Week ending September 1

The season for 2006 has now closed. It has been an interesting and enjoyable year for all concerned. The final positions for some are still uncertain, but several winners and losers can be pinpointed.

In Two Wood Division One the champions are Sleaford Road with BBC A in second while Swineshead are one of the two demoted sides, the other is still to be decided.

Two Wood Division Two champions are West End B while second place goes to Woodhall. Demoted are Jubilee Park with the second team as yet again undecided.

Two Wood Division Three champions are BBC B but runners-up spot remains unresolved.

Three Wood Division One champions are Burton House and second place goes to Wyberton. Sibsey A and Kirton A are the two sides to be relegated.

Three Wood Division Two title winners are Castle while second place goes to West End B. Demoted are Swineshead and Sibsey B.

Three Wood Division Three champions are Freiston with second place going to Friskney. Demoted are Woodhall B and Donington.

Three Wood Division Four’s title destiny has not yet been decided.

With only a few results still to be received, not all of the final positions have yet been assembled.

In Two Wood Division One, Sleaford Road took all the points away at Swineshead (L Feary 11-31 and K French 14-27). And in the crucial game against BBC A, Sleaford Road came out on top again, 2-10.

BBC A saw off the late challenge of Bicker with a 2-10 win, which gives BBC second place in the table (S Whyers 13-27 and R Lewis 12-35). Burton House won all rinks away at Swineshead (P Horn 14-23 and K Porter 16-27). Wigtoft won their home game against Swineshead with P Clark scoring a 27-11 success.

In Two Wood Division Two, Freiston helped their chances of staying up with a 12-0 win against Jubilee Park. But with one result to come, things are not totally certain yet.

In Two Wood Division Three, BBC B made certain of the title in style a 10-2 over second placed Sleaford Road who now have to wait for results to come in from Woodhall and Norprint to see if they are promoted.

In Three Wood Division One, BBC A finished the season with a full house at home to Burton House B (B Hooker 26-8, R Lewis 18-9 and B Grant 25-14).

In Three Wood Division Two, Castle didn’t need a win to guarantee their title feat. And they didn’t get one either. West End A took the game 10-2 (J Sellers 22-9, G Wells 11-24).

For Jubilee Park it another four points would have been great for their promotion hopes. But they lost away at Woodhall 10-2 (J Manley trying to take the aggregate on his own with a win of 11-23).

West End B jumped into that promotion slot by beating Swineshead away 0-12 (J Fensom 8-30).

In Three Wood Division Three, Gosberton went so close. They had two wins (10-2 against West Skirbeck and 4-8 against BBC B), but it left them three points adrift of second spot.

Donington must feel good. They beat Friskney 8-4 (a 26-10 for A Bristow). The four points that Friskney got means they go up into Division Two.

West Skirbeck won 12-0 at home against an already demoted Woodhall side (29-7 for B Bagley). Wyberton made sure of staying in Division Three. They won 0-12 away at Central Park (K Woods 13-24).

The Three Wood Division Four title is not yet decided. But a few more points on Mareham’s away on their travels to West End C would have clinched it. As it was, West End won 9-3 (S Leaf 23-9 and K Swain 24-9).

Week ending August 25

Still some vital matches lying in prospect

Some critical games still lay ahead, both in the promotion and demotion stakes despite the fact that the season has already concluded for some teams.

In Two Wood Division One, Bicker are in second place after a win over Swineshead. But their last game against BBC A will be crucial. They won 107-70 (D Allerton 29-18, P Hudson 31-12 and P Massingham 28-14). Burton House are coming in with a late sprint. A 12-0 win over West End A keeps them in fourth place, (P Richardson 33-19 and K Porter 32-15). Wigtoft added another two wins to their total with an 8-4 success against Kirton A (A Saunby 35-9, P Clark 30-19) while away at Kirton, they repeated the exercise with a 4-8 victory.

In Two Wood Division Two West End B have secured the title even after a loss against Sibsey A. So congratulations go to them. Woodhall will also be gracing Division One next season. They won away at Freiston 2-10, 14-32 J W Gibb, but lost against Jubilee Park 10-2 but it’s meaning was insignificant, J Oldroyd 34-19. Central Park gained 10 valuable points away at Wyberton and could still avoid relegation with one game left to play.

In Two Wood Division Three, BBC B are the champions still with one game left to play. They added another 10 points against Norprint, making their lead unassailable (D May 19-31 and R Goodale 13-33). Who will go up with them is far from certain. Sleaford Road could only manage a 4-8 win over Kirton (A Townsend 9-22 and J Riches 10-25). Woodhall added 10 points to their total by beating Kirton away (10-25 for D Bradshaw, 12-23 for D McNaughton and 9-27 for L Trotter).

In Three Wood Division One, Burton House A have taken the title honours while Wyberton take second place. Congratulations go to both. Burton House won away at Sibsey A 0-12 (K Porter 7-28) and followed up with a home 8-4 win against Burton House B (K Porter again with a 25-8 card). Wyberton played Goodfellowship twice. At home they won 10-2 (M Tomlin senior 26-3 and A Limb 24-11). Then away they won 4-8 (B Skelton 9-19 and S Reeson 12-23). Wyberton’s final win was against BBC A 8-4 which secured their silverware (a 33-3 win for M Tomlin senior and a 26-9 for S Reeson). Goodfellowship beat Norprint 10-2 (J Moore 20-9 and A Bristow 20-7). Sibsey A will be related to the Second Division even after a win against Norprint (C Collings 20-6 and R Pick 8-20). Demotion faces Kirton A.They lost at home to Wigtoft 2-10 and for the first time in many years they look like playing in Division Two next season (D Gill 23-9).

In Three Wood Division Two, Castle have secured the title and are promoted. Away from home they beat Woodhall 2-10 (G Wells 7-28, A Watson 7-24), and at home against one-time title chasers Wrangle they won 12-0 (G Wells 21-6). Jubilee Park are odds on favourites to go up with Castle. A 12-0 win over Sibsey gives them a seven-point lead over West End B (F Manley 31-8, D Richardson 22-9, K Manley 21-9 and D Sharpe 24-14). Stickney should be out of trouble, but it still depends on the last games. They beat West End A 4-8 away (R Rout 11-22 and A Wooding 14-23)

In Three Wood Division Three, Friskney increased their chances of promotion after adding 20 points to their total. Ten of them came against Central Park (T Bullen 34-8 and N Salmon 16-9) and a further 10 came away at Woodhall B (A Crofts 14-27, J Bray 10-25 with C Smith responding with a 34-5). Title winners Freiston beat Wyberton 9-3 where there was a card of 38-8 for B Harrington. Gosberton are pushing hard for glory. A 10-2 win over Woodhall gives them an outside chance of silverware. With two games left to play, who can tell? West Skirbeck, trying to avoid the drop, drew away at BBC B (R Rutherford 7-24 and K Whyers 21-14).

In Three Wood Division Four there are still a lot of games still to play. But Sleaford Road are emerging as favourites to take the title, a 10-2 win over Mareham, gives them a 17-point lead (22- 9 for T Bourn). Bottom team Sibsey C had a good 12-0 win over West End C (R Smalley 19-9 and J Goodson 24-14).

Week ending August 18

Trio in pursuit of top section title honours

All three title contenders in the Two Wood top section gained the maximum12 points from their most recent matches. And it means there’s everything still to play for by championship contenders BBC A, Sleaford Road and Bicker as the season enters its final phase.

