Week ending February 24:

Miko Coffee (East Midlands) Division One

Playing a double fixture, the Eastenders — chasing Cosmos in the title race — were matched against the Freelanders and Rustics. And in total they pocketed a total of 10 points from a possible 12.

The Eastenders’ one setback came when Freelanders’ set of Bryan Sharpe, Vic Murtough and Jeff Nicholson won 15-10 to take two points.

A40 also played a double week and also saw two points drift away in their clashes with Swineshead and IBC. It was the Swineshead set of Janet Vinter, Pam Dawson and Bob Thompson who did the damage when winning on the final end to secure an 11-10 win thanks to a superb last bowl from their skip. Elsewhere, Bex Field, Sarah McKay and Mick Aslen suffered defeat. Next up, Swineshead appeared disappointed to only take two points from their match against Jolly Farmers, the overall result being lost by just one shot.

Swineshead’s winning rink against A40 again did the business with a 12-7 win. But the Farmers’ strongest rink of Shirley Moore, Ken Rawlings and Joe Moore won 18-12 which proved just enough to get over the line.

Holland Fen overpowered Crusaders with rink wins of 25-7 and 28-6.

Carlton Road versus Invaders saw the Road set of Phil Harris, John Benton and Alan Coupland edge to a narrow 17-14 win. Pete Clark, Chris Gill and Geoff Parker cruised to a 19-7 success.

Kirton Town’s strongest rink were on a rest week. But the team still took all the points from Stickney. Janey Tomlin, Ann Kemp and Peter Tracey won 20-11 while Ann Thomas, Sheila Tracey and Tony Kemp were victorious by a margin of 16-7.

Boston Electrical Services Division Two

The leaders, Stumpers picked up their first maximum pointrs haul for a number of weeks, albeit only against basement side BBC. The lower team’s set of Mike Campion, Sue Upsall and Mu Watson put in a fighting performance when they led 11-10 at five ends against Pete Myers, Norman Bush and Bernard Skelton. But the leaders’ set pulled out all the stops and recovered to win 17-14. Stumpers’ other rink of Gerry Myers, Denis Robins and Ken Bycroft had no problems in winning 22-7.

Second team, the Breakaways found fifth placed Strollers in good form and managed to win only two points. Doing well for the Strollers were Dave France, Mick Hippisley and Keith Swain who won 21-10. Replying for Breakaways were Eileen Brown, Ivor Brown and Ted Benton. They staged a great recovery having trailed 10-1 early on and 14-13 later in proceedings before winning 18-14.

The Gang, in third spot, also picked up only two points. Matched against the Feathers, David Tebbs, Yvonne Busby and Denis Tebbs won 19-14 but Ken Rochford, Mick Roberts and Ivan Dilley fell 25-6 to Beryl Brewster, Tony Dawson and Sheila Dawson for Feathers.

Royal Mail picked up all six points at the expense of Parthians. Skips Keith Sharp and Keith Thorlby triumphed 17-11 and 12-10 respectively.

Norprint have gone back to their early season form and are finding points hard to win. Matched against Patriarchs, they fell 18-8 and 16-12 to the latter’s skips Alan Bristow and Ray Woods.

Butchers and Woodhall shared the rink points but Butchers’ set of Tina Reeson, Geoff Dawson and Dave Gill secured the aggregate with a win of 17-1. Replying for Woodhall, Tom Richardson, with Richard Whitaker and Alan Eastgate won

15-12 — a good recovery as the Butchers had been 13-3 down.

Vikings have been somewhat inconsistent this season. But this week they produced a good result against high-flying Shunters, For the latter, Mathew Smith, Rod West and Norman Wright won a close game 14-10. Replying for the Vikings, Doug Staples, Gordon Gallichan and Geoff Barnes won 25-7 for their fifth win  of the season overall.

