Boston Standard Premier Division There were only three games in the top
section this week. But one was a key battle as Martyn Palmer and Mick Ray —
both in fine form — came face to face. And for once a top of the table
encounter produced some high scoring. Each player hit a maximum and the game
went the distance as the opening six legs were shared as every leg was won in
19 darts or less. The decider was the worst leg in a tight match but Martyn
secured a 4-3 win with a 26.18 average (highest in division) to Mick’s 24-80
in defeat. A “battle Royal” followed next in every
sense of the wordas mum Deb Royal took on son Chris. The first four legs were
shared, notably when Chris hit a 75 checkout to draw level at 2-2. But Deb
went on to take the match and win 4-2 and avoid having to throw her darts in
the Haven — something she did after losing to Chris last season. Fortunately
Chris is on a losing run with only one win in his last 15 games. So any bets
this time looked safe! The final game saw Mick Ray quickly back on
the winning trail. A 4-0 whitewash over Trev Day looked easily achieved but
Trev did hit a 180 in one leg to briefly threaten but no doubles were
reached. Lincs Racing Division Two This week’s shock result saw lowly Rob
Scrupps beat table topper Harry Lee. You may think Rob played well but the
game turned on missed doubles. Harry could not hit a barn door and Rob
gleefully capitalised to gain a 3-1 win with a 13.32 average to scupper
Harry’s title aspirations — thus handing the advantage to Richard Pearson
when he returns to action on April 14. Redvers Dickinson produced the best stats in
the division, a 21.82 average and a 116 checkout in a 15-dart leg saw him
gain a 3-1 win over Pedro Silva in style. Kev Dickinson jumped up from a congested
mid-table position into fourth spot after he gained a hard fought 3-1 win
averaging 18.73 against Paul Storr, this despite Paul averaging higher with a
19.86 statistic. The final game between Mick Parker and Dick
Taylor featured 33 and 35 dart legs but Mick came away the happier with a 3-1
win. John Smith’s Division Three This was the busiest division by far with
nine games taking place. Leader Adie Blackham was not in action, giving him
the luxury of watching the chasing pack falter behind him. Chris Ray went down 2-1 to fourth placed
Denis Turner and third placed Pete Johnson also went down 2-1 to Matt Grant, although
both did return later to gain 3-0 wins over Emma Grant and Christine Holmes
respectively. Keith Dack produced the division’s best
performance. His 17.63 average helped him gain a 2-1 win over highflying George
Harness. And when Keith followed that with a 3-0 win over Carla Slade, it
concluded a great night’s work for him taking him into sixth place. Suzy Watson gained a 3-0 win against Carla
Slade also to make it a bad night for the latter. But Matt Grant completed a
winning double with a 2-1 success over Don Holmes. The final game saw Richard Atwell somehow
gain a 2-1 win over Di Jenkins. Both players suffered double trouble all the
way through the match. Fortunately Richard was 2-0 up before Di gained a deserved
consolation. There is no action in any divisions on April 7 to avoid
a clash with the Old Leake Darts League finals night. Matches will resume on
April 14. |

Boston Standard Premier Division
This week’s
top section action saw a top of the table encounter between Shane and Ady
Parker. The long time leader was slow into his stride and Ady took the
opening leg to lead 1-0. Ady then hit a 124 checkout to increase his lead to
2-0.An 18-dart leg followed which went Ady’s way, leaving a shell-shocked
Shane 3-0 down. Under pressure, the
latter responded by hitting a 180 in leg four to reduce the deficit with a
14-dart leg. This seemed to spark Shane into a revival and he took the next
two legs to tie the game at 3-3. The decider saw Ady hold on to withstand the
fightback and take the match 4-3. Mick Ray faced Tony Hillyard. And in a tight
game Tony just had the edge to take a 3-1 lead. Mick hit back by taking leg five
in 18 darts with a 117 checkout and things kept going his way when he started
leg six with scores of 100, 121, 180, leaving 100 after just nine darts.
