Boston Wheelers Cycling Club held their annual prize
presentation and dinner function at the Merry Monk in Kirton. The gathering
marked the conclusion to a year in which the club enjoyed plenty of success
in time trialling while the juniors collected some good results in the
cyclo-cross discipline.
Jim Boyle, Adam Ellis and Pete Saint took awards for fastest team in several
open events, collecting some individual premier placings along the way. In
the inter-club 25 miles contest between Boston Wheelers, Sleaford Wheelers,
Spalding CC and Yello Velo CC, they were the fastest three and brought the
shield back to Boston. They also rode together as a team in the National 50km
team trial and finished a creditable ninth against top teams in the country.
In the Lincs Road Riders Association 25-mile and 50-mile championship they
were again the fastest team.
Tim Smith and Dave Grayson had good results for their first attempt in the
LRRA 12-hour time-trial. Grayson is a hardy rider in time trials and Smith is
a younger rider. But they rode well to finish with 215 miles for Grayson and
218 for Smith.
In the junior section young Pippa Saint took up time trialling this year
after successes in cyclo-cross. In the 10-mile league she managed to get inside
an even time for the event and gained second handicap place in the league and
also landed the Arthur Rayner Trophy for ladies.
Lennox Saint has excelled in cyclo-cross for the last few years and has won
the cyclo-cross league for the fourth consecutive year in the under-12
section and next year hopes to have a go at time-trialling. The club person
of the year award was won by Beryl Dugdale.
