September 25-26

 

The final four fixtures of the South Lincolnshire & Border League season saw Sleaford claim the runners-up spot in Division One despite being bowled out for a meagre 126.  Ben Burrows hit 62 and Colin Cheer took six wickets for Boston who were then bowled out for 85, with Jonathan Miles claiming nine for 36.

 

Division Two champions Stamford went out on a high, hitting 257 for six against Spalding 2nd, Andrew Hulme with 84.  Spalding then denied the leaders maximum points by holding on to finish 133 for nine.

 

And in Division Three, Spalding 3rd celebrated an enjoyable first season in the league with a four wicket win over Timberland, Ashley Bright taking five wickets and Tom Dale hitting 90. 

Blankney consolidated their second place with a win over Grantham 2nd, Lee Allman scoring a half century.

Billingborough confirmed their dominance of Division One of the South Lincolnshire and Border League with a convincing final victory over Spalding who have enjoyed a successful first season after gaining promotion to the top flight to finish in fourth place. Below the champions there is still all to play for with Sleaford 2nd needing just four points from next Saturday’s game against Boston 2nd to snatch the runner-up slot from Lindum Ramblers who missed their chance of consolidating second place after suffering a disappointing seven wicket defeat at the hands of Belton Park. At the bottom of the table, Long Sutton 2nd finished five points behind Moulton Harrox who were put to the sword when Bourne 2nd hit 258 for five with Tom Dixon making 82. The top individual score of the day and the only century went to Steve Scott of Billingborough with 106.

 

Heckington notched up the day’s top team score in the only game played in Division Two as they made 262 for six, James Hutchinson with 93.  However Spalding 2nd kept their hopes of escaping bottom place alive by ending on 184 for eight.  Spalding now need to take the full 20 points in their final game next Saturday when they face the might of division champions Stamford.

 

Stamford 2nd crowned a successful first season in the league by taking the Division Three title after a nine wicket win over second placed Blankney who now need eight points from next weekend’s match against Grantham 2nd to wrest the runners-up slot away from North Luffenham who convincingly beat fourth placed Baston. At the bottom of the table, Timberland also have one fixture remaining, at home to Spalding 3rd who could move up to eighth place should they seal their sixth victory of the season.

With one game remaining, Billingborough sealed the South Lincolnshire & Border League championship with a nine-wicket victory over Woodhall Spa 2nd, Mark Joyce taking five wickets to bring his tally for the season to 57 and Dave Newman hitting 75.

Challengers Lindum Ramblers also won but could only pick up 18 points against Boston 2nd and could still be overtaken in the runners-up slot by Sleaford 2nd who beat Belton Park by eight wickets after James Rickett had taken six for 27. Long Sutton were consigned to last place after losing to Bourne 2nd while the game between Grantham and Moulton Harrox was rained off, giving Moulton the five points that would guarantee survival in the top division.

 

Sleaford Sunday ended their season on a high note with victory over Welby to finish runners-up in Division Two behind clear winners Stamford, with Cavaliers holding on to third place despite losing to Heckington.

 

And Stamford 2nd cleared their first hurdle in their race for the Division Three championship with a convincing win over North Luffenham and now need just three points from next week’s game against second placed Blankney to take top place. Baston moved up to third with a six wicket win over Claypole

Billingborough and Lindum Ramblers stay locked in battle at the top of Division One of the South Lincolnshire and Border League following victories over Bourne 2nd and Woodhall Spa 2nd respectively. Ramblers gained two points on Billingborough but still trail the leaders by 21 points while at the bottom of the table, an unexpected win for Moulton Harrox over fourth placed Spalding moved them above Long Sutton who lost to Belton Park.

 

A nail biting game in Division Two saw Heckington scrape home by just one wicket after bowling Spalding 2nd out for only 58, Damon Tunnicliffe taking five wickets for Heckington while Heath Ripley claimed eight for Spalding.  Sean Chamberlain also took eight wickets for Skegness in their victory over Welby. Ropsley suffered mixed fortunes, going down to leaders Stamford on Saturday, only to beat second placed Sleaford on Sunday while Cavaliers stayed third, continuing their run of victories by beating local rivals Thomas Cook.

