Round-up for week ending August 29

The last results from the 2008 season have finally made it through my letter box, so we are in a position to publish the final tables (above). I would like to thank the vast majority of you for your co-operation in sending results sheets promptly and adequately filled in. A number of issues were dealt with throughout the season by applying goodwill and commonsense, although the odd one or two did get a little out of hand. If anyone has any challenges or disputes regarding the final tables, please let me have them, in writing and quoting ‘chapter and verse’ by September 14.

2 wood section division 1: Wyberton 0 (40), Kirton 12 (109): Wyberton, playing one short suffered a heavy defeat on that rink. Bicker 10 (92), BBC I 2 (66): Bicker deservedly claim the runners up spot with this result, whilst BBC, former leaders slump to fifth.

2 wood section division 2: Woodhall Town 12 (133), West End B 0 (62): There were only nine names on the West End side of the sheet for this game. However, they still hang on as champions, with Woodhall runners up.

3 wood section division 1: Burton House 10 (88), Norprint 2 (49); Burton House 8 (70), Kirton 4 (67): These two results confirm Burton House’s unbeaten run, although Kirton came very close to spoiling it.

3 wood section division 2: Burton House B 12 (84), West End B 0 (63): This result enables Burton House B to avoid relegation, and unfortunately West End’s A replace them in the drop zone. Three rinks were in fact very close, and it would have taken only one of them to win to avoid this.

3 wood section division 3: Jubilee Park 12 (75), Wrangle 0 (46): Jubilee Park are champions, and go up with Mareham, Wrangle just miss out.

3 wood section division 4: Kirton B 12 (85), Sibsey 0 (43); Kirton B 0 (27), Woodhall 12 (64): These two results confirm Kirton’s runners-up status, with Sibsey finishing adrift. Woodhall Town B 0 (43), Wyberton 12 (76): Two good rink wins from skips P Dodes and M Dodes promote Wyberton as Woodhall narrowly miss out.

Round-up for week ending August 22

The scheduled part of the season is now complete and the next two weeks will be taken up with the games postponed for a variety of reasons. These games, over the remainder of August, will lead (hopefully) to the final league tables.

Burton House are three wood champions as well as two wood champions. Although details are not included, as I have not yet received the sheets, they won their last two games to complete the season unbeaten, although I am told that they really had a tussle with Kirton to get the aggregate.

2 Wood Section Division 1: West Skirbeck 0 (56), Bicker 12 (81) from week 4: Skirbeck finished their season getting no points from a close game. The biggest win for Bicker was 10 from Roger Wing and partners, with Skirbeck only four adrift on two rinks.

2 Wood Section Division 2: Woodhall 12 (117), Burton House B 0 (71) (week 4): With this creditable win, Woodhall ensured their place in division one next year. There were good wins on all rinks against a Burton House team that was not without talent. Jubilee Park 8 (86), Swineshead 4 (77) A close result went in favour of the home team, thanks to wins for skips Harry Welburn (25-14) and Craig Aitken (32-7) which just beat the away results of N Wilcox (27-17) and R Turner(29-12). West End A 8 (101), Sibsey 4 (79) (week 4): West End A should end mid-table after this victory over relegated Sibsey. The rinks were shared, the aggregate being won by a 36-12 from Norma Barnes, Gerry Myers and Ray Blackamore. West End A 4 (83), Burton House B 8 (98) (week 3):  Burton House owe the aggregate points to the 39-9 win from Mark and Tina Bennett skipped by John Allen.

3 Wood Section Division 1: Wyberton 10 (88), Goodfellowship 2 (41) (week3): The two points from this game, courtesy of Shirley, Richard and David Allen ensured first division bowling for another season for the Fosdyke team. Wyberton could well finish runners up. Norman Bush, J Elleray and Bernard Skelton won 30-5 for the home team. Wigtoft 3 (62), Wyberton 9 (64) (week 4): A narrow win for Wyberton, with no big wins and even a draw. Wigtoft 2 (58), Burton House A 10 (78): These points are enough to give Burton House the three wood title to add to the two wood championship won earlier. Bob Askey’s rink won 27-14, with more modest wins from skips Mick Asplen and Ken Porter.

3 Wood Section Division 2: Burton House B 10 (59), Swineshead 2 (48) (week 8): This was a closer result than the score suggest. Two rinks were drawn, one was won by three shots and the biggest winners were Mary Whelbourn, Eric Periera and Pete Vines with 19-11. Burton House B 2 (55), Stickney 10 (85) (week 14): Stickney needed five points to ensure promotion and got them with room to spare, winning on three rinks and losing by one on the fourth on what was, by all accounts, a very wet night. These two results mean that Burton House B need 11 points against West End B to ensure their second division status at the expense of West End A.

3 Wood Section Division 4: Friskney 0 (66), Wyberton 12 (77) (week 3): There were no big wins in this game, which could easily have seen the points shared. Rinks skipped by A Westrup (4 shots), Alex Seaton (4 shots), M Dodes (1 shot) and P. Dobbs (2 shots) could easily have been overturned by one of the stronger Friskney rinks.

Round-up for week ending August 15

The last week of fixtures saw rainy weather re-appear, disrupting matches particularly on Wednesday. A number of issues also raised their heads this week, all of which have been resolved. Clubs are reminded to act with commonsense and goodwill. I must also point out that there is no rule in this league that says games must start at 6.15pm in August. Rule 27 stipulates ‘not later than 6-30 prompt’. You may, of course start earlier by mutual agreement.

2 Wood Section Division 1: West Skirbeck 10 (96), Wyberton 2 (72): Having not scored more than 2 points in any game this season, already relegated club West Skirbeck beat Wyberton, also relegated, 10-2. BBC I 2 (65), Bicker 10 (125): Away scores of 35, 36 and 37 from skips Roger Wing, Wayne Phoenix and Dave Allerton saw the strong Bicker side take the bulk of the points. Kirton A 10 (101) – Sleaford Road 2 (69): Albert Crowder, Dave Gill and Geoff Parker won by 33-10 for Kirton, John Dawson, Ted Bourne and Paul Wiles won 29-18 for the visitors only points. Wigtoft 8 (96), Burton House 4 (85): Good wins of 28-16 from Pip Clark and 31-16 from Graham Wilkinson ensure Wigtoft the aggregate. Backlog: Wyberton v Kirton A wk4, West Skirbeck v Bicker wk4, Bicker v BBC I wk7.

