Round-up for week ending August 9

2 wood league division 1

BBC I 8 (99), BBC II 4 (74): A split result for the Robin Hoods walk derby with creditable results for B skips Rob Goodale and Eric Lewis.

Burton House A 8 (101), Woodhall Town 4 (79): Foot off the pedal time for Burton House, with visiting skips John Gee and Ray Dales picking up points.

Sleaford Road 8 (85), Kirton A 4 (79): Only six points separated these two strong sides, who will finish just behind the inevitable winners.

West End B 2 (62), Bicker 10 (97): Dave Allerton’s rink won 35-10, whilst Diane & Pete Bedford with Derek Robins got the consolation points.

Wigtoft 8 (86), West End A 4 (86): The Wigtoft heroes won on three rinks, only for Norma Barnes, Gerry Myers and Ray Blackamore to win 25-13 and take half the aggregate.

2 wood league division 2

West Skirbeck 12 (95), Sibsey A 0 (64): A comprehensive win for a strong Skirbeck side. The biggest win was a 25-10 from skip Rob Rutherford.

Swineshead 10 (113), Sleaford Road 2 (70): Notable was a 44-5 from Eileen May, E Rimmer and R Turner.

Woodhall Town 4 (82), Jubilee Park 8 (92): Park narrowly edged this local derby, but only by 10 shots.

West Skirbeck 2 (73), Burton House B 10 (95): Result in from week 13.

Norprint 0 (66), Freiston 12 (98): Skips Derek Hunn, Jim Walker, Keith Posey and Barry Nightingale left Norprint in no doubt who was boss.

Kirton B 0 (57), Burton House B 12 (118): Big wins on all rinks should ensure the visitors play in the top division next season.

3 wood league division 1

Stickney 0 (56), Goodfellowship 12 (78): Relegation is a virtual certainty for bottom club Stickney, whereas the Fosdyke side are finishing strongly

Jubilee Park 10 (74), Kirton A 2 (57): No details.

BBC I 8 (75), Wigtoft 4 (67): A narrow defeat for the visitors, in spite of a strong home 25-6 from B Beal, Alan West and Jonathan West.

Burton House B 10 (88), Woodhall Town 2 (61): Still on course to be champions if it ever stops raining!

Wyberton 2 (45), Sibsey 10 (61): A top result for the visitors against top quality opposition with Eileen Brown, Derek Grainger and Alan Woods winning 21-10.

3 wood league division 2

Castle 8 (83), Mareham 4 (52): Castle head upwards with Gordon Wells, L Bowser and A Watson posting a 34-6

Swineshead 4 (58), West End A 8 (75): Making the difference for the visitors were Jenny Holmes, Norma Barnes and Ray Blackamore who scored 24-9

Wyberton 8 (70), Wrangle 4 (69): Only one shot separated the aggregate, with a big win for Bernard Skelton’s rink, 28-9 being nearly matched by Joe White for the visitors.

West End B 11 (85), Freiston 1 (45): The visitors were not at their best for this fixture, home skip Norman Ablard winning 31-4.

3 wood league division 3

Boston Park 4 (59), BBC II 8 (79).

Woodhall Town 8 (69), Sleaford Road 4 (61).

Donington 0 (26), West Skirbeck 12 (67): In a rain sodden match, the visitors move steadily towards division 2, Barry Bagley’s rink winning 22-3 .

Kirton B 10 (76), Friskney 2 (65): A slip up for high-flyers Friskney should not damage the promotion plans.

Sibsey C 2 (62), Sibsey B 10 (97): Derek Cooper, John Gash and Rosemary Hoskin won 28-9.

Round-up for week ending August 2

2 wood section division 1

West End A 2 (83), West End B 10 (92): It looks as though West End B will finish the stronger of the two sides. The A side still need points to retain their status.

BBC I 2 (84), Sleaford Road 10 (101): Sleaford Road still vie for runners up status. The win over BBC was closer than the 10 points indicates, with no big results.

Burton House A 10 (105), Kirton 2 (74): A 31-6 from Richard Whittaker, Ted Tasker and Ken Porter brought Kirton back down to earth. Getting the consolation points for the visitors were Brian Bates, Dave Gill and Brian Bannister.

Woodhall Town 2 (59), Bicker 10 (122): For the visitors, Rod Slaughter, Roy Bourne and Paul Massingham posted a score of 45-9.

Wigtoft 10 (118), BBC II 2 (65): We record a notable 35-11 win for Pauline Craft, John Murphy and Ali Saunby, together with a 35-14 for Seamus Rooney, John Craft and Graham Wilkinson.

2 wood section division 2

Sibsey 0 (75), Burton House B 12 (123): The cupboard was bare this time for Sibsey, as Burton House B collect a maximum.

West Skirbeck 8 (95), Woodhall Town 4 (80): A 43-9 from Rob Day’s rink was notable in this result, which keeps Skirbeck tucked in behind the leaders out of any real danger of promotion.

Jubilee Park 9 (110), Swineshead 3 (75): Second placed Jubilee Park brought Swineshead down to earth, with Craig Aitken’s rink winning 42-9.

Sleaford Road 8 (96), Freiston 4 (88): A slight easing off from Freiston this week allowed Sleaford road a lion’s share of the points. George Phillips, with Dan and Thelma Taylor won 30-11, and skips Tony Bush (home) and Derek Hunn (away) shared a 23-35 result.

Kirton B 0 (67), Norprint 12 (105): Norprint continue to finish strongly, but may well miss out on promotion. Skip B Shaw posted a 31-16 win and R Hulley gained a 30 -13.

In spite of having very little inclement weather this year, compared to the last two seasons, we have had a sudden outbreak of difficulties in fulfilling fixtures. Strictly speaking, inclement weather is the only reason that fixtures may be called off, but beyond that matters need clarifying. As we are in the business of enjoying playing bowls, I feel that there is little to be gained from refusing to rearrange a game if it is possible to do so. However, the point that I am keen to emphasise is that there is no mechanism for teams to claim points from the opposition, or to indeed to give them points. Rules 13, 14, 15 and 20 cover this adequately.

3 wood section division 1

Wyberton 12 (76), Stickney 0 (54): The cupboard was bare again for Stickney, who put up a good show on most rinks but gained no reward. The biggest home winners were Alex Tomlin, Dave Heron and Mick Tomlin with 22-14. Both teams are struggling with manpower shortages.

Sibsey 2 (53), Wigtoft 10 (64): A narrow win for the Wigtoft heroes against Sibsey, including a 21-12 from Seamus Rooney, John Craft and Graham Wilkinson.

BBC I 10 (65), Jubilee Park 2 (57): BBC I are still just off the pace after this narrow win over lowly Jubilee Park. The biggest win went to visiting skip Frank Manley with a 22-7, which got quite close to the aggregate.

Woodhall Town 4 (65), Goodfellowship 8 (83): The Fosdyke team maintain their good form, with Richard Allen helping Shirley and Joe Moore to a 29-8 win. Town skips Keith Robinson and Brian Connelly got the four points for the visitors.

Kirton A 2 (54), Burton House B 10 (54): Possibly the winners and the runners up featured in this game.

3 wood section division 2

Freiston 10 (92), Swineshead 2 (38): Kirstie Sanson, Christine Nightingale and John Stray posted a 28-10 in a one sided game. Gill Dawson, Derek Armstrong and Geoff Dawson grabbed a one shot consolation for the visitors.

Mareham 6 (81), Norprint 6 (61): Norprint won narrowly on three rinks for six points in this re-arranged week 8 fixture. However,  they reckoned without a 37-6 win for Philip Lees, Joe Horton and captain Pete Smith to gather the remaining rink points and aggregate points by a 20 shot margin. Good going.

West End A 4 (59), Wrangle 8 (63): Wrangle continue to go well, maintaining a mid table position. In a very close game the points could have gone either way.

Castle 6 (72), West End B 6 (62): The two top sides shared the points, Castle winning the aggregate thanks to a 29-9 from Tom Scholey, Les Bowser and either Gordon or George Wells.

3 wood section division 3

Sibsey C 2 (53), BBC II 10 (83): This week 13 result shows only George Bulman’s rink getting on the score sheet for the home side. Big away results were registered by skips Ab. Houlden 22-8 and Phil Markham 20-9

Sleaford Road 12 (83), Donington 0 (58): A full house for Road skips Tony Bush, Mick Brown, Neil Harrison and Ted Bourne keep them nicely in mid-table.

Friskney 10 (76), BBC II 2 (71): Friskney stay top due to a 5 shot win over BBC II

Boston Park 4 (56), Woodhall Town 8 (65): Woodhall keep in touch with the leaders, Carolyn Smith’s rink winning 27-13, and one set only scoring 21 shots between the two sides.