Somehow, though, Mick failed to find a double with nine darts and this
allowed a gleeful Tony to take the match 4-2. This result seemed to inspire
Tony as he later returned in a re-arranged game against Steve Davis. He
started the first leg with scores of 125, 100, 140, 78, and 58 (out) for a
14-dart leg. With the score at 2-1 in Tony’s favour, he then produced a 113
checkout in 15 darts to go further in front. A battling Steve hit back to
make it 3-2, but Tony always held the advantage running out a 4-2 winner to
complete an excellent double. Graham Sharp was next to the oche against
Bob Mountain. Bob produced a 19-dart leg to go 1-0 up, but Graham responded
with some clinical finishing, a 180 and a 17-dart leg the highlights as
checkouts of 40, 63, 18, and 55 enabled him to take four legs on the
trot. The final game was a scrappy affair between
relegation favourite Trev Day and Deb Royal. Deb found herself with a 3-1
lead but some slow play and tactical darts threw her off track and Trev edged
his way back to take a shock 4-3 win. Lincs Racing Division Two A new leader now heads the division! Pearson
hit a 22.43 average with legs of 24, 20, and 23 darts to outgun Scott Lea.
The win took Richard to the top on legs difference as former leader Harry Lee
crashed to only his fourth defeat of the season in a tight game with Kev
Dickinson. Harry’s doubles went astray. This allowed Kev to pinch a 3-2 win
with a 99 checkout and a 17.20 average.
Mick Flynn remains in the top three after he
gained a narrow victory over Dick Taylor. Dick pushed Mick all the way as he
led at one point 2-1 but he was unable to hold Mick off as the latter fought
back to win 3-2 with a 20.75 average.
Pedro Silva hit the division’s highest
checkout. His 103 brought him level at 1-1 with Mick Vinters. The next two
legs were shared, but Pedro took the decider for a narrow 3-2 win. The final game saw Rob “Quickfire” Scrupps
take on Paul Storr. Rob was always in control which allowed him to record a
rapid 3-0 win. John Smith’s Division Three This week there were 11 games in the
division. Among the highlights was current leader Ady Blackham beating Matty
Grant in a tight game 2-1 to maintain his lead at the top. Chris Ray, in second, is doing his best to
keep up with the leader. A 15.98 average (the division’s highest) saw him
gain a 3-0 win over Christine Holmes. This was quickly followed by a 2-1 win
over Richard Atwell. The only player to pick up maximum points
from two games played on the night was George Harness with a 3-0 win over
Suzy Watson followed in identical fashion in game two with success against Di
Jenkins. Pete Johnson, celebrating his 71st
birthday (more then he scores) had to fight back from 1-0 down against Emma
Grant to gain a 2-1 win and maintain his third place spot. A rare event occurred next when Carla Slade hit
a 180 in her game with Denis Turner. Ufortunately it was not enough to stop
her going 2-0 down. But she did salvage a consolation point by taking leg
three! After waiting for so long for only the third
maximum in the division, the fourth quickly followed. In the next game at the
oche, Richard Atwell hit one in his second leg to draw level with Keith Dack.
But it was Keith who went on to win 2-1.
Rob Birtwhistle slips down to sixth place
despite gaining a 3-0 win at the expense of Don Holmes. The final word for the night went to the match that saw
Angie Upsall take a 1-0 lead over Suzy Watson with a 77 checkout. But Suzy
hit back to take the next two legs to seal a 2-1 win. |

Boston Standard Premier Division There was little in the way of quality on show in the
top section this week with only a handful of games taking place. One player who has shown some form in recent weeks as he
mounts a late run is Graham Sharp. Up against Dave Hasnip, he trailed 1-0 but
then hit back with some excellent finishing. Leg two saw him draw level with
one dart at double 12 and he then went 2-1 up hitting a 120 checkout. Graham
extended his lead to 3-1 with a 106 checkout in leg four and killed off the
game with another one-dart finish to win 4-1 and maintain his chance of a top
four finish after a disastrous start. Martyn Palmer’s modest 24.85 average was the best of the
night and it was enough to give him a 4-1 win over Steve Davis. It moved
Martyn to within two points of long-time leader Shane Parker who was not in
action. With Mick Ray also not in action, it gave Ady Parker the
chance to climb into the top three — something the local window cleaner
should be used to. And he managed to clean up at the expense of Simon Trigg.
In a tight encounter, Ady came out on top with a 4-2 win, hitting a 23.82
average to go into third place. Chris Royal was on the receiving end once again. After a
“waxing for charity” last week, Bob Mountain showed some smooth finishing to
beat Chris by more than just a whisker.