2 Wood Section Division 2: West End B 8 (89), West End A 4 (76): Leaders West End B move closer to promotion, helped by a 33-10 from Janet Vinter, Louise Swain and Peter Tracey. Burton House B 2 (81), Sibsey A 10 (88): A set back for promotion hopefuls Burton House was also a slight lifeline for Sibsey, for whom Pat and Alan Woods with Harold Best won 30-18. Woodhall 8 (81), West End A 4 (79) week 12: A good rink win from Dennis and Brenda Crabtree with Dave Bradshaw was enough to get the extra 4 points. Backlog: West End A v Burton House B wk3, West End A v Sibsey A wk4, Woodhall v Burton House B wk4, Woodhall B v West End B wk13, Jubilee Park v Swineshead wk 14.

2 Wood Section Division 3: BBC II 12 (101), Norprint 0 (49): A strong BBC team demolished Norprint to seal their place at the top. Sue Upsall, Muriel Watson and Gus Grant won 30-10. Kirton B 4 (52), Woodhall 8 (98). Freiston 12 (96), Sleaford Road 0 (69): Second place Freiston occupy match the leaders by scoring a maximum in a game in which three rinks were close. Maureen and Derek Hunn, with R Woodcock, won by 32-16. Backlog: Kirton B v Norprint wk4, Freiston v Sleaford Road wk5.

3 Wood Section Division 1: BBC I 3 (60), Burton House A 9 (73): Burton House creep closer to the title but can still be caught. While Pete Vines, Di Wilson and Mick Asplen won 26-13, the maximum rink win after that was 3, and the result could have gone either way. Norprint 4 (71), Kirton 8 (74): The bottom two clubs fought out a game that in the end helped neither of them, although Kirton will move up a place. Skips Stan Lawrence (23-12) and Brian Bannister (25-14) won for Kirton, Barry Trigg won narrowly for Norprint, and a 23-6 from Dave France, Tony Hall and Ben Allitt came close to winning the aggregate. Goodfellowship 2 (57), Wigtoft 10 (73): Goodfellowship slip into the bottom two whilst Wigtoft still have a slim chance of catching the leaders. The big rink win was John Murphy, Seamus Rooney and Graham Wilkinson with a 30-16. Wyberton 10 (65), Sibsey 2 (58): A close game with no big wins. Backlog: Wyberton v Goodfellowship wk3, Burton House A v Norprint wk3, Wigtoft v Wyberton wk4, Wigtoft v Burton House A wk5, Burton House A v Kirton A wk9.

3 Wood Section Division 2: Apology: An error was found in week for the league table. A result for West End A had been recorded for West End B. Burton House B 0 (41), Woodhall 12 (94):  This result from week 13 deepens the despair of the Burton House second string and propels Woodhall towards the winners slot. Ray Dales, Paul Fox and John Gee won particularly well with 25-7. Castle 10 (83), Swineshead 2 (53): This was a good win for a strong Castle side that should see them finish third. Woodhall 12 (79), West End A 0 (50): Woodhall will finish as champions following this win. David Bradshaw, Paul Fox and Brian Connelly were the big winners with 29-9. West End B 4 (60), Freiston 8 (62): Both teams should finish mid-table after this close game. Skips Ian Smith and Barry Harrington for Freiston slightly outscored John Fensom and Peter Tracey for West End. Burton House B 2, Stickney 10 (no sheet available as yet). Backlog: Burton House B v Swineshead wk8, Burton House B v West End B wk10.

3 Wood Section Division 3: BBC 12 (79), Sibsey B 0 (54): This comprehensive win for BBC from week 13 will take them clear of the bottom 2 and make it impossible for Sibsey to escape. Sibsey B 10 (66), Sleaford Road 2 (48): A good win in their last game has come to late for Sibsey. Derek Smith, Peter Truepenny and Alan Dunnett won 24-11. Boston Park 2 (57), Mareham 10 (71): Mareham hit form again after last week disappointment with D. Sanderson, C Fricker and Jim Kennedy winning 24-15. This will put Mareham second as the previous top two did not play. West Skirbeck 12 (86), BBC II 0 (47): This was another good result for Skirbeck with wins from all rinks skipped by Robbie Rutherford 17-11, John Stevens 28-11, Barry Bagley 19-8 and P Hoyles 22–17. West Skirbeck 3 (46), Boston Park 9 (54) from week 9. This win for Boston Park will keep them in mid table. Backlog: Jubilee Park v Wrangle wk 14.

3 Wood Section Division 4: Donington 10 (63), Sibsey C 2 (41). Backlog: Friskney v Wyberton wk3, Woodhall B v Wyberton wk7, Kirton B v Sibsey C wk9, Kirton B v Woodhall B wk13,

Round-up for week ending August 8

After the penultimate round of fixtures in the various divisions, little has still been decided. However, Burton House are Division Two champions and last years winners Sleaford Road are runners-up. In all other divisions, a few other issues have been decided, as will be detailed below. However, I expect there to be fewer but larger divisions next year, so promotion and relegation may not be as it seems.

As the outdoor season begins to draw to a close, and before you all hibernate, can I ask clubs to consider the entries for next year please? Each year teams are sent a sheet to take to the annual meeting entering the teams for the following year. This year, two teams dropped out shortly before the season began. This caused me a lot of extra work and in one case deprived other members of games. Other clubs found themselves short of players and were good enough to struggle through the season to avoid further disruption. I know that it is difficult to predict as far ahead as May next year, but please think about this matter while you are all still together, and let me know if you are going to drop teams

2 Wood Section Division 1: Burton House A 10 (117), Wyberton 2 (70); Kirton A 10 (108), BBC I 2 (85); Wigtoft 11 (1), West Skirbeck 58; Sleaford Road 9 (97), Bicker 3 (80). Champions are Burton House, with Sleaford Road as runners-up. Wyberton and West Skirbeck are relegated.

2 Wood Section Division 2: Swineshead 9 (87), Sibsey 3 (72);  Jubilee Park 10 (97), Burton House B 2 (91). Winners and runners-up will be from West End B, Woodhall and Burton House B Any of the other four could still be relegated.

2 wood section division 3: Kirton B 2 (61), Norprint 10 (92); Sleaford Road 2 (71), BBC II 10 (105) from week 11; Sleaford Road 4 (76), Woodhall 8 (98); Freiston 4 (83), BBC II 8 (85). Either BBC II or Freiston will win, the other being runner-up.

3 Wood Section Division 1: Norprint 8 (78), Wyberton 4 (68); Burton House A 8 (68), Goodfellowship 4 (56); Wigtoft 10 (94), BBC I 2 (51); Kirton A 4 (67), Sibsey 8 (72). Any from the top four could still win it, 113 points being the target. Any of the lower four could be relegated.

3 Wood Section Division 2: Stickney 12 (91), West End A 0 (51); Freiston 4 (67), Castle 8 (76); West End B 8 (62), Swineshead 4 (57). The champions and runners-up will come from Woodhall, Stickney or Castle. Swineshead are relegated, plus any one of the other teams.