However, with two games left to play, Sleaford Road appear to be the overall favourites. They play BBC A and bottom of the table Swineshead, while BBC A play Sleaford Road and third placed Bicker, Bicker of course play BBC A and Swineshead. I am looking forward to exciting games from all three teams.

There are still some concerns as to whether all of the league’s outstanding matches can be played in the allotted time for the duration of the season. League officials fear that promotion and relegation may be decided on forfeited games, which is far from satisfactory and is a disadvantage to everyone who has worked so hard during the season. With two weeks still to go, competition organisers hope teams getting all their games arranged and played can avoid such a scenario.

In more detail, BBC A fought hard away at West End A in the Two Wood Division One and came away with 12 points (A Bennett leading the way with a 12-30). Sleaford Road also put in a supreme effort to win away at Kirton A (R Hall 14-33, B Featherstone 13-27 and K French winning by just one shot 22-23). Bicker away at mid-table Wigtoft also triumphed 0-12 (N Wing 10-29).

Goodfellowship, with one game left to play, could be facing demotion depending on West End’s last two results and Swineshead’s last four, Burton House beat them 2-10 with M Asplen getting a 10-28 result.

In Two Wood Division Two, West End B had their first defeat of the season away at Woodhall. But the meaning is zero as they are now promoted to Division One (D Crabtree 35-8, R Dales 22-14). Jubilee Park are still struggling to stay in the division. They beat West Skirbeck 8-4 (P Scholey 26-10), but still need another win to stay up. Freiston are also battling but look to be going down. They lost at home to Sibsey A and their future looks to be in Division Three. Sibsey B certainly put pay to Wyberton’s chances of promotion with a 12-0 win (J Peach 39-8, B Thompson 29-16).

In Two Wood Division Three, Kirton B have three games left to play. And this means they have a trio of opportunities to break their winning duck. Norprint are still looking at their own chances of going up having taken nine points from Kirton (R Loughran 10-26). And with a game in hand Norprint could still make the cut. BBC B are now promoted to the Second Division. A10-2 win against Woodhall made certain (N Turepenny 31-10). Norprint showed Sleaford Road that they are determined to impress with a 2-10 win when the sides met (R Loughran 11-31, J Riches 33-16). Sleaford Road’s win over BBC B (B Earth 31-19 and T Bourne 22-13) puts them up into second place. But third placed Norprint have a game in hand, and it is still all to play for.

In Three Wood Division One, there were mixed results for BBC A — a 0-12 win away at Kirton A (B Hooker 7-23 and R Lewis 8-23), but they failed to capitalise on this by losing 2-10 at home to Wigtoft. Wyberton are also falling short of valuable points. Away at Wigtoft they lost 9-3 and their promotion ambitions look vulnerable despite still holding second spot.

Once at the top of the table, Burton House B fell to sixth after a poor showing in a 12-0 loss away at Norprint (R Vinter 27-12, T Hall 25-10, R Motley 20-11 and R Pick 28-16). Burton House A appear guaranteed of the title. A win of 9-3 over Sibsey A this week leaves them 31 points clear (K Porter 24-8, B Askey 29-12).

In Three Wood Division Two, Wrangle appear to have thrown it all away by losing 2-10 at home against West End A (Geoff Barnes 13-24). As a result, they drop to fourth. Stickney are in deep trouble after losing both their games this week against Sibsey B 9-3 and against Jubilee Park 2-10 despite Roy Routs contributing a 29-12 scorecard. Swineshead raised themselves from the relegation zone with a 10-2 win against Sibsey B.

In Three Wood Division Three, Donington had another win. This time it was 4-8 against Woodhall B (C Smith 30-9 G Simpson 5-28). Good points away from home, but it all seems too late to save them from the drop. Central Park hold on to second place after a 1-11 win away at Woodhall B (H Stanley 12-23, R Davy 9-17). West Skirbeck did themselves some good with a 12-0 win at home to Wyberton (L Stevens 26-7 and H J Stevens 22-13). But they still have a fight on to stay up. Gosberton move up into third place following a 12-0 win over Central Park and promotion is not out of their grasp. Freiston were in tremendous form away at BBC B winning 0-12 (B Harrington 12-20). They put further distance between themselves and Central Park. Friskney, with four games to play, could still challenge for promotion. An 8-4 win against keeps their hopes alive (T Chesterman 27-6 and L Rice 33-8).

In Three Wood Division Four, West End C had too much power for Kirton B in a10-2 result. But according to latest records, West End still have five games left to play! Sleaford Road stayed at the top following a 10-2 win over Sibsey C (D Taylor 23-12, M Brown 27-8 and F King 22-10). Mareham are in second place and a win over Kirton B did their promotion chances no harm (31-7 for J Kennedy and 8-27 for A Crowder).

Week ending August 11

Maximum haul sees Road driving clear

Sleaford Road banged in another 12-pointer to move nine points clear in the two wood top section. This leaves both BBC A and Bicker with a difficult task as Sleaford Road, on paper at least, seem to have the easiest three games left to play. Burton House in the three-wood category are in an unassailable position. But Wyberton, after collecting 20 points from two games have moved into second place. With only two and half weeks of the season left for playing, a concern must be for some teams as to whether they can fit all their games in. One team in particular have seven fixtures left to play while others have as many as five and six.

In Two Wood Division One, title-chasing Bicker beat Kirton A 10-2. They took three rinks and only lost the fourth by one shot. Best wins were 32-18 by R Wing and 31-18 by P Hudson. Sleaford Road made no mistakes against Wigtoft when adding another 12 points to their total (P Wiles 29-13 and K French 33-10). BBC A put in a strong show against Goodfellowship (R Lewis 32 -13, S Whyers 27-14) but have two difficult games ahead against Bicker and Sleaford Road. Goodfellowship sent Swineshead further into relegation troubles after an 8-4 win (a 44-7 for J Templeman).

In Two Wood Division Two, Wyberton slipped up badly at home to Sibsey A. By tumbling 0-12, they lost second place. And with only two games left to play promotion is going to be difficult for them. Sibsey B made things a bit easier by winning at home to West Skirbeck (a 29-18 for B Hudson’s rink). Freiston have four games left to play and could avoid relegation if they show the form that they did against Central Park when winning 4-8 (I Smith 12-30). West End B are now the only team undefeated and seem certain of Division One games next year. In their latest match they beat Jubilee Park 8-4 (E Ullyatt 34-14).

In Two Wood Division Three, Woodhall opened the door slightly to Sleaford Road by losing to them 4-8. It’s a result that could deprive them of Division Two action next season (J Anstee 29-14, C Smith 34-22, D Taylor 16-43 and B Earth 11-30). BBC B look as if they are going up beating so far winless Kirton B 2-10 (M Kirk 9-30, W Mortlock 9-29 and R Chapman replying 33-16).

In Three Wood Division One, moving into unfamiliar ground are Wigtoft after losing their two games played this week. They are now are second from bottom with a real danger of Second Division bowls next year. They lost 11-1 against Sibsey A and 10-2 against Wyberton. Norprint put up a strong challenge against leaders Burton House A, loosing 4-8 (M Asplen making the difference with a 12-26 result). BBC A’s once strong position must now be over via defeat against Goodfellowship at home (J Moore 14-23). Goodfellowship against Sibsey A finished with just one shot the difference 51-52. But seven points went to Sibsey. Burton House B fell foul of Wyberton’s charge for silverware, the latter winning 2-10 (B Skelton 15-23 and M Tomlin senior 14-27).

