Target Premier Division
The top four players in the top division were not in
action this week. As a result, the attention fell on the players at the lower
end of the table. Graham “Kojak” Sharp faced Bob Mountain in the first game,
in a clash of two seasoned
campaigners. Once again both are having indifferent seasons, but Bob was five
places ahead of Graham in mid-table security while the latter has found
himself in the bottom two thus far. Graham
started the better and two steady legs of 22 and 23 darts respectively put
him 2-0 up. Leg three saw Graham produce the best darts of the match scoring
55, 100, 95, 121, 105, 25 (checkout) for a 3-0 lead in just 17 darts. By now thoughts were turning to a surprise
and a rare 4-0 win for Graham. He came under pressure from Bob in leg four
but Bob failed to checkout and Graham managed to cross the line for a much
needed maximum margin win to move up the table. But it was only for a short while. Steve Davis and Tony Hillyard were on next. Steve knew
he needed to win to maintain the points ratio and not become adrift. In a
bizarre game, though, Tony hit two maximums but failed to find a double. When
he did, it was to halve the deficit after being 2-0 down. To Steve’s credit
he held his form and continued to outscore Tony. And he went on to record a
surprise 4-1 win with a 23.37 average.
This was only bettered by Simon Trigg who recorded a
23.52 average in his game with Dave Hasnip.
Dave got off to a flyer and went 1-0 up. This soon became 2-0 as a 180 in a 17-dart leg
put him in command at 2-0 up. The game quickly turned around from that point
as Simon staged a recovery after taking three legs on the trot. Simon needed 104 in leg six for victory
and he hit the checkout with three darts to grab a 4-2 win. Debra Royal featured in the longest and poorest games of
the night as she faced Kev Lenton and Trev Day respectively. Against Kev she
got off to a flyer, four tons and a five left her 96 - a total on which she
checked out on to lead 1-0 in 18 darts. But “Grinder” Lenton always tends to slug
out results in marathon style. Leg two was an epic 40-dart leg as Kev showed
Deb where double one was — eventually! He moved in to a 3-1 lead and looked
on course for a double-quick victory for him! But no. Some 40 minutes later
in leg seven he eventually got to the winning line for a 4-3 win hitting a
180 in the final leg. The experience stood Deb in good stead for the final
game of the night in a curtailed programme, as she needed seven legs this
time to overcome Trev Day. Having been in front at 3-1 she almost allowed
Trev to steal victory before gaining the win 4-3 with arguably the best leg
of the match just at the right time! Lincs
Racing Division Two
Harry “Lottery” Lee is on a mission this year to make a
swift return back to the Premier Division.
He played by far the best on the night in the division
taking all the awards up against Mick Parker. Harry turned on the style 19,
18 and 26 darts and quickly put the result beyond Mick. He also hit his sixth
180 of the season in the process and recorded a 23.85 average. Later in the night he hit a 101 checkout against high
flying Redvers Dickinson to come back from 1-0 down to win 3-1. It turned out to be a bad night for Redvers. In a
re-arranged game he went down 3-0 to Peter Pedro Silva as the latter
continued his good form of late. Mick Flynn is still well in touch with the top of the
table in second spot after he beat Mick Vinters 3-1. After waiting six weeks for a win it's now
two back to back for Rick Woods as he beat Andy Skipworth 3-1, this despite
Andy hitting a 180 in a leg he failed to win to stay in the match. Richard Pearson still tops the table this despite a
point deduction, a 3-1 win over Scott “Banger” Lea means he holds a
three-point cushion at the top although he has played more games then anyone
else. Two players with title aspirations toed the oche next as
Derek Johnson and Kev Dickinson clashed it took all five legs to find a
winner but Kev came away happier with a 3-2 win. The final game was between Rob “Quickfire” Scrupps and
Dick “Top-Pocket” Taylor. Both players found doubles elusive in all legs but
Dick ran out a 3-1 winner. Jon Paul
Carney has had a three- point deduction for a rule breach enforced by the
committee. John Smiths Division Three
Chris Ray has reached the top this despite going down
2-1 to Rob Birtwhistle his leg difference is superior and he has a game in
hand of his nearest rival Ady Blackham who was not in action this week. Suzy Watson is this week’s biggest climber as she
recorded a double her first opponent was Diane Jenkins who she beat 3-0 and
the whitewash was completed in style with a 16.33 average (top). She also
beat Angie Upsall by a 3-0 scoreline. Carla Slade is hot on her heels for top lady honours as
she firstly made Richard Atwell work hard for his 2-1 win before going on to
beat Christine Holmes 2-1 in game two.