3 Wood Section Division 3: Sleaford Road 2 (48), West Skirbeck 10 (68); Jubilee Park 12 (102), Mareham 0 (31); Boston Park 9 (70), Wrangle 3 (57). The winner and runner up will come from Jubilee Park, Wrangle or Mareham. Sleaford Road are relegated.

3 Wood Section Division 4: I must apologise for an error that had been made in the league table for this division. This has now been corrected and all other results checked. Kirton B 8 (71), Wyberton 4 (61) from week 12; Sibsey C 4 (63), Friskney 8 (76). No promotion or relegation issues are decided as yet due to the backlog of fixtures.

Round-up for week ending August 1

Although the season has only two weeks to go, very few matters are resolved yet. However, to use a crown green term, many are “all but”. I would be surprised if Burton House did not win both the two wood championships.

2 Wood Section Division 1: Bicker 10 (103), Kirton 2 (79): This was a comprehensive win for the strong Bicker side. Kirton have never really played up to their potential this year. Three rinks were won and lost by less than three shots, with only Dave Allerton’s rink winning well for Bicker (35-15). Sleaford Road 2(79), Wigtoft 10 (90): Sleaford Rd. wasted their game in hand by losing at home. Only the former Nomads, Colin Palmer, George Hardstaff and Keith French won whilst skips Ali Saunby, Pip Clark and Graham Wilkinson netted most of the points for the visitors. BBC I 4 (83), Sleaford Road 8 (88): Both teams were in with a chance of taking the championship, but this has receded after they split the points. Skips Rod West and captain Arnold Bennett provided the home points, whilst the Nomads won by one and Messrs Bertram, Tointon and Ab French won 32-13 to take the aggregate. Wyberton 4 (83), Wigtoft 8 (96): Wins of 33-16 and 30-17 from visiting skips Steve Fisher and Graham Wilkinson were enough to take the aggregate. Burton House 12 (126), West Skirbeck 0 (55): Skirbeck did not manage their 2 this week, but I am told that D. Butwright, Ivor Roberts and P Hoyles lost it on the last two ends (19-22) Burton House Skips Pete Asplen, Bob Askey and Mick Asplen all won with scores in themed 30s.

2 Wood Section Division 2: Burton House B 10 (107), Jubilee Park  2 (76): A previously cancelled week 6 result has a good win for Burton House that should haul them up the table. The biggest rink win was 34-14 from Alan Bates, Tina White and Margaret Chester. Swineshead 2 (82), Burton House B 10 (111): A further ten for Burton House, this time with Derek Whelbourn, assisted by Mark and Tina Bennett winning 36-13. Burton House B 10 (92), Swineshead 2 (71): The return fixture from week 5 showed the same result. Margaret Chester, helped no doubt by Tina White and Alan Bates won 33-20. Sibsey A 2 (79), Jubilee Park 10 (105): This was a much needed win for Jubilee Park, who keep their hopes of staying in this division alive. A Herrick, K Manley and J Ulyatt won 40-11, whilst for the home side Charles Russell’s rink won 30-13.

2 wood section division 3:  Sleaford Road 4 (80), Kirton B 8 (93): This match between the two bottom teams showed a 33-12 win for Kirton’s J Bates, S Cressey and R Fant. Woodhall Spa 2 (70), BBC II 10 (91): This was a good win for second placed BBC over near rivals Woodhall. Norprint 2 (52), Freiston 10 (123): Top team Freiston were far too good for strugglers Norprint, the three winning skips all scoring over 30 shots.

3 wood section division 1: Sibsey 10 (77), Norprint 2 (53): Sibsey’s recent run of good form continues, but with only two games left may not be enough to keep them up. There were big wins for Gordon Wells, Lee Archer and Keith Woods (22-12) and Tracy Hodgson, Maureen Brammer and Derek Grainger (21-7). Wyberton 12 (87), Kirton 0 (60): Kirton had no answer at all for a rampant Wyberton team. The rink wins were not huge, 6 or 7, but the overall consistency gained all the points. BBC I 10 (66), Goodfellowship 2 (54): Challengers BBC beat the mid table Fosdyke club modestly on three rinks, with Joe Moore’s rink gaining two points for the visitors. Burton House 10 (83), Wigtoft 2 (48): Burton House keep moving towards the championship with a series of good wins, but are not there yet. N Gott, B Holden and Ali Saunby got the only points for Wigtoft with a one shot win.

3 wood section division 2: Always the division that gets all its results in early, by Thursday I already have an up to date league table. Woodhall Spa 5 (70), Stickney 7 (77): The top two teams played each other with Stckney narrowly coming out on top. Skips Ken Robinson and Shaun Wells drew, but the rest of Stickney’s points were courtesy of David Todd, Steve Todd and Jeff Nicholson with a 27-14 that won the aggregate with room to spare. However, the Committee have agreed to dock Stickney the 5 points they gained in the week 2 game when they breached rule 22. Castle 12 (81), West End B 0 (39): Next two teams in the division exchange places after this rout by Castle. The visitors did not reach double figures on three rinks. Maybe they don’t travel well. West End A 10 (82), Burton House B 2 (70): West End move well clear of the bottom two, but Burton House sink further. The biggest win was 20-11 from Mister Rogers, Mick Hippisley and Ray Blackamore. Freiston 10 (93), Swineshead 2 (58): Freiston move towards mid-division safety, and Swineshead should look out their parachutes, with only Gill Dawson, B. Clark and Geoff Dawson getting them any points. For the home team, Richard Sharp, Sandra Tebbs and Barry Nightingale won 25-9, with Wendy Sharp, Beryl Brewster and John Stray getting 22-8.

3 Wood Section Division 3: Sleaford Road 8 (68), Boston Park 4 (66) Only two shots separated the teams at the end of this week 4 match. Skips Arnold Pape and C. Newham won for the Park, but Mick Brown and Ted Bourne just pipped them to the aggregate. Sibsey B 7 (67), West Skirbeck 5 (64) George Bulman’s rink drew with Barry Bagley’s, but Alan Dunnett’s rink win of 21-9 was enough to win the aggregate for Sibsey. Sleaford Road 2 (57), BBC II 10 (79) The best win in this game was a 24-8 from BBC’s D Cunningham, B Sansam and J Meeds. Wrangle 4 (61), Mareham 8 (65): The two top teams met in this clash, with Mareham having struggled lately. Both won two rinks, with a 17-9 from A Wickers, C Beardsworth and J Kennedy’s 17-9 being enough to get the aggregate in a close game. Boston Park 2 (58), Jubilee Park 10 (80): Jubilee Park move into a close third place with this win. Mr and Mrs Welburn with Frank Manley won 22-13, which was the Park’s biggest win.