 

Claypole enjoyed an excellent weekend, moving up to fourth in the Division Three table after overcoming Burgh & District on Saturday followed by Moulton Harrox on Sunday.

North Luffenham closed the gap on second placed Blankney with a seven wicket victory over their rivals while Grantham 2nd, who had waited so long for a victory, made it two in a row when they beat Timberland, Harry Nichols hitting the day’s only century with 105 not out.

Billingborough retained their lead at the top of South Lincolnshire and Border League Division One, beating Moulton Harrox by seven wickets while challengers Lindum Ramblers scored a 93 run win over Long Sutton. Sleaford slipped further behind the top two after losing to Bourne 2nd, for whom Xanti Xipu took five wickets while fourth placed Spalding moved closer to the top three with a win over Woodhall Spa 2nd in a match reduced to 60 overs after a rain delayed start.

 

At the bottom of Division Two, Spalding 2nd went down by just two wickets to Skegness 2nd for whom Sean Chamberlain who took seven wickets and hit 65 runs.  Boston 3rd scored a welcome eight wicket win over Heckington while Ropsley went down to Billingborough 2nd.

 

There were celebrations at Grantham as the 2nd XI recorded their first win of the season in Division Three, beating Timberland by eight wickets to go above their opponents. North Luffenham moved up to third after beating Long Sutton 2nd while Blankney kept up their challenge with a win over Baston.

Only one game was completed in each of South Lincolnshire and Border League Divisions One and Three, but a result was achieved in all four games in Division Two.

 

In the top flight, Bourne bowled Woodhall Spa out cheaply, for 51, and went on to win by nine wickets before the rain came.  And in Division three, Spalding 3rd also won their Sunday game against Moulton Harrox by nine wickets.

 

Billingborough and Lindum Ramblers both picked up 10 points from their rained off fixtures to retain the status quo at the top.

Cavaliers moved into third place in Division Two following their victory over Boston 3rd in which Jamie Hayes took six for 12 for the Peterborough side.  However, Welby are only two behind in fourth after new singing Simon Godby took six for 14 including a hat trick against his old club Billingborough.

 

Thomas Cook slipped to fifth after going down to second placed Sleaford Sunday for whom 18 year old Tom Mapletoft took a magnificent nine for 34. And Ropsley moved further away from the relegation zone with victory over Heckington. In the abandoned game at Stamford 2nds, Tom Williams scored an unbeaten 118 and Simon Prentice 98 as the home side reached 302 for two then reduced Baston to 58 for four before rain stopped play.

Only five matches were possible in the South Lincolnshire and Border League due to heavy downpours, two of which were Sunday games.

 

However, the top two in Division One both managed to complete their games, Lindum Ramblers beating Bourne by 44 runs and leaders Billingborough overcoming Sleaford 2nd by the much closer margin of 11 runs.

 

In Division Two’s only game, Spalding 2nd gave their chances of avoiding demotion a boost when they won a nail-biter against Sleaford Sunday who failed by just three runs to reach their target of 148.

 

And Stamford 2nd went further ahead at the top of Division Three, beating Timberland by five wickets while Moulton Harrox Sunday beat off the challenge of Burgh & District to win by three wickets.

 

Division 1: Lindum Ramblers 140, Bourne 2nd 96; Billingborough 190-9 (Scott 56), Sleaford 179-9.

 

Division 2: Spalding 2nd 148-9, Sleaford Sunday 145 (Eyett 5-30).

Billingborough maintained their lead at the top of South Lincolnshire & Border League Division One with a win over Grantham while Sleaford 2nd and Lindum Ramblers kept up their challenge for honours by beating Long Sutton and Spalding respectively. But it was the mid-table game between Market Deeping 2nd  and Belton Park that produced the highest scoring fixture of the day, Deeping reaching 250 for six, a total Belton overtook for the loss of five wickets. Boston 2nd’s Liam Aggett scored the division’s only century in a tight game at Bourne 2nd that saw the home side fall 14 short of their opponents’ total of 210.

 

There was another century for a Boston team in Division Two where Dave Gilding hit an unbeaten 103 of the 3rd XI’s score of 197 for four against Skegness 2nd. John Morris then took five Skegness wickets to help bowl the seasiders out for 143.

