Round-up for week ending June 8

Counting down to awards handout and pay-day

The conclusion of the Friday Night Individual Darts League was wrapped up for another season at the June 8 committee meeting, with a massive payout and presentation night to look forward too on June 29 at Shodfriars starting at 8pm. All players are asked to attend as everyone has something to collect! It’s not just about the winners with all 49 players that completed the season entitled to draw their £15 bonds back.

Final positions and main prize winners are as follows:

BOSTON STANDARD PREMIER DIVISION

Winner, Martyn Palmer (£285); runner-up, Graham Sharp (£205); third, Ady Parker (£125); fourth, Dave Hasnip (£65). Other awards: most 180s, M Palmer (£10) for 20; top average, M Palmer (£20) for his 29.44 average;  and the top checkout goes to Bob Mountain (£20) for his 160.

LINCS RACING CHAMPIONSHIP
Winner, Darren Butler (£215); runner-up, Daley Richardson (£155); third, Daniel Martin (£115); fourth, Mick Vinters (£60). Other awards: most 180s, shared between Dick Taylor and Kev Dickinson (3 each); top average, Darren Butler 27.83, and the top checkout goes to Mick Flynn for his 149.

JOHN SMITH’S CHALLENGE
Winner, Dennis Turner (£185); runner-up, Keith Dack (£135); third, Scott Lea (£95); fourth, James Harmer (£50). Other awards: most 180s, Paul Limb  (3); leading lady was Sharon Butler (£80) who also collects the 180 and top average awards; runner–up was Emma Grant (£40); third, Angie Upsall (£20). Angie hit the highest checkout for the ladies with a 90 finish with Adam Kemp hitting a 104 for the men.

John Smith’s Challenge

Keith Dack grabbed second place behind Dennis Turner in the John Smith’s Challenge section as the final positions were decided on Friday night. It meant Keith had to beat his stepson James Harmer to confirm the final placings. And a 3-0 win with a 17.27 average was recorded for Keith to gain promotion ahead of James who now has to settle for fourth placed prize money. But James must still start a clear favourite for next season having narrowly missed out this time around.

It left Scott Lea in third place after he gained a 2-1 win over Dianne Jenkins. Scott had a 2-0 lead but let the final leg slip with some poor finishing. This allowed Dianne to grab a consolation leg.

Dennis Turner concluded with a hard-fought win as the division’s senior citizen George Harness went down fighting. A 23-dart leg from George put him 1-0 up, but missed doubles let Dennis in to escape with a 2-1 win.

Emma Grant secured runner-up lady’s position. A 2-1 win over Susan Games gave her enough points to secure that place. The fact that Emma also hit her very first 180 in the league in doing so was the cherry on the cake giving her a good end to her season.

This meant that Angie Upsall failed in her attempt to grab that position off Emma. A 3-0 win would have done! Or a 2-1 win over opponent Carla Slade would have forced a play-off. Sadly for Angie, neither was possible as she lost 2-1 to Carla. The wooden spoons award goes to Tina Willicombe. A valiant effort in her first season can only be built upon, although she finished her campaign with her most popular result. A 3-0 defeat to Suzie Watson was a bitter pill to take! If only those doubles had gone in as once again chances went begging!

Richard Attwell concluded with a win. It was no ‘awesome’ performance, though, as he struggled against Adam Kemp. Missed doubles ruined the first two legs before a 26-dart leg gave Richard a flattering 3-0 win.

Finally Carla Slade ended with win number two on the night yet another 2-1 victory this time over Susan Games. It leaves one game left to complete the season next week (June 8), Carla Slade v Adam Kemp.

After this lone encounter, the end of season committee meeting will be held at Shodfriars on Friday June 8 at 9pm when organisational details for the league’s presentation night on Friday June 29 (8pm also at Shodfriars) will be discussed.