Amateurs, at seven ends, looked like they were going to lift all six points from the Golfers. Jonathan West, Albert Bachelor and Phil Sharp maintained their early advantage and won 15-7 for Amateurs. Martin Middlebrook, Sam Leafe and Eric Taylor saw their 11-4 lead eaten away by the Golfers’ set of Jerry Gill, David Smith and Norman Ablard who went on to sneak a narrow 13-12 success.

Benton’s Glazing Division Three

The top match saw the second and third placed teams tackle each other. Highflyers got off to a good start and enjoyed a fine win over Punchbowlers with successes on both rinks. Joy Tory, Robert Goodale and Alan Watson won 18-11 while Barrie trigg, Eric Lewis and Ivor Roberts enjoyed a 15-13 success. The Bowlers bounced back, however, when they overcame Wrangle with few problems. Charlie Reeson, Terry Dawson and Peter Cannon won 18-6 while Maggie and Stuart Van Beirendonck with Barry Julian had a success margin of 16-10 to their names. Did they take their foot off the accelerator when leading 15-1 against Wrangle’s top man?

The bottom two, Terriers and Shipmates, were also matched against each other. And it was the latter who won on both rinks through skips Brian Hunn and Jean Stevens by 17-13 and 15-14 — the latter a good recovery from 12-4 down.

Burtons and Fenhouses shared the rink points. For the Burton, skip Mick Greet won 14-9 while in reply for the Houses, Vera Monger, Rosemary Hoskins and Vic Chester secured the aggregate points with a 15-5 success.

Fairways also won four points. Matched against Trader, Mavis Ablard, Hazel Smith and Carol Nundy won 22-7. Replying for the Traders, Margaret Harris, Ray Robinson and Norman Stanley fell short of gaining the aggregate when winning 16-5.

Abrasives verus Central went in favour of the former. For Central, skip Peter Boxall won 13-9, thanks to a count of five on the 12th end. Replying for the Abrasives, Philip Stubley, Ann Wys and Richard Jutsam secured the aggregate success with a 21-9 win.

Highflyers completed their week with a 4-2 win over Traders.

Week ending February 17:

Miko Coffee (East Midlands) Division One

Up against Holland Fen Swineshead trailed 6-0 and 7-1 after only four ends on each of the two rinks. The Fenmen went on to consolidate their position and skips Martin Tomlin and Peter Gorbutt closed out their games with wins of 17-8 and 19-6.

Stickney and Rustics shared the rink points and also the aggregate in a close encounter. Pete Sharman won 12-10 for Stickney while John Sivill replied for Rustics with a 15-13 rink score.

Invaders’ Michael Emery, Dale Elsam and Ian Tebbs put in a good performance against Jolly Farmers’ set of Shirley Moore, Ken Rawlings and Joe Moore (who don’t normally lose many points) and secured a 16-12 win. The Farmers’ set

success this week came from  Daryl Gardner plus Dick and David Allen whose 16-6 scoreline was enough to secure the aggregate rewards.

Cosmos were expecting a tough encounter against Carlton Road. And that's exactly what they got. For the leaders, Royce Reynolds, Chris Hiom and Abb French hung on for a 15-14 win after leading by five shots towards the conclusion against the Road’s Pete Clarke, Alex Tomlin and Alan Coupland. Meanwhile, Keith French, Sue Simpson-Shaw and Les Feary looked comfortable at 12-7 ahead with eight ends played against Jeff Powell, Roly Hall and Roy Vinter. But the latter trio were 15-12 ahead three ends later. Eventually a last end count of three saw Cosmos beaten 17-16, but the overall scores were level for three points apiece.

Eastenders, playing on the middle session, watched the leaders lose three points  and then set about picking up all six in their game with Kirton Town. The latter, though, provided tough opposition and the match was decided only over the closing stages. At 13 ends, the Town’s Ann Thomas, Sheila Tracey and Peter Tracey led 10-9 while Jeff Homewood, Jill Smith and Dorothy Hawkesworth led 11-10. But Eastenders, led by skips Paul Flatters and Simon Reeson, emerged 13-10 and 13-12 winners respectively — the latter thanks to a count of three on the final end against Town’s top rink.