Ropsley improved their chances of survival with a victory over Thomas Cook while Cavaliers beat Heckington to move into fourth, just two behind their fellow Peterborough side. And Stamford marched on at the top after beating Welby, who slip to fifth.

 

In Division Three, Spalding 3rd scored the shock result of the day, beating leaders Stamford 2nd by four wickets, then on Sunday went on to claim another four wicket win over Moulton Harrox Sunday. Blankney came out the victors against Long Sutton 2nd to move above their opponents into second but North Luffenham and Baston, in fourth and fifth, both have games in hand and are in a good position to attack the top three teams following their wins over Grantham 2nd and Timberland respectively.

Billingborough cemented their place at the top of South Lincolnshire & Border League Division One with a seven wicket win over Belton Park, Mark Joyce just falling short of his 1000 run target but taking his wicket haul to 38 with a tally of five for 27. Billingborough now lead Sleaford 2nd by 20 points with Lindum in third after going down to Sleaford by three wickets and Spalding still in fourth following their seven wicket victory over Bourne 2nd. Long Sutton won the bottom of the table battle, beating Moulton Harrox by 34 runs.

 

In Division Two. Stamford opened up a big gap over Sleaford Sunday when they defeated their close rivals on Sunday after beating Thomas Cook on Saturday. Matt Orrey (4-11) and Mike Whatton (4-12) shared the first eight wickets as Welby recorded a club record performance with the ball bowling Billingborough 2nds out for 27 to win by 110 runs and stay in third place. Cavaliers excellent season continued with a win over Spalding 2nd while Heckington’s James Hutchinson put in a man of the match performance with an innings of 98 and a haul of seven wickets for five runs to give his side victory over Skegness 2nd.

 

Stamford 2nd now have a comfortable lead at the top of Division Three following their top of the table victory over Long Sutton 2nd, Neil Williams making the only century of the day with 122 and Jonny Williams taking five for six. This allowed Blankney, who beat Claypole, to move into second place above Long Sutton.

Moulton Harrox, bottom of South Lincolnshire and Border League Division One, pulled off the surprise result of the weekend, inflicting a seven wicket defeat on second placed Sleaford 2nd, Colin Saville taking five Sleaford wickets and Jack Barnett hitting an unbeaten 88 for Moulton. This allowed Lindum Ramblers to take over in second place after their victory over Market Deeping for whom John McDougall hit an unbeaten 104, while Billingborough stay top having beaten Boston 2nd, Mark Joyce making the day’s top score of 124. Martin Parmley also scored a ton as Grantham beat Bourne. Spalding stay fourth and Belton Park fifth, both coming out on top against Long Sutton and Woodhall Spa 2nd respectively.

 

In Division Two, Cavaliers bowled Sleaford Sunday out cheaply and went on to win by seven wickets, allowing Stamford to open up a 17 point gap at the top following their victory over Welby, Josh Prentice hitting 118 not out and Liam Dave 92 for Stamford before David Piggott claimed six Welby wickets. Thomas Cook moved into third above Welby with an eight wicket victory over Boston 3rd while Spalding 2nd won the battle at the bottom of the table with a three wicket win over Ropsley.

 

Long Sutton 2nd suffered a blow to their Division Three championship hopes when they went down to Baston by just two wickets while leaders Stamford 2nd were coasting to a nine wicket win over Burgh & District. And North Luffenham continued their progress up the table with a win over Spalding 3rd but have Claypole, who beat Grantham 2nd, in hot pursuit. The tightest game of the day was on Sunday at Moulton Harrox where third placed Blankney were bowled out for 160, only for their opponents to lose their last wicket three runs short of their target.

Billingborough moved to the top of Division One of the South Lincolnshire & Border League following a low scoring victory over former leaders Lindum Ramblers. And Sleaford 2nd took advantage of this result to go into second after beating Boston 2nd by more than 150 runs. However, the title race is still wide open with just five points separating these top three – and Sleaford with a game in hand on their rivals. Behind them, Spalding kept up their challenge, beating Grantham by seven wickets while Bourne 2nd overcame Belton Park. Moulton Harrox stay bottom after going down to Market Deeping despite Jack Barnett’s five wicket haul with Long Sutton still one above them having been beaten by Woodhall Spa 2nd. Sleaford’s Luke Endley scored division one’s only century, hitting an unbeaten 108.