Sibsey B 10 (55), West Skirbeck 2 (42): A 10 for Sibsey B steadies second placed Skirbeck. Will Skirbeck skilfully avoid promotion again?

Round-up for week ending July 25

2 wood section division 1

Kirton 12 (113), Woodhall Town 0 (72): Kirton have hit a rich vein of form and could end up runners up. Glynne Goringe, Gordon Harris and Geoff Parker contributed a 35-18.

West End B 12 (111), BBC II 0 (76): West End put valuable space between themselves and the second relegation spot, aided and abetted by a 32-19 from Keith Swain with Sheila Peter Tracey.

Burton House A 10 (105), Sleaford Road 2 (77): It is difficult to see anyone stopping Burton House now. Strength in depth is what the other squads seems to lack. Maybe the transfer season will bring about a change.

Bicker 12 (112), West End A 0 (49): There is danger of relegation for the West End A string. Home skips Wayne Phoenix, Dave Allerton, Paul Massingham and Paul Hudson all put in crushing wins.

BBC I 6 (85), Wigtoft 6 (84): Two teams safe in mid-table fought out a close draw. The only win for BBC, a 35-10 from Alan Buxton, Mike Campion and Captain Arnold Bennett was enough for the aggregate as well.

2 wood section division 2

Freiston 12 (124), Kirton B 0 (55): Another good result was recorded for Freiston. Jim Walker and Mark Brown’s rinks both recorded over 30 shots, with the others not too far behind.

Sibsey 4 (77), Norprint 8 (84): Another close result went in favour of the visitors.

Woodhall Town 2 (75), Swineshead 10 (93): The two wood version of Swineshead continue to do well, with Daryll Gardiner’s rink contributing a 28-17.

Sleaford Road 2 (61), Jubilee Park 10 (100): Likely promotion candidates Jubilee Park got a good result down Peck Avenue. George Phillips with Thelma and Dan Taylor got the consolation points for the home team.

No result submitted for West Skirbeck v. Burton House B.

3 wood section division 1

The week 12 result from Fosdyke shows Goodfellowship 8 (62), Wigfoft 4 (61).

Wigtoft 10 (77), Stickney 2 (48): Stickney 2 is becoming par for the course these days, with Carol Clarke, Michael Hutton and Jeff Nicholson winning this week. Rodney Kelk, John Murphy and Ali Saunby grasped a one shot milestone win.

Kirton A 12 (80), Woodhall Town 0 (44): Kirton head firmly for the runners-up spot with this result, Geoff Parker’s rink being the biggest winners again.

Burton House 12 (68), Jubilee Park 0 (45): Another steady performance but no big scores at all, with House skips Mick Asplen, Ken Porter, Richard White and Rob Askey winning steadily.

BBC I 10 (72), Sibsey 2 (51): BBC I stay third with Pete Clark, Ivor Brown and Alan Woods getting the visitors points.

Goodfellowship 10 (78), Wyberton 2 (61): Steady in mid-table, the Fosdyke side recorded a good win against a team who could have won this division. Gary Johnson, with Colin and Stella Baxter winning 29-6 against a strong rink.

3 wood section division 2

Burton House B 10 (68), West End B 2 (52): A week 12 result shows narrow rink wins grabbing more valuable points for Burton House.

Castle 10 (65), Burton House B 2 (47): However, it was back to the drawing board at rampant leaders Castle. Tony Wells, Peter Ulyatt and Brian Sweet posting a 20-9 win.

Freiston 6 (63), West End A 6 (63): Another perfect draw. Ian Smith and Barry Nightingale’s rinks won at home, with Ralph Sawer and Ray Blackamore skipping their teams to balance the points and aggregate.

West End B 12 (93), Swineshead 0 (38): A predictable result for top vs. bottom, with a 28-11 from Sheila and Peter Tracey with Ken Hamblyn.

Wrangle 9 (58), Norprint 3 (56).

Mareham v Wyberton will be played on August 6

3 wood section division 3

Sleaford Road 4 (51), West Skirbeck 8 (76): A 26-7 win for Ken Sharman, Terry Davidson and Peter Hoyles aided by a 33-5 from Barbara Mills, John Whyers and Derek Wright got Skirbeck the bulk of the points.

Woodhall Town 12 (82), Donington 0 (46): Ian Aitken, Audrey Brown and Ernie Brown won 30 shots to 10 in this whitewash.

Kirton B 6 (59), Sibsey B 6 (62): A close outcome though the home team won three rinks, the aggregate was won by John Gash, John Hodgson and John Goodson with a 28-6.

Boston Park 7 (70), Friskney 5 (67): A close encounter between leaders Friskney and bottom club Park, with no rink winning by more than five shots. Lou Rice’s rink won by one for the visitors, as did Malc Sands’ rink. Dave Young’s rink won by 5 for the park, whilst Peter Simpson and Tony Bullen drew. I hope that there was not too much of a post-mortem about the aggregate.

No results from Week 12: Sibsey B v BBC II; Week 13 Sibsey C v BBC II. Any Clues please?

Round-up for week ending July 18

Still to be added

Round-up for week ending July 11

This was possibly the poorest week for weather of the season so far, yet creditably all games were played and remarkably all results were returned on time.

2 wood section division 1

The result sheet for the week 10 match BBC II v Burton House A shows the result was 12-0 to the visitors, with the aggregate at 52-129.

Sleaford Road 9 (89), Woodhall Town 3 (76): Three creditable points were gained by Woodhall Town in a close match. John Gee’s rink drew and Brian Connelly’s won by one. Only Craig Spencer, Colin Palmer and Keith French pulled any trees up in Peck Avenue winning 24-15.

Kirton A 10 (113), BBC II 2 (69): Gordon Harris, Peter Copeland and Geoff Parker won very heavily, 41-8, and Rob Goodale, assisted by R. Sharp and A. Batchelor won by ten shots to get some points for the Peacocks.

Burton House A 10 (129), West End A 2 (68): Burton House nose slowly ahead with this win. Richard Whittaker, Ted Tasker and Ken Porter won 40-17, with Harold Philpott helping Jenny and Ron Holmes to a 25-20 win to get West End some points.

BBC I 2 (86), Bicker 10 (89): Only three shots separated the two sides, thanks to a big win by home captain Arnold Bennett, but Bicker skips Nick Wing, Paul Massingham and Dave Allerton did enough to bag the extra 4 points.

West End B 2 (78), Wigtoft 10 (83): This was a game where no one won by more than five shots. Skips Pip Clark, Graham Wilkinson and Ali Saunby won for Wigtoft.

2 wood section division 2

West Skirbeck 10 (93), Freiston 2 (75): Both team are mid-table contenders, and Skirbeck did well to get the bulk of the points. Janet and John Whyers, with John Stevens won 27-18, while Tracey Hills, Gordon Gallichan and Ivan Dilley won 25-16.

Jubilee Park 2 (94), Sibsey 10 (99): Ten good points should help Sibsey away from the lower reaches of the division, and dent the hope of promotion for Jubilee Park. Sibsey won three rinks, and narrowly won the aggregate in spite of a 39-9 win for skip N. Stoddart’s home rink. Home captain Harold Best’s rink won 39-15 tp achieve this.

Woodhall Town 9 (89), Sleaford Road 3 (79): No report details.

Swineshead 12 (129), Kirton B 0 (47): With results like this, Swineshead should soon be approaching a place in the promotion spots. The biggest win was for Eileen May, Edna Rimmer and Reg Turner.

Norprint 2 (83), Burton House B 10 (98): Another comprehensive win for the Wainfleet Road second string, with Ron Thacker, Mark Bennett and Dave Hazelgrove gaining 40 shots.

3 wood section division 1

Stickney 2 (56), Sibsey 10 (80): The win for Sibsey in the local derby should help keep their head above water. Eileen Brown, Keith Woods and Derek Grainger won 27-6 for the visitors, whereas once again Penny Giles, with David and Steve Todd won for the home team.

Jubilee Park 10 (78), Woodhall Town 2 (68): Narrow rink wins for skips Frank Manley, B Buck and J Wyatt were enough to gain the bulk of the points in the second local derby of the week.

Burton House A 8 (81), Wyberton 4 (62): Two top teams contested a close contest. Skips Pete Asplen and Mick Asplen won for the home side, with the latter’s 30-9 ensuring the aggregate. Skips Simon Reeson and M Tomlin won for Wyberton.

Kirton A 8 (81), Wigtoft 4 (59): Kirton will go second as a result of this score. Peter Copeland and Geoff Parker, this time with Chris Gill won 32-8, whilet skips Graham Wilkinson and Pip Clark got four valuable points for the visitors.

BBC I 10 (87), Goodfellowship 2 (41): Skip A Batchelor dropped only one end while winning 39-3. The hot rink of Don Ebbage with Shirley and Joe Moore got the points for the visitors.