Freelanders boosted their place in the top nine with a good result against IBC. Bryan Sharp, Geoff Taylor and Stan Lawrence won easily 22-8 while Tom Freeston, Vic Murtough and Jeff Nicholson won a tight game 13-10.

A40’s Gill Grant, Maggie Kisby and Sheila King produced the goods this week with a 13-11 success against Foresters’ John Whyers. Arnold Bennett, for A40, won fairly comfortably against Mary Hewinson.

Boston Electrical Services Division Two

Woodhall had too much ammunition for BBC. Doreen Sharp, Alan Eastgate and Eric Ullyatt hit a purple patch when they scored 10 shots without reply. And this saw them home 14-12. Meanwhile, Richard Whitaker, Bill Busby and Tom Richardson coasted into a 14-2 lead by the 10th end and went on to win the points 16-10.

The question now being asked is will Stumpers’ name actually go on the championship trophy? Their one-time sizeable lead has now virtually gone. And with only a two-point difference between them and Breakaways, it is going to be an interesting few weeks. Matched against the Butchers in their latest game, the Stumpers finished with five points. Margaret Bycroft, Norma Barnes and Ken Bycroft won 16-11. Peter Myers, Gerry Myers and Denis Robins trailed 16-2 at eight ends against Tina Reeson, Geoff Dawson and Dave Gill. The Stumpers’ skip swapped positions with his number two and fought back to tie 17-17.

Breakaways, in second spot, picked up all six points with Eileen Brown, Ivor Brown and Gloria French winning 15-9  and Keith Bailey, Bill Barton and Alan Saxton producing a 22-8 victory scorecard.

The third and fourth teams also picked up maximum points. The Gang defeated Norprint and Royal Mail saw off the challenge of Golfers.

Parthians and Amateurs shared the rink points. For Amateurs, Brenda Wheway, Tony Nixon and Martin Middlebrook took the aggregate points with a success of 21-10. Gerald Horrey, Mary Cowham and Derek Henderson closed out a

low-scoring game 10-9 to earn two points for Parthians.

Patriarchs are well below last season’s form but this week produced a good result against the Feathers. Skips Ray Woods and Shamus Rooney had rink wins of 14-9 and 21-7.

Strollers might just fall short of a top three position but they did have their chances no harm by picking up six points from their game with the Vikings. Dave France, Bob Pearce and Berwyn Thomas won 17-6 while Ray Hobart, Ken Haigh

and Keith Swain enjoyed a 15-10 success.

Benton’s Glazing Division Three

Abrasives’ spell of good results came to an end this week with Traders winning all the points. Skips Pete Coulson and Norman Stanley won 16-9 and 16-13 respectively.

In the lower reaches Terriers were happy to take two points from second-placed Puncbowlers. Doing well for Terriers were Alf Twiddy, Glenda Middleton and Ken Thompson who won well against Peter Cannon’s trio. It could have been four points for the Terriers, but the Bowlers’ Stuart Van Beirendonck, Terry Dawson and Jeff Skelton stretched away to win 26-9 for the aggregate points.

Wrangle left their top man out and brought in new signing Maurice Young (from Division One side IBC) to play with Margaret and phil Purkiss. But it didn’t prove successful as they went down 17-15 to Highflyers’ Joy Tory, Robert Goodale and Alan Watson. The deficit was only two shots, but it was enough for the Flyers to win the extra points at stake. Replying for Wrangle, Brian Simpson, Fleur Simpson and Russ Rousell (14-7 down) made a aprkling recovery to win 15-14.

The Robins safely negotiated a tough match against Fenhouses to net all six points. Janet Pape, Eileen Sellars and John Riches won 18-9 while Brenda Hanson, Alan Davy and Brian Stanhope won 18-8 — the first maximum haul for the leaders after a number of dropped points.