In Three Wood Division Two West End B moved up a place into second after beating Sibsey B 4-8. Wrangle fell a place into third after only collecting two points away at Jubilee Park (a 27-8 for F Manley). Castle stay in top place following a 10-2 win over Sibsey B (S Avison 26-12, A Watson 22-9). Swineshead won at Woodhall 3-9 (J Bannister 14-27). Can they still stay in Division Two? With just two games left to play it’s not going to be easy. Stickney move down to third from bottom with a 2-10 loss aginst Woodhall.

In Three Wood Division Three, Gosberton are safe but Donington are certain to be demoted after their 8-4 defeat when the sides met (M Greet 2-11, J Pell 17-7 I Bristow 11-22). BBC B kept their flame alight following a 2-10 win against Wyberton (J Meeds 8-20). Freiston are now 20 points clear at the top of the table after beating previously undefeated Central Park 10-2 (B Nightingale 30-6).

In Three Wood Division Four, Sleaford Road look to be going up. Their 8-4 win against Kirton B seems to make that fact a certainty. Sibsey C held promotion prospects Mareham to a 6-6 draw, even though Mareham won three of the rinks. A score of 31-3 from R Smalley gave Sibsey the aggregate. West End C beat leaders Sleaford Road 10-2 (E Devs 24-14 and S Leafe 23-11).

Week ending August 4

Title races heading for thrilling conclusions

The title races in all sections of the Boston and District League are heading towards their conclusion. And plenty of excitement is lying in prospect. Sleaford Road have moved seven points clear at the top of Division One in the two wood section after collecting 20 points from the two results submitted this week. BBC A, Bicker and Burton House are in close pursuit. West End B seem to have Division Two by sitting 23 points clear. The Division Three race sees BBC B as hot favourites but Woodhall, Sleaford Road and Norprint are all still not out of the reckoning. Burton House have all but cemented the Three Wood Division One title. They are 34 points clear with four games left. A great battle is going on in Division Two. Castle have moved to the top while the chasing pack of Wrangle, West End B, Jubilee Park and even West End A all have chances of promotion. Central Park have briefly lost the top slot in Division Three due to the fact that Freiston have played two more games. In Division Four, it’s anyone’s guess who will take the top honours. But Sleaford Road and Mareham look firmly on course for promotion.

In Two Wood Division One S Francis (with a 14-32) and B Askey (19-29) gave Burton House a 83-102 win away at Kirton. Wigtoft had a safe 10-2 win against West End A (A Saunby 28-19). Sleaford Road held firm against the challenge of Bicker when winning their game 90-77. The rinks were shared but P Wiles had a 29-14 and R Hall enjoyed a 32-14 success to tip the aggregate fortunes their team’s way.

In Two Wood Division Two, West End B moved even closer to the title after seeing off West Skirbeck 10-2 (J Fensom 36-10 and P Tracy 29-14). Only two points went Wyberton’s way when they travelled to face bottom side Freiston (J Walker with a 31-22). Woodhall are looking good for the second place. But it was a tight game away at Sibsey B. The score finished 87-87, but Woodhall took three of the winning rinks for the aggregate. Sibsey A shove Central Park into a precarious position near the foot of the table after a 12-0 win in a meeting between the sides (D Bridges 30-15, C Russell 26-15 and C Collins 23-15). It was 12-0 for Wyberton against West Skirbeck. But is it going to be enough for promotion? (N Blakey 29-15, S Reeson 22-13 and J Elleray 30-15).

In Two Wood Division Three, Woodhall knocked back Sleaford Road’s chances of promotion after a 10-2 win. And they themselves are only 10 points behind BBC B (28-8 for C Smith). BBC B stay in top place after a 10-2 win against Norprint (34-16 for R Goodale and 31-15 for W Mortlock).

In Three Wood Division One, Burton House A added 10 more points to their total away at Kirton, which now leaves them an incredible 34 points clear. Wigtoft are struggling to find form this year and a 3-9 defeat by Norprint still leaves them third from bottom (G Wilkinson 26-14). Another 11 points for Norprint came against Goodfellowship (R Motley 25-8 and D Vinter 27-14).

In Three Wood Division Two, West End B have given thesmelves an outside chance of promotion following an 8-4 win against Stickney (B Vinter 25-12 and D Robins 21-9). Woodhall, trying to avoid the drop, banged in a 3-9 win away against Sibsey B (K Robins 9-19, D Crabtree 7-16). But the rink of C Collings and J W Gee produced a very close game finishing 9-9. Castle came out top in their game at the top of the table Wrangle who had to settle for just two points. Castle are now making a serious charge for silverware (A Watson 7-21), and again there was a low-scoring close rink with a score of 8-9 between R Rousell and R Pockington. Swineshead are still in trouble. But they managed a 10-2 win against West End A (19-6 for H V Metcalf, 25-12 for J Bouchereau while R Blackmore responded with a 11-25 result). Friskney came away from BBC B with a win and put themselves in a promotion position. The margin was 2-10 with R Burbidge’s 11-21 rink win leading the way. Donington suffered perhaps their biggest defeat 37-107 at the hands of Freiston (4-31 for B Hunn, 14-20 for B Harrington, 10-25 for J Stray and 9-31 for S Tebbs). But it must have been a source of jubilation for Donington when they followed up with a 2-10 win away to Wyberton.

In Three Wood Division Four, Sibsey C chalked up their third win against Kirton B by 10-2 and after three careful views of the scoresheet, it revealed that the rink of J Goodson had the remarkable score of 33-0 (can anyone ever remember a nil on a result card?) Sleaford Road took 10 points away from Sibsey C (F Epton 12-25 and T Bourn 12-29). Mareham could only managed two points away at Sibsey C, but still remain confident of promotion.

Olive clinches cup success

The 2006 Shipstones Cup was played at the green of Stickney Bowls Club on Saturday July 29. The cup itself was presented to the Boston Bowls League for a singles championship by the brewers James Shipstone and Sons Ltd in 1949, when it was won by T Knowles.

This year’s competition consisted of a ‘round robin’ contest with each player involved in three games of 12 ends of EBF two wood singles. After the three games, only three players had the maximum six points and the championship was decided on shot difference. The runner-up was Richard White of Burton House Bowls Club and the champion was Olive Wells of Friskney Bowls Clubs. The trophy and prizes was presented by the chairman of the Boston Bowls League, Alan Bates of the Burton House Bowls Club. Thanks went to all involved in the organisation of the event with congratulations going to Olive Wells.

In Two Wood Division One, leaders for so long this season BBC A are now in a position were they can be caught and overtaken. Bicker have a game in hand and are only seven points behind while Sleaford Road have two games in hand and are 13 points behind. It’s going to be a tense last four games for BBC as they have to play both the aforementioned clubs.

Burton House played BBC A and came out winning 10-2. It wasn’t the close game that was anticipated, A Bennett the only winning rink for BBC, while the other three rinks were overwhelmed, M Asplen 32-14, P Richardson 27-15 and S Francis 24-14. Sleaford Road, made their challenge clear with a 10-2 win over West End (J Sellars came close to winning the aggregate for West End with a 15-28 result). Swineshead, now quite a few points adrift at the foot of the table, lost out to Kirton A (S Cawtwell 10-33). Goodfellowship shared the rinks with Wigtoft but the high scores of R Allen with a 37-6 result and J Templeman with a 32-12 scorecard made the aggregate safe.