Round-up for week ending July 25

The Shipstone Cup competition was successfully held at Sibsey Bowls Club on Saturday July 26. Six triples entered, two from the home green, and one each from Freiston, Friskney, BBC and Stickney. Each team played the others, so there were five games of eight ends. The day was nice, the competition was well organised and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The winners were the home rink of Wendy King, Eileen Brown and Ivor Brown.

2 Wood Section Division 1: BBC I 10, Burton House 2: A text result not confirmed by the sheet yet shows a major slip up for the champions elect. This may turn into a three horse race. Wigtoft 10 (99), Sleaford Road 2 (92): Second placed Sleaford Road also slipped up at Wigtoft, also getting only two points. There were narrow wins for the home skips P Clark and G Wilkinson, with S Fisher’s rink getting a 31-19. Les Feary’s rink replied well with 30-20 but fell either shots short of the aggregate. Kirton A 12 (106), Wyberton 0 (79): Kirton went a long way to making their place in this division safe with this result. Wyberton however look like facing the drop. Three rinks were close with Darren Little, Dave Gill and Geoff Parker being more convincing with 30-17. Bicker 10 (88), West Skirbeck 2 (81): This was disappointing for Skirbeck as they got to within seven shots for the aggregate. Wayne Phoenix’s rink won well for Bicker, but there was a 28-16 reply from a Skirbeck rink, sorry I can’t say who as the away team names are not on the sheet. So, Burton House are still 15 points clear of both Sleaford Road and BBC I, having played a game more.

2 Wood Section Division 2: West End B 10 (93), Sibsey 2 (81): This result from last week shows the divisions leaders beating the bottom club. Again three rinks were close, but Sally Hippisley, Keith Swain and John Fensom won 27-17. West End B 12 (104) Jubilee Park 0 (72) This weeks result is also good for the leaders who now have a 25 point lead, whilst the park side are beginning to flirt with relegation. Burton House B 2 (72), Woodhall 10 (92): Second placed Woodhall confirmed their pedigree with this result over a Burton House team that still have a number of games in hand. Notable was a 32-13 for captain Brenda Crabtree’s rink. Sibsey A 10 (111),West End A 2 (65): A good result result for bottom placed Sibsey over third Placed West End A brings them close to the pack. There was a particularly good score of 35-7 from J. Gash, M. Dobbs and Dave Bridges.

2 Wood Section Division 3: Kirton 8 (85), BBC II 4 (80): The leaders slipped up away to the bottom club and slip a place. Rinks skipped by K Gomm (27-16) and G Gorringe (28-16) won for Kirton, while the BBC winners were D May and Phil Markham who did enough to win the aggregate. Norprint 10 (89), Sleaford Road 2 (82): Seven shots was enough to get the bulk of the points for Norprint in this game at the lower end of the table. All rinks had narrows wins. Freiston 10 (91), Woodhall 2 (73): Freiston go top as a result of this convincing win. Beryl Brewster, Harold Philpott and D Woodcock won 30-17

3 wood section division 1: Burton House 12 (81), Sibsey A 0 (54) The leaders pull further ahead with games in hand. Three home rinks had to fight to win by 4 shots each, but Ted Tasker, Tom Richardson and Ken Porter won 24-9. Wyberton 3 (67) Wigtoft 9 (77): Wigtoft got the better of this mid table clash against a Wyberton team who are still not making any waves. Andrew Limb, Ivan Kisby and Mick Dodes won 24-11 which was topped by a 32-11 from the Rooney family with G. Wilkinson.

Norprint 2 (58), BBC I 10 (83): Norprint grabbed two points with a single shot win from Richard Vinter’s rink and stay bottom. BBC go second, but others have games in hand. Kirton A 2 (59), Goodfellowship 10 (81): These two teams swapped places at the lower end of mid-table. Gordon Harris, Chris Gill and Geoff Parker got the home teams points with 26-7, but wins of 20-14 (Mick Rate), 30-8 (all the Allens) and 24-11 (John Templeman) more that won the aggregate.

3 wood section division 2: SWINESHEAD 8 (72) STICKNEY 4 (69): A first win of the season for this Swineshead team came against a Stickney team who were playing two people short. The two short rinks did well to keep in touch losing by just 2 and 5. Stickney can ill afford to drop points in this way. Woodhall Town 9 (67), Castle 3 (66): Leaders Woodhall will pull further away after this narrow win over fourth. place Castle. A 9 shot home rink win from skip Bill Busby was matched by the away rink skipped by P. Ulyett. Brian Connelly, Norman Wrigglesworth and Dave Bradshaw won by one for the Town, and skips Josie Cutting and Neil Rodgers drew. West End B 8 (86), West End A 4 (63): This game went according to form, and the B side are still third but closing in on the second promotion spot. Notable was a 30-8 win for Alf Twiddy, Keith Swain and J Fenson against a very good A-team rink. Burton House B 9 (75), Freiston 3 (72): This was a close game in all respects. The biggest rink win was three shots. Burton House are still seventh, but do have two games in hand on most teams. More results like this are needed if they are to avoid a second successive relegation.

3 wood section division 3: Boston Park 12 (78), Sleaford Road 0 (43): Park will pull out of the bottom two after this one sided result against fellow strugglers Sleaford Road. Jubilee Park 11 (97), Sibsey B 1 (47): Third placed Park did well against struggler Sibsey B winning by 18, 17 and 15 on three of the rinks. One Sibsey rink drew, but again I cannot tell you who as the sheet has the same names for the home and away players. BBC II 10 (83), Mareham 2 (63): Mareham lose for the second week on the trot and relinquish the lead. Bill Mortlock’s rink won 25-14 for BBC, and one rink won for Mareham, but there are no names on their side of the sheet. Wrangle 10 (63), West. Skirbeck 2 (53): Wrangle go top as a result of this strong win and Mareham’s slip-up. Cyn Baker, Jill Rousell and Russ Rousell won 24-9 while Derek Wright, Mick Bond and John Stevens got the consolation points for Skirbeck.

3 wood section division 4: Sibsey C 4 (64), Woodhall B 8 (64): In most 8-4 results, both sides win two rinks and one gets four points for the aggregate. This time Peter Parkers rink was the only one for Sibsey by 28-9, and this was enough to share the aggregate. Woodhall won two rinks narrowly and a 29-13 from Duncan Macnaughton’s rink. Friskney 0 (59), Kirton B 12 (77): Kirton B go second with all the points from a close game, with the 22-13 from T Pitt’s rink being the only large score. Donington 3 (54), Friskney 9 (83): According to the sheets, on the same night as the above game, a second separate Friskney team played a week 12 match at Donington. Notable was a creditable 36-12 win from Margaret Grant, Ruth Crofts and Roger Burbidge.