Hubby Don fared no better. Dennis Turner found a 75 checkout — the night’s best in the
division — to help secure a 2-1 win and his night was complete after victory
over Keith Dack also by a 2-1 score line gave him a double. The final game saw Angie Upsall gain a 3-0 win over
Christine Holmes to conclude a miserable night for the Holmes household! The Lincolnshire county darts squad is at home this weekend (November 5 and 6) at their new venue, the Sun Castle on the seafront at Skegness. They will be looking to continue their success after winning away at Warwickshire last month. The squad face Staffordshire this coming weekend, Staffordshire are coming heavily supported taking up two hotels. It would be nice to see strong Lincolnshire support throughout the weekend. |

Target Premier Division Shane Parker is still top of the league after the latest
round of action. But he rode his luck to maintain his unbeaten run as Jamie Robson pushed him the closest yet! The first two legs could have gone either way as both
players were down to a double together but it was Shane who hit 24 dart and
19 dart legs to lead 2-0. This produced an instant response from Jamie who
scored 140, 45, 121, 83, 112 out in a 17-dart third leg to make it 2-1. And
he tied the match at 2-2 with a 20-dart leg.
Shane regained the lead at 3-2, but once again Jamie
drew level at 3-3. The final leg saw both players miss doubles as the
pressure mounted Jamie was guilty of missing 52, 32, and 16 out shots with
three darts, allowing Shane to come down and miss his attempt at 94 once
before hitting 60 to record eight wins on the trot albeit narrowly at
4-3. Tony Hillyard put last year’s champion Mick Ray under
pressure for the first half of their match. As the scores reached 2-2, no leg
had gone beyond 21 darts and Tony had hit a 180. Mick went back in front at 3-2 with an 18-dart leg. And when
Tony missed double 20 and double 10 to stay in the match at 3-3 he knew his
chance had gone, allowing Mick in to win 4-2 with a 20 dart leg. In the
process he recorded the division’s highest average of 25.24 to Tony’s 23.82
in defeat. Martyn Palmer had to come back from 1-0 down as Steve
Davis belied his position at the foot to go ahead in 18 darts. But a 180 from Martyn drew him level and from that
point he went on to take three quick legs hitting 20, 21 and 21 darts to win
4-1. And there was no way back for Steve.
Ady Parker is a lot higher up the league this year. And the
window cleaner scaled new heights up against Simon Trigg. Ady was always in control, taking the
first three legs before Simon found an 84 checkout to take leg four and at least avoid the white wash. But Ady
hit back to win 4-1 in 18 darts with Simon a long way back on 287. Chris Royal’s good start has truly evaporated. He
started with five wins and was top of the league at the start. But three
thumping defeats in a row has seen him
slide down to mid-table. In his latest game he came up against a rampant
Dave Hasnip who swiftly put Chris to the sword by a 4-0 margin — a 180 in a 16-dart leg being the
highlight. Graham Sharp ended the Premier Division action with a
match against Jamie Robson. At times both players scored well, but the
doubles were a problem. It resulted in a bizarre match with the best leg by far being a 17-darter
from Jamie and the worst being a 42! This resulted in six mediocre legs of
darts and treble ones continually blighted Graham’s attempted comeback. It
meant a victory for Jamie by 4-2 and a rise up the table into the top three. Lincs Racing Division Two
In this division there has been yet another withdrawal
casualty with Shane Wilcocks dropping
out this week. Nevertheless the action and standard of play in the
division is on the up with Kev Dickinson having made a marked improvement
this season. In fact he was one of the only two players in all divisions yet
to taste defeat. That was until he
faced his uncle Redvers this week! Redvers ended his unbeaten six-game run in style hitting
a 23.48 average in a 3-1 win, this after Kev had hit a 100 checkout in the
first to lead 1-0. It signalled a good night for Redvers Dickinson and a bad
one was to continue for Kev later.
Redvers went on to gain win number two at the expense of Scott Lea
with a 3-0 whitewash. Kev went down
3-2 to against Mick Vinters. Richard Pearson was another to suffer defeat. After
eight wins it’s now two losses on the trot as Peter (Pedro) Silva continues
to gain some impressive victories in his first campaign. Pedro came away with a 3-1 win as Richard made a hasty
retreat. Table-topper Mick Flynn was
another to come unstuck as he failed to get in a blow against Derek Johnson
with Derek gaining a 3-0 win. Dick
“Top-Pocket” Taylor came back from 1-0 down against Andy Skipworth to win
3-1. Highflying Damien Hatfield and Rob “Quick-Fire” Scrupps needed all five legs to find a
winner; it went in the end to Rob 3-2.