In Two Wood Division Two, West End B are still charging out in front and are almost sure of Division One games next season. Sibsey were the team to suffer West End’s wrath this week. The result was 12-0 and 115-72on shots (P Tracy 30-15 and J Fensom 31-19). West Skirbeck enjoyed a 12-0 victory away at Freiston, notable success being the rink of R Rutherford with a 13-41 win. Freiston must now be looking at the drop into Division Three. Mid-table Central Park gave potential relegation candidates Jubilee Park further worries. It was a case of only four points going to Jubilee Park (P Sharpe 31-11 and C Newham 34-16). Woodhall casually went to Sibsey A and wiped their hosts out 62-118 with all 12 points going to Woodhall (J W Gee 17-28, G Cutting 13-30, G salmon 19-25 and D Crabtree 13-35).

In Two Wood Division Three, Woodhall B have the chance to go up into Division Two. A 10-2 win against Kirton puts them above Sleaford Road by one point (C Smith 38-12 and D MacNaughton 41-8).

In Three Wood Division One, Burton House A continued their relentless charge for the title by overwhelming Wigtoft 41-123 on shots (R White 9-36, K Porter 12-28 and S Asplen 4-38). BBC A still could take the runners-up position. They gained eight points away at Sibsey A and notably an 8-27 result from S Whyers kept their challenge on track. Wyberton could also be in with a shout. At Kirton they collected eight points (M Tomlin junior 12-24).

Burton House B are still in second place but with a little ground lost against Kirton A (D Gill 9-17).

In Three Wood Division Two, A Wooding and S Wells recorded good scores in Stickney’s win over Sibsey, 27-13 and 34-5 respectively. Castle moved up into second place after defeating Swineshead 10-2 (P Rudd 26-14). Woodhall made their position a little safer with a 12-0 win against West End (21-10 for J Gee and 23-11 for D Crabtree). Wrangle were back after a bit of a holiday and a 10-2 win puts them at the top of the table. Next week’s game against Castle should be interesting. Not out of it yet, Jubilee Park maintained their challenge with a 4-8 win at West End A (J Wilkinson 12-20).

In Three Wood Division Three, Central Park kept their 100 percent record intact away at BBC B. Undefeated they charge relentlessly on (C Newham 9-18, P Simpson 12-21). Friskney’s T Bullen with a 28-5 and J Smith with a 24-11 added to the 84-51 win over struggling West Skirbeck. Freiston joined the 100 club and look to be going up into Division Two. They defeated Gosberton 2-10 (9-35 from B Harrington).

In Three Wood Division Four, Mareham are back on the top after a 12-0 win over Sleaford Road (22-12 P Smith, 26-7 J Bontoft). West End C came out on top in the clash of the bottom two with a 9-3 win over Sibsey C (21-6 for S Leafe and 20-7 M Hippisley).

House double chances dented by Wigtoft

In Two Wood Division One, Wigtoft’s win over Burton House, seems to have denied the latter the chance of the double again this year. Even despite a brave win from B Askey of 15-32, Wigtoft took 10 points. Bicker are still on a charge but they were involved in a close affair against West End A. There was one winning rink each while the other two rinks were drawn. R Wing with a 36-12 helped to give Bicker the aggregate.

Kirton A gave BBC A their third defeat with a 10-2 win. This now leaves BBC just five points clear at the top of the table (R Woods registered a 30-14 win, S Whyers responded with a 19-32 scorecard). Sleaford Road can’t at this stage be written out of the scene. With two games in hand, a couple of 12-pointers will see them in the driving seat. A big 113-81 triumph against Goodfellowship brought them another 10 points (K French with a 32-16).

In Two Wood Division Two, Jubilee Park had to share the points with Wyberton. They won three of the rinks, and should have had 10 points. Instead, though, they took only six. M Matkin’s rink dealt the crushing blow with a 13-33 success. Sibsey B against Sibsey A was a high scoring game that went 98-110 in favour of the latter (D Bridges 17-31 and C Collings 22-38). Central Park, in the danger zone, could only manage three points away at West Skirbeck (43-15 for Ivan Dilley, D Young responded with a 9-39). West End B now have a 105 points total after crushing Freiston 127-67 to earn a full house of points (B Vinter 34-21, J Fensom 31-17, E Ullyatt 33-12 and P Tracey 29-17).

In Two Wood Division Three, BBC B now have an 11-point lead after a 12-0 victory over Woodhall B (D May 26-17 and E Vere 28-19). Sleaford Road helped their cause with a 2-10 win away at Norprint (20-32 for B Earth). Norprint’s win against Kirton B still maintains their second position (38-15 for G Shipp and 30-18 for Barry Trigg).

In Three Wood Division One, Wigtoft are in the unfamiliar position of second bottom. And Burton House B capitalised with a 4-8 win (P Richardson 10-20, S Francis 9-27, M Clarke 21-10). Wyberton never gave Sibsey A much of a chance in a 95-48 win (26-9 for B Skelton, 29-7 for M Tomlin junior and 30-12 for S Reeson). Burton House A moved even closer to the title after a 10-2 win over Goodfellowship, (Richard White with a 24-5 result).  BBC A must feel they should have done better against bottom of the table Norprint. By losing 2-10, they drop to third place and have cause to rue a missed opportunity.

In Three Wood Division Two, Wrangle are now on top of a hugely competitive section. A 12-0 win over Sibsey must have given them renewed confidence (R Witherington 23-9). Woodhall were thankful for the eight points gained against Stickney. They remain second from bottom but with games in hand (23-8 for D Crabtree, 29-14 for K Robinson while A Wooding replied with a 14-28). Jubilee Park, even though they won two rinks and drew another, could only manage five points away at Swineshead. A 20-10 win for J Bouchereau lost them the aggregate. Castle are still climbing appear in with a good chance of promotion. They took 11 points at the expense of second placed West End B (28-6 for N Rodgers, 23-9 for P Ulyatt and 17-7 for S Avison 17-7). West End B’s home game against West End A resulted in the former taking eight points and moving them into second place one point clear of the A team (P Tracy with a 24-8).

In Three Wood Division Three, Gosberton let Wyberton go home with just one point (M Hammond with a 32-6 result). Donington’s troubles have continued. A big fat zero was their return at home to BBC B (best win for the visitors being J Heeds’ rink’s 9-19). Central Park are the only undefeated team in the leagues and they showed West Skirbeck their class in a 10-2 win (D Young 27-12). Friskney beat second placed Freiston 2-10 even despite a 28-11 from B Harrington. It was still insufficient after Roger Burbidge’s team banged in a 7-23 score. Freiston hit winning form away at Woodhall B (11-23 for B Harrington and 12-25 for B Nightingale).

In Three Wood Division Four, T Nixon got up a full head of steam for Kirton B with a 31-8 in their game against West End C. Kirton also gain another 10 points when defeating Mareham 10-2 (23-10 for R Bennett).

Crucial time on points-piling trail

After 11 weeks of the playing season, all matches are becoming vital in their own right. Some of the basement area teams are going to find it hard to recover sufficiently to stay in their respective divisions. But it’s just as crucial at the other end where championships are at stake.