Shipmates lifted themselves off the bottom rung with victory over Burtons. Brian Samson, R Chapman and Tony Tomlin tied 14-14 with Mick Greet’s trio, the latter picking up a five on the final end. Betty Taylor, Brian Hunn and John Balderson had a 14-11 success. The Burtons then bounced back against Central in their follow-up match with victory on both rinks. Eileen Smithbone, Jean Young and Chris Hill won 15-8 while Olive Fenner, Jim Fenner and Mick Greet finished strongly to win 13-9.

Abrasives seem to be playing the top teams of late. Matched against Wrangle, they secured the aggregate points with a good performance from Derek Cooper, Ann Wys and Ivan Stimson (13-11 winners). However, Wrangle’s second trio of Brian Simpson, Fleur Simpson and Russ Rousell (13-10 down) picked up a brace of two to win 14-13. The aggregate points went to Abrasives by the slenderest of margins (26-25).

Terriers then got back on the green and picked up two points from their clash with Fairways. Mavis Ablard, Anthea Hall and Barbara Slade were in superb form for a 24-3 win. Terriers’ two-point response came from a 14-7 rink win of Phyl Rickett, R Peter King and Chas Newham.

Shipmates were unable to follow on from their earlier five-point haul  when losing on both rinks to the Crowns. George rennison, Albert crowder and Graham Mulholland won 22-9 while Brian Blackburn, Ron Holland and Peter Copeland

enjoyed a 16-5 success.

Yetton (Inter-Club) National Championship

There was disappointment for the Boston ladies team. Their run in the contest came to an end at New Earswick in a match against Cumbria who, in the process, achieved their first win over Boston in four meetings. The much longer and faster rinks at the neutral venue near York saw Boston win on only two rinks (Sheila King’s team 17-5 and Jean Camack’s team 26-12). The final result was a 74-68 loss for Boston.

Week ending February 10:

Miko Coffee (East Midlands) Division One

None of the top four teams won maximum points in week 22 of the night league. A40 look like they will have to settle for fourth position in the league. Bex Field, Sarah McKay and Mick Asplen had a hard task but won well against Andy Dawson, Keith Tointon and Mick Tomlin 17-14. A 40’s all-female rink of Gill Grant, Maggie Kisby and Sheila King struggled and where the team might have expected points, the Fenmen’s rink of Andrew Grant, Hazel Marshall and Peter Gorbutt won the two points at stake and took the aggregate, winning 19-7.

Rustics, matched against the leaders Cosmos, saw the same result as the first meeting 4-2 in Cossies’ favour. Royce Reynolds, Chris Hiom and Les Feary won 16-6. George Phillips, Colin Palmer and Keith French lost again as Ray Reeson, Don Ebbage and Keith Stones proved too strong for them with a win of 13-10.

IBC are battling hard to stay in the top nine and came away with all the points from Crusaders. June Burman, Ruth Wright and Reg Doughty, leading 14-3 against Crusaders top set, ran out winners 16-12. Alan Bates, Denis Ellis and Richard White turned the ‘heat’ on with a win of 14-9.

Swinshead moved into the coveted ninth spot with a maximum points win against Foresters. Janet Winter, Joan Mews and Brian Vinter had a close tussle against Beryl Parker, Mary Hewinson and Keith Hewinson (the latter two inter-changing positions). But leading 10-8, Foresters dropped counts of four and one to lose 13-10.

Kirton Town were successful against Invaders with the Town’s top rink back on form picking up four points with a win of 22-10. Invaders’ set of Michael Emery, Sally Gurton and Paul Gurton had to settle for two points with a win of 16-6.

Carlton Road nearly put the frighteners on Eastenders who still have an outside chance of winning the lead. At end nine, the Road were leading 10-2 and 10-5. Chris Gill, Roly Hall and Geoff Parker maintained their advantage for the Road as they won 13-9. Phil Harris, John Benton and Alan Coupland (leading 10-2) did not score another shot and the Enders’ set of Andrew Limb, Ian Clark and Paul Flatters picked up 15 shots without reply to win 17-10 and claim four points.

Jolly Farmers and Freelanders shared the rink points. The Farmers’ trio of Shirley Moore, Martin Clarkson and Joe Moore were always ahead and won 13-10. Replying for the Landers Ron Thacker, Des Aelberry and Derek Whelbourne

produced a match winning 24-3 scorecard.