 

In Division Two, Stamford and Sleaford Sunday continued their battle for honours, both gaining victories over Boston 3rd and Heckington respectively. Welby also kept up their challenge after Michael Whatton’s seven wickets and five dismissals by wicketkeeper Brian Spence saw off Spalding 2nd while Thomas Cook moved to within one point of Welby with a convincing victory over Billingborough 2nd who had been challenging for fourth place. Cavaliers got back to winning ways, Dave Robinson making 91 and Geoff Church taking five wickets in the win over Skegness 2nd for whom Steve O’ Dare took five wickets.

 

While only nine points separate Division Three top teams Stamford 2nd and Long Sutton 2nd, these two have opened up a gap over the remaining teams.  Stamford celebrated a seven wicket win over Grantham 2nd while Long Sutton bowler James Baker took four wickets in one over, including a hat trick, in the victory over Claypole. Jack Barnett hit the second century of the weekend with an unbeaten 122 for Moulton Harrox Sunday who beat Timberland.

There was little change in Division One of the South Lincolnshire & Border League as all the top sides won, with Sleaford notching up the highest total of the day of 311 for four declared, of which Glen Robinson hit 102 and Matthew Mountain 117. James Rickett then took six for 53 as opponents Woodhall Spa 2nd were bowled out for 170. Mark Joyce added another 97 runs to his total, which now stands at 768 and Ben Smith made 43 in Billingborough’s 252 for seven before Jon Lamyman took six for 55 to help bowl Long Sutton out for 103. Leaders Lindum Ramblers failed to take Grantham’s last wicket as the home side hung on for 143 for nine after being set a target of 270, Gary Gratrick making 62 for Ramblers. Belton Park stay fourth following a close game against Moulton Harrox and Spalding remain fifth after a match winning performance from Ansar Hussain who took six wickets and hit an unbeaten 81 against Boston 2nd.

 

Stamford moved within one point of Division Two leaders Sleaford 2nd after winning their game in hand by just 14 runs.  Liam Dave made 66 as Stamford set Skegness a target of 194 only to see their opponents reach 180 for eight before the overs ran out. Welby defeated Cavaliers to stay third withThomas Cook moving back up to fourth after beating Ropsley to push Billingborough 2nd down to fifth.

 

At Claypole, Long Sutton 2nd swept to their sixth victory in succession in Division Three as James Baker claimed his second five wicket haul in two weeks.  This run has taken Sutton to second in Division Three behind Stamford who defeated Grantham 2nd. Blankney stay third following victory over Spalding 3rd  and Claypole are fourth, closely pursued by North Luffenham who beat Moulton Harrox Sunday by six wickets despite Jack Barnett’s innings of 113 for Moulton.

Lindum Ramblers stay top of South Lincolnshire & Border League Division One after defeating Belton Park 2nd who, despite seeing their challenge for honours fade in recent weeks, still lie fourth. Billingborough are now second following a high scoring match that saw three centuries.  Mark Joyce took his total of runs for the season to 671 with an innings of 146 with Dave Newman hitting 100 as Billingborough rattled up 329 for two.  Ansar Hussain then made 110 for Spalding who, despite Roy Tilley’s five-wicket haul, reached 231 for eight at the close. Lower down the table, Nick Andrews of Market Deeping made the game against Long Sutton his own as he hit 100 runs out of Deeping’s 179 then took six wickets to help bowl Sutton out for 100. And Moulton Harrox went down to Bourne 2nd while Boston 2nd overcame Woodhall Spa 2nd.

 

Stamford kept up their challenge for Division Two honours when Bryan Bennett took seven wickets for eight runs to dismiss Heckington for 24, a total Stamford overtook for the loss of two wickets. Welby got their season back on track with a win over Spalding 2nd, Alistair Symondson taking six wickets, and Thomas Cook stayed fourth after beating Boston 3rd, for whom Herbert Ushewokunze hit 99. Cavaliers slipped down to eighth after losing to Billingborough 2nd who are now fifth while Ropsley lost to Skegness 2nd.  Skegness then went on to inflict a surprise defeat on runaway leaders Sleaford Sunday, hitting 248 for eight and bowling their opponents out for 61.  This leaves Stamford 19 points behind the leaders with a game in hand.

