June 2007

Boston Wheelers

Three members of Boston Wheelers Cycling Club competed in the Spalding Cycling Club open 25-mile time-trial among a total field of 38 riders. Despite somewhat inclement conditions, the threatened rain kept away and the Boston squad impressed by collecting the overall team award.

J Struthers (Lindsey Roads) was fastest in 58 minutes 14 seconds, G Rushmore (King’s Lynn CC) recorded 58.28 and James Harness (Boston Wheelers) came home in 58.41 to head the winning team along with Paul Griffiths 1.00.39 and Dave Grayson 1.03.09 for a total team time of 3.2.29.

Pete Saint tackled a gruelling event at the weekend when he rode a 100-mile time-trial on Saturday in Derbyshire with a time of 4 hrs 5 mins followed by another 100-mile ride on Sunday in Norfolk in 4 hours 30 minutes.

The weather for the 10-mile league race on June 21 was one of the best so far this season, with 11 starters. The Saint family were well represented, with Pete having his best league ride this year with 22 minutes 48 seconds while 12-year-old Lennox achieved a personal nest of 29.59. Pippa, who is busy with exams, rode well for a 32.21. There was also a personal best from Paul Hutchinson in 24.05. Other times were: Mik Barker 29.50, Julian Cummins 27.09, Dave Grayson 24.55, Martin White 24.23 and Peter Flint 25.44. Spalding Wheelers riders Adam Ellis and Adrian Thurston did 23.45 and 28.50 respectively.

Boston Wheelers

Riders from Boston Wheelers took part in the Spalding Cycling Club’s 27-mile hilly time trial. The event attracted 40 entrants overall with the winner being J Perkins (Zenith CC) in a time of 1 hour and 56 seconds. The Boston contingent rode well to take the team award. Jim Boyle led the way in third place (1:02:35). Paul Griffiths recorded a time of 1:06:49 (fastest time in his group) while Dave Grayson was timed in at 1:08:59. Elsewhere, James Harness finished in 1:09:05 while Julian Cummins did well in his first race of the year.

Meanwhile, Boston riders also took part in the Lincolnshire Road Riders Association’s 25-mile two-up time trial around Saxilby. Dave Grayson and Paul Griffiths came fourth and claimed the fastest veterans award in a time of 1:00:09. Pete Saint and Paul Hutchinson (riding his first serious time trial) came back in 1:04:36 while James Harness recorded 1:02:58 for a solo ride after his partner Sam Tuplin of Alford Wheelers was forced to retire part-way through. Top duo was Ian Dalton and Jon Surtees (Cherry Valley) in 54 minutes 24 seconds.

Yello Velo CC

Yello Velo Cycling club riders Steve Blackbourn and Stan Meade took part in the Lincolnshire Road Riders Association’s 25-mile two-up time trial at Saxilby and completed the course in a time of 1:10:36.

February 2007

Boston Wheelers

Boston Wheelers duo Jim Boyle and Pete Saint competed in the Yorkshire Cycling Federation’s 10-mile time trial, an event held on the A64 between Tadcaster and Coppmanthorpe. Boyle bounced back to form after the disappointment of having to retire from the recent Ely Hardrider event due to a broken spoke on his bike. In the latest event, however, he won the A64 event against some good level opponents in a time of 21 minutes 5 seconds. Pete Saint also did well in achieving a speedy time of 23 minutes 2 seconds.