Bob plucked his way to a comfortable 4-1 win. The final game saw Steve Davis make a quick return to
winning ways. A 20.93 average was surprisingly good enough to beat an
out-of-sorts Dave Hasnip 4-1, the highlight being a 19-dart leg. Lincs Racing Division Two The top four players all took a break this week so the action featured mid-table players. Pedro Silva ended a five game losing run to get back to
winning ways at the expense of Rick Woods. The latter is pulling no trees up
this season and Pedro’s modest 14.44 average and 98 checkout saw him gain a
3-1 win. Paul Storr improved on that, recording an 18.20 average
(the division’s best) as he came back from 1-0 down to out-throw Dick Taylor
in a 3-1 win. A break failed to revive Mick Parker’s fortunes. Double
trouble struck yet again, resulting in a 3-0 defeat to Kev Dickinson as the
latter gained a flattering win which saw him also have numerous darts at
doubles before hitting the winning line. The final game in the division went much the same way.
This time Scott Lea failed to find a double. This resulted in a 3-0 loss to
Redvers Dickinson. John Smith’s Division Three Denis Turner brought Richard Atwell’s winning run to an
end. An 81 checkout drew him level at 1-1 before going on to wrap up a 2-1
win with a 15.45 average. This was bettered by table topper Adie Blackham when he
needed a 15.60 average to overcome a resolute Emma Grant 2-1. Emma failed to
bounce back in her next game. She trailed Suzy Watson 2-0 before gaining a consolation
in taking leg three. In a depleted programme, the final game saw Angie Upsall
conquer Di Jenkins in a 116-dart marathon by a 2-1 scoreline. |

Boston Standard Premier Division Trev Day suffered yet another defeat to quickly end his
one-game winning run. Up against Martyn Palmer, the first two legs were over
in a flash when the latter hit 17 and 16 dart legs to take a 2-0 lead. He was
soon 3-0 up and a swift whitewash looked possible. But Martyn failed to hit a
double with 12 darts, spoiling a great average and costing him the leg. Was this to be a consolation for Trev or
was a great Houdini act about to take place. Well, if that was Trev’s
intention it quickly came unstuck as Martyn sealed a 4-1 win with a great 154
checkout. Another great checkout followed in the next game as Kev
Lenton went into a 2-1 lead against Tony Hillyard by hitting bull, treble 15
and double 20 for a 135 checkout. But this only stirred Tony into action and
he made it 2-2. He then followed this with scores of 120, 140, 140, 101 (out)
for a superb 12-dart leg to take a 3-2 lead before going on to take the match
4-2. Graham Sharp will have his sights set on a top four
finish to get in the money after he gained a victory over Ady Parker. With
Ady occupying that prized spot, he really should have played better. But
despite hitting a 180 in leg two to draw level at 1-1, little else went right
for Ady and Graham secured a 4-2 win to close the gap between the two. Shane Parker had no such problems as he heads for retirement. Hoping to secure the title, the baby-faced baby-maker hit a 180 in a 17-dart leg to lead Bob Mountain 1-0. And 19 darts later it was 2-0. Bob briefly hit back with an 82 checkout to make it 2-1. But Shane went on to secure a 4-1 win leaving Bob with a mountain to climb at the opposite end of the table. Simon Trigg was on target this week. His recent run of
losing matches due to missed doubles came to an end in a tight game with Dave
Hasnip. Simon kept his act together to run out a 4-2 winner. The final game in the top section was a good match. It
featured Lincolnshire’s national singles play-off winners Mick Ray and Deb
Royal. Mick went 1-0 up in 20 darts. But Deb hit back with 17 and 20 dart
legs to lead 2-1. However, she missed chances to increase her advantage
before going back in front at 3-2. And when she failed again, it was destined
to go all the way. And so it proved. The annoying thing for Deb was that the
result also went with it and Mick grabbed a 4-3 win. Lincs Racing Division Two
Richard Pearson remains in hot pursuit. His 20.04
average gave him a 3-0 win over Dick Taylor with the latter unable to line up
a double,. Dark horse Derek Johnson may yet get in the shake-up.
His 20.07 average gave him a hard fought 3-2 win over Paul Storr. The result
keeps him in touch with the top three some seven points ahead of the
remainder. Mick Flynn gained a 3-0 win over Scott Lea to increase
the latter’s relegation fears. Mick Parker hit a 111 checkout to lead Rick Woods 2-1.
But Rick delivered a 3-2 defeat on his rival who threw away numerous chances
to win. “Quick-fire” Rob Scrupps went down 3-0 to Redvers
Dickinson as the latter showed his opponent some clinical finishing to gain a
flattering win. The final game went all the way. Mick Vinters led Kev
Dickinson 2-0 only to be hauled back to 2-2. And when Kev hit a 180 at the
start of leg five, a great escape looked on the cards. Sadly double one was
not so easy to hit and Mick gained a 3-2 success to continue a winning run
that has seen him climb into the top half of the table. John Smith’s Division Three
Matty Grant beat the leader’s average. His 14.88 saw him
beat Suzy Watson 3-0. Meanwhile, George Harness recorded a 17.10 average when
he upset Pete Johnson’s title challenge with a 2-1 win. Rob Birtwhistle recorded the division’s best average.
