Target Premier Division

Mick Ray produced an excellent performance in the latest programme of action. He hit some red-hot form to smash Dave Hasnip 4-0 in a Target Premier Division encounter. Mick began with a 16 dart leg which included a 180 — not a bad start!

But it got better as the match progressed. Leg two swiftly followed and scores of 140, 100, 123, 46 and 92 (checkout) put him 2-0 up in just 14 darts. Dave was not playing badly but he could not live with Mick’s consistently high scoring. The pace slackened slightly in leg three and Dave had a shot at 87 to salvage a leg but he missed and Mick hit a 78 finish in 21 darts to go into a 3-0 lead. The game was wrapped up with another 14-dart leg which included yet another 180, as he recorded a 30.83 average.

Kev Lenton went into action equipped with yet another new set of darts — these bought only moments before he faced Jamie Robson. And he came away from the oche delighted with his performance.  Jamie is flying high in the table this year but Kev sprang a surprise. He led 1-0 with a 21-dart leg. And a brilliant 150 checkout in leg two put Kev in control at 2-0 up. Things got worse for Jamie when he slipped 3-0 down. But he did gain consolation in leg four as he eventually found a double to avoid the white wash. There looked to be a confidence boost for Jamie and had his 104 checkout gone in he would have been right back in the match at 3-2. Sadly he missed and Kev gleefully checked out on 54 to gain a 4-1 win.

Trev Day always starts his matches well and this was the case when he faced Ady Parker as he took the opening leg to lead 1-0. But doubles went astray after that and although Ady also failed to check out straight away, he always looked more capable. And so it proved as he ran out a 4-1 winner.

Steve Davis continues to struggle this term and although he took his match to 1-1 at one point with Dave Hasnip, he never looked comfortable. The tide swung Dave’s way in leg three when needing 187. A score of 177 was swiftly followed by double five first dart to make it 2-1. He went on to win 4-1 and ensure Steve remains rooted to the bottom of the table.

It turned out to be a great night for Mick Ray. In a re-arranged fixture against Bob Mountain, Mick picked up yet another 180 and maximum points in a 4-1 win over Bob — this time only one 19-dart leg was the highlight as Bob failed to take his chances at the double.

The final game in the division was between Ady Parker and Jamie Robson. A scrappy first leg went Jamie’s way and a 97 checkout put him into a 2-0 lead, although both players scored at times it was Jamie who hit the all important doubles and he went on to run out a 4-0 winner to shoot up the table into second place.

Lincs Racing Division Two

Richard Pearson continues to lead the way in this division. Another impressive performance made it eight wins on the bounce — just like Chelsea! He faced Paul Storr and a 20-dart leg put Richard 1-0 up. Paul hit  back to tie the match at 1-1 but better scoring and finishing meant that Richard went on to take the game at 3-1.

His nearest rival, Mick Flynn, suffered his first defeat to date as a resurgent Harry Lee gained the first of two victories on the night. Harry scored well and took all his chances as he beat Mick 3-0.  Harry turned in another impressive performance later in the evening when a 180 and a 22.77 average proved far too good for opponent Mick Vinters. This allowed Harry to hit legs of 30, 15, and 21  darts to gain his second 3-0 win if the evening.

Mick Parker and Andy Skipworth battled out a five-leg encounter. Despite Andy coming back from 2-1 down to tie it up at 2-2, Mick held on to snatch a 3-2 victory.

Derek Johnson was another player in-form on the night. He began with a 3-1 win over Jon Paul Carney and followed it up with a hard fought 3-2 win over Andy Skipworth.

The final game in the division saw Rick Woods miss the opportunity to climb up the table as he went down 3-0 to Mick Vinter — Rick continuing to suffer “double trouble” resulting in his lowly position in the table.

John Smith’s Division Three

Here Pete Johnson still sees himself at the top of the table after a good 3-0 win over Keith Dack. The result meant that Keith lost his 100 percent  start to his campaign!

George Harness shot up to second in the table, joining Peter on 18 points after he gained a 3-0 win over Terry Shepherd and a 3-0 victory over Don Holmes — making a great night for the senior citizen!

Emma Grant now has the upper hand in her household as she inflicted a 2-1 defeat on hubby Matt. The shock upset Matt’s game so much that he also went down 2-1 to Keith Dack. After two poor legs, it was decided on “mad-house.” Keith then hit a 107 checkout in the decider to compound Matt’s misery.

Rob Birtwhistle was fortunate to find himself 2-0 up against Christine Holmes as the latter failed to take her chances. But an 85 checkout in the third leg gave Rob a flattering 3-0 victory.

An all-lady clash followed as Angie Upsall and Emma Grant toed the oche and it was the latter that came away with another 2-1 victory to shoot up the table as the highest placed female competitor.

Ady Blackham put last week’s defeat behind him as he gained a 3-0 victory over Don Holmes. It rounded off  a lacklustre night for Don.

Angie Upsall bounced back quickly to winning ways at the expense of high flying Richard Atwell, Angie hitting a 54 checkout in the deciding leg to record a shock 2-1 win.

