Target Premier Division WEEK three in the Shodfriars Friday Night Darts League
in Boston was kicked off by Chris Royal and Bob Mountain. The former took the opening leg, but Bob responded in the
second. However, Chris kept his momentum going and wrapped up a 4-1 win to
remain unbeaten in the Target Premier Division. Next up was Dave Hasnip who took on Graham Sharp. A
scrappy but hard-fought game ensued, Graham hitting a 180 and checked out on
28 in leg six to send it to a decider. Here Dave was the more consistent
player and checked out first dart on double 18 for a 4-3 victory. Shane Parker was in top form against Ady Parker who also
played well. But with some great legs of 16, 18, 21, 17 darts and top
finishing (including a 106) Shane quickly picked off a 4-0 win. The last game of the night was between Steve Davis and
Debra Royal. Deb started the better and took up a 2-1 lead. The games were
nip and tuck and remained that way throughout. Both had shots at doubles. It
all went down to the seventh leg which Steve took for a 4-3 win. The high finish of the night was 106 by S Parker; top
average, 27.83 S Parker; 180s on the night, one, G Sharp. Lincs Racing Division Two In Lincs Racing Division Two, Peter Silva kept his run
going when he took on Mick Parker and picked up a 3-1 win. Paul Storr was in
good form (average 18.60) and picked off a 104 finish on his way to a 3-1 win
over Dick Taylor. Mick Flynn and Rob Scrupps both played a good and
consistent match, both averaging 18-plus. But it was Mick who checked out
well and won 3-1. Kev Dickinson then took on Rick Woods in a close game. But
Nev just had the edge and took the match 3-1. J P Carney then faced Dick Taylor. This was a close up
and down match and went all the way to the deciding leg which JP took for a
3-2 victory. Damian Hatfield picked up a good 3-0 win over Redvers Dickinson.
Damien averaged 18.78 to Redvers’ 16.65. The night’s highest average was by Rob Scrupps on 18.82;
and the top checkout was 104 by Paul Storr. John Smith’s Division Three In John Smith’s Division Three, Chris Holmes and Matt
Grant were first at the oche for the night’s fixtures. Matt took the first
leg. Chris hit back well in leg two and checked out with a first dart double
10. But Matt produced a great last leg — a 14-darter, checking out on 94 in
two darts to win 2-1. The second game saw newcomer Keith Dack take on Bob
Birtwhistle. Keith’s debut was a good one as he took the opening leg in 20 darts.
Bob instantly responded and levelled. The deciding leg was close but Keith
hit a 140 at the right time and checked out quickly to pick up a winning
start 2-1 and a 20.82 average. Angie Upsall then played Dianne Jenkins in a close match
which could have gone either way. But it was Angie’s night. She picked up a
3-0 win. The next match was between Mark Mitchell and George Harness. George took the close opening leg. Mark then picked off
a 21-darter to level the match. The last leg was a good scoring game from
both players before George sealed it for a 2-1 win. A close match followed
between Ady Blackham and Chris Ray. But Chris finished well and took the
match 3-0. Pete Johnson and Emma Grant played a longish match but
only because of the finishing. Both had endless shots at doubles in the
first. Pete eventually took it. The second was a double one nightmare — 30
darts Inter, Emma levelled it. The decider was a lot better scoring and
finishing which Pete took as Emma missed her chance. Chris Holmes then returned to the oche. This time it was
against Dennis Turner. Dennis took the opener. Chris left a finish in leg two
but Dennis checked out well to lead 2-0. Dennis went up a gear in the third
and wrapped up a 3-0 win. The next clash was between Don Holmes and Richard
Atwell. It was a close match but Don just edged it with his finishing to win
3-0. The last game of the night saw Suzy Watson take on Terry
Shepherd. The first leg was steady, Suzy just edging in front. A few missed
shots at doubles nearly lost her the opening leg. Both scored a lot better in
leg two, Terry leaving 52 but Suzy check out on 36 in one dart. The last leg
was also close, but Terry got his shot at the double and didn’t miss. But it
was Suzy’s night with a 2-1 win. The night’s top average of 20-82 was by Keith Dack.
Highest checkout of 94 was by Matt Grant. |

Target Premier League SHANE PARKER this week helped to show that Boston’s top darts
players are hitting form In his Friday Night Individual League clash with
Debra Royal, he turned on a slick performance to record an impressive win. In the Target Premier Division encounter, Deb pushed him
all the way. But Shane went 1-0 up with a 17-dart leg and scored a 180 in leg
two. But he missed his double and Deb levelled at 1-1. Shane, though, increased his lead to 3-1 as he rattled
in two 18 dart legs, with checkouts on 49 and 116 leaving Deb on an out shot
both times. Deb took leg five to trail 3-2 but Shane took the match with a 19
dart leg having already missed double 16 after 13 darts. It all gave Shane a
26-15 average to Deb’s gallant 24-37 in defeat. Martyn Palmer gained his second 4-0 win in as many weeks
when Dave Hasnip let him off with
numerous missed doubles. He duly gifted Martyn two legs after scoring 100,
100, 100, 100 to leave a checkout after just 12 darts. A further 18 darts
failed to find a double. Ady Parker looks a different player this season. Gone
are the scuds flying everywhere and a new set of John Lowe implements seem to
be finding their target. It all
allowed him to leave opponent Steve Davis well snookered as Ady ran out a 4-0
winner hitting a 180 in a comfortable win. Chris Royal has taken to life in the top flight well — a
180 and a 18-dart leg the highlight in a easy 4-0 win over Trev Day. Last
year’s champion got his campaign under way belatedly against Jamie Robson.