Round-up for week ending July 18

SUPPORT NEEDED FOR SHIPSTONE CUP

The Shipstone Cup has been contested by Boston League teams since 1949 and possibly earlier. In recent years it has fallen into decline and has been cancelled on some occasions. This year it is a triples competition and will be played at Sibsey B.C. on Saturday 26th. July. Entries are currently low, and more are needed. Please contact Sue Bridges on 01205 750314 by Thursday July 24 and enter a set. Two sets are allowed per club. It would be disappointing for the competition to be allowed to die out like the Fred Fossitt Memorial Trophy did.

*****

2 Wood Section Division 1: Sleaford Road’s title hopes took a knock with an unusual 6 all draw at home to Wyberton. There were narrow wins for visiting skips N Blakey, Simon Reeson and Dave Heron, but a massive 44-11 from Colin Palmer, George Hardstaff and Keith French ensured the aggregate with room to spare. Bicker lost 2-10 to Burton House in an expectedly tight game, with only Pete Vines, Di Wilson and Mick Asplen winning strongly. West Skirbeck got their usual 2 at home to Kirton A courtesy of Derek Wright, T. Davison and Ivan Dilley. Darren Little, Dave Gill and Geoff Parker won 34-13 for the visitors. Wigtoft also lost 2-10 at home, their opponents were BBC I, whose W Bray, M Watson and Arnold Bennett won 34-8.

2 Wood Section Division 2: Burton House B are now getting into their stride and won 10-2 at home to West End A by 8 shots. Woodhall beat Swineshead 10-2 and by 27 shots.

2 Wood Section Division 3: This division has each team playing each other for the third time, two rinks at home two rinks away, unless agreed otherwise. I hope that this is working out, but promise it won’t happen again next year. An unusual result from Kirton saw them lose 3-9 and by ten shots to Freiston. One rink drew, there was a 40-18 from J Bates, B Martin and G Gorringe for the home team and a 37-8 for Freiston from Derek Hunn’s rink. Norprint lost 4-8 at home to Woodhall, with visiting skip Duncan McNaughton winning 35-16.

3 Wood Section Division 1: Goodfellowship will slip down the table after this disappointing result against Wyberton who won steadily on all rinks and by 46 shots. Sibsey A meanwhile are on the up following a 9-3 win over a strong Wigtoft team. There were narrow wins for skips Barry Freeston, Charles Russell and Dave Bridges, with Ali Saunby’s rink getting the points for Wigtoft. Leaders BBC I won 8-4 against Kirton, with a 35-7 from Sue Upsall, Alan West and Ron Flower. Norprint were swamped by Burton House 0-12 and 42-88. A 27-7 from Richard Whittaker, Tom Richardson and Steve Asplen was notable.

3 Wood Section Division 2: Second placed Stickney will be disappointed to lose 8-4 at home to Freiston, losing the aggregate by only one shot. Leaders Woodhall moved further ahead with a 12-0 win away to bottom club Swineshead. Castle drop to fourth after an 8-4 loss away to West End A. Doing the damage was Jenny Holmes, Ann Kemp and Ralph Sawer with a 33-8.

3 Wood Section Division 3: Mareham’s unbeaten run stretching back to the second week of the season has come to an end. During that period they had picked up 78 out of the 96 points available. Spoiling the run were Sleaford Rd. who won narrowly on Mick Brown’s rink, and had good wins from skips Tony Bush and D. Taylor. Mareham’s only points came from captain Pete Smith with D Hodgson and J Smith. Hot on Mareham’s heels are Wrangle who picked up all the points at home to BBC II, and are now only two points behind the leaders. West Skirbeck won 8-4 at home to Jubilee Park, but got the aggregate by only one shot. Boston Park won 10-2 home to Sibsey B.

3 Wood Section Division 4: Late submission of results is an issue at the moment. The record has been taken by a result from June 4 that arrived with me on July 17. It showed Kirton B took ten points from Friskney with a 70-54 shot difference. Wyberton beat Friskney 8-4 and by 89 shots to 70.

Round-up for week ending July 11

Sleaford Road moved close to Burton House in the Two Wood Championship, and they still have a game in hand. BBC I are hanging on as outsiders. In the Three Wood Section, Burton House were rained off and BBC I go top, but have played three games more.

2 Wood Section Division One: In a week eight result, Kirton A drew 6-6 with Wigtoft. This was achieved by he away rinks skipped by G. Wilkinson, P. Clark and M. Clark winning narrowly, with Gordon Harris, Brian Bates and Bryan Bannister winning 27-14 to steal the aggregate by one shot. In past times, “Arsenal 1” used to be a regular part of football results. This season “West Skirbeck 2” is equally frequent in bowls. Playing away to Sleaford Road, their steady progress towards a drop into Division Two continued. The home team took 10 points, bringing them closer to leaders Burton House. John Dawson, Keith Tointon and Paul Wiles scored 38 for the home team while Gordon Gallichan, Ivor Roberts and P. Hoyles got Skirbeck's points. Although the sheet yet has not yet been received, Kirton lost 4-8 at home to Burton House. Please try to ensure that the sheets arrive the Saturday of the week in which the game is played. Wigtoft are safe in mid-table after a 10-2 win over Bicker. Notable was a 35-11 from John Murphy, Seamus Rooney and G. Wilkinson. One time leaders BBC I are creeping up the table again after a 10-2 win over Wyberton, who remain in the lower reaches of the table. Bun Reeson, Tina Reeson and Andy Dawson got the two points for the visitors with a 26-18.

2 Wood Section Division Two: In the Woodhall Spa derby match, Woodhall Spa Town lost 4-8 to neighbours Jubilee Park. The aggregate was close, at seven shots, possibly the rink that won the extra points was Mr and Mrs Welburn, skipped by Frank Manley. Second-placed West End A won 8-4 at home to Swineshead, but the aggregate was only three shots. Winning rinks for West End were Joe Rechowicz, Tommy Horn and John Sellars with a modest 19-15, while Alf Twiddy, Gerry Myers and Ray Blackamore won by 31-18. Rinks skipped by J Bouchereau and Geoff Dawson both won for the visitors. Playing their third game of the season, Burton House B picked up eight points from West End B in a narrow 86-77 win. Both sides had two rinks winning well, but the rinks skipped by Pauline Richardson (28-16) and Barry Richardson (34-14) claimed the aggregate.