In the two wood section, Bicker are forging ahead and are posing a threat to BBC A. It could even depend on the last game of season when these two teams play each other. West End B in Division Two seem well on the way to bounce back into Division One. In Division Three, BBC, Woodhall, Sleaford Road and Norprint all stand a chance of taking the top two places.

Division One of the three wood section appears to be in the safe hands of Burton House. It would be difficult to think they could let the title slip away from them at this stage. They are 14 points clear and beat second place BBC A this week. They surely must have the crown in sight. Division Two is a totally different picture with at least five teams pitching for the title. Only 10 points separates this quintet and with a mixed bunch of results, title honours are not in any way predictable. In Division Three, the top two seem to have it between them. Central Park and Freiston look to be on the way up. Nothing’s yet decided for the Division Four players, but Sleaford Road are having a good run of wins. However, Mareham and Kirton B appear well set for success.

The reality of the ‘Hot Shot’ feat seems to be becoming a common occurrence. Two more rinks have achieved the honour this week — J Gee, P Newton and J W Gee for Woodhall plus S Knowles, M Goodwin and J Kennedy for Mareham. Congratulations all round.

In this week’s action, in Two Wood Division One, Bicker are climbing the table after an 8-4 win at home to Wigtoft, (R Wing 34-19) and a 2-10 away win at Goodfellowship (11-32 for D Allerton, 15-31 for P Hudson). Two games were also played by BBC A. There was jubilation with an 11-1 home win against Swineshead, but away at Sleaford Road they only managed two points, (A French 32-11 and K French 30-12). Burton House took eight points from Sleaford Road the night before with an 86-78 shots win (P Richardson 28-13). Kirton moved themselves up the league two places from penultimate spot after winning 3-9 away at West End A.

In Two Wood Division Two Woodhall remain in second place despite a loss at Wyberton (S Reeson had a 41-12). West End B extended their lead at the top and put Central Park into the unsafe zone after a 2-10 away win (15-33 for J Fensom). Sibsey A are climbing slightly after a win against West Skirbeck. Relegation thoughts must be in Jubilee Park’s mind after a home defeat to Sibsey A. Even with D Oldroyd’s 32-14, a loss of 83-93 was unavoidable after D Bridges responded with a 14-33 result. Jubilee Park overcame Freiston in a bottom of the table clash (J Oldroyd with a 29-11). It’s been a busy week and Jubilee Park beat Sibsey B by two shots to give them eight points (B Buck 28-14).

In Two Wood Division Three, Sleaford Road climbed one place after an 8-4 win at home to second place Woodhall (33-6 for J Riches).

In Three Wood Division One, Burton House A put an even wider gap between themselves and BBC A after winning 10-2 when the sides met (S Asplen with a 22-10 card). Goodfellowship are climbing nicely thanks to a 9-3 win against Burton House B. This gives them a chance of second place, still with a game in hand. Norprint kept up their supporting role, despite losing against Wyberton. But it’s still going to be a big climb to stay in Division One next year. Sibsey A moved up one place following a 7-5 win over Kirton.

In Three Wood Division Two, Wrangle are down to fourth. Their success formula seems to be slipping but they are still only five points away from the leaders. There were two heavy rink losses for them against Woodhall who benefited from a 7-34 win for K Robinson and an 11-25 triumph by D Hoyes. Jubilee Park are also suffering a mid season lapse. They lost against Castle but stay in second spot. However, it’s going to be a nail-biter (L Bowser 7-25). One good win shot West End A to the top of the table, their 12-0 success over Sibsey B leaves the others spitting dust (23-11 for T Horn and 24-11 for R Blackmore). Stickney returned to form after a few weeks in the wilderness with a 12-0 win over Swineshead (A Wooding 28-15, C Clarke 22-10 and B Bellamy 22-13).

In Three Wood Division Three, Donington appear to be heading for the drop, notably on the back of a 4-8 loss against West Skirbeck (K Thorley 6-18 and B Bagley 8-24). Woodhall versus Wyberton saw eight points go to the latter. But there were no names on the Wyberton sheet, hence no details to report. Freiston banged in a 12-pointer to put them within two points of the top. This came against Gosberton (a 17-9 for J Stray and a 24-12 for K Stones).

In Three Wood Division Four Mareham were back in action after a short break and gave bottom team Sibsey C a shock with a 114-37 result to grab all 12 points (35-3 for V Scott, 33-9 for J Kennedy, 21-12 for P Smith and 25-13 for S Stephens). West End C found the sort of form they are not used to. The racked up a 12-0 win against Sleaford Road (21-11 for E Dews and a 25-7 for R Dawkes). Ten points for Sleaford Road against Kirton keeps them in top slot (M Brown 26-7, B Earth 23-11 and M Woods 9-21).

Central Park stand alone in unbeaten stakes

Only one team in the Boston and District Bowls League remains unbeaten. And that accolade goes to Central Park in Division Three of the three-wood section. And with half the season already completed they stand on the highest points total of 82.

Meanwhile in the other divisions, a clearer picture of the teams that may go down is beginning to emerge. But the battle for the top place is still wide open in nearly all divisions. Bicker, in the two-wood section, are making the biggest impression. Last week they beat BBC A and this week they saw off Burton House with a 10-2 victory.

League officials have been requested to offer a reminder that the Chestnut Homes competition for the under-25 bowlers is being held at the BBC rinks on Sunday July 16. This event features top bowlers from all over the country, with bowling starting at 9am. Anyone with a clear space in their diaries is almost certain to have an event well worth viewing.

Meanwhile, back to the domestic issues of the Boston League and in Two Wood Division One, Bicker are hitting form at the right time — two big scalps added to their totem pole in the past two weeks, Burton House being the latest (P Massingham’s rink win of 26-13 in a 92-84 victory). Swineshead are finding it hard work with only one win so far. Last week they went down at home to West End A 4-8. BBC A notched up another win away at Wigtoft. They shared the the rinks, but it was R Lewis (with a 8-29) and R West (17-33), that gave them a 22-shot aggregate win. Goodfellowship moved up two places after two wins this week, placing them in the safety zone. They won4-8 at Kirton A (13-35 for J Moore while R Woods replied with a 32-11), and then at home they beat West End A 8-4.

In Two Wood Division Two, Freiston remain second from bottom after drawing 6-6 away at Sibsey B, this via winning just one rink, B Nightingale giving them the aggregate 12-39. And then at West Skirbeck they lost 10-2 (Ivan Dilley 33-12 while D Hunn applied some pressure with a 16-44 result). Woodhall and West End B are trading big result blows punch for punch. Woodhall won at home 12-0 against Central Park (39-13 for R Dales and 35-15 for J Riglin) while West End B also won 12-0 against Wyberton (29-14 for B Vinter).

In Two Wood Division Three, BBC B opened some clear distance at the top of the table after a 12-0 victory over Kirton B (D May 34-11, R Goodale 44-10 and E Vere 37-14). Sleaford Road also overcame Kirton B 10-2 (T Bourne 34-15, B Earth 28-14 and D Taylor 28-17).

In Three Wood Division One, Burton House B won Sibsey A 8-4, an adjustment in the points now sees them in third place (D Welbourne with a 26-12 rink win). There was a big jump for Goodfellowship up from second bottom to fifth after two good wins — 12-0 against Kirton A (R Allen 23-11) and a 9-3 success over Wigtoft (J Moore 23-12 and J Templeman 27-10).  Burton House A at Wyberton won one rink and drew another, but it was the rink of M Asplen that made the difference with a 8-23 outcome, giving them four points for the aggregate. Kirton A dropped another place even after a win against Norprint. They are now third from bottom and in unfamiliar territory (C Gill 31-12).

