortunately for Bob,
another 20-dart leg saved the day giving him maximum points from his two
games and a share of the lead in the table at this early stage. Another early front-runner is Ady “Missile” Parker. His
26.36 average was good enough to secure a 4-0 victory over Debra Royal who
was making her first appearance of the season. Although Deb managed a 180 it
failed to halt a runway win for Ady. The final game in a curtailed top section action agenda
saw another seven-leg encounter between Chris “Joker” Royal and Dave Hasnip.
Unbelievably Chris found himself 3-1 in front before he came unstuck, and an
18-dart leg from Dave reduced the deficit. But Chris failed to take his
golden chance in leg six. Needing 205, Chris hit 140 to leave 65 but he
failed with three darts to kill the game off and this allowed Dave — who at
the time needed 258 — to score 100, 134, and 24 out to force an unexpected
decider. Chris once again looked favourite to open his account. Needing 196
in the decider, a score of 140 left him with 56. But once again three darts
failed to find a winning double, allowing Dave to nick it with a 68 checkout! Lincs Racing Championship
Redvers Dickinson and Mick Vinters got the action under way.
This game was a hard-fought five-leg encounter with both players registering
top performances that set the standard for the night and were not
beaten! Mick found himself 1-0 down
having had the darts. But a 116 checkout in leg two against the darts restored
parity! Mick went on to take leg
three to go in front for the first time, but Redvers hit back with two
23-dart legs to grab a 3-2 win, hitting the division’s top average in the
process when recording 22.00. Pete Johnson, making his debut for the season, fell a
long way short. But his 12.84 average was still enough to secure a 3-0 win
over Ben Carr as both players ruined their averages with numerous darts at
the double. New boy Pete “Fat-Controller” Reid finds himself at the
top of the table at this early stage. A 106 checkout was the highlight in a
hard match against Rick Woods. The narrow 3-2 win moved Pete to the top — and
unbeaten thus far! Adie Blackham registered his first success of the
campaign as he recorded a 3-1 victory over Kev Dickinson. It was not a good
start for Kev as he also went down 3-1 to Mick Parker. The latter’s joy of
winning, however, was short lived. Despite taking a 1-0 lead against Pedro
Silva, he could not manage to find another double and Pedro hit back with 16 and
54 checkouts to go in front at 2-1. Mick did find that elusive double to draw
level, but a 114 checkout secured a 3-2 win for Pedro — in the process
halting Mick’s double aspirations! John
Smith’s Challenge League A hectic night of action prevailed in this section with
several players still finding their feet. One player who still looks very
wobbly is Carla “Bambi” Slade. A disastrous night for her not only saw her
tumble to a 3-0 defeat. Christine Holmes who recorded her first 3-0 win in
two years of competition inflicted the humiliation. Sharon Butler also served up a shock result. Trailing
1-0 to Richard Attwell, she sprang a surprise taking the next two legs to
record a 2-1 win, registering the division’s top average of 15.01. Don Holmes made it a good night for the Holmes household
as he hit an 83 checkout on his way to a 3-0 victory over Susan Games. Denis “Dark-Horse” Turner’s early form is good, a 3-0
win over Adam Kemp has moved him to the top of the table at this early
stage. Susie Watson got her campaign
under way with two games on the night, although she suffered two defeats
there was little to chose between her and her opponents. She started up against newcomer Louise Charambou (making
her first appearance). Louise took a 1-0 lead only for Susie to hit back and
draw level with a 49 checkout, but a marathon third leg went to Louise to
secure her first win. Game two saw Scott “Banger” Lea take a 2-0 lead over
Susie but the latter stuck to the task well and took the third and final leg
for small consolation! A marathon encounter followed as newcomers Tina
Willicombe and Louise Charambou clashed. It took 307 darts to find a winner —
a new and unwanted record for the division, and an honour neither girl would
want. The result, however, saw Tina scrape a narrow 2-1 win, denting Louise’s
double hopes on the night. The final action on the night saw Angie Upsall and Emma
Grant clash. This game also took a while to complete, the winner though was
found easily enough as Angie had secured the first two legs to lead 2-0. But
Emma plugged away and with the 286th dart of the match, double two was found,
securing a consolation point in the process. |