Boston Electrical Services Division Two

Breakaways and the Gang are breathing down the necks of the leaders Stumpers who again let points slip away.

Breakaways gleaned all the points from the Butchers with skips Ted Benton and Alan Saxton winning 15-10 and 11-8. Gang had no problems overcoming the Golfers as their skips John Allen and Dennis Tebbs won 18-11 and 19-17 against Peter Dyer and Graham Scarboro.

Meanwhile the leaders Stumpers saw their top set of Margaret Bycroft, Norma Barnes and Ken Bycroft unable to counter the plat of Mathew Smith, Rod West and Norman Wright with a deficit 14-9. Doing well again for the leaders, skip Bernard Skelton with Elliot Dews and Gerry Myers won four points with a success of 18-7.

Strollers were busy this week catching up with a rearranged game. They overcame the Butchers on both rinks — Keith Swain and Alan Everitt had winning scorecards of 20-7 and 20-17. They followed this with a 4-2 success against Woodhall whose two points came from skip Eric Ulyatt. For Strollers Alex Seaton, Ken Haigh and Berwyn Thomas with a 26-5 success.

Norprint are suffering a minor dip in form. Matched against Amateurs, one would have expected them to win some of the points. Jonathan West, Albert Batchelor and Phil Sharp won 18-7. Anthony Tabor, Sam Leafe and Curly Taylor (the

latter using the maximum width of the green to turn a five down to one up) ensured his team collected the points by winning 19-9.

The bottom two teams Vikings and BBC were engaged in an even game. BBC just had the edge with a rink win of 10-7 for Sue Upsall, Ted Vere and Mu Watson and a tie of 14-14 for Derek Richmond and Ron Holmes.

Two other teams in the bottom five were matched against each other and it was higher of the two. Parthians, who managed to outgun Patriarchs and claim all the points. Mary Cowham, Pauline Atkin and Keith Nix had a 19-11 win and Gerald Horrey, Malc Rogers and Derek Henderson came from 16-3 down and 17-11 to pick up counts of three and four to win 18-17. That is some recovery!

Royal Mail, slightly behind the top three, need to keep producing good results like they did this week if they are going to claim a top three finish. Matched against Feathers, skips Barry Barton and Keith Sharp won 12-9 and 33-3.

Benton’s Glazing Division Three

The team in form are with no doubt the Abrasives. Formerly in the lower regions of the division they have now pushed themselves into mid-table. Playing a double fixture, they picked up 10 of the 12 points at stake. The first game was against second in the league Highflyers and Philip Stubley, Peter Parker and Ray Wagstaff lifted four points with a win of 25-10. Their second game was against fifth in the league Fenhouses and skips Ray Wagstaffe and Richard Jutsam came from behind to claim maximum points with wins of 20-16 and 12-10. The captain for Abrasives has obviously got the right formula.

It was not a good week for Traders as they could only win two points from two games. Matched against Punchbowlers the first set went down 25-9 to Les Kelly, Richard Bell and Peter Cannon. It could have been much worse as Bill Young,

Norman Truepenny and Jeff Skelton led 12-0 for the Bowlers. But another phenomenal recovery was made and Maurice Harding, Cyn Baker and Sid Coultan produced a winning scorecard of 16-13 for Traders to earn two points.

The bottom team Terriers were Traders’ next opponents and it was zero points as Terriers skips Bill Earth and Chas Newham won 16-12 and 16-8.

Punchbowlers picked up another four points when they overcame Fairways. for the Fairways, Mavis Ablard, Hazel Smith and Heather Scarboro won 16-8. Replying for the Bowlers, Charlie Reeson, Terry Dawson and Jeff Skelton (2-5 down at six ends) gave their opponents just one more scoring opportunity as they ran away to win 18-6.