 

Long Sutton 2nd made the biggest leap in Division Three, James Baker’s five wickets helping to bowl Blankney out for 85. Sutton then lost eight wickets overtaking this modest total to move up to second.  However, Blankney recovered on Sunday to get the better of Moulton Harrox by 125 runs, Paul Woodcock hitting an unbeaten 103. Stamford 2nd consolidated their top place, while Claypole lost by just nine runs to North Luffenham but stay third. Burgh & District moved up to fourth after winning a high scoring game at Grantham 2nd, for whom the results may have been different had they not given away 51 extras.

Lindum Ramblers stay top of Division One of the South Lincolnshire and Border League despite being denied maximum points by Boston who hung on to their last wicket, while Billingborough go second following the highest scoring game of the day against Woodhall Spa 2nd. Billingborough clocked up a massive 355 for the loss of only one wicket, Mark Joyce making an ubeaten 183, Dave Newman hitting 73 and David Gollop 75 not out.  But Woodhall were also in batting mood, Ben Percival with 55 and Ben McCarrick’s unbeaten 87 taking his side to 214 for five at the close. Belton Park dropped to fourth after going down to Sleaford 2nd while at the bottom, Moulton Harrox’ woes continued as they went down to Grantham and Long Sutton stay just one above them following defeat by Bourne 2nd.

 

Stamford ended Cavaliers’ good run in Division Two, defeating the Peterborough team by 10 wickets while Heckington took over third place, unseating opponents Welby with a six wicket win, a victory helped by Nathan Thompson’s five wickets, which included a hat trick. Thomas Cook leapfrogged over Welby and Cavaliers to move back into fourth place after winning a low scoring game against Skegness 2nd and at the bottom of the table, Spalding 2nd celebrated their first win of the season when they defeated Boston 3rd by eight wickets.

 

Stamford 2nd stayed top of Division Three, beating North Luffenham by seven wickets while Claypole moved back into second, having notched up 279 before bowling Blankney out for 60, Christian Lennon taking six for 37. Long Sutton 2nd continued their good run with a win over Spalding 3rd and now lie third but at the bottom, Grantham 2nd are still looking for their first victory of the season after going down to Burgh & District for whom Andrew Sylvester took fove the 30 then hit an unbeaten 60 to help his team climb to fourth.

It was all change yet again at the top of South Lincolnshire and Border League Division One as Lindum Ramblers caught up their game in hand and, with two victories on successive days, took over at the top. On Saturday, Luke Robinson scored the league’s only century, hitting 123 of Ramblers’ total of 310-7 in their victory over Woodhall Spa 2nd.  And in a much lower scoring match on Sunday, the Lincoln side beat Moulton Harrox by 39 runs despite an excellent knock of 61 from Moulton’s Matt Barnett. This puts Lindum nine ahead of Belton Park and Billingborough who are neck and neck in second place after victories over Long Sutton and Bourne 2nd respectively. Alan Ward took seven for 27 for Belton as Long Sutton were bowled out for 53 chasing 208 while Billingborough won by five wickets in a low scoring game. Michael Agard is proving to be a good signing for Grantham, hitting 71 runs and taking five wickets in his side’s victory over Boston 2nd which moved them up to sixth place in the table.

 

Sleaford Sunday maintained their lead in Division Two, beating bottom side Spalding 2nd who had also gone down the previous day to Stamford, who stay in contention with the top side after Chris Bore made the division’s top total of 81. Welby moved back into third while Cavaliers took over in fourth, beating close rivals Thomas Cook to make it three wins in a row.

 

Stamford 2nd moved to the top of Division Three after a convincing win over former leaders Claypole and Baston took the opportunity to go second when they beat North Luffenham by 120 runs. Blankney are now fourth following their victory over Burgh & District. And there was an excellent performance from 15 year old Jake Burton who was the division’s top bowler, taking six for 23 as Long Sutton scored a nine wicket win over Timberland to move up to sixth.