3 wood section division 2

Freiston 6 (68), Mareham 6 (70): There is often debate in the bowling world as to how much attention should be paid to the aggregate score, when the game is tight. On this occasion Freiston won closely or well through skips John Stray, Barry Nightingale and Ian Smith, only to lose the aggregate comprehensively to Mareham’s Ann Wickens, Stuart Knowles and Steve Stephens at 31-9. However, if someone had chased the aggregate, rink points may have been lost. Who knows?

Swineshead 2 (56), Norprint 10 (67): Swineshead are not as strong in this section as in the 2 wood game. They are well adrift in the table. Norprint are in a healthy mid-table after this game.

West End B 10 (83), West End A 2 (66): The B team edge steadily towards promotion, while the A are in mid-table. The biggest win of the night went to the A teams Derek Butwright, Mick Hippisley and Ray Blackamore.

Wyberton 8 (72), Burton House B 4 (60): Wins for skips Ivan Kisby and Tina Reeson were enough to help Wyberton to try to escape the relegation zone.

Castle 9 (71), Wrangle 3 (63): Firstly, our regrets go out to Castle BC that their pavilion has been destroyed by fire. I hope that the bowling leagues rally round to help any rearrangement of fixtures necessary to go smoothly. In spite of the distraction, Castle managed a creditable win to remain second.

3 wood section division 3

The missing week 10 result shows BBC II 10 (75), Donington 2 (50).

Sleaford Road 4 (57), BBC II 8 (71): A 26-9 win from C Cunningham, B Sansam and J Meads was enough to clinch the aggregate.

Woodhall Town 10 (99), West Skirbeck 2 (53): This was a comprehensive win for Woodhall Town, with Alan Raymond, Terry Cockerill and Duncan MacNaughtan winning 37-12 at home.

Boston Park 4 (58), Sibsey B 8 (71): This was a close game on three rinks, with Margaret and Gordon Wells skipped by Rosemary Hoskin making the difference for the visitors.

Donington 10 (71), Kirton B 2 (61): Brian Bates, Lesley Woods and Graham Slack did well for the visitors, but rink wins for home skips K Staples, G Simpson and M. Laidler were enough for Donington to gain valuable points.

Sibsey C 8 (76), Friskney 4 (73): Friskney stay well clear at the top after this surprise defeat at the hands of strugglers Sibsey. All rinks and the aggregate were very close.

Round-up for week ending July 4

2 wood section division 1

BBCII v Burton House A: No result.

Woodhall Town 6 (84), West End A 6 (89): In spite of home skips John Gee (25-15), Denis Hoyes (25-16) and Dennis Crabtree (24-23), Woodhall still lost out on the aggregate to a 35-10 from West End’s Joe Rechowicz, Ralph Sawer and John Sellars.

West End B 8 (84), Sleaford Road 4 (78): Possibly there will be disappointment down Peck Avenue. Making the aggregate difference for West End were Sally Hippisley, Keith Swain and John Fensom at 27-16

Kirton A 8 (98), BBC I 4 (78): BBC slip down the table again as a result of this defeat. Gordon Harris, Peter Copeland and Geoff Parker won 37-16.

Wigtoft 8 (86), Bicker 4 (78): This was a nice little win for the Wigtoft team. Both teams remain in mid-table.

2 wood section division 2

Jubilee Park 9 (127), West Skirbeck 3 (70): This was a comprehensive win for the park with both N. Stoddard and Craig Aitken’s rinks scoring 41 shots.

Sleaford Road 4 (90), Kirton 8 (93): A narrow aggregate win saw Kirton take the extra points.

Norprint 2 (73), Woodhall Town 10 (89): Steady wins for rinks skipped by Ernie Brown and Duncan MacNaughton, together with a more modest win for Brian Trinder’s rink secured the bulk of the points for the visitors.

Sibsey 4 (88), Swineshead 8 (90): Only two shots in the aggregate meant disappointment for the home side, who, according to the sheet thought that they were playing Heckington! Skips Eileen May and Lee Bristow skipped winning rinks for Swineshead, and Barry Thompson’s rink, together with Alan Woods’ won for Sibsey

Burton House B 10 (101), Freiston 2 (77): Burton House B march on, this time at the expense of Freiston, who remain third.

3 wood section division 1

Stickney 8 (81), Jubilee Park 4 (65): Stickney made stopping in the top table a slight possibility again fellow strugglers. In spite of Harold Welburn’s rink winning 27-11 for the visitors, a 31-9 from Gill Newman, Cliff Jupp and George Burr, together with David Todd, Penny Giles and Steve Todd’s 25-12 ensure the extra points for the home team.

Woodhall Town 10 (76), Wyberton 2 (52): Meanwhile in the woods, Wyberton lost any significant chance of finishing top again this week after losing to Woodhall Town. Three rinks were close, but Norman Wrigglesworth, Ray Dales and Denis Hoyes won 29-8 against our esteemed Secretary to pull off a shock result.

3 wood section division 2

Freiston 4 (69), Castle 8 (70): The aggregate went to the visitors by one shot which was always likely to happen as no rink won by more than 4 shots. For Castle, skips Neil Rogers won by 3 and Brian Sweet by 3, for Freiston it was Barry Nightingale by 1 and Ian Smith by 4.

West End A 2 (47), Norprint 10 (68): Norprint won on three rinks, including a 22-8 from Pam and Richard Vinter with Margaret Broughton

2 wood section division 1

BBC I 12 (108), West End B 0 (68): This was a whitewash for outside contenders BBC I. Winning well were skips Alan West, Ron Flower and Richard Lewis, whilst captain Arnold Bennett won narrowly.

West End A 2 (70), Sleaford Road 10 (85): John Spencer, John Dawson and Ted Bourne won 26-10 for the visitors, the only home points were earned by Jenny Holmes, Joe Rechowicz and Ray Blackamore. Sleaford Road are now within three points of the leaders.

Wigtoft 10 (112), Kirton A 2 (78): This was a good win for Wigtoft against third placed Kirton. It was pointed out on the score sheet that one home skip was still awaiting a win. Remember that it’s a team game!

Woodhall 8 (98), BBC II 4 (86): Two rink wins each for the bottom two clubs, with Woodhall getting the aggregate from skips Brian Connelly (28-16) and Ray Dales (33-21).

2 wood section division 2

Woodhall Town 4 (87), Norprint 8 (91): A narrow four-shot win for  Norprint brought the extra points for the visitors in this rearranged week one game. Peter West, David Allenby and Ray Moore won 29-14, and the rink skipped by Tony Hall won by 5.

Burton House B 8 (93), Jubilee Park 4 (77): The battle between the top two teams showed the lion’s share of the points going to the home side, thanks to a 30-8 win from Derek Whelbourn’s rink.

Kirton B 2 (71), Woodhall Town 10 (92): Woodhall move into mid-table as a result of this win. There were good rinks wins of 27-14, 34-9 and 23-17 for the visitors.

3 wood section division 1

Goodfellowship 2 (54), Burton House A 10 (85): Convincing wins on three rinks brought the bulk of the points away from Fosdyke. Only local aces Shirley Moore, Don Ebbage and Joe Moore scraped shots for the home team.

Wyberton 12 (89), Jubilee Park 0 (43): Victory took Wyberton to the top of the table. Home skips Mick Tomlin, Martin Tomlin, Bernard Skelton and Simon Reeson all won well against the Park.

Woodhall Town 8 (64), Wigtoft 4 (61): A good win for Woodhall, though by a narrow margin. Brian Connelly, Paul Fox and Ray Dales won 24-5 at home, with a creditable 23-10 for Seamus Rooney, John Craft and Graham Wilkinson for the visitors, for whom Ali Saunby’s rink also won 23-14

Sibsey A 0 (53), Kirton A 12 (85): Kirton are a good third after this result with all rinks winning well.

BBC I 10 (76), Stickney 2 (62): Another poor result for bottom club Stickney. Sue Upsall, Muriel Watson and Ron Flower managed 37-11 for the home side whilst David and Steve Todd with Penny Giles replied with 24-9 for the visitors only points.

3 wood section division 2

Wrangle 8 (69), Swineshead 4 (57): Mid-table Wrangle got the bonus points thanks to 23-9 from David Clark, Ray Robinson and Kath Chappell.

Burton House B 8 (61), Freiston 4 (60): The least successful of the Burton House sides got the bulk of the points, but only by one shot. Tom Richardson, John Whitehouse and Mark Bennett won 20-11.

Castle 6 (69), Wyberton 6 (69): Another two rinks and aggregate draw slows down Castle’s progress to promotion. Brian Sweet’s rink won 22-8, Adrian Watson’s 29-11, but Wyberton skips Mick Tomlin and Mick Dodes balanced it.