2 Wood Section Division Three: In a rearranged week five game, bottom club Kirton B beat Woodhall 9-3. A big influence on this was a 31-17 from V Gomm, B Weaver and R Fant. Leaders BBC II added another 10 to their total after beating Sleaford Road. R Hudson, Chris Medcalf and Brian Grant won 26-11, with the other rinks being close. The ever-talented Bill Earth skipped his rink to the visitors’ two points. Freiston demolished Kirton B 12-0 and 118-57, with home skips Derek Hunn, Jim Walker, Keith Posey and Mark Brown all posting big scores. The mid-table teams, Norprint and Woodhall Spa Town, shared the points 6-6, with the aggregate being 70-103. Three rinks won narrowly at home, but the aggregate was won well for the visitors with a 46-5 for Ray Crick, Caz Bradshaw and Duncan McNaughton.

3 Wood Section Division One: We start with a trio of results from Sibsey. In week seven they lost at home to Wyberton, only by five shots but on points 2-10. The biggest win was 18-12 for the away skip Bernard Skelton. In week eight, again at home they lost by 11 shots to BBC I, but managed four points from skips Charles Russell and Keith Woods. A good result was obtained this week, a 10-2 from second place Goodfellowship. Skips Charles Russell again, Dave Bridges and Sue Bridges all won well enough to overturn the 24-13 for the visitors from Joe Moore's rink. A Kirton A result from week eight was also received where they beat Wigtoft 10-2. Notable was a 29-7 from Brian Bates, Ken Rawlings and Bryan Bannister which contributed to a 78-57 win. In this week's match Wigtoft won 11-1 against Norprint. A Dossell, Jim Gott and Pip Clark won 23-8. New leaders BBC I beat strugglers Wyberton 8-4, a win of 28-11 for Sue Upsall, Alan West and Ron Flower ensuring the aggregate points.

3 Wood Section Division Two: Stickney remain second after an 8-4 (74-56) win over third-placed West End B. There was a good home performance from Gill and Dave Newman, with Shaun Wells who won 32-8. Freiston lost by 10 shots at home to leaders Woodhall but the points went 2-10, with the visitors extending their lead at the top. Nobody won by more than six shots. West End A scored a 10-2 win at home to Swineshead, with the aggregate being a rather large 37 shots. Ray Blackamore, Mr Rogers and John Sellars won 22-7 and Jenny Holmes, Ann Kemp and Ralph Sawer won 28-10. Castle will move up to third as a result of a 10-2 win over under-performing Burton House B. A 29-5 from Gordon Wells, Tom Scholey and A. Watson was the leading score for Castle, with skip Peter Horn getting the consolation points.

3 Wood Section Division Three: Jubilee Park went on the rampage at home, gaining all the points from BBC II. All home skips won well, the biggest being a 29-13 from A Herrick, T Bourne and Dennis Sharpe. Leaders Mareham picked up eight points away to Sibsey B. The aggregate was close (69-71 after a recount) with all rinks being close. Received by email, Wrangle won 9-3 away at Sleaford Road. There was a good rink win for K. Hammerton with Tony and Ian Drury who won 23-8.

3 Wood Section Division Fours: Leaders Woodhall Town slipped up at home to Friskney. They scraped two points from a 16-15 on Duncan McNaughton’s rink, but Friskney skips A Rice, R Burbage and J Smith all won comfortably. Second-placed Wyberton gained ground with a 10-2 win over Donington. They were heroes for playing on Wednesday, and from the scores the game was shortened as allowed for in the rules.

Round-up for week ending July 4

As we enter the second half of the season, the league tables are beginning to take shape. Please help to keep them up to date by getting the results to me promptly. Most games are played at the latest on Wednesday, so should be with me Saturday at the latest to be included.

2 Wood Section Division 1:

Sleaford Road 10 (106), Kirton 2 (61): A week 7 result shows Sleaford Road making good ground, and Kirton not keeping clear of the drop. A 32-7 for Sue Simpson-Shaw, Ted Bourne and Les Feary made a big difference for the home team, with skip Brian Bannister getting the consolation points for Kirton. Burton House 8 (85), Sleaford Road 4 (80): A potential title decider went narrowly to the leaders. Three rinks were close, but Mr. and Mrs Asplen, with Richard White won by 11 to claim the aggregate. West Skirbeck 2 (77), BBC I 10 (110): The usual two points for Skirbeck saw the lose ground. A narrow win for Derek Wright, Ken Sharman and Ivan Dilley was all they had to show. BBC have dropped off the pace recently but could still challenge for the title. Wins for skips Alan West, Rod West and Arnold Bennett saw them home. Wyberton 2 (72), Bicker 10 (116) Notable rink wins recorded for Bicker were a 43-13 for skip Dave Allerton and 32-17 for Paul Massingham. No results in for Kirton A v Wigtoft.

2 Wood Section Division 2:

Swineshead 2 (68), West End B 10 (109): A 36-14 win for West End’s Diane Bedford, Sheila Sawer and Pete Bedford and a 31-12 from Sally Hippisley, Keith Swain and John Fensom won them the bulk of the points. Jubilee Park 2 (83), West End B 10 (111): This was a rearranged match from week 4 and resulted in another ten points for the visitors. All the winning rinks scored 29 shots, skips Pete Bedford, Norman Ablard and Janet Vinter for West End, and Dennis Sharpe for the home team. Sibsey A 8 (89), Woodhall 4 (82) Bottom club Sibsey ambushed second placed Woodhall with a valuable 7-shot win. Wins for rinks skipped by Charles Russell and Barry Thompson for Sibsey narrowly outscored replies from Dennis Crabtree and John Gee. West End A 8 (97), Jubilee Park 4 (77): A 36-15 win for Norma Barnes, Gerry Myers and Ray Blackamore and a more modest 21-18 from Peter Myers, Dorothy Hawkesworth and Geoff Barnes was enough to outscore Jubilee Park and claim the aggregate comfortably.

2 Wood Section Division 3: Woodhall Spa 10 (122), Kirton B 2 (71): Notable were rink wins of 48-14 from John Anstee, Ernie Brown and Audrey Brown and 35-12 from Duncan McNaughton’s rink. J Bates, R Martin and R Fant got a 30-14 for Kirton. Norprint 2 (69), BBC II 10 (101): Top club BBC extend their league at the expense of Norprint. There were big wins on three rinks skipped by Rob Goodale (32-13), Eric Lewis (28-15) and J. Meeds (25-14) with only R Loughran’s rink counting for the home team. Sleaford Road 8 (82), Freiston 4 (79): A rink win of 30-16 from L. Mitchell, Ray Hobart and D Taylor was enough to narrowly gain the aggregate points, with both sides winning two rinks.