The final game of the night saw Carla Slade apply the pressure to Chris Ray. The latter was relieved to escape with a 3-0 win as the doubles went in his favour.

Reports for matches played Friday September 23

Target Premier Division

Chris Royal’s unbeaten run in the Boston Individual Friday Darts League has come to an end. After winning five Target Premier Division matches in a row, Martyn Palmer proved one obstacle too many. Martyn (not yet at his best this year) gained a 4-0 win with legs of 23, 16, 21 and 21 darts to win with a 24.74 average.

Ady Parker, equipped with new darts, produced the division’s best performance on the night against a difficult opponent in Kev Lenton. Ady was just too good as he fired in legs of 19 and 21 darts to lead 2-1. He quickly put the game beyond Kev with 16 and 18 darts to wrap up a 4-0 win, hitting a 27.08 average.

Trev Day looked to cause an upset when he fought back in the opening leg of his game with Jamie Robson. Trev was miles adrift until a 180 and a 122 checkout on the bull put him unexpectedly 1-0 up in 18 darts. Jamie drew level at 1-1 in 17 darts but a scrappy third leg followed that eventually went Jamie’s way on double one in 31 darts. Normal service was resumed after that as Jamie hit 20 and 21 dart legs for victory by 4-1 with a 23.32 average.

Tony Hillyard scored well against Graham Sharp with the latter trying his best to match Tony. But they were miles apart when it came to finishing as Tony was clinical, hence the 4-0 scoreline with a 24.74 average.

Simon Trigg shot into a 2-0 lead against Debra Royal. with Deb slow off the forecourt, she made it 2-1 to get back into the match only to watch Simon extend his lead again to 3-1.

But double one was just too elusive in leg five as he looked to kill the game off. It allowed Deb to stage a comeback, a 74 checkout to make it 3-3 before she hit an 83 checkout on the bull to grab a 4-3 victory from a bemused Simon.

Lincs Racing Division Two

In this division, Richard Pearson continues to lead the way as he chalked up win number seven on the trot. Even a pacy Rob Scrupps failed to throw him off track. It looked possible after Rob made it 1-1 with a 94 checkout, but it was not to be as Richard went on to win 3-1.

He is now hotly pursued by Mick Flynn, who is also unbeaten. His latest was a 3-0 win over Shane Wilcock with a 20.13 average. This was just too good and keeps him second, just ahead of Damien Hatfield who is also six games unbeaten. Damien had to work hard to overcome Rick Woods who almost felled Damien, only to lose 3-2. Another five-legger followed when Jon Paul Carney and Scott Lea clashed. Scott hit an 80 checkout to lead 2-1 but when the chequered flag came out, Jon Paul had won 3-2.

Shane Wilcock had a miserable night. After losing earlier 3-0, he suffered another white-wash, this time to Derek Johnson who hit a 21.16 average (the division’s best) and once again was too good for Shane. You rarely play two games the same and so it proved when Mick Parker mugged Derek 3-2 with a double one finish. It looked as if Mick was trying to bust to go back to double 10 but it failed and Mick gleefully accepted the win next throw.

Kevin Dickinson moved into the top four when he stopped JP Carney from a win double, Kev winning 3-1 with a 17.76 average.

The final game saw Andy Skipworth hit a 96 checkout and a 17.04 average to beat Peter Pedro Silva 3-1 leaving Pedro to ponder how he had lost with an 18-15 average.

John Smith’s Division Three

Here, George Harness rolled back the years to produce a great leg of darts in his game with Diane Jenkins. George hit 83, 100, 117, 73 and 114 in an attempted 128 checkout to leave 14, which he hit next time for a 2-0 lead. To Diane’s credit, she should have gained a consolation leg but nine proved elusive allowing George to hit double one for a 3-0 win.

Emma Grant has so far managed to stay off the bottom this year. But after heavy defeats to Rob Birtwhistle and Richard Atwell both 3-0, she could soon be back in last year’s position.

One lady who is flying high is Carla Slade. After a shaky start she fought back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 against Ady Blackham. Pete Johnson remains at the top despite losing his first game of the season. Matty Grant beat Pete 2-1 and but for that three point deduction he would not be at the wrong end of the table.

The final game saw Suzy Watson beat Christine Holmes 2-1. After Suzy held a 2-0 lead Chris gained   consolation, taking the last leg.

Note: Mark Mitchell has withdrawn. All points have been deducted, leaving a bye in Division Three.

 Target Premier Division

Chris Royal maintained a 100 percent success record in the Target Premier division. His latest success was by a  4-1 margin over Kev Lenton. The win keeps him in second place.

Jamie Robson was in steady form — and had to be against Simon Trigg. A tight contest saw Jamie check out well to run off with a 4-2 Target Premier Division win. Dave Hasnip and Deb Royal had a good match. It went all the way before Dave took the spoils in a 3-2 win.