Mick took the opening leg in 19 darts but Jamie rattled in 81, 140, 140, 100
and 40 (out) for a superb 13-dart leg to level the match at 1-1. The game moved on to 2-2 after two scrappy legs but Mick
came good again to win 4-2 with finishes on 97 and 16 .Bob Mountain toed the
oche up against Tony Hillyard. And the first four legs were tight and a 2-2
scoreline was fair but Bob lost his advantage of the throw in the next as
double 10 proved elusive. It seemed to upset Bob and Tony capitalised taking
two legs to record a 4-2 win. Kev Lenton is by
no means flash or quick but he grinds out results and he is difficult to
beat. He faced Graham Sharp and to Kev’s surprise he found himself 3-0 up as
Graham peppered the treble one far too frequently. But a 180 from Graham in
leg four kept him in the match at 3-1. Twenty-one darts later it was 3-2 as
Graham’s escape act gathered momentum. But alas it was not to be as Kev tied
it up at 4-2. The final game saw Simon Trigg push last year’s champion all the way. It was the only game to go the distance. Mick Ray knew he was in a match as Simon pelted his darts with great accuracy as they slammed and thumped into the board. Simon led for the first time at 3-2 with a 19-dart leg but he was unable to find that killer blow despite several chances coming his way. Mick levelled again and it took 26 darts in the decider to find a winner as both players once again squandered chances. Lincs Racing Division Two In Lincs Racing Division Two, a pair of Micks fought out
the night’s opening game. Mick Flynn played Mick Parker. And a tight opening
leg went to the former and a 79 checkout made it 2-0. The match was over as a
contest 21 darts later as Mick Flynn ran out a 3-0 winner — ironically only
after his rival had bust on an attempted 79 checkout to stay in the
game. Damien Hatfield had a good win up against Mick Vinters.
Damien produced the night’s best average in the division (18.58) to win 3-1.
It meant a sweet night for Damien and a sour one for Mick. Scott Lea got to the chequered flag just ahead of Rick
Woods in a marathon. Scott scraped home 3-2. Richard Pearson did well to
overcome Andy Skipworth. The latter
is now a seasoned campaigner in the individual league and Richard is only two
games into his. However it’s a winning start, two from two, as he gained a 3-2
success with a 17.02 average to Andy’s 17.19 in defeat. Mick Vinters was
back at the oche in a re-arranged game against Redvers Dickinson. Mick will learn a great deal
from his opening two matches — basically if you keep missing your doubles
eventually your opponent will hit his! This was the case as Mick saw what
should have been a 3-0 lead slip to 2-1 behind. And when the chance came his way again in leg four a
cruel bust on 88 saw any chance of a recovery gone as Redvers won
fortuitously 3-1. Pete Silva soon found himself trying to keep up with
Rob Scrupps but at five seconds a
throw he was quickly 2-0 down, but Rob burned himself out and Pedro fought
back to steal a 3-2 win to Rob’s disbelief.
Andy Skipworth got his game back to winning ways in the division’s final game. He came up against new comer Shane Wilcock. Andy produced a 17.73 average to overcome Shane’s 16.87 average by a 3-1 score line. John Smith’s Division Three In John Smith’s Division Three, Chris Ray got the action
under way against George Harness. Chris had to be at his best to overcome the
league’s most senior player. Chris hit a 19.52 average to narrowly gain a 2-1
win over George, after trailing 1-0. Chris hit a 95 checkout in the decider
for a hard fought win. Mark Mitchell was a little smartie when he failed to
melt under pressure from Ady Blackham as a marathon three legs followed as
double trouble set in. Some 126 darts later it was 3-0 to Mark. Emma Grant’s run of poor form continues and her
collection of wooden spoons could grow larger by the end of the season, she
went 1-0 up against Dennis Turner, but he quickly fought back to land a knock
out blow and win 2-1 with a 14.14 average.
Richard Atwell
made off with the bounty in his game against Terry Shepherd. Unfortunately
Terry failed to live up to his “Ruthless” nickname when it came to the double
and Richard stole a 2-1 win. Suzy Watson had no cure this week up against Don Holmes.