The final game saw Rick Woods at last record another victory after six
defeats on the bounce, Rick felled Jon Paul Carney 3-1. John Smith’s Division Three
The upsets continued with top of the table Pete Johnson
losing to bottom placed Di Jenkins, Pete was 1-0 up when Di hit a 53 checkout
to draw level at 1-1. And she went on to mug Pete 2-1 in the decider on
double two. This allowed Ady Blackham to move up to the top after
his two games on the night resulted in wins over Keith Dack and Angie Upsall,
2-1 and 3-0 respectively. Chris Ray
moved into the top three with an impressive 17.47 average (top for the
division) as he beat Suzy Watson 3-0.
The ladies continue to cause upsets and another came
when Angie Upsall turned over Don Holmes 2-1, but Christine Holmes narrowly
failed in her attempt to beat Keith Dack with Keith holding on for a 2-1
victory with a 54 checkout in the deciding leg. Rob Birtwhistle was 1-0 up against Don Holmes with Don
looking to avoid another defeat, fortunately Rob ran out of puff and Don
fought back for a 2-1 win. Matt Grant was another who trailed 1-0, this time to
Terry Shepherd before fighting back to gain a 2-1 win. The final game saw Dennis “Panther” Turner run off with
a 3-0 win over Carla “Bambi” Slade to leave Carla legless and very shaky! Please note: All committee members
are asked to attend the next committee meeting on Friday October 28 (7pm) as
several issues need resolving this month. |

Target Premier Division Shane Parker is leading the way in the top division
after making it seven wins in a row. In his latest match he faced Dave Hasnip
in what looked on paper a tough clash. But it was not the case as both
players fought out a mediocre game.
Shane was 2-0 up before Dave got into stride in leg three to cut the
deficit to 2-1. Shane always looked in control, though, and he looked able to
call on reserves when required hitting 19 and 17 dart legs to wrap up a 4-1
win with a 24-02 average. A mid-table clash followed between Simon Trigg and Bob
Mountain. It produced arguably the best darts of the night. Simon went 1-0 up
and increased this to 2-0 only after Bob had bust on his attempted 74
checkout to draw level. It looked as if it was going to be one of those
nights for Bob when he bust again in leg three, this time attempting a 100
checkout. But Simon also missed his chance on 97 and Bob gleefully checked
out on 100 the second time to pull it back to 2-1. Simon started leg four
with a 180 but double trouble struck and the leg went to Bob for 2-2. At that
point Bob rolled back the years to the 1970s and he hit scores of 60, 180, 57, 82 and 122 out on the bull
for a 15 dart leg and took the lead in the match for the first time at 3-2.
Simon responded well to force the decider in 21 darts and he went on to win
in the end 4-3 with probably the worst leg of the match. Martyn Palmer only needed four legs to overcome Kev
Lenton in a comfortable win that took him up to third place. Sadly for Kev,
his new arrows that went so well last week were astray this time around and
he never got into the match needing 119, 274, 178 and 56 when Martyn had won
with a 24.74 average (the division’s best). The final game saw Ady Parker move up to second spot after a 4-1 win over Chris Royal with a 23.24 average, the highlight being a 16 dart leg as Chris’ promising start evaporates to two defeats on the bounce. Lincs Racing Division Two Mick Flynn moved to the top of the table after a
profitable night’s work. He started with a tough five-leg encounter with Dick
Taylor, narrowly coming home a 3-2 winner hitting a 70 checkout in the
process (division’s best). Later, in a top of the table clash he took on the
unbeaten Richard Pearson and he would have been delighted to record an 18.10
average (equal top in division) in a 3-0 win. Harry Lee seems to hit 180s for fun and bagged another
two this week in his game with Pedro Silva. Unfortunately for Harry, his
trouble is at the finishing end of the game. This resulted in Pedro hitting
his own 180 and beating Harry 3-2. Rick Woods continues to struggle in the win department.
And although taking Redvers Dickinson the distance, he was unable to add to
his sole win thus far, going down 3-2 in a tight match. Kev Dickinson is now the only unbeaten player in the
division. He recorded his sixth straight success equalling the top average of
18.10 as he beat highflying Damien Hatfield 3-0. It was an excellent result
as it inflicted Damien’s first defeat of the season. The final game saw Derek Johnson shoot up the table to
fifth place after he recorded a 3-0 victory over Dick Taylor this concluded a
miserable night for “Top-Pocket.” John Smith’s
Division Three
In this division there were only three matches this week. Chris Ray gained a 3-0 win over Diane Jenkins with a
13-78 average to go third and Terry Shepherd caused the biggest upset when he
beat Keith Dack 2-1 to inflict another loss on Keith. After five previous
wins on the trot, he has now lost his last two. The effort meant that Terry
had burned himself out for his next match as he went down 3-0 to Ady Blackham
a result that shot the latter up to fourth spot in his first year in the
league. |