Jamie Robson was back to the oche up against Martyn Palmer. In a close game Jamie was the more consistent and pipped Martyn 4-3 to make it a win brace. Debra Royal returned to the action up against Bob Mountain, Deb was checking out well and wrapped up a 4-2 win. Trev Day then took on Tony Hillyard in another seven legger which Trev took 4-3.

League leader Shane Parker was next into action against Bob Mountain. Both Bob and Shane were not at their best but Shane found the double to eke out a valuable 4-3 win to stay top.

The last game of the night was the best as Tony Hillyard took on Ady Parker. Both scored heavily at times but Tony was just the better at checking out well to win 4-2. And Tony hit the night’s best average 24.49 to Ady’s 23.81. The top finish was 110, hit by J Robson and B Mountain. Scores of 180s came from C Royal, D Royal, T Hillyard and B Mountain.

Lincs Racing Division Two

In Lincs Racing Division Two, Richard Pearson moved to top slot, with six wins out of six. He took on Mick Parker and checked out well to win 3-1. He also hit the night’s top average of 22.90 to Mick’s 19.45. Mick Flynn is second but did not play.

Damian Hatfield moved level with Mick as he picked up a good 3-2 win over Scott Lea. Earlier Scott had played Paul Storr. Paul was the steadier of the two and collected a 3-0 win to go fourth. Kev Dickinson made it four wins on the bounce. He took on Rob Scrupps and picked up a good 3-0 win.

Redvers Dickinson went up to sixth after beating Dick Taylor 3-1 in a close match.

Pete Silva picked up his third victory, but had to battle hard against Shane Wilcock who almost collected his first win. Pete held in the last leg to take a 3-2 decision. Derek Johnson was pushed all the way by battling Rob Scrupps. But Derek was just the more consistent and checked out well to eventually win 3-2. The highest finish of the night was 107 by Paul Storr.

John Smith’s Division Three

In John Smith’s Division Three, Ady Blackham made it three wins on the trot and starts to move up the table. He took on Diane Jenkins. Ady took the opener as Diane missed double 16. Ady made it 2-0 with Diane waiting to pounce. Diane’s consistent pressure paid off in the last leg, checking out on 20 but Ady won 2-1.

George Harness had to work hard to beat battling Carla Slade 2-1. Suzy Watson and Emma Grant had a close battle, Suzy just edging it in the last leg to win 2-1. The ladies are really all battling hard and making the men sweat. Richard Atwell felt the heat but still kept his cool to just win 2-1.

Dennis Turner picked up a 3-0 walkover against Matt Grant. Pete Johnson kept his roll going, picking up two wins on the night and is still unbeaten. He first played Bob Birtwhistle, Pete holding on well at the finish to win 3-0. He later took on Chris Holmes. Pete took the opening leg quite convincingly but Chris battled back well and could have taken the match but Pete held to win 3-0.

Keith Dack remains the only other player with a 100 percent record. He made it four wins after a consistent game against Don Holmes. Don took the second leg but Keith took the last for a 2-1 success.

The last game of the night saw Dennis Turner take on Bob Birtwhistle. This was really close but Dennis picked off the doubles to win 3-0 and move up to second place. Dennis hit the night’s top average of 15.49 and the night’s top finish of 78.

Graham Sharp and Trev Day had a left-hander’s battle. It was a scrappy, inconsistent game but a 16-darter for Graham helped him to his first win of 4-2. Jamie Robson got his season under way with a good 4-2 win over Tony Hillyard in a tight match. A 90 checkout edged Jamie over the line.

Simon Trigg picked up his first win. Simon was overall more consistent against Steve Davis and ran out a 4-1 winner. In Lincs Racing Division Two, Mick Flynn is the new leader. He took on Andy Skipworth. A nip and tuck game went all the way to the last leg which Mick took to win 3-2. Damian Hatfield also keeps his unbeaten run going after just seeing off Shane Wilcock 3-2. Redvers Dickinson moved up the table after picking up a good 3-1 win over Paul Storr. Kev Dickinson made it three wins out of three, as he took on Mick Parker in a tight match, Kev checking out well to win 3-1.

John Smith’s Division Three

In John Smith’s Divsion Three, Emma Grant and Terry Shepherd opened the night’s play. Both had shots at the doubles but Terry got the winning ones to take a 2-1 victory.

It wasn’t quite elementary in the “battle of the Holmeses” as Chris took on Don. Chris took the opener and missed the chance to lead 2-0. Don remained calm and levelled it, setting up a tense last leg. Both had several shots at the doubles, but finally Don held on for a 2-1 win. Chris Ray and Dennis Turner were next up. Chris took the opener only to see Dennis hit back straight away to level. The last leg was close, but Chris held on at the end to take a 2-1 win.

But Chris checked out well to win 3-0. Top average of the night was by C Ray on 16.70.

Week four in the Shodfriars Friday Night Individual Darts League started with a good match between Bob Mountain and Dave Hasnip.

Martyn Palmer and Tony Hillyard and a great contest. It went all the way before Martyn just won 4-3. The next game up was between Chris Royal and Graham Sharp. Chris produced one cracking leg — a 12-darter including a bull finish on 121 — which paved the way to a 4-1 win.