Spalding took over once again at the top of South Lincolnshire and Border League Division One after last week’s leaders Belton park went down to a surprise defeat by Boston 2nd and Sleaford 2nd were beaten by Bourne 2nd . Sleaford now lie equal fourth with Lindum Ramblers who beat Long Sutton while Billingborough overcame Moulton Harrox to go third, Mark Joyce recording the day’s top score with an unbeaten 140. Martin Parmley scored the division’s only other century with 103 not out as Grantham got the better of Market Deeping 2nd to move within two points of their opponents. Two bowlers celebrated six wickets, Grantham’s Michael Agard with six for 32 and Mick Troops who took six for 45 for Boston.

 

In Division Two, Jamie Hayes too five for 29 to give Cavaliers victory in successive weeks and move them up to fifth.  Welby got back to winning ways, and into third place, with victory over Boston 3rd after Billingborough 2nd went down to Heckington by four wickets. Thomas Cook moved up to fourth with a win over high-flying Sleaford Sunday who were pegged back to 128 for eight after their opponents had set a first innings total of 174 for nine despite a six wicket haul for Luke Endley.

 

Andy Flynn was Division Three’s only centurion, his 103 taking Stamford 2nd into fifth above opponents Burgh & District who reached 175 for five chasing Stamford’s 254 for three.

Claypole easily won the top of the table clash with Timberlands while Baston continued their good start to the season, Tim Dyer the day’s top bowler with seven for 17 in the victory over Blankney. North Luffenham renewed their challenge for honours with a convincing win over Moulton Harrox Sunday and Long Sutton 2nd received a welcome boost to their battle to leave the bottom teams behind when they beat Spalding 3rd, James Wright falling four short of his century.

Belton Park moved to the top of Division One of the South Lincolnshire & Border League after a 54 run victory over Grantham while Spalding got back to winning ways with a tight two wicket win over Moulton Harrox to stay in third behind Sleaford 2nd who were without a game. Billingborough continued their climb up the table, beating Market Deeping by five wickets to go fourth, with Deeping now in fifth. Boston 2nd won the battle of the teams lower down the table with a 61 run win over Long Sutton 2nd for whom Tim Norris just missed out on his century, finishing unbeaten on 94 when the final wicket fell. And Bourne 2nd picked up their second win of the season, beating Woodhall Spa 2nd by six wickets.

 

Sleaford Sunday continue to dominate Division Two, beating Ropsley despite Matt Stock’s knock of 81 but Stamford kept up their challenge in a high scoring match against Skegness. Chris Bore was out four short of his century and Liam Dave added another 89 to his growing total as Stamford finished on 277 for seven.  But Skegness put up a good fight, Reece Brant hitting 80 of his side’s final total of 220 all out. Both Peterborough sides are enjoying a good season, Thomas Cook dealing Welby’s title hopes a knock with a 73 run victory while Cavaliers chased Boston 3rd’s 207 for eight to win by four wickets. Welby slipped to fourth following this defeat, allowing Billingborough 2nd to move into third following their six run win over Spalding 2nd.

 

Division Three provided the highlights of the day with a hat trick, two six wicket hauls and a century. Matt Taylor took the hat trick as Spalding 3rd were bowled out for 60, a total Claypole overtook for the loss of two wickets. And Chris Simms hit an unbeaten 102 for Stamford 2nd to help them to their second victory of the season. Stamford made 253 for five, Gary Peck contributing 67, before Long Sutton 2nd were bowled out for 149. Two players sharing the same name returned the best bowling figures of the day – Neil Gilbert of Blankney took six for 24 against Grantham 2nd while Timberland’s Adam Gilbert bagged six for 50 as his side won the battle for the top of the table, beating North Luffenham by three wickets.  Burgh & District staying fourth after a four wicket win over Baston.

Saturday’s South Lincolnshire and Border League programme again fell foul of the weather with only three games taking place.  However, the day proved notable for Heckington’s 16 year old batsman Dom Kew who scored his maiden half century in his club’s Division Two victory over Thomas Cook. In a game reduced to 30 overs a side, Heckington chased down Thomas Cook’s 116 for seven to win by eight wickets, Kew unbeaten on 51.

 

On Sunday, Heckington almost made it a double success when, having restricted Division Two leaders Sleaford Sunday to 177 for eight at London Road, the visitors lost their last wicket just 13 runs short of their target, Nathan Thompson hitting 50 while for Sleaford  Paul Roberts also made 50.

