Another Boston Night Cricket League season has reached its conclusion for another year. After one of the worst Mays for a few years, things improved in June and everyone enjoyed some warm weather and some good cricket. The first of the three cup finals was held at the beginning of June when Black Bull beat Ship Tavern in the Shipstone Cup. This game is also played in memory of Rick Cross and his parents present the Rick Cross man of the match trophy. This season it went to Jon Lamyman of the Black Bull. The league came to a climax in the last week of July when three teams were in line for the title. Boston Pilgrims played Black Bull and beat them in convincing style, while Mayflower beat Fogarty’s in their final league game, thus resulting in a two-way tie for the league with Boston Pilgrims and Mayflower losing only one league game each. The final of the Economy 7 Trophy was played in wet and overcast conditions between Boston Pilgrims and Mayflower. It is played with a minimum of eight bowlers delivering two overs each. Boston Pilgrims came out the victors by eight wickets. Man of the match was Nic Stone (Boston Pilgrims). The Boston Imps Challenge Cup (formerly Norprint Cup) saw the finalists come from the bottom four teams in the league. This year the finalists were Ship Tavern and K and K Windows. Like the Economy 7 Trophy, this is contested with each team having minimum of eight bowlers having two overs each. Ship Tavern were the victors by 30 runs, Ian Mills making 97 not out off only 44 balls, earning him the man of the match award. . |