Mareham 2 (67), West End B 10 (79): At one stage in the season, Mareham looked to be promotion candidates, but now relegation becomes a possibility. West End A made the most of their visit, skips Gerry Myers winning 24-11, Tommy Horn 28-10 with a more modest 18-15 from Ray Blackamore.

West End B 9 (65), Norprint 3 (53): West End are level on points on top with Castle. This was a close game, with Linda Garner, Keith Swain and John Fensom being the biggest winners with 19-9

3 wood section division 3

Donington 2 (69), Friskney 10 (75): A late running week eight result shows another fruitful trip across town (is this the longest trip in the league?) for Friskney. We still await Woodhall Town v Sibsey B from week eight.

BBC II 9 (76), West Skirbeck 3 (66): This week nine match shows some very close results with only Eric Lewis’ home rink (21-11) scoring at all well.

Sibsey B 2 (65), Donington 10 (90): Both teams are mid-table but Donington raised the aggregate points thanks to skips G. Simpson (27-15) and M. Laidler (26-13).

Kirton B 9 (81), Woodhall Town 3 (52): A good home win for Kirton thanks to a 31-4 for Muriel Goringe, Sheila Cressey and Sandra Copeland

Friskney 10 (80), Sleaford Road 2 (54): Another 10 points for Friskney takes them back to the top with a 26-5 from Doris Burbidge, Margaret Grant and Lou Rice.

Boston Park 12 (94), Sibsey C 0 (47): A first game at home for Boston Park brought them all the points. Good wins were recorded for rinks skipped by Peter Simpson, Arnold Pape, Dave Young and Charles Newham.

Round-up for week ending June 20

2 wood section division 1

BBC I 10 (89), West End A 2 (82): A tardy week 7 result shows Ron & Jenny Holmes, with Mick Hippisley getting the only points for the visitors.

BBC I 8 (118), Woodhall Town 4 (83): This week BBC collected another 8, winning well were M Cambell, Ron Flower and Rod West at 35-14.

Bicker 2 (78), Sleaford Road 10 (106): Bicker have gone off the boil, to be replaced as the main challengers by Sleaford Rd.

Burton House A 10 (100), Wigtoft 2 (76): Two rinks finished very close, but 29-19 from Mick Asplen’s rink and Peter Horn’s 28-19 were enough for the Champions, and in my opinion, the champions elect.

West End A 10 (114), BBC II 2 (80): Ann Kemp, Mavis Ablard and Tom Horn scored 40 shots.

Kirton 8 (93), West End B 4 (76): Kirton plod along comfortably just behind the leaders. Dale Elsam, Tony Nixon with Albert Crowder won comfortably by 32-8

2 wood section division 2

Woodhall Town 0 (66), Freiston 12 (97): No report details.

Jubilee Park 12 (138), Norprint 0 (45): A very one sided game, with a 54-5 from the park rink of H Herrick, T Bourne and N Stoddard

Swineshead 4 (73), Burton House B 8 (92): Strong wins for the visitors skips Margaret Chester 26-11 and Mark Bennett 30-21 were not matched by the home rinks.

Sleaford Road 6 (87), West Skirbeck 6 (87): Two rinks each and the shared aggregate is quite rare. Winning well for Sleaford Road were Jan and David Bailey 27-19 and Thelma and Dan Taylor 31-21, replying for the visitors Terry Davison, Gordon Gallichan and Mick Roberts won 25-12 whilst John Stevens rink won narrowly, but just enough.

Sibsey 12 (139), Kirton B 0 (64): This was a heavy win for the home team, with only one rink close. Captain Harold Best’s rink scored 42, while two others passed 30.

3 wood section division 1

Wigtoft 2 (50), Wyberton 10 (91): Time was when Wigtoft were virtually unbeaten at home, but those days are now in the past. For the visitors Andrews Limb & Dawson with Martin Tomlin won 32-11, whilst Alex Seaton, with Tina & Simon Reeson nearly matched it with 29-10.

Burton House A 8 (67), Sibsey 4 (59): Sibsey did well at Wainfleet Rd., with it being relatively close on all rinks. The only real difference was the away rinks winning by 5, whilst home rinks skipped by Ken Porter and Pete Asplen won by 11 and 9.

Kirton A 10 (81), Stickney 2 (56): Only Carol Clarke, Sid Coultan and Jeff Nicholson won for the visitors, who will have to work hard to avoid relegation. The home rink of Peter Copeland, Chris Gill and Geoff Parker won by 26-9.

Goodfellowship 12 (92), Jubilee Park 0 (43): Three very convincing wins on three of the home rinks rapped up an unexpectedly one-sided game.

BBC I 8 (81), Woodhall Town 4 (66): Paul Fox, Bob Tolley and Brian Connelly did well to win 23-13 away, but Woodhall’s chances of the aggregate were ruined by a 32-9 home win for Alan Buxton, Graham Tooley and Jonathan West.

3 wood section division 2

Swineshead 2 (68), Burton House B 10 (70): In one of the closer results this week, Swineshead won only one rink, but Gill and Geoff Dawson with Brian Clark 24-14 did nearly enough to match the narrow wins of the away team.

Freiston 10 (78), Wyberton 2 (56): Wins for Wendy Sharpe, Freda Hardy with John Stray 22-12, and Beryl Brewster, John Millership with Derek Hunn 23-13 guaranteed the aggregate.

West End A 8 (68), Castle 4 (57): Castle came unstuck on the slopes of the West End rink, losing by 11 shots. Norma Barnes, Ralph Sawer and Ray Blackamore helped win the aggregate with a 27-7 score.

Wrangle 2 (58), West End B 10 (63): West End B may end up contending for promotion, although this win was modest. Only 5 shots separated the teams, with no rink winning by more than 4.

Mareham v Norprint: Cancelled due to a flooded green.

3 wood section division 3

West Skirbeck 10 (73), Boston Park 2 (50): I am not allowed to tip Skirbeck for promotion, but a 22-7 for Janet Whyers, Ted Brooks and Peter Hoyles make it more likely.

Kirton B 2 (61), BBC II 10 (76): No report details.

Sibsey C 2 (57), Sleaford Road 10 (78): A 32-3 result from Fran King, Thelma Taylor and Ted Bourne ensures the aggregate points.

There were no results submitted for Donington v Friskney or Woodhall Town v Sibsey B.

Round-up for week ending June 13

2 wood section division 1

West End B 4 (82), Burton House 8 (83): This was a close shave for the league leaders. A home and away rink each won by 4 shots, but the 29-12 from Sally Hippisley, Keith Swain and John Fensom narrowly lost out to the visitors 29-11 from Richard Whittaker, Ted Tasker and Ken Porter.

Kirton 12 (93), Bicker 0 (67): Nobody is currently challenging Burton House for the title. Bicker fell well adrift with this result. There were no big rink wins and home rink skips Stan Lawrence, Brian Bannister, Geoff Parker and Albert Crowder just did enough.

Wigtoft 10 (95), Woodhall Town 2 (68): Mid-table Wigtoft won well on rinks skipped by Pip Clark and Graham Wilkinson. David Bradshaw with Brenda and Dennis Crabtree got the points for Woodhall, with John Gees rink narrowly missing out.

Sleaford Rd 12 (126), BBC II 0 (53): A 35-8 from Sue Simpson-Shaw, Hazel Marshall and Les Feary was the biggest of the home sides wins, which takes them to second in the table.

No result from BBC I vs West End ‘A’

2 wood section division 2

Burton House B 10 (111), Sleaford Road 2 (68): Big wins for home rinks skipped by Mark Bennett and ken cook were enough to see the home team home and dry. Ray Hobart, Peter King and John Riches got the consolation points with a narrow win.

Woodhall Town 10 (116), Sibsey A 2 (71): Woodhall strengthened their position to mid table with this win. There were big wins from Woodhall’s Caz Bradshaw, Ian Aitken and Dave Walsh (37-7), and John Hall, Audrey Brown and Ernie Brown [38-12]  and a big reply for the vistors from Jill Russell, Peter Trupenny and Harold Best.

Norprint 2 (68), Swineshead 10 (84): A good result for the visitors, with Eileen May, Edna Rimmer and Reg Turner winning 34-9

Jubilee Park 12 (103), Freiston 0 (82): The second placed side took all the points from the third placed one in this fixture. There were no remarkable performances, just a good steady team effort.

West Skirbeck 12 (124), Kirton B 0 (66): Skirbeck will shoot up the table as after this result. 46-7 from Derek Wright, Rob Day and Rob Rutherford was outstanding.

3 wood section division 1

BBC I 10 (70), Wyberton 2 (58): Last weeks leaders came unstuck away to BBC I. Only Andy Dawson, Maggie Kisby and Andrew Limb won for the visitors, with M Stares, Christine Medcalf and Richard Lewis winning 24-11 for the home team.