In Three Wood Division Two, West End B shot to the top after a crushing win over previous leaders Jubilee Park. It was a 12-0 scoreline (B Vinter 23-12 and J Fensom 17-9). Swineshead moved up two places following a win over Stickney (J Boucher 30-6). A good win over out-of-form Wrangle added another eight points to Swineshead’s challenge to avoid relegation (24- 11 rink win for J Boucher). West End A are not helping Woodhall at the foot of the table. A 3-9 result puts Woodhall in a worrying position (9-22 for J Sellars). Castle are climbing nicely and a 10-2 over Stickney puts them mid table (B Bellamy with a 9-20 success).

In Three Wood Division Three, there was a first win for West Skirbeck.  Freiston were the victims in a 9-3 win (R Rutherford 22-12). Friskney are also climbing. They now sit third from top after a 10-2 win over Wyberton (N Salmon 24-13). Donington are still in the dumps. Despite a 28-13 win from K Staples, a big score of 6-36 from D Young cancelled this out. But Donington did win two rinks. Woodhall lost to BBC B by five shots.

In Three Wood Division Four, West End C shared the rinks with Kirton B. Eventually it was a close run thing on shots with the final outcome being 65-69 (A Pinnock 16-27, M Hippisley 22-16). Sleaford Road stay in top position after an 8-4 victory over West End C (F Epton 32-5 and B Earth 26-9). Mareham were back in form with a 12-0 over West End C (S Stevens 29-11, P Smith 28-8).

Positive views despite loss for table-toppers

BBC A are top of the tree in the two wood section of the Boston and District Bowls League. In their latest match they came up against Bicker. They lost the game 4-8, but up to the final wood delivered they could have won 10-2. Admiration goes to BBC captain Richard Lewis who congratulated Bicker on an enjoyable and well played game. It’s good to see this sort of attitude in our sport.

A Herrick, W West and D Sharpe of Jubilee Park also deserve commendation on picking up a “Hot Shots” award for a full house of nine points scored in one end of their game against Stickney. That’s two in two weeks — remarkable.

In Two Wood Division One, Bicker’s win over BBC A hasn’t affected the top of table places, but R Wing’s magical wood on the last end resulted in BBC’s first defeat. Swineshead managed two games this week but unfortunately took only four points from them. They lost 70-117 at home to Wigtoft and then on their travels they went down 107-66 to Burton House (S Francis led the way with a 33-13 and B Askey scored a 32-11 rink win).

In Two Wood Division Two, Woodhall were also in the three figure points scoring with a shots result of 107-73 against West Skirbeck (G Cutting 33-14). This moves Woodhall up into second place from third. Sibsey B beat their close rivals Central Park 8-4. This steers them both a little further away from the foot of the table (J Peach 28-12).

In Two Wood Division Three, even with a loss against Norprint and by collecting only three points, Woodhall moved to the top of table on equal points with BBC B (R Loughran for Norprint 32-19). BBC B slipped up at home to Sleaford Road. They could have moved clear of Woodhall with a win, but only managed two points (D Taylor 15-38, B Earth 12-36).

Over in Three Wood Division One, Wyberton moved up the table despite winning only once from two matches on their schedule. At home they beat Kirton A 8-4 but then they lost out at home to Burton House B, albeit only by one shot for a two rinks apiece outcome and an overall score of 57-58. It’s Burton House that now lead the three wood section after two wins this week. Their second success came against challengers BBC A. It was a bit of a “crusher” with a score of 94-55 (Morris Kemp with a 32-6 win and M Chester 31-12).

In Three Wood Division Two, Jubilee Park had an 11-1 win over Woodhall to take a six-point lead in Division Two (D Sharpe 25-7 and K Manley 23-11). Castle moved up one place from an unfamiliar third from bottom slot via an 8-4 over West End A (S Avison 24-8). But this win was not capitalised on when a 12-0 loss followed away at West End B. Wrangle have lost the lead position after a couple of bad results. But it’s still looking like they are on the comeback trail when beating Stickney 8-4 (R Witherington 23-7).

In Three Wood Division Three, Friskney put Donington into more bottom of the table troubles. Friskney won a home game 12-0 (V Grala 34-5, R Crofts 32-13 and T Bullen 19-8 led the rink wins). West Skirbeck are still trying to find that first elusive win. They were defeated 2-10 by Gosberton and then lost to Woodhall B 8-4. But the shots score was 69-68 — as close as it gets. Freiston are pushing hard for promotion. Away at Wyberton they won 2-10, which keeps them in second place (K Stones 7-29 and I Smith 11-24).

In Three Wood Division Four, Kirton beat Sibsey C 9-3 and thanks largely to Marie Woods’ rink with a 37-6 success.

Road trio revel in ‘Hot-Shots’ feat

A rare occurrence took place in Sleaford Road’s home Three Wood Division Four match against Mareham. The rink of R Hobart, T Taylor and D Taylor, scored a full house of nine shots. This, of course, enables them to claim from Bowls International the title of  “Hot Shots”. They will be awarded a medal and certificate for their efforts in due course. Congratulations go to all three.

As the weeks gradually go by, the stronger sides are widening the gap between themselves and the weaker ones. Kirton B in the two wood section have only amassed nine points from seven games. Donington in the three wood section have mustered just four more (13 points from seven games). At the other end of the scale, Central Park have the highest cumulative score from eight games — a total of 74 points with no defeats.

A note of caution to all clubs. Be aware that one of the league’s member clubs has suffered the theft of ground equipment, mowers, scarifier and mechanical tools — a raid that seemed well planned and organised.

In Two Wood Division One, Burton House are coming on strong again after a 2-10 win away at West End A (M Kemp, J Sivill and P Richards leading the winning rinks). Bicker also had a big win away at Swineshead by 2-10 and 79-107 (N Wing won 17-30 along with a 15-33 by another pair whose names were unreadable on the score sheet).

In Two Wood Division Two, West End B soldier on undefeated. Even with a player short they beat Sibsey A 2-10, but only just, C Russell putting in a frightener with a rink win of 29-15. Woodhall put themselves within reach of the top after picking up 20 points this week — 10-2 against Freiston (36-19 for D Crabtree), and the following night 10-2 against Jubilee Park (G Salmon 27-8, R Dales 36-15). Central Park came up against an in-form Wyberton (M Atkin taking a 8-39 and B Skelton 15-27).

In Two Wood Division Three, BBC hold onto the lead after winning away at Norprint. There were three amazing rinks for W Mortlock 11-26, E Vere 15-29 and M Stares 10-32. Kirton are suffering badly this season and are yet to win a game. They went down 2-10 to Woodhall and 73-126 on shots (D McNaughton 16-33, D Bradshaw 17-28 and C Smith 11-41). It looks like a toe-to-toe battle for top spot between Burton House A and BBC A. Burton House A defeated club-mates Burton House B 2-10 while BBC defeated Wyberton 10-2. Just one point now separates these two teams, 60 to 59. Norprint, unless their fortunes change, are looking already at the drop zone. Sibsey beat them 4-8. Rinks were shared, two each. Sibsey scraped in with a shots total of 77-79. Wigtoft won three rinks, but had to settle for a draw when losing the aggregate 67-72 due to the rink of R Woods with an 11-33 result.