 

In Division Three, despite a reduction to 36 overs a side, Baston rattled up 200 for four against Spalding 3rd, Guy Cunningham falling just four short of his century.  In reply, Spalding were out for 136 in the 32nd over of their innings. It was the bowlers who dominated in the only other game played, James Wright taking five for nine in just seven overs for Long Sutton in their victory over Grantham 2nd.  At the other end, Gary Burton only two and a half overs but finished with four for eight, his four wickets coming in just five balls. Grantham were all out for 44 and Long Sutton lost three wickets before overtaking this total. Against Moulton Harrox Sunday the following day, Grantham were all out for 107, Max Cusack taking five wickets.  Jack Barnett then scored 53 to help his side to an eight-wicket win.

Market Deeping’s brief reign at the top of South Lincolnshire & Border League Division One ended with defeat by Belton Park who moved up into second place in the table while Sleaford 2nd took over as leaders following victory over Long Sutton 2nd. Former Caythorpe player and league junior batting winner Jamie Redmile made a welcome return to the South Lincs & Border with an innings of 63 to help Belton Park to their three wicket win. Deeping slipped to third while Lindum Ramblers win over Spalding kept them in fourth with Spalding going down to fifth.  Luke Robinson, another up and coming junior, hit 76 for Rambers. Mark Joyce enjoyed an excellent day for Billingborough, taking six Grantham wickets then hitting an unbeaten 65 to see his side home to an eight wicket win that moved them up to sixth. Woodhall Spa and Boston also picked up welcome points with victories over Moulton Harrox and Bourne 2nd respectively.

 

Sleaford Sunday stay top of Division Two with Stamford and Welby fighting it out for second place, John Morley hitting one of only two centuries with an unbeaten 101 which gave Stamford the day’s overall top total of 321 for five to overwhelm Heckington who were out for 175. Welby meanwhile were also among the runs, making 245 for nine and restricting Ropsley to 175 for six. But it was Thomas Cook who were involved in the tightest game of the weekend as, having been bowled out for a modest 128 by Spalding 2nd, they took their opponents’ last wicket on 127.

 

North Luffenham inflicted a heavy defeat on Grantham 2nd to stay top of Division Three but have Timberland breathing down their necks after the village side overcame Claypole despite Dan Sullivan making the days highest total of 102 not out. However, Claypole hung on to third place after Burgh & District were well beaten by Blankney.

Bottom of the table Bourne 2nd pulled off the result of the day in South Lincolnshire & Border League Division One when they defeated early leaders Spalding by nine runs in a low scoring game. This consigned Boston 2nd to the foot of the table after defeat by Market Deeping 2nd who moved to the top, just above Sleaford 2nd who had an eight run win over close rivals Lindum Ramblers. Belton Park continued their good run with a three wicket victory over Moulton Harrox while the highest score of the day was claimed by Billingborough who shrugged off their poor start to the season with an innings of 338 for three - Dave Newman hitting 158 and Mark Joyce 101 - before bowling Long Sutton out for 158.

 

Division Two produced the closest game of the day as Spalding chased Cavaliers’ 179 for eight – and finished just one run short on 178 for nine, thanks to a run out off the last ball of the innings.  Two players dominated this game, Jamie Hayes hitting 53 and taking three wickets for Cavaliers while Jim Clarke made 65 and claimed four wickets for Spalding 2nd. Liam Dave of Stamford hit the day’s highest score of 162 and Brett Bennett took five for nine as the division two leaders marched on against Thomas Cook and Ropsley moved off the bottom of the table with victory over Boston 3rd.

 

Claypole took over at the top of Division Three with a seven wicket win in a low scoring game against Stamford 2nd after Matt Taylor had taken five for 21, which included a hat trick of the last three Stamford wickets. And Burgh & District continued their good run with a seven-wicket victory over Long Sutton 2nd.

Just one game was played over the weekend in the South Lincolnshire and Border League, with every Saturday game washed out. On Sunday, Sleaford Sunday hosted Boston in a Division Two match and swept to a seven-wicket victory that took them to the top of the table above Welby. All other matches in the league were abandoned due to rain.