Stickney 2 (58), Burton House 10 (87): A Burton House team notable for its absentees did enough to go back top. Winning well were Pete Vines, Dave Hazelgrove and Graham Porter with a 30-9 win.

Jubilee Park 2 (63), Wigtoft 10 (80): This was a good win for the visitors against a strong home side. Seamus Rooney, John Craft and Graham Wilkinson won 26-10 for the visitors.

Kirton A 8 (80), Goodfellowship 4 (74): Two teams that will probably finish mid-table each had a share of the points. Making the aggregate count were Peter Copeland, Glynne Goringe and Geoff Parker who won 24-11 for the home team.

Sibsey A 10 (77), Woodhall Town 2 (58): Both these teams may be contesting relegation at the end of the season. Sibsey helped their cause with this win. Gaining the aggregate 4 were Phil Stubley, Peter Parker and Dave Bridge with a 21-10.

3 wood section division 2

Castle 8 (73), Norprint 4 (64): Castle lead the way by 9 points after this good win against challengers Norprint. There was a 26-12 from Chris Money, Tom Scholey and Adrian Watson.

Freiston 10 (68), Wrangle 2 (57): Mid-table at the moment for these two teams, with the biggest win being a 26-8 for the losing side from Stan Holins, Ray Robinson and Kath Chappell.

West End B 12 (110), Mareham 0 (40): West End B go second as a result of this alarming fall from form by Mareham. 43-4 was the score for Pete Bedford, Janet Vinter and Denis Robins.

Burton House B 0 (50), West End A 12 (96): The only Burton House side not to top its’ division continues to struggle at the ‘going down’ end of the table. Margaret Chester’s rink only lost by one at home, but Norma Barnes, Mick Hippisley and Ray Blackamore scored 35 for the visitors.

Wyberton 8 (62), Swineshead 4 (41): The Wyberton second string improved their position slightly as a result of a this win over rock bottom Swineshead. There were unusually two drawing rinks and an away win of 1, before rain stopped play with Iris Reeson, Tina Reeson and Dave Heron in front 26-4.

3 wood section division 3

This is the closest of the five divisions, with one point covering the top four clubs, and five points covering the top six.

Friskney 2 (39), West Skirbeck 10 (58): Friskney drop from first to fourth and Skirbeck go top after this game, which looks like it finished early. 19-6 from Tracey Hill, Terry Davidson and star skip Rob Rutherford and 16-6 from Ken Sharman, Gary Hill and John Stevens won the aggregate.

Woodhall Town 10 (77), BBC II 2 (62): Woodhall also climb the table to second spot with this result. The aggregate was close thanks to a 28-11 win for the visiting skip Eric Lewis, but was ensured for the home team by 26-9 from John Hall, Lyn Patterson and Keith Parkin.

Sleaford Rd 4 (53), Sibsey B 8 (59): A narrow win for Sibsey B takes them third thanks to a 20-8 from Wendy King, John Hodgson and Ivan Stimson.

Sibsey C 4 (63), Donington 8 (84): A good away win for Donington who climb out of the bottom two.

Kirton 10 (67), Boston Park 2 (60): Only six shots separated the sides, with no big wins.

Round-up for week ending June 6

2 wood section division 1

Sleaford Rd 9 (87), BBC I 3 (78): The missing week 5 result shows a convincing home win, with a 31-19 from Sue-Simpson Shaw, Hazel Marshall and Les Feary.

Kirton A 10 (94), Sleaford Rd 2 (90): The Peck Avenue side did less well on their travels, but the aggregate was tight. They need some good results against the leading teams to stay in touch.

BBC II 2 (69), BBC I 10 (10): Notable was a 37-14 win for the first team rink of Alan Buxton, H K Grant and captain Arnold Bennett.

West End A 4 (80), Wigtoft 8 (84): Only four shots in it at the end, with John Murphy, Seamus Rooney and Graham Wilkinson winning 27-14 for Wigtoft and Joe Rechowicz, Ray Blackamore and John Sellars replying for the home team with 23-13. The other two rinks were close.

Bicker 10 (117), West End B 2 (2): Bicker, with a game in hand, are still only nine points behind the leaders. Andrew Slaughter, Jim Thompson and Roger Wing won 39-9, and David Slaughter, Roy Bourne with Frank Hinton won 38-12.

Woodhall Town 4 (76), Burton House A 8 (102): Big wins from visiting skips Richard White 37-12, and Maurice Kemp 32-15 just outweighed creditable performances for the home team by rinks skipped by John Gee and Dennis Crabtree. Burton House remain top and favourites to retain their crown.

2 wood section division 2

Burton House B 12 (132), Kirton B 0 (65): The Wainfleet Road second string also top their division, and demonstrated their strength against Kirton. Three rinks scored above 30 shots, with Tina Bennett, Joseph Carson and Ken Cook winning 42-20. A Kirton rink skipped by Pat Weaver put up stiff resistance, losing eventually by four shots.

Freiston 4 (80), Norprint 8 (102): This was a good result for the visitors, who were floundering a little. A rink win of 34-6 for the visiting rink of Mark Freemantle, Dave Allenby and Ray Loughran earned the extra four points.

Sibsey A 10 (109), West Skirbeck 2 (66): Sibsey rise off the base of the table after this result, with a 43-5 from Jill Russell, John Gash and captain Harold Best being notable.

Jubilee Park 4 (79), Woodhall Town 8 (80): Early in the season, Town dropped a lot of points by the odd shot here and there. Now the boot is on the other foot, with the bulk on the points going to them as a result of 1 shot. Skips Dave Walsh and Brian Trinder won for Town, with N. Stoddard and Craig Aitken winning for Park.

Sleaford Rd 10 (103), Swineshead 2 (78): Both sides are comfortably mid-table. Fran King with Thelma and Dan Taylor won 32-16 and Ray Hobart, with Cynthia and Tony Bush won 33-17 to gain the aggregate.

3 wood section division 1

Kirton A 11 (95), Jubilee Park 1 (47): Three points now cover 5 teams in the middle of this table, including these two. 28-8 results from rinks skipped by Geoff Parker and Brian Bannister did most of the damage.

Sibsey 0 (66), Wyberton 12 (85): Wyberton top the division after a strong performance. Three of the four rinks were very close, so Sibsey may feel disappointed to come away with nothing.

Goodfellowship 10 (77), Stickney 2 (53): On a very pleasant evening at Fosdyke, and witnessed by myself, the visitors failed to come to terms with the rinks. Carol Clarke, Sid Coultan and Jeff Nicholson were in with a shout until the end, but fell to Don Ebbage with Joe and Shirley Moore. Colin Baxter seemed to save or convert a number of four and five counts against him for Goodfellowship, leaving David Todd, Penny Giles and Steve Todd to gain the only points for the visitors.

Woodhall Town 4 (70), Burton House A 8 (71): Back to old ways, Town lose 4 points for 2 shots. No further comment is possible as the visitors did not fill in their names on the sheet.

Wigtoft 2 (63), BBC I 10 (70): The cupboard was nearly bare for Wigtoft in a close game. A 23-15 from visitors Sue Upsall, Muriel Watson and Ron Flower was enough for the aggregate.

3 wood section division 2

Wrangle 10 (64), Wyberton 2 (54): Wrangle slowly climb the table, each rink win was narrow, the biggest being a 17-12 for Joe White’s team.

Burton House B 8 (73), Norprint 4 (61): Norprint drop to second as a result of this defeat.

Mareham 2 (60), Castle 10 (80): Castle go top as a result of this win, with rink wins for skips Brian Sweet, Stan Avison and Neil Rodgers.

Freiston 4 (68), West End B 8 (68): A drawn aggregate is fairly rare, especially when only one rink wins for one team. On this occasion a 30-9 from Kirsty Sansam, Mathew Smith and Barry Harrington was enough to even out the efforts of visiting skips John Fensom (21-11), Denis Robins (18-15) and Peter Tracey (20-12).

West End A 12 (107), Swineshead 0 (34): The cupboard was bare for Swineshead again this week, and they are now adrift at the foot of the table. Jenny Holmes, Harold Philpott and Ralph Sawer contributed a 31-6 rink win.

3 wood section division 3

Sibsey B 4 (65), Sibsey C 8 (64): A close and very nearly cosy result for the local village derby. A 25-7 win for the C team rink of Barry Hudson, John Garden and Kevin Bourne just got the aggregate.

Sleaford Rd 4 (57), Woodhall Town 8 (69): Again the biggest rink win for Woodhall included Audrey and Ernie Brown with Beryl Stanley (22-8) which helped gain the extra points.