In Three Wood Division Two, Wrangle are playing a strange programme. After no defeats from four games, they have now lost heavily in the last two. And there were no points for them away at rivals West End A (E Ulyatt 25-5).
Jubilee Park also suffered a surprise defeat at Sibsey B. They lost by just one shotin throwing away the aggregate 65-64. It seems to have been a tough and close game. West End B lost to a stronger Swineshead side (G Dawson 8-18 and M Nichols 7-19). Stickney lost out at home to West End A 3-9. C Clarke had the best home result 23-15. it was a strange game at Castle. Woodhall won three rinks, but lost out heavily on the aggregate 84-62, this due to S Avison winning the only home rink by a remarkable margin of 42-3.

In Three Wood Division Three, Central Park (still undefeated from eight games) saw off the challenge of Friskney with ease by a 10-2 scoreline. Gosberton must have liked it at Woodhall. They went home with 11 points, albeit with no fantastic scores from what seems to have been a close game. West Skirbeck are working hard to get themselves away from the basement area of the table. They won two rinks and drew a third. It should have been points in the bag but a heavy defeat of 7-25 from E Lewis saw the aggregate spoils drift away.

In Three Wood Division Four, as mentioned at the top of this report, Sleaford Road are putting it together after a shaky start. They gave Mareham a good seeing off with a 12-0 result, the highlight of which was the “Hot Shot” rink of R Hobart, T Taylor and D Taylor.

Maximum haul, but Burton still trail leaders

The past week in the Boston and District Bowls League has been a mixed one. Most fixtures managed to be played and reach conclusions. But torrential downpours waterlogged a few greens and some encounters had to be abandoned.

In Two Wood Division One, Burton House collected a good 12 points from their win at home to Goodfellowship. This still, though, leaves them 24 points adrift of BBC A (there was a 31-21 rink win for R White). BBC A recorded another 10-point haul this week against West End A. So far this season they have scored two 12-pointers and four 10s. In this latest win, the highlight was a 35-13 rink win for K N Grant.

In Two Wood Division Two, Wyberton (currently in second place) beat Sibsey B 10-2 and 94-84 on shots. West End B defeated Woodhall 8-4 to keep them top of the table (J Fensom 29-18 and R Tracey 33-13 while R Dales replied with a 14-25). West Skirbeck showed no sympathy for Jubilee Park’s hard season when they beat them 12-0 and by a shots margin of 115-36 (J Whyers 27-9, R Rutherford 43-6 and I Dilley 29-9). Meanwhile, Sibsey A took three rinks away from Freiston with a shots win of 91-81.

In Two Wood Division Three Kirton B have had a quite season, only seven points gained from six games. It was a case of just two more added this week at home to Norprint (J Stainton 9-38, S Copeland 9-32). Sleaford Road picked up their second win at the expense of title challengers Norprint, albeit in a tight 85-81 shots win. BBC B moved ahead of Woodhall after beating them at Woodhall 2-10 (J Meeds 6-26).

In Three Wood Division One, Burton House B beat bottom team Norprint 11-1. This keeps them in contention for honours. BBC A could do with a few 10-pointers. They lost top place to Burton House after defeating Kirton 8-4 (B Hooker 20-9).

In Three Wood Division Two, West End A are making some ground up the charts after defeating current leaders Wrangle. It was a convincing win by 10-2 (G Barnes 19-8, J Sellars 24-8). Swineshead had their first win of the season away at Sibsey B 4-8 (J Bouchereau on form with a rink win of 11-23).

In Three Wood Division Three Wyberton added another 10 points nd in doing so kept their promotion hopes alive, this at the expense of West Skirbeck (N Blakey 24-14 and K Woods 24-12). Donington had a blank sheet at home to Woodhall. They lost all four rinks and certainly need to change up a gear to avoid the drop.

Central Park are going from strength to strength with seven wins from seven games. These this week Woodhall were the victims. But it was a mightily close thing on the aggregate 79-78, due mainly to H Stanley of Woodhall winning by 9-25. Freiston are also maintaining their winning streak. This time a 9-3 win against BBC B kept them in second place.

In Three Wood Division Four, Sleaford Road will be happy after an 11-1 victory over Sibsey C. This moves them to top of the table, but they have played more games than their main rivals.

Week ending June 9

Welcome 10 points as Road’s run rolls on

In Two Wood Division One, Sleaford Road are still maintaining their winning run of form. But it’s a lack of double figure points returns that is keeping them adrift of leaders BBC A. In fact, to illustrate the fact, this week saw them gain their first 10-point return when beating Swineshead. Kirton A suffered badly at home to Bicker, losing three rinks and collecting only two points.

Wigtoft are also finding it difficult this year having always been up with the top three in previous seasons. Their form has simply left them this year. Their game against Sleaford Road was one of the closest, to be recorded — Wigtoft won two rinks and drew a third, but Sleaford Road still took the aggregate 83-84. Goodfellowship were the receiving end of BBC A’s winning form (a rink win of 15-28 for skip K N Grant while S Whyers won 13-34)

In Two Wood Division Two, just one rink let down Wyberton in a 2-10 win away at Sibsey A (J Peach for Sibsey got a 32-11 result to avoid a whitewash). Jubilee Park are struggling at the moment. After a first week win they have since only collected eight points in four games. And two more losses came this week. Both were at home, 2-10 against Central Park and 2-10 against West End B. West Skirbeck defeated Sibsey B where Ivan Dilley suffered an unexpected loss while B Bagley picked up a 29-12 result.

In Two Wood Division Three, Woodhall beat Sleaford Road 8-4 (D MacNaughton 34-12). BBC B made some ground on leaders Woodhall with a 0-12 win away at Kirton B (wins for D May 10-31, R Goodale 13-25, E Vere 13-32 and E Lee 18-37 in a solid team effort).

In Three Wood Division One, there was a close game and win for Sibsey A away at Wigtoft. The score was 74-75, this with Sibsey winning three rinks. Three results came in for Burton House. First was a 6-6 draw against Wigtoft, the latter winning on just one rink — but this was a 7-20 result. Their second match against Kirton was a whitewash 12-0 and against Norprint they won 10-2 (K Porter 36-8, S Asplen 35-12). This in turn shoots them up into the top position. BBC A aren’t laying down yet. A 4-8 win away at Goodfellowship keeps them in touch with a game in hand.

In Three Wood Division Two Roy Rout topped the scores in a home win for Stickney, romping in with a 29-12 result in their 10-2 win. Sibsey B couldn’t hold Castle even though Tony Harrison recorded a 21-8 win. This simply couldn’t better scores of 11-25 for N Coupland and 11-17 for S Avison. Wrangle continued their charge for Division One games next season. A 10-2 win against Jubilee Park fully illustrated their determination.

West End B’s J Fensom cruised home with a 24-6 scoreline and P Tracey had a 25-12 to seal the winning spoils against against Sibsey B. Elsewhere, Swineshead, yet to win a game, helped Woodhall to their first win by just a two-shot (66-68). Jubilee Park remain in second place after a 10-2 win against West End A 23-9 F Manley.

In Three Wood Division Three, BBC B beat Wyberton 9-3 thanks mainly to a 26-10 from J Meeds. Gosberton overwhelmed visitors Friskney 12-0 (B Brerose 27-15, S Cousins 23-12, T Davies 15-9 and M Greet 20-14). Central Park remain undefeated this season. A good win against Freiston sees them on track for promotion aspirations.

