REPORTS ARCHIVE 2005-2006

Week ending October 30:

LAST Sunday’s latest event in the Lincolnshire Cyclo-Cross League was run by Alford Wheelers and held at South Ormsby south of Louth. The area was a parkland on rough grassland and part roadway. And in spite of recent rain it wasn’t too muddy.

Pippa Saint of Boston Wheelers was riding for 30 minutes in the under-16s section but couldn’t match her results of the last few weeks. Having a poor ride, she had to be content with third place in the girls’ section and third in the under-14s.

Lennox Saint, however, maintained his dominance throughout the 15 minutes ride for under-12s and took his seventh consecutive win. Younger brother and sister rode the same event with Jake fighting hard to take 15th place and Briony rode well to finish in 18th position.

Club members are reminded that time is getting close for bookings for the 75th dinner and prize presentation on November 25 at the Merry Monk, Kirton. Bookings are required as soon as possible.

Week ending October 23:

The latest round of the Lincolnshire Cyclo-Cross League saw the Saint family (riding for Boston Wheelers) having more good results.

The course this time was at Winterton in North Lincolnshire, an event promoted by Hull City Road Club. And for the most of the racing duration, the riders had to cope with steady rain.

On the muddy uphill course the going was hard for everyone and in the under-16s section Pippa Saint was again fastest girl at under-14 level and second overall in the event, brought about by her good riding.

In the under-12s, her brother Lennox had a good result. The race began on a gravelled roadway leading to a sharp left turn onto a grass field. He took the lead and was going well but on the second lap he approached the turn at speed, came off and unslipping his chain, gave the chasing rider the lead.

However, Lennox chased hard and overtook the lead again to give him a clear win. Both he and Pippa are in good positions in the league so far.

Younger brother Jake is again riding well in these events and this time took 10th place while Briony finished last but one in 13th position.

Week ending October 16:

Witham Wheelers hosted the October 16 competition in the Lincolnshire Cyclo-Cross League. The event was held at Stroxton near Grantham. It was a tough course held on a hillside and the going up was hard and some chicanery coming down.

In the under-14s race Pippa Saint was the fastest girl and took second place overall. For the under-12s event entry numbers were down with only 16 riders involved. On the tough course Lennox Saint was competing up the front against top rider Ben Bailey of the West Midlands side Team Clean.

Lennox was ahead for the first 10 minutes with Ben just behind but finally for the last five minutes Ben forged ahead to win with Lennox in second place. Younger brother Jake (5) rode well to finish in 14th place.