BBC II 4 (67), Boston Park 8 (79): A 34-11 from Charles Newham’s rink made the difference for bottom club Park, who, up to now, have had to play all their fixtures away from home. I hope that the green is recovering sufficiently for them to be able to play at home in the second half of the season.

West Skirbeck 8 (67), Donington 4 (62): A narrow win for Skirbeck included a 28-8 win for visitors Mrs P Wilson, Mrs E Lawton and Mrs B Grimshaw, slightly bettered by 23-2 from Ken Sharman, Terry Davidson and Barry Bagley and 24-7 from Janet Whyers, Ted Brooks and Rob Rutherford.

Friskney 8 (66), Kirton B 4 (61): There were narrow rink wins for both sides as Friskney extend their lead in the table.

Round-up for week ending May 30

2 wood section division 1

Bicker 8 (105), Woodhall Town 4 (80): Bicker surprisingLY dropped points at home to bottom club Woodhall. Rinks skipped by visitors John Gee and Dennis Crabtree both won by three shots, to deprive the home team of much needed points.

West End B 10 (97), West End A 2 (77): The B squad at the Princes’ Road ground triumphed on this occasion. There was a 36-12 from Sally Hippisley, Keith Swain and John Fensom, plus two narrower wins, with Joe Rechowicz, Ralph Sawyer and John Sellars getting the points for the A team.

BBC II 2 (67), Wigtoft 10 (81): Mid-table Wigtoft are always hard to beat, with rinks skipped by Ali Saunby, Pip Clark and Murray Chambers winning comfortably.

Kirton A 2 (62), Burton House A 10 (120): Jean Cammack, Di Wilson and Richard White contributed a 40-12 rink win to this comprehensive away win for the frontrunners.

No result has been received yet for Sleaford Road v BBC I, the only straggler this week.

2 wood section division 2

Burton House B 10 (106), Sibsey A 2 (66): A good win from the current leaders, with a 32-15 win from from Ken Cook’s rink and a 35-15 from Dave Hazelgroves.

Freiston 12 (107), Swineshead 0 (76): Another good result from Freiston in this strong division. There were no massive wins, but rinks skipped by Mark Brown, Keith Posey, Jim Walker and Derek Hunn all won comfortably.

Woodhall Town 2 (61), West Skirbeck 10 (126): Derek Wright, Rob Day and Ivan Dilley managed 56 shots in this match. Other points for the visitors came from rinks skipped by John Stevens and Rob Rutherford.

Norprint 8 (101), Kirton B 4 (81): Mark Freemantle, David Allenby and Peter West contributed a 37-13 to this 20 shot aggregate win.

Swineshead 2 (78), Jubilee Park 10 (102): The top part of this result sheet was completely blank. Luckily I recognised some of the names and managed to deduce which match it was. Jubilee Park continue to do well, and together with Burton House and Freiston should be thereabouts when promotion is decided.

3 wood section division 1

Jubilee Park 8 (64), BBC I 4 (62): Third placed Park should consolidate their position with this result, with a 27-12 from A Herrick, W West and H Welbourn ensuring the narrow aggregate win.

Stickney 8 (78), Wyberton 4 (67): Top team Wyberton came unstuck against an improving Stickney side. Winning rinks were Gill & Dave Newman with Alan Peacock (21-12) and David Todd, Penny Giles and Steve Todd (23-15).

Goodfellowship 4 (69),Woodhall Town 8 (81): This was a good result for Woodhall Town, with the aggregate ensured by a 26-10 from George Cutting, Ray Dales and Ken Robinson.

Burton House A 8 (75), Kirton A 4 (59): A fairly narrow 16 shot lead tp gain the aggregate was ensured by a 20-6 win from Pete Asplen, Di Wilson and Mick Asplen.

Wigtoft 8 (70), Sibsey A 4 (63): Only seven shots separated the two sides, with Seamus Rooney, John Craft and Graham Wilkinson winning for the home side and a strong reply from Eileen Brown, Alan Woods and Derek Grainger (23-14) nearly closing the gap.

3 wood section division 2

Swineshead 0 (45), Freiston 12 (93): Another maximum for Freiston over Swineshead, with a 22-5 win for John Stray’s rink and a 29-9 from Mark Brown’s.

Mareham 12 (87), Burton House B 0 (52): Mareham were back to winning ways at home to Burton House’s second string, who seem not to be playing up to their abilities.

Wrangle 4 (57), West End A 8 (71): The aggregate points were ensured by a 24-9 from Ann Kemp, Paul Hutchinson and Derek Butwright.

Wyberton 0 (40), Norprint 12 (88): Top club Norprint ran away with is game, which, from the sheet indicates that Wyberton were two players short.

West End B 0 (55), Castle 12 (77): The previous top team fell heavily at home and allowed both the visitors and Norprint to overtake them. There were no huge rink scaores, just nice steady rink wins skipped by Stan Avison, Adrian Watson, Brian Sweet and Neil Rodgers.

3 wood section division 3

Donington 4 (56), Woodhall Town 8 (78): A week 4 sheet shows Woodhall triumphing in this battle of sides struggling at the foot of the table. Wins of 25-10 from Duncan MacNaughtan’s rink and a 26-7 from Brian Trinder’s were enough to secure the aggregate.

Woodhall Town 10 (76), Boston Park 2 (65): A match that was fairly even in the scores, took the bulk of the points to Woodhall. The biggest win was for Beryl Stanley with Audrey and Ernie Brown.

West Skirbeck 8 (72), Sibsey B 4 (62): This was a narrow result between two mid-table teams. The aggregate was ensured by a 28-6 from John Stevens, aided and abetted by Derek Wright and Gary Hill.

Donington 6 (60), Sleaford Road 6 (67): This draw was achieved in spite of the home team winning three of the four rinks. Unfortunately, they only won them narrowly allowing the visitor’s Debbie Harrison, Cynthia Bush and Tony Bush to gain all their team’s share with a 28-15 win.

BBC II 12 (100), Friskney 0 (49): The most unusual result of the week shows runaway leaders Friskney coming down to earth with a bang in Robin Hood’s Walk. The biggest home win was from T Johns with Henry Dowse and Phil Markham (31-6). However, Friskney’s lead was so big that they are still top.

Sibsey C 2 (45), Kirton B 10 (84): This was a comprehensive win for the visitors who needed the points to maintain a place in the chasing pack.

Round-up for week ending May 23

Burton House top both the 2 wood divisions, but the absence of a result makes the first division position fragile. In the 3 wood section their A team, last year’s winners are second, but the B side languishes in eighth spot in division 2.

2 wood section division 1

BBC II 8 (94), WEST END A 4 (89): This was a valuable, if modest win for the BBC second team. Big wins for the visitors skips of Denis Robins 31-15 and John Fensom 26-19 were more than matched by the home team’s J. Meads (35-13) and Ron Flower (25-19) to claim the 4 aggregate points. BBC II are 9th.and West End A 8th.

SLEAFORD RD 3 (77), BURTON HOUSE A 9 (81): A narrow win sees Burton House’s form continue. A 20-13 from Richard Whittaker, Ted Tasker and Ken Porter slightly outweighing Sue Simpson-Shaw, Craig Spencer and Les Feary’s 22-16, with a draw between Keith French’s rink and Maurice Kemps. Jean cammack, Di Wilson and Richard White narrowly won for the visitors. Burton House are top (43/4) with Sleaford Rd.  second (35/4).

WOODHALL 2 (78), KIRTON A 10 (94): The win for the visitors was notable for a 34-12 from Pete Copeland, Dave Gill and Geoff Parker. John Gee’s rink won the consolation for the home team. Woodhall are 10th and Kirton A are fourth.

WIGTOFT 2 (66), BBC I 10 (98): A good result for BBC on a homer’s green. Best performance was from Mike Campion, Graham Tooley and ex-Wigtoft man Rod West with 32-9. Wigtoft are seventh and BBC I are fifth. No result sheet has been received for WEST END B v BICKER. Bicker will be top if they got ten or more points.

2 wood section division 2

JUBILEE PARK 10 (100), KIRTON B 2 (69): A delayed week 3 result shows another good performance, with D. West, J. Sharpe and Craig Aitken winning 33-6.

JUBILEE PARK 10 (82), SLEAFORD ROAD 2 (62): Yet another strong performance by the Woodhall based side, with only John Riches rink cashing any points for the visitors.

SWINESHEAD 4 (82), WOODHALL TOWN 8 (83): This time Woodhall Town were on the positive end of a narrow win. Brian Trinder’s rink won by 4, Ernie Brown’s by 3, but this was enough to beat the 2 shot win for the home rink skipped by Barry Welberry and the 4 shot win for skip Terry Rimmer. Swineshead are second (34/4).

BURTON HOUSE 12 (115), WEST SKIRBECK 0 (62): Convincing wins on all rinks earned the Burton House second string all the points. Burton House B are top (37/4).