3 Wood Section Division 1: Norprint 6 (67), Goodfellowship 6 (67): This tightest possible result probably did neither side any good. A 27-9 for Dave France, Margaret Broughton and Ralph Pick for Norprint was just bettered by a 27-9 for the visitors Shirley Moore, Colin Baxter and Joe Moore. Both the other rinks were close resulting in a tied game. Judging by the sheet, there were a number of recounts by the captains. Wyberton 4 (72), Burton House A 8 (79): Wyberton narrowly missed out on the aggregate. There was a good win for A Tomlin, D Heron and M Tomlin for the home team. The visitors’ score of 26-15 from R Whittaker, P Asplen and S Asplen bettered this. No results in for Sibsey A v BBC I and Kirton A v Wigtoft.

3 Wood Section Division 2: Castle 6 (70), Stickney 6 (75): Castle won narrowly on three rinks, but a 23-9 for David Todd, Steve Todd and Jeff Nicholson was enough for the aggregate. The result may disappoint both teams. Freiston 4 (66), West End A 8 (77): A home 20-5 from Mark Brown’s rink was matched by a 28-14 from Jenny Holmes, Mr Rogers and John Sellars, and overtaken by a 30-14 for R Blackamore’s rink to gain West End the extra 4 points. West End B 4 (64), Woodhall 8 (68): Woodhall increase their lead slightly with this result. Again it was a narrow win with rinks skipped by Dennis Crabtree (24-9) and David Bradshaw (23-15) for the visitors bettering a modest win for Norman Ablard’s rink and a 21-5 from home skip Pete Bedford. No results in for Burton House B v Swineshead.

3 Wood Section Division 3: Mareham 10 (87), West Skirbeck 2 (50): Skirbeck drop further behind the leaders Mareham. A home 31-6 for Doreen Sanderson, Colin Beardsworth and Jim Kennedy and 33-7 from Ann Wickens, Joe smith and Pete Smith was the bulk of the points stay at home. Jubilee Park 10 (82), Sleaford Road 2 (60): Ray Hobart’s rink got he points for the visitors, and Frank Manley and partners got a 24-8 for the home team. BBC II 0 (48): Boston Park 12 (65): Bottom team Boston Park surprise the third placed team with a convincing win, although none of the away rinks won by more than 5 shots. Wrangle 11 (66), Sibsey B 1 (55): Second placed Wrangle consolidated their place with a narrow shots win. Again, five shots was the biggest rink margin, with Wrangle skip Ian Drury drawing with Sibsey skip Barry Thompson.

3 Wood Section Division 4: Woodhall Spa Town 12 (90), Donington 0 (48): Three points separated the sides at the start, but Woodhall move clear helped by a 29-7 from Dave & Carolyn Smith with Margaret McNaughton.

Sibsey 2 (64), Wyberton 10 (71): Another close shots score saw M Stopper, captain H Best and K Bourne getting the only home points with a 21-13 win. For Wyberton, Pete Dodes’ rink won by one, Alec Seaton by 8 and Gerald Horrey by 6 to bag the bulk of the points.

Round-up for week ending June 27

2 Wood Section Division 1: Burton House 12 (101), Wigtoft 0 (62): A comprehensive win for the top team shows their strength. Will this be their year? The biggest win was a 33-13 for Ken Porter, Jean Cammack and Richard Whittaker; Wyberton 10 (97), West  Skirbeck 2(81) A huge 36-16 win for Skirbeck’s Derek Wright, Rob Day and Ivan Dilley was not enough to overturn the 32-10 from Norman Bush, Eileen Smithbone and Mick Dodes for Wyberton. Skips Mick Tomlin and Dave Heron and their rinks added the rest of the points for the home team. No results are to hand for Bicker v BBC I, which I think was postponed, or Sleaford Road v Kirton A, which may be late. Burton House stay top, with Sleaford Road capable of catching them.

2 Wood Section Division 2: West End A 9 (89), West End B 3 (78): Front-runners West End B lost quite heavily to the A team in this derby match. For the B team Sally Hippisley, Keith Swain and John Fensom won by 28-14 and for the A team Joe Rechowicz, Ann Kemp and Tommy Horn won 29-15. Skips R Blackamore and Janet Vinter drew. Swineshead 12 (116), Jubilee Park 0 (60): Mid-table Swineshead have come alive and beaten Jubilee Park convincingly. Eileen May, Joan Mews and R Turner won 35-16 and Geoff Dawson’s ring won 31-11. Sibsey A 2 (80), Burton House B 10 (97): A rare outing for Burton House B saw them grab the bulk of the points at Sibsey, although the aggregate difference was not huge.

2 Wood Section Division 3: BBC II 12 (110), Woodhall 0 (79): This was a good win for the leaders over a strong Woodhall side. Rinks skipped by J Meads and Robert Goodale won by 10 shots, and E. Lewis, rink won by 9. The closest rink was a two shot win for D. May’s rink who were almost held by C Bradshaw, I Aitken and R Crick. Freiston 10 (119),  Norprint 2 (69): A 50-shot win saw Freiston go second with a game in hand. Big wins were recorded from skips Derek Hunn, Keith Posey and Barry Nightingale. M.Shaw, B Shaw and J Stainton replied for Norprint. Kirton B 8 (93), Sleaford Road 4 (86): There were only seven shots in the aggregate. The rink that made the difference for Kirton was A. Britchford, J Bates and A Randall with a 31-18.

3 Wood Section Division 1: Wigtoft 10 (88), Goodfellowship 2 (50): Wigtoft will go third as a result of this game. There were steady wins for Wigtoft skips P Clark, Ali Saunby and G Wilkinson, with Shirley Allen, Mick Rate and John Templeman getting the only points for the Fosdyke side. Burton House A 12 (72), BBC I 0(46) Burton House go top after this result, and still have a game in hand. The big win was by Phil Harris, Di Wilson and Mick Asplen with a 26-7, with Brian Grant’s rink getting the points for BBC.  Kirton A 8 (75), Norprint 4 (64): Both mid-table teams gained valuable points. Geoff Parker’s 15-10 for Kirton was matched by Tony Hall’s 15-10 for Norprint. However Tony Nixon, M Goddard and J Evans secured the aggregate with a 23-10 win for Kirton.