In Three Wood Division Four Sleaford Road took three rinks away from Kirton B (an 11-26 for D Taylor and 9-20 for T Bourn).

Victory at last for Swineshead

In Two Wood Division One, Swineshead at last got a win. It came in the match when they entertained Goodfellowship. And it yielded a full house of 10 points in a 93-91 thriller. J Templeman came close to nicking the aggregate with a 14-33.

Wigtoft are beginning to come good after a slow start. An away win at West End A gave them 10 points. Bicker are also on a charge, beating undefeated Sleaford Road 99-84 and collecting eight points in the process. Unusually for Burton House, they lost at home to Kirton. Winning just one rink. They went down 2-10

In Two Wood Division Two, Woodhall moved into second place after a 10-2 win against Sibsey B. Wyberton are on the same points after adding 10 against Freiston. Top rink wins here came from Mick Atkin (34-16), J Elleray (30-13) and M Dodes (33-9).

West Skirbeck had to settle for a draw against West End who, in the process, stayed on top. J Rutherford was the only winner for Skirbeck but it made the difference on the aggregate with a 33-16 scorecard.

Central Park won the aggregate 86-80 against Sibsey A, giving them the eight points and a second win. It was a much different story, though, for West Skirbeck against Wyberton. They had a massive 126-59 win (rink wins here of 44-6 for I Dilley, 34-13 for B Bagley and 33-12 by R Rutherford.

In Two Division Three, Kirton B came unstuck at home to Sleaford Road, who took their first win of the season by a 76-98 margin to collect 12 points.

In Three Wood Division One, BBC A are showing signs of championship flair. They won 9-3 at Wigtoft. Norprint are still to win a game. Their latest outing was also against Wigtoft who waltzed off home with all 10 points.

There was a good win for Goodfellowship at Sibsey A. And the 10 points earned keeps them in touch. Sibsey are still without a win.

In Three Wood Division Two, Swineshead have only three points so far and they went down again in their latest match, this time 11-1 at West End A who had 25-7 rink win for G Barnes and a 28-8 scorecard by J Sellars.

Woodhall entertained Sibsey B. The rinks were shared but Sibsey took eight points thanks to a 64-72 aggregate.

In Three Wood Division Three, Freiston are producing some magnificent form and a 12-0 win against Donington gives them 42 points from four games (R Matson 26-10, B Nightingale 37-7 and J Stray 38-6). At home to Gosberton, Donington won one and drew another rink but only collected three points. S Cousins did the most damage with a 9-20 result.

It was a mixed week for Friskney. First they won 2-10 at West Skirbeck but then lost by the same margin at home to BBC B.

Central Park are in top position after five wins from five outings. Wyberton were their latest victims, but only by a one shot away win aggregate of 58-59.

BBC A keep up relentless run of success

In the Two Wood section BBC A seem to be firmly on track for a season of success. They already have 44 points from four games, dropping only four in the process. And this achievement has already put them 14 points clear of second placed West End A.

In the Three Wood section, meanwhile, Burton House B are playing well at the moment and they lead the top division table on 31 points, five clear of second placed Wyberton.

Last week was notable for the large volume of high scoring games with little thought that such marks could be bettered. But in Sibsey B’s home Two Wood Division Two clash with West End B, the rink of S Hippesley, K Swain and skip J Fensom for the visitors attained a remarkable score of 4-60 — a stunning average of 3.6 shots. Over a full 18 ends, the scorecard would have made very interesting reading!

In Two Wood Division One, BBC A extended their lead with a 10-2 win over last year’s champions Burton House even through the shots scores were close at 96-91. Wigtoft shared the rinks with Goodfellowship, but the scores of 26-14 from A Saunby and 30-18 from M Clark won them the aggregate. Kirton A came out convincing winners over Swineshead 104-79 (a 35-16 card for J Evans). West End A are in second place on 27 points. Even though they lost the home game to Sleaford 4-8, it could have been a lot worse if the last wood of Colin Palmer had been played, the end was lost to a measure.

In Two Wood Division Two, Wyberton kept their challenge alive after a 10-2 win over Jubilee Park. Woodhall are second place after a 10-2 win against Sibsey A. High scoring rinks were by J W Gee 38-12 and J Riglin 32-19. As mentioned previously, one rink in the Sibsey B team suffered a tremendous loss by 56 shots, one of the widest margins seen in the league’s recent history. It, of course, helped West End B to carry the aggregate, and sees them 13 points clear at the top of the table.

In Two Wood Division Three, Norprint suffered their first loss of the campaign against Woodhall who, in the process, remain unbeaten. Norprint still top the table by virtue of playing one more game than second place Woodhall. Another game that saw the scores counted up on a calculator involved Sleaford Road against BBC B. The result was heavy on shots, namely 96-106. But it also contained two rinks of hugely varying fortunes — W Mortlock’s team winning 7-57 for BBC while, for Sleaford Road, J Riches’ set won 45-9.

In Three Wood Division One, BBC A’s win over Sibsey 10-2 moves them up into third place. Burton House B are making remarkable progress. They top the table on 31 points. And a 2-10 win away at Kirton A proves their determined mood (a rink win of 4-29 for S Francis being a highlight).

In Three Wood Division Three, Wyberton now are making steady progress after a shaky start. They grabbed their second win at the expense of Gosberton and earned another 10 points in the process. Donington were then another victim of a Wyberton side playing two matches in a few days. Top rinks scores here went to B Skelton 11-29, A Westrop 12-24 and N Blakey 6-32. Central Park are still going strong in undefeated fashion. And after four games they lead the way with 38 points. BBC B came in with a strong challenge. They shared the rinks but lost out by just two shots 63-61 (top rink wins for D Young 24-9 and E Lewis 8-22).

In Three Wood Division Four, Mareham are top of the table after another 2-10 win away at West End C (top rink wins here for E Dews 28-13, S Kennedy 9-17 and P Smith 8-17). Sibsey C came oh so close with a 56-57 reverse at home to Kirton B. Skip J Dellecott and his team did most of the damage with a 6-18 result. Sibsey C, from a game played on May 10 against Sleaford Road, registered a 10-point win (R Hoskin 22-10 and J Peach 23-6).

Unbeaten records rolling on in week of high scores

Eleven teams maintained 100 percent records during the past week and others chalked up some really impressive scores. But on the down side it was amazing to see some of the low aggregate four-rink scores returned!

In Two Wood Division One, BBC are sticking closely to their game plan for the season, that being to win them all. It was a case of three on the trot for them this week. But only a 10-pointer after two previous 12s. Losing just one rink at home to Kirton, they are now 10 points clear at the top of the table Burton House who beat Wigtoft with a strong score of 102 to 67 (a 33-11 win for J Cammack). West End A overcame the challenge from Bicker by seven shots, winning 88-81 — all close rinks with margins of ones and twos (J Sellars 23-17). Bicker overwhelmed Goodfellowship 117-86 (P Massingham 33-21, and R Wing 41-12). Goodfellowship then lost a close game at home to Sleaford Road. A score of 94-95 saw Sleaford Road take nine points.

In Two Wood Division Two, West End B is showing good form. Winning away at Freiston gave them their third 10-pointer (J Fensom 13-28). Central Park out-shot West Skirbeck 108-67 (D Young 35-12, C Newham 30-15). It was very much a case of home games f