KIRTON B 2 (66), FREISTON 10 (100): A strong performance from Freiston included a 34-11 win from Maureen and Derek Hunn and John Millership.

NORPRINT 9 (92), SIBSEY A 3 (65): A 34-8 from Anne Allenby, Janet Loughran and Roland Chapman ensured the aggregate points for the home team.

3 wood section division 1

JUBILEE PARK 4 (58), BURTON HOUSE A 8 (65): A close run thing with only 7 shots separating the sides. A 27-9 shot win for one of the visiting rinks made the difference. Burton House A are second (28/4), with Jubilee Park third (26/4).

SIBSEY A 8 (63), BBC I 4 (62): Captain Peter Parker reports that, going into the last end, his rink, including Dave Bridges and Phil Stubley needed 5 for the aggregate, and indeed got them, being rewarded by the 4 points.

WOODHALL TOWN 8 (71), KIRTON 4 (67): Another close result favouring Woodhall, maybe the tide has turned. The only win of above three shots went to Brenda Crabtree, Dennis Crabtree and David Bradshaw with 24-17.

STICKNEY 4 (63), WIGTOFT 8 (68): A 27-12 home result from David Todd, Penny Giles and Steve Todd, with a narrow win from Alan Peacock’s rink, was not enough to overcome a 21-8 and 21-13 from visiting skips Pip Clark and Graham Wilkinson.

WYBERTON 10 (72), GOODFELLOWSHIP 2 (63): This was closer than it appears, with no big rink wins. Shirley and David Allen with Eddie Harness got the Fosdyke teams only points. Wyberton lead the division (33/4).

3 wood section division 2

WEST END A 2 (55), FREISTON 10 (99): Notable was a 51-1 win for Kirsty Sansam, Matthew Smith and Mark Brown.

SWINESHEAD 6 (68), WEST END B 6 (71): A rare draw, with Linda Garner, Pete Bedford and Norman Ablard winning away by 25-8 to gain all six of West End’s points. Gill and Geoff Dawson with Brian Clarke replied with 25-8, but the other two home rinks only won by one shot each. West End B have a clear lead with 38/4.

BURTON HOUSE B 8 (93), CASTLE 4 (66): The aggregate was won for the home team thanks to a 31-9 from Ron Thacker, Tom Richardson and Graham Porter. Castle are third on shot difference.

NORPRINT 4 (63), WRANGLE 8 (67): A 30-10 from Norprint’s Pam and Richard Vinter with David Toynton was not enough to win the aggregate as Wrangle replied with a 21-9 from David and Hazel Clark with Kath Chappell and a 24-6 from Sid Pickwill, Bill Young and Keith Bailey. Norprint are still second (33/4).

WYBERTON 12 (93), MAREHAM 0 (46): It was down to earth with a bump as Wyberton finally got going. The Reeson rink of Bunny, Iris and Tina won 33-8.

3 wood section division 3

A week 3 result shows BBC II 2 (54), SIBSEY B 10 (87).

WEST SKIRBECK 8 (64), SLEAFORD ROAD 4 (55): A 21-9 from Philip Wicksted, Richard Mills and Rob Rutherford and a 25-9 for Derek Wright, Mick Bond and John Stevens were enough to take the aggregate points in spite of good wins for visiting skips Neil Harrison and Ted Bourne.

SIBSEY B 12 (74), KIRTON B 0 (43): A very strong performance from Sibsey’s second string. There were no huge wins, but there was no danger of any dropped points. Sibsey B are second (34/4).

BBC II 6 (71), SIBSEY C 6 (53): Making the difference was a rink win from Henry Dowse, T Johns and Ken Whyers of 31-5 which was enough for aggregate points as well.

FRISKNEY 12 (89), BOSTON PARK 0 (60): A comprehensive win for the home team, but with no big rink wins. Friskney lead the division (40/4).

No result in for Donington v Woodhall Town, which I have been consulted about.

Round-up for week ending May 16

A raw easterly wind made bowling uncomfortable on Monday and Tuesday I am told. This was joined by rain on Wednesday.  However, only two results are missing: 2wood d2, Jubilee Park v Kirton B and 3wood d3, BBC II v Sibsey B. A full house for Bicker brings them level on points with Burton House at the top of the 2 wood championship.

2 wood section division 1

Bbc Ii 0 (64), Bicker 12 (131): Another strong performance from the youthful Bicker team, with a 37-11 win from Dave Allerton’s rink and 36-17 from skip Wayne Phoenix. Will they have strength in depth to keep challenging all season?

Kirton A 11 (118), West End A 1 (64): Notable for the home team was a 36-8 rink win from Peter Copeland, Dave Gill and Geoff Parker. Mick Hippisley’s rink scored the only point for West End.

Burton House A 10 (100), BBC I 2 (81): I am told that Richard Whittaker, Ted Tasker and Ken Porter were 13-21 down after 16 ends and pulled back to win 25-21. Richard Lewis’ rink grabbed the consolation points for BBC.

West End B 10 (130), Woodhall Town 2 (76): These were much needed points for West End. The biggest win was a 34-13 from Janet Vinter, Louise Swain and Norman Ablard.

Sleaford Road 10 (113), Wigtoft2 (67): A massive 46-7 win from Sue Simpson Shaw, Craig Spencer and Les Feary was recorded for the home team. John Murphy, Seamus Rooney and Graham Wilkinson won for Wigtoft.

2 wood section division 2

Sibsey 2 (79), Freiston 10 (94): Wins of 29-15 from away skip Derek Hunn and 33-19 from team mate Jim Walker were too much for Sibsey, who scored thanks to a 30-12 from Jill Russell, Don law and captain Harold Best.

Swineshead 8 (100), West Skirbeck 4 (73): The Skirbeck secretary has asked me not to tip them too strongly for promotion. Possibly his absence was the reason they lost. The home team won strongly on two rinks, Phyllis Rickett, Derek Armstrong and Lee Bristow with a 32-8, with away skips Doug Staples and Ike Dilley scraping narrow wins.

Woodhall Town 2 (87), Burton House B 10 (95): again Woodhall missed out narrowly on two rinks, with Ernie Brown, Audrey Brown and John Hall getting their points. Les Nicholson, Eric Periera and Margaret Chester ensured the aggregate with a 23-14 win.

Norprint 3 (81), Sleaford Road 9 (95): Norprint continue to struggle in the 2 wood game. There were good rink wins for the visitors from skips Dan Taylor and Bill Earth

3 wood section division 1

Stickney 10 (77), Woodhall Town 2 (43): A better result for Stickney, notable for a 25-6 win for Gill Newman, David Newman with their patient skip Alan Peacock.

Kirton A 4 (64), Wyberton 8 (66): This was a close game that could have gone either way. Winning home skips were Geoff Parker and Brian Bannister with reply from Mick Tomlin and Mick Dodes.

Wigtoft 4 (69), Goodfellowship 8 (73): The four aggregate points depended on 4 shots in this close game. Home skips Pip Clark(21-14) and Graham Wilkinson (22-19) narrowly fell short of 20-12 from Alan Bristow and 20-14 from David Allen’s rink.

Jubilee Park 10 (74), Sibsey A 2 (54): Another strong performance from the Park side, who are difficult to beat.

Burton House A 10 (97), Bbc I 2 (58): After the shaky start Burton house are again showing top form. The best rink win was 32-11 from Jean Cammack, Di Wilson and Mick Asplen.

3 wood section division 2

Swineshead 2 (57), Castle 10 (81): Castle reinforce their place towards the top of the division with a good win. Gill and Geoff Dawson with Tony Rimmer got the only points for the home team.

Freiston 3 (68), Norprint 9 (80): Top team Norprint bagged most of the points at Freiston, winning the aggregate with a 24-8 from Barry Barton’s rink.

Mareham 12 (82), Wrangle 0 (52): Mareham continue to rise, Wrangle begin to struggle. The biggest win was a 24-11 from Nigel Cartwright, Shirley Kennedy and Brian West.

West End B 12 (79), Burton House B 0 (50): A good result for front-runners West End B against a Burton House team that may struggle.

Wyberton 4 (42), West End A 8 (63): According to the sheet, the home team played a man short in this shortened game. Norma Barnes, Mick Hippisley and Ray Blackamore won 31-4 for the visitors.

3 wood section division 3

Bbc Ii 2 (69), Sleaford Rd 10 (73): Most of the points went to Sleaford Rd. on the basis of just 4 shots in this WEEK 2 fixture that arrive too late for last week’s report.

Sleaford Rd  8 (71), Kirton 4 (69): Again four points depended on two shots, this time with Sleaford Road getting them. A 25-11 from Mary Middlebrook, Peter King and Neil Harrison made the difference.

