Week ending
September 25:
Week two of the Lincolnshire Cyclo-Cross League was
centred at Riseholme College just north of Lincoln. In the main race of the
day a good turnout of 50 riders took the start-line for the combined senior’s,
vets and juniors event. Charlie Porter went with the front runners, closely
followed by experienced rider Martin White, while behind these two came Tom
Dymond with the rest of the team almost together for the first lap led by
Steve Blackbourn, Scott Relton, Andy Woodcock and Nigel Dymond. None of the team’s riders suffered with any mechanical
problems and despite Charlie having a small “moment” on the second lap, he
held on to be first Yello Velo rider home in 17th place, fourth in the
juniors and first counting junior rider for the Lincs League. Martin had
another solid ride to finish in 21st (the first time on a cross machine) with
Tom Dymond 31st, Steve Blackbourn 38th, Nigel Dymond 39th closely followed by
team-mate Andy Woodcock 40th after a late surge. Scott Relton was 43rd
despite suffering with a shoulder injury. The race was won once again by a visiting rider from the
Midlands with Sherwood CC junior Steven Adams producing an emphatic display
of power riding from fellow junior David Fletcher (Sherwood Pines) with VC
Lincoln’s Mark Cotton the first Lincolnshire rider home in third spot. In the youth race over 30 minutes it was once again a
small field and the race soon spread out over the one mile course. Race winner
was Sam Jackson of VC Lincoln with Paul Clarke in second and Yello Velo rider
Tom Garwell in third. Once again, the under-12s race was well supported.
Representing the Yello Velo team were Aaron Rymer and younger sister Paige as
well as Joe Sellars and Sam Relton. Aaron was once again the team’s best
finished with an impressive fourth place hotly contested with VC Lincoln’s
James Dane while Sam and Joe once again had a close race with Sam finishing
in seven and Joe in ninth while Paige, in her first race, finished 21st. |

Week ending September 18: After a busy summer programme of road racing and
mountain bike enduro races the change in the weather heralds the beginning of
the Lincolnshire cyclo cross season. And there was once again a good turnout
from the Yello Velo-Kemafit-Bodycare-Don White Cycles sponsored team. For
round one of the Lincs League series, the action was centred around the
Castle Hills schools complex in Gainsborough. First race of the day was the 30-minute youth event held
over the full adult course. And although there was only a small entry the
battle for the overall was a thrilling affair as Tom Garwell of the Yello
Velo team duelled it out with Paul Clarke of Lincoln Wheelers for the whole
duration of the race with Clarke finally getting the verdict by a few seconds
after 30 minutes of racing. In the under-12s section there was — as last season — a
bumper turnout of riders with 23 youngsters taking the start line for the
15-minute race on a simplified section of the main course. Best rider for the
Yello Velo team was Aaron Rymer in an excellent fourth place overall, while
team-mates Joseph Sellars and Sam Relton had a close race with each of them
taking the lead at one point or another. After 15 minutes of racing it was a
close thing with Joseph eighth and Sam ninth, just a few seconds adrift. The main race of the day was the 50-minute combined
seniors. Juniors and veterans race and the Yello Velo squad was once again
one of the largest there with nine riders on the start line. With drying
conditions, no one had any problem on the course that was riding
uncharacteristically quickly. Best of the Yello Velo team was new junior rider Charlie
Porter who finished in a fine 14th place, having lost a little time with a
puncture on the second lap. The previous day’s race in the Notts and Derby
League, where he came 44th at the Shipley Park course did not seem to affect
his ride this time. Second Yello Velo rider home was Martin White who came in
16th place after an uneventful race with Tom Dymond next in 21st. Steve Blackbourn had a steady start for the first two
laps but then turned on the power with a good ride through the field to
record 28th spot. James Harness, despite a crash on the first lap, finished
30th followed by new team recruit Andy Woodcock (33rd), Scott Relton (39th)
and Amy Willoughby (41st) and second lady.
Bringing up the rear for the team was club cross coach Nigel Dymond in
43rd who suffered a puncture on the penultimate lap and was forced to
complete the race on son Tom’s spare bike. Race winner was Jim Bryan of the
Ace Racing Team who, despite living in the Midlands, often comes over to race
Lincs League events. |