The jewel in the Crowns’ team is back. Last week he managed to win and this week he had to be satisfied with a tie. Matched against the Burtons in a game that could have gone either way, Peter Coupland, Sandra Coupland and Peter Emery tied 12-12. The Burtons’ set of Roger Young, Hazel Clark and Mick Greet finished strongly to win five points with a 15-11 success.

Did Wrangle miss their star man this week? Matched against Central it finished three points apiece. For Central, Iris Facey, Eunice Belford and Peter Boxall won 15-10. Replying for Wrangle, Margaret Purkiss, Phil Purkiss and Tony

Wilson-Carter (9-12 down) recovered to win 18-13.

Second from bottom Shipmates were pleased to ease two points away from the leaders. The Robins’ set of Janet Pape, Eileen Sellars and John Riches did not start too well but picked up their game and went well away to win 16-8. Replying for Shipmates with a good win were John Burton, Brian Hunn and Jean Stevens with a success of 17-10.

Success time for the ladies section

The ladies section at the Boston Indoor Bowls Club has been successful in qualifying for the national championships at Nottingham between February 23 and March 3. Bex Field will play in the champion of champion singles and, with Sarah McKay, has won through in the pairs. Sarah McKay, Di Wilson, Dorothy Hawkesworth and Jean Cammack will appear in the fours. In the Un-badged pairs Boston representatives are Janet Vinter and Gill Grant and in the over-50s wood Triples, winning through to the finals are Janet Vinter, Jean Thompson and Hazel Marshall.

Qualifiers for the mixed pairs are Sarah McKay and Martin Tomlin to be played at Northampton IBC. Congratulations also go to Michael Emery who competed in the under-21 singles at Pentney and who lifted the trophy and prize money from a strong field.

Week ending February 3:

Miko Coffee (East Midlands) Division One

In their previous match, Cosmos captain Keith French recovered from a large deficit to win by one shot. This week he and his team were 12-0 ahead playing against Kirton Town’s Ann Thomas, Sheila Tracey and Jill Smith (making her debut in the skip’s position in the first division) he saw the lead established by his trio evaporate as they collapsed to a 14-12 loss. The leaders relied on Abb French, Sue Simpson-Shaw and Les Feary to win four points 23-12.

A40 picked up six points from Jolly Farmers with identical scorelines of 18-9 for skips Arnold Bennett and Mick Asplen.

Invaders met Rustics in the lower regions and the match saw the points go in favour of the Invaders with Dale Elsam, Michael Emery and Paul Gurton winning 26-8. Rustics’ Audrey Sivill, Don Ebbage and John Sivill claiming two points with a 14-8 success against Ian Tebbs.

IBC picked up all the points from Swineshead with skips Reg Doughty and Alan Bates winning 28-9 and 14-13.

Crusaders surprisingly could only win one point from Foresters. The game swung in Foresters’ favour in the last period of the game. For Foresters, Janet Whyers, Mary Hewinson and Keith Hewinson won three of the last four ends played to clinch a 13-12 result. Gordon Shipp, Lorraine Stevens and John Stevens (7-10 down) picked up counts of one and two to tie 10-10.

Second placed Holland Fen struggled to beat Freelanders. Skips Martin Tomlin and Mick Tomlin won 17-14 and 12-10.

Carlton Road played bottom team Stickney and the points went to the higher placed team with wins of 18-11 and 14-10 for Alan Coupland and Geoff Parker.

Boston Electrical Services Division Two

At the end of December the leaders Stumpers had a 14-point lead over the chasing pack and looked in the comfort zone to take the title. They have since suffered a major crisis and the lead is slowly diminishing. This week, matches against Strollers they only managed to win a single point. For Strollers, Dave France, Mick Hippisley and Keith Swain cruised to a 17-13 success.  Ray Hobart, Ken Haigh and Alan Everitt (leading 10-9) tied 10-10 with Stumpers’ top rink of Margaret Bycroft, Norma Barnes and Ken Bycroft — a good result for the Strollers.