Woodhall Town 4 (58), Friskney 8 (77): Few teams will beat Friskney this season. Winning the aggregate was a 24-5 from Brenda Rice, Alice Salmon and Lou Rice.

Donington 9 (71), Boston Park 3 (51): Notable was a 30-5 win from Maurice Allen, Phyllis Wilson and Eileen Lawton.

Sibsey C 10 (61), West Skirbeck 2 (44): Sibsey C will climb up the table after this result. Nice to see the Secretary playing again for Skirbeck.

Round-up for week ending May 10

2 wood section division 1

Sleaford Road 10 (129), West End B 2 (68) and Woodhall Town 0 (85), Sleaford Road 12 (87): Sleaford Road are well up with the pace. The only two points dropped this season were to West End’s Sally Hippisley, Keith Swain and John Fensom. However, it could have been very different at Woodhall where all the home rinks lost by a single shot.

Bicker 12 (98), BBC I 0 (75): Bicker have also only dropped two points to date, and this was a very convincing performance against a strong BBC side. A side to watch.

West End A 0 (61), Burton House A 12 (122).

Wigtoft 7 (92), West End B 5 (87): Deciding the extra aggregate points was a 26-11 from John Murphy, Seamus Rooney and Graham Wilkinson.

BBC II 4 (91), Kirton 8 (96): A good result for BBC II, who may struggle over the season. Considering the opposition, it was creditable to run the aggregate so close.

2 wood section division 2

Kirton B 2 (70), Swineshead 10 (92): Swineshead lead the division at this early stage having dropped only 2 points.

Sibsey 0 (64), Jubilee Park 12 (111): Sibsey are still to ‘break their duck’.

Freiston 2 (76), West Skirbeck 10 (95): with Ivor Roberts and partners winning 31-19.

Sleaford Road 8 (100), Woodhall Town 4 (86): Fran King, Neil Harrison and the perennially young Bill Earth won 32-10.

Burton House 12 (115), Norprint 0 (68): The losers are still pointless.

3 wood section division 1

Woodhall Town 8 (65), Jubilee Park 4 (64): This was a very finely balanced game, with no big wins and the aggregate only one. I feel that both clubs are destined for mid-table.

Sibsey 12 (80), Stickney 0 (48): Showed an unexpectedly one-sided result, which confirms my view that Stickney will struggle.

Wyberton 4 (62), Burton House A 8 (72): After last week’s result, Burton House have improved and rejoined the pack. Peter Vines, Bob Askey and Richard White recorded a 22-8 win, which sealed the aggregate.

Wigtoft 4 (56), Kirton A 8 (73): Notable was a 28–5 win from Peter Copeland, Ray Woods and J. Evans

Goodfellowship 4 (52), BBC I 8 (73): The West family, Alan, Rod and Jonathan scored a 26-6 win for BBC against the Allen family Shirley, Richard and David at Fosdyke.

3 wood section division 2

Mareham 4 (64), Freiston 8 (72): There was little to separate these two mid-table teams, with the aggregate being won for the visitors by Yvonne Smith, Ian Smith and Barry ‘Backhand’ Harrington.

West End A 2 (68), West End B 10 (78): In one of many local derbies this year, the ‘B’ team showed its usual edge. There were no close scores, but the aggregate was lost in spite of a 39-7 win for the ‘A’ teams Norma Barnes, Mick Hippisley and Ray Blackamore.

Burton House B 6 (89), Wyberton 6 (57): A 48-2 win for Pete Vines, Graham Porter and Captain Peter Horn got all the Burton House points.

Wrangle 1 (53), Castle 11 (82).

Norprint 10 (67), Swineshead 2 (48): Norprint lead after this result, helped by a 26-6 from Bill Mellor, Chris Avison and David Toynton

3 wood section division 3

West Skirbeck 11 (84), Woodhall Town 1 (48): courtesy of a 34-10 from skip Barry Bagley

Sibsey B 10 (78), Boston Park 2 (41): Noteworthy was a 28-5 from Peter Trupenny, Ann Wys and Barry Thompson.

Friskney 10 (72), Sibsey C 2 (56): Friskney are likely promotion candidates as shown by this comprehensive win.

Kirton B 12 (86), Donington 0 (51): Likewise, Kirton ‘B’ will be thereabouts at the end of the season.

Round-up for week ending May 3

The start of outdoor bowling usually brings deterioration in the weather, this year being no exception. However, there were at least a succession of dry nights to start the season. The league this year consists of fewer but larger divisions, giving clubs more games and a slightly longer season. Unfortunately one club had its green vandalised shortly before the start of the season, and is currently playing all the fixtures away. The co-operation of opposing sides in making these rearrangements is appreciated by both the club involved and the league.

Player registrations were due by May 1. Those from Goodfellowship, Kirton, Swineshead and Wyberton are outstanding.

2 wood section division 1

West End A v Woodhall Town:  West End won the aggregate points by 100 -90 through good wins from skips Ray Blackamore and Geoff Barnes. Skips Dennis Crabtree and John Gee (30-19) replied for Woodhall Town.

BBC I v Kirton A: This was a good result for BBC, who, given the right players being available, are title contenders. They saw off Kirton ‘A’ 10-2, with only Geoff Parker’s rink winning for the visitors.

Burton Hoouse A v BBC II: Champions Burton House got off to a good start by winning 12-0, all rinks winning well.

Bicker v Wigtoft: A 10-2 win for last year’s runners up Bicker over a strong Wigtoft side sets them off to a good start, with Wayne Phoenix’s rink winning 30-14.

Sleaford Road v West End B: No result submitted.

2 wood section division 2

Kirton B v Sleaford Road: The visitors bagged a full house 12 with an aggregate of 59 in a one-sided contest.

West Skirbeck v Jubilee Park: West Skirbeck usually yo-yo between the top two divisions, so this may well be a “going up” year. Notable was a 47-11 score from Derek Wright, Rob Day and Ike Dilley.

Swineshead v Sibsey A: A good start to the campaign for Swineshead, who won 12-0.

Freiston v Burton House B: Freiston bagged the bulk of the points 9-3, with wins from skips Derek Hunn and Keith Posey plus a draw between Jim Walker and Margaret Chester for Burton House.

Woodhall Town v Norprint: No result submitted.

3 wood section division 1

Wyberton v Woodhall Town: With a strong team out, Wyberton won 11-1.

BBC I v Kirton A: BBC won 8-4 gaining the aggregate by only two shots 69-67.

Burton House A v Wigtoft: A poor start for the champions saw them gain only two points from Jean Cammack, Di Wilson and Mick Asplen. Wigtoft were marginally stronger on the other three rinks winning 17-10 (Graham Wilkinson), 16-12 Ali Saunby and 16-13 (Malc Clark).

Goodfellowship v Sibsey A: A strong Goodfellowship side won 10-2 away at Sibsey, with Dave Bridges, Peter Clark and Peter Parker getting the consolation points by one shot for the home team.

Jubilee Park v Stickney: A narrow one shot aggregate win saw the home team gain 8 points. Both sides may struggle to survive in this division.

3 wood section division 2

Norprint v West End A: Norprint should be a good bet for promotion if they can keep up the form they showed by beating West End A by 10-2 and 89-47. Notable was a 35-11 win from skip Tony Hall’s rink.

Castle v Freiston: Castle took the bulk of the points (8-4) in a narrow 13 shot win over Freiston.

Swineshead v Mareham: Mareham got off to a good start with an 8-4 win over a strong Swineshead side. Wins of 19-11 and 25-10 from skips Jim Kennedy and Pete Smith were enough to win the aggregate by 20 shots.

Wrangle v Burton House B: Wrangle surprisingly took 10 points from this game against a strong Burton House side. Doing the damage were skips Ian Drury and Joe White, a relative newcomer and a man of great experience.

West End B v Wyberton: No result submitted.

3 wood section division 3

Kirton B v West Skirbeck: Kirton scraped home 8-4 by 15 shots against a Skirbeck side who stand a good chance of promotion.

Boston Park v Sleaford Road: Played at Sleaford Road, the tie resulted in a 10-2 win for the home side. However, for the Park, Gordon Neal, Neil Lockwood and Dave Young recorded a 27-9 win.

Donington v BBC II: Only 11 shots separated the two teams, with the aggregate points being earned by the visitors, mainly thanks to a 32-6 win from Bill Mortlock’s rink.

Sibsey B v Friskney: Sibsey B could only manage 2 points thanks to a win from Derick Smith, Ray Dennis and Lee Archer against a Friskney side that could well end up being promoted. There were narrow wins for the visitors from skips Neil Salmon, Alan Brummitt and Roger Burbidge.

Woodhall Town v Sibsey: C: A good start for Woodhall Town with a 10-2 win over Sibsey ‘C’ with a good rink win (32-15) for Ernie and Audrey Brown and Ian Aitken.