For the second week running, Belton Park were involved in the tightest game in Division One of the South Lincolnshire and Border League as they beat Bourne by just eight runs. Ramblers also made it two wins out of two with a comprehensive 90 run victory at Billingborough where John Gratrick hit 57 and Rohan Perera and Matt Benson followed up with five wickets each, but Market Deeping’s run was ended by Moulton Harrox who won by three wickets. Half centuries from Richard Tomlin and Rob Noble helped Sleaford 2nd to victory over newly promoted Spalding and there were five wicket hauls for Luke Hollingworth of Sleaford, Boston’s Paul Deans, Darren Nicholson of Grantham, who beat Boston, and John Temperton of Woodhall Spa 2nd who lost to Long Sutton.

 

Skegness 2nd were in action twice in Division Two, beating Cavaliers on Saturday but going down to Sleaford Sunday the next day after successfully defending a modest 129 for six. Welby inflicted a heavy defeat on Heckington and Thomas Cook bounced back from last weekend’s defeat to beat Billingborough 2nd.

 

In Division Three, Chris White took five wickets as North Luffenham bowled Spalding 3rd out for 87 and went on to win by six wickets while fellow newcomers Burgh & District went down to Long Sutton 2nd despite and excellent spell of bowling from Andrew Sylvester who took six for 18 off 12 overs. Blankney’s first game of the season brought victory over Stamford 2nd and there were also wins for Claypole who beat Baston with Steven Ryder hit the day’s top score of 66, and for Timberland for whom Cameron Donald took four wickets and hit an unbeaten 48.

A full programme in South Lincolnshire & Border League Division One saw newly promoted Market Deeping 2nd make it two wins in a row with victory over Bourne 2nd while Spalding got the better of Boston 2nd, both sides also new to the division. But the closest game of the day was at Belton Park where the home side were all out for 202, only for Billingborough to fall only three short of that total with just one wicket remaining. Barry Stanway produced the day’s best bowling figures with eight for 30 in Long Sutton’s seven wicket win over Moulton Harrox and Jamie Juckes took seven for 32 for Spalding.

 

Stamford’s Division Two campaign has got off to the best possible start with three wins out of three, two of them over the weekend.  On Saturday it was an eight-wicket win over Ropsley, while Sunday’s victims were Sleaford. Billingborough 2nd, also newly promoted, saw off the challenge of a depleted Cavaliers team while Welby inflicted a heavy defeat on Thomas Cook, bowling them out for 39.

 

League newcomers North Luffenham staged a Division Three run fest at the Oval, hitting a huge 319 for four, Jonny White scoring the only century of the day with 113.  However, Long Sutton 2nd denied their opponents maximum points, reaching 146 for seven at the close. And Burgh and District took on Spalding 3rd, both new admissions to the league, and came away with a nine wicket win.

A handful of matches in the South Lincolnshire and Border League prior to the start of the full programme this weekend, produced good results for Division One’s newly promoted teams.

Market Deeping 2nd marked their return to the top division with a close, two wicket victory over Long Sutton while Spalding, enjoying their first season in the top flight, overcame Grantham by six wickets.

 

In Division Two, Stamford fell foul of a strong Boston 3rd team, both sides having come up into the division in 2010, while Sleaford Sunday, who won the division last year, saw off Welby by seven wickets.

 

Stamford 2nd, who joined Division Three this season, got off to a good start with a seven wicket win over Moulton Harrox.

 

Spalding’s first team are in action again this weekend, against another newly-promoted side Boston 2nd while Market Deeping have a local derby away at Bourne 2nd and Long Sutton take on Moulton Harrox at Paradise Field. Division One runners-up Billingborough begin their challenge for honours with a trip to Belton Park, third placed Lindum Ramblers are at home to Grantham and Woodhall Spa 2nd entertain Sleaford 2nd.

 

In Division Two, Stamford have another home game, this time against Ropsley, then fact Sleaford on Sunday while Billingborough 2nd, also newly promoted, get their season underway at home to Cavaliers.  The only other game in this division is Welby v Thomas Cook.

 

Three of the four newcomers to Division Three are in action with Spalding 3rd and Burgh & District meeting at Spalding while North Luffenham host Long Sutton 2nd.  On Sunday, Claypole travel to Moulton Harrox for their first game of the season.