His 19.14 saw him to a 2-1 victory over high-flying Denis Turner. But the
latter bounced straight back to winning ways with a 3-0 success over
Christine Holmes. In an all-female encounter, Emma Grant gained a 2-1 win over
Di Jenkins a result that made Emma extremely happy as it should mean no
wooden spoons this year having won more games than the last two campaigns. Carla Slade nicknamed by all “Bambi” managed not to fall
over this week and she gained a leg in a 2-1 defeat against Don Holmes. Finally Keith Dack gained a 3-0 win over Christine
Holmes to leave the latter sadly some six points adrift from avoiding a
wooden spoon collection. |

Boston Standard Premier Division It’s taken a long while but Bob Mountain and Trev Day
got back to winning ways on Friday night in the top division. Bob gained only his third win of the season so far at
the expense of a lack-lustre and somewhat ring-rusty Simon Trigg. With both
players unable to put away that all-important double at the first attempt, it
was by no means a classic. But Bob should be encouraged by his 4-1 victory. This was followed by Trev Day recording a much-needed
fourth win thus far in his attempt to avoid the drop. He out-battled Tony
Hillyard to win sealing a 4-1 win with a 19 dart leg the best of the match. A
fortnight’s break seems to have turned Deb Royal’s fortunes around. She
gained a well-deserved double on the night, picking up 4-2 wins over Steve
Davis and Simon Trigg respectively as she begins to look something like her
old self after a dip in form. Table-topper Shane Parker escaped with a flattering 4-0
win over Dave Hasnip. There was nothing between the two in the scoring
department, but the doubles went in for Shane and astray for Dave — hence the
scoreline. Martyn Palmer kept up the pursuit at the top after he
turned the game around with Kev Lenton. After an early exchange of legs in a
1-1 scoreline, Martyn found three 17-dart legs in a row to surge to a 4-1
win. Mick Ray produced the best performance in the division
as he recorded a 25.99 average which included two 180s to beat Steve Davis
4-1, the highlight being a super 12 dart leg when Mick hit 180, 100, 121, 100
out to take the fourth leg of the match. The final game in the section saw Chris Royal still
unable to break his ever-increasing run of defeats. Up against high-flying
Ady Parker, the latter was always in control of the match and went on to win
4-1 to stay in the top four. Lincs Racing Division Two A swashbuckling effort from high-flying Mick Flynn
failed to prevent two defeats as he fell first to Rob Scrupps by a 3-2 margin
and then later in the evening to Derek Johnson by the same score. Even a 180
in the deciding leg could not stop another rare defeat. Richard Pearson produced the division’s best performance
as he remains in hot pursuit of glory. His 22.10 average and legs of 22, 23,
and 23 darts were far too good for Rob Scrupps whose bid for a win double on
the night were ended with a 3-0 reverse. Dick “Top Pocket” Taylor featured in a marathon, even
though only three legs of darts were played. It still took him 108 darts to secure a 3-0 win
over Redvers Dickinson. Paul Storr wrapped up a comfortable 3-0 win over Scott
“Banger” Lea. Scott’s challenge hit the fence early. The final game needed all five legs to find a winner as
Rick Woods belied his position to push Kev Dickinson all the way before being
felled 3-2 by a 94 checkout. John Smith’s Division Three Ady Blackham suffered a rare defeat this week as he lost out 2-1 to George Harness. George
produced a fine 16.28 average (the division’s best ) to floor the table
topper. This allowed the chasing pack to close on the leader and
Chris Ray took full advantage with a 3-0 win over Carla Slade — just what he
needed. Pete Johnson also gained ground with a 3-0 win over
Angie Upsall. Matty Grant somehow escaped with a 2-1 win over Di
Jenkins although he needed a plentiful supply of darts to find the double and
cross the winning line. Keith Dack was unfortunate to lose so heavily to Rob
Birtwhistle. Both players were at a double together, but it was Rob who hit
them all for a 3-0 win. The final game saw Richard Atwell come back from 1-0
down to win 2-1 and continue his rich vein of form — although most of his 15
wins have been 2-1 hence his mid-table position. |