It was Don that skipped away to a 3-0 win, as doubles were far from “elementary”
for our dear Watson! |

Target Premier League THE opening night’s action was marred by numerous missed
doubles in all divisions of the Boston Friday Night Individual League as several
players new and old showed signs of being ring rusty! In the Target Premier League, the action got under way
with Dave “Burst-Pipe” Hasnip facing Kev “Grinder” Lenton. It took both
players a while to settle down but Dave opened up a 2-0 lead with 22 and
24-dart legs. In response to this Kev went into his usual methodical
approach and he managed to level the game at 2-2 after two marathon legs. Kev
maintained his progress to go in front for the first time in the match at
3-2, but Dave responded with the best two legs of the match drawing level in
15 darts and sealing victory 4-3 with a 17 dart leg. The next game at the oche also went the distance as Ady
“Missile” Parker and Debra “Diesel” Royal fought out a close encounter. With
the scores level at 2-2 Debra produced a 91 checkout to go in front for the
first time at 3-2. But some missed doubles allowed Ady to hit the season’s
first 180 and come back to win 4-3 with a 22.78 average. Shane “Baby-Face” Parker and Steve “Potter” Davis
followed this game. Their clash started with a 21 dart opening leg as Shane
took a 1-0 lead. But 15 darts at a double went astray in leg two which
allowed Steve to level at 1-1. Shane upped his game from that point and
rattled in three quick legs of 17, 16, and 20 darts to cap a 4-1 win with a
24.06 average. Martyn “Lefty” Palmer had no double problems in his
clash of the left handers, as he beat Graham “Kojak” Sharp with the night’s
best average, recording a 26.72 average in his 4-0 win over Graham this
despite his rival hitting a 180 who was unable to find a double as Martyn hit
17, 21, 21, and 16 dart legs. Last year’s Division Two champion Chris “the Joker”
Royal was up next against Tony “Trucker” Hillyard. Chris came away with the
usual big grin on his face as he punished Tony’s lack of a double to come
away with a 4-1 win in his first match in the top flight. The final game saw newly promoted Bob “Blue” Mountain
take on Trev “Sick-note” Day. The opening two legs were shared and it was
Trev who gained the upper hand to go on and take the match 4-1 as Bob missed
his shots at the doubles in the final three legs. Lincs Racing Division Two In Lincs Racing Division Two, Darren “Kid” Royal got the
action under way against Damien “Chop-Stick” Hatfield, Damien took the
opening leg to lead 1-0 only to see Darren fight back to produce the
division’s best average of 18.34 taking three legs on the trot and sealing
the win 3-1. Another player to come from behind was Harry “Lottery”
Lee he trailed Dick “Top-Pocket” Taylor 1-0 but fought back to gain a 3-1 win
with a 17.39 average to Dick’s 16.03 in defeat. Rob “Quick-Fire”
Scrupps wasted little time against Mick “Growler” Parker hitting 59 and 64 checkouts as he
raced into a 2-0 lead. Mick, to his credit, responded to tie the match at 2-2
with two 26 dart legs but when the chance of victory came his way double 10
was missed and Rob grabbed a 3-2 win with a 17.22 average. It was then the turn of two debutants as Peter Pedro
Silva took on Mick Flynn. Both players made a nervous start and shared the
opening two legs. Mick went on to take the match 3-1 despite a tentative
finish as missed doubles could have cost him dear. As it was, it only spoiled
his match average of 18.20 that could have been a lot higher. Paul “Supper” Storr full of confidence took on John Paul
“Judge” Carney in a battle of the young pretenders. Four tight legs were fought out in this match
with Paul coming away from the oche the happier after his 3-1 win. Scott “Banger” Lea was knocked off track by Kev
Dickinson as Kev raced to the chequered flag with a comfortable 3-0
victory. The final game in the division saw last season’s leading contender for honours Derek “Dark-Horse” Johnson take on newcomer Richard Pearson. Unfortunately for Derek his doubles were sadly astray and despite a battling performance Richard kept his nerve to win the match with a 20 dart leg as the outsider upset the favourite 3-1. John Smith’s Division Three In John Smith’s Division Three, Suzy Watson started the
new season against Richard Atwell. The scoreline did little to reflect how
close the encounter was. Suzy hit a 12.79 average to Richard’s 13.30 but it was the latter who gained a
flattering 3-0 win. It was the turn of last year’s strongest player Emma
Grant to take on Chris Holmes in an all-female clash, Christine took the
match 2-1 to leave Emma in a position that she is somewhat accustomed
to! Husband Don Holmes failed to match his wife’s winning start
as Terry Shepherd rounded up their game with a 2-1 win. Matty Grant put a
shine on his game as he polished of an out of tune Rob Birtwhistle with a
14.18 average to win 3-0. Late replacement Carla “Bambi” Slade got off to a shaky
start against fellow newcomer Diane Jenkins, but the doubles did eventually
go in and Carla led 2-0. To her credit Diane fought back with the best leg of the
match going down 2-1 in a useful start for the newcomers. Red-hot favourite Chris Ray began his quest for promotion
with the division’s top average. With the score tied at 1-1 against new comer
Mark Mitchell, Chris produced a 180 in a 20 dart leg to grab a win 2-1 with
17.27 average. The final game saw seasoned campaigner George “Britvic”
Harness make a welcome return to the division against another newcomer, Ady
Blackham. The latter led briefly before George squeezed in two 27 dart legs
to begin with a 2-1 win and a 16.52 average. |