Second placed Breakaways had a pretty comfortable success against BBC with rink wins of 19-8 and 26-6 for skips Gloria French and Ted Benton. The Gang, in third, also picked up maximum points — Dennis Tebbs landing two “pan-fulls” on his way to a 28-5 success. Ivan Dilley came from behind against Derek Henderson to win 14-12.

Norprint did not play to their full potential this week and lost all the points to Royal Mail. The Mail’s Joan Sharp, Barry Harrington and Keith Sharp won 17-13 and Margaret Gardner, Dave Gardner and Kith Thorlby had a comfortable

21-5.

Though they have had a bit of a see-saw season, the Butchers as expected comfortably overcame Vikings. Tina Reeson, Roy Bennett and Dave Gill won 29-5. Eileen May, Ron Bagshaw and Sylvia Bagshaw had a 20-5 winning margin.

Shunters and Woodhall shared the rink points but it was Shunters who claimed the aggregate points. For Woodhall, Richard Whitaker, Alan Eastgate and Tom Richardson won 15-10 thanks to a count of five picked up on end 11. Replying for Shunters, Mathew Smith, Rod West and Norman Wright had big counts of four, five and five on ends two, seven and nine to win 19-13 for four points.

Golfers and Patriarchs also shared the rink points. But it was the Golfers’ David Smith, Jerry Gill and Norman Ablard who claimed the lion’s share of the points with a success of 21-3. Replying for Patriarchs, Carol Dawson, Alan Woods and Ray Woods fell short of what was required by winning 18-11.

Feathers produced a good win against Amateurs. Beryl Brewster, Tony Dawson and Sheila Dawson won 18-10 and Dick Masters, Keith Posey and Derek Hunn won 16-6.

Benton’s Glazing Division Three

The top three all saw points drift away in their games this week. Second placed Highflyers looked like they were going to get maximum points from fourth placed Wrangle. Peter Hoyles, Craig Spencer and Barrie Trigg won comfortably 21-13. Bas Atkin, Eric Lewis and Ivor Roberts (leading 12-4 at eight ends) could only win one more end and fell to Wrangle’s ‘star man’ with the help of Jill Rousell and Brian Barwick 14-13.

Punchbowlers, matched against Traders, saw the points go 4-2 in the Bowlers’ favour. Norman Truepenny, Bill Young and Barry Julian won 15-8 for the Bowlers. Replying for Traders, Barry Hudson, Cyn Baker and Norman Stanley recovered well when winning the last four ends played to snatch a win of 14-12.

The leaders, the Robins saw four points disappear when the Burton’s Olive Fenner, Jim Fenner and Mick Greet (8-2 down and 11-8 down) won 14-11 against John Riches. Neil Lockwood, Terry Hall and Arnold Pape snatched two points for the leaders with a win of 14-13.

Second from bottom Shipmates had a great success against fifth placed Fenhouses. Stan Smalley, R Chapman and Tony Tomblin won 14-7 and John Burton, Brian Lunn and Jean Stevens picked up a pan-full on the last end to tie 15-15.

The Fairways were in good nick this week when they won all the points from Central. Chris Gill, Lorna Locking and Heather Scarboro winning 14-12 and Mavis Ablard, Hazel Smith and Carol Nundy with a convincing win of 19-8.

Abrasives’ Philip Stubley, Peter Parker and Ray Wagstaff were in commanding form this week with an overwhelming 26-2 success. It was not all gloom for the Terriers as Phyl Rickett, R Peter King and Fran King won 19-7 for two points.

Punchbowlers had further success when they won against the Crowns. Picking up four points for the Bowlers was Charlie Reeson, Terry Dawson and Jeff Skelton with a win of 23-6.

Yetton Trophy

The Yetton Trophy team continued their Inter-Club Championship winning ways with a 82-58 success against Wellingborough. The support at the club was tremendous — keep it up. Next game is versus Cumbria on February

16.

Denny Plate

The men’s run in the Denny Plate came to an abrupt halt when they lost to Tonbridge. They had only one winning rink — that comings from skip Simon Reeson. The overall scoreline was a 79-66 defeat.