3 Wood Section Division 2: This is always the first division to get all its results in. This week we have the following scores. West End A 7 (66), Woodhall 5 (59) Lowly West End A gained some valuable points over leaders Woodhall, who will just stay top. Making the difference for West end were Jenny Holmes, Dorothy Hawkesworth and Gerry Myers who won 24-11 to get not only the rink points but the aggregate also. Woodhall had winning rinks from skips Dennis Crabtree and Ken Robinson but Woodhall fell 7 shots short. Skips R Blackamore and B Connelly drew. Swineshead 2 (53), Castle 10 (82): Castle remain fourth in spite of this win. Brian Sweet’s rink won 22-7 and Stan Avison’s won 29-10. Gill and Geoff Dawson, with B Clarke got the Swineshead points. Stickney 10 (85), Burton House B (64): This game takes Stickney to within a point of Woodhall at the top, while Burton House remain in sixth place. Gill and Dave Newman, with captain Shaun Wells won 29-16 after, I am told, a shaky start. Margaret Chester’s rink was the only winner for Burton House who are, surprisingly, finding this division heavy going. Freiston 6 (57), West End B 6 (52): Narrow wins for West End skips Ron Holmes, Derek Robins and John Fensom fell 5 shots short of the aggregate. Collecting all of Freiston’s six points were Beryl Brewster, Freda Hardy and John Stray with a 21-5 win. West End B 11 (114), Burton House B 1 (43): This was a rearranged game from week 3, and was a comprehensive win for West End against a Burton House team that cannot be described as weak. Notable were wins of 37-3 for Jenny Holmes, Norma Barnes and D Robins and a 32-8 from Sally Hippisley, Keith swain and John Fensom. West End B are now in touch with the leaders.

3 Wood Section Division 3:  Mareham Le Fen 11 (78), Boston Park 1 (57): Mareham are putting a lot of daylight between themselves and the pack, and are beginning to look a good bet for another promotion. There were steady rink wins for Mareham skips John Bontoft, Jim Kennedy and Alan Moore. Captain Pete Smith drew with the Park’s Peter Simpson. Wrangle 4 (62), Jubilee Park 8 (63): Losing the aggregate by one shot is always disappointing and often provokes finger pointing. There were big wins for both a home rink (25-9 for David Clark, V Mabbitt and Ian Drury) and an away rink (28-6 for A. Herrick, T Bourne and D Sharpe) and in the end the result could have gone either way. BBC II 10 (74), West Skirbeck 2 (44): One-time leaders will slip further down the table after this result. For BBC, C Cunningham, Eric Lewis and Ken Whyers won 29-10, with P. Wickstead, Rob Rutherford and Ken Sharman winning 18-11 for Skirbeck’s points. Sleaford Road 10 (76), SIBSEY 2 (62): D Smith, George Bulman and Alan Dunnett salvaged two points for Sibsey. Wins from skips Bill Earth (2 shots) John Riches (9 shots) and Tony Bush (4 shots) secured the rest of the points for Sleaford Road.

3 Wood Section Division 4: Sibsey 5 (57), Donington 7 (73): Sibsey won two rinks and drew one, but were beaten to the aggregate by a 28-10 win for Donington from S and B Eagles, with G Baston.

West Skirbeck 1 (70),Wigtoft 11 (110): More gloom for Skirbeck as Wigtoft return refreshed from the holidays. BBC II 12 (88),Kirton 0 (66): This was less one-sided than it looks, the rink scores all being close.

3 Wood Section Division 1, Wyberton 10 (80), Norprint 2 (44): A 27-6 for Mick Tomlin’s rink and a 22-7 from Simon Reeson’s earned the points; Goodfellowship 5 (66), Burton House A 7(68): One rink was drawn with skips Ken Porter for Burton House and David Allen for Goodfellowship winning well. Sibsey A 10 (68), Kirton A 2 (59): This was a well-needed win for bottom club Sibsey. All rinks results were close. BBC I 3 (62), Wigtoft 9 (82): Skips A Saunby and G Wilkinson won well for the visitors.

3 Wood Section Division 2, Swineshead 2 (58),West End B 10 (78): Two drawn rinks gave the bottom club their only two points; Castle 6 (66), Freiston 6 (70): A 29-8 win for Freda Hardy, Yvonne Smith and Barry Nightingale was enough for all six points for the visitors; West End A 4 (57),  Stickney 8 (66): There were narrow wins for two home rinks but the aggregate was secured for Stickney by a 17-12 from Shaun Well’s rink and 20-13 from Jeff Nicholson’s; Woodhall 10 (82), Burton House. 3 Wood Section Division 4, Woodhall B 8 (80), Kirton B 4 (69): Leaders Woodhall got the aggregate in spite of a 26-14 for the visitors from M Goringe, B Woods and A Pinnick; Friskney 8 (84), Sibsey C 4 (51): Notable is a 41-4 from D Darby, B Clow and R Sands. All other rinks were close.

Round-up for week ending June 13

2 Wood Section Division 1

West Skirbeck 2 (80),Burton House A 10(109): Skirbeck continue to struggle, remain bottom with six points and at this stage look to be certainties for relegation. Burton House remain in pole position with 45 points from five games. For the visitors Ken Porter, with Richard Whittaker and Ted Tasker won 33-15, with Pete Vines, Maurice Kemp and Mick Asplen winning 30-17 on a green that used to be unfathomable to many visitors. For the home team, Mick Roberts, Gordon Gallichan and Robbie Rutherford won 28-14. Wigtoft 11 (98), Wyberton 1(63): Two teams struggling in the nether regions of the division met with all the points except one going to the home team. A 32-8 result from L Blackamore, S Rooney and G Wilkinson led the way, with only a single point from N Blakey’s rink to show for Wyberton. The result raises Wigtoft to fifth place (21 from 4 games) with Wyberton seventh (10/4). Kirton 0 (61), Bicker 12 (126): Kirton may well fall into the relegation zone. With two tough matches coming up they are sixth. with only 14 points from four games. A strong Bicker side won well, with three of the rinks scoring over 30 shots, the best being A and D Slaughter with Roger Wing winning 36-9. They move up to third (33/4). Sleaford Road v BBC I: No result has arrived as yet, although the game is believed to have been played. Sleaford Road have 30 points from three games and are fourth, BBC are second with 34 from 4.

2 Wood Section Division 2

Jubilee Park 10 (117), Sibsey A 2 (79): Sibsey got their first points of the season in this division courtesy of the rink skipper by Lee Archer, who won well (23-13) They remain seventh. All the other home rinks won, but none as well as the 42-18 scored by D West, T Bourne and J Wyatt. Jubilee Park are now fourth with 18 points from 33 games. West End A 10 (97), Woodhall Spa Town 2 (62): Leaders Woodhall came down to earth with a bump at the Princess Street green. David Bradshaw with Dennis & Brenda Crabtree picked up the consolation points with a 20-19. Ann Kemp, A. Twiddy and Tommy Horn won 32-10 for West End. West End A are third with 24/3. As West End B have a bye week, the remain second (32 points from 3 games)  Woodhall remain top (34/4). Burton House B v Swineshead No result has arrived and I suspect that the game was not played. Burton House B have only played one game and have no points. Swineshead are 5th. with ten points from their three games.

2 Wood Section Division 3

BBC II 8 (79), Freiston 4 (78): This is the first of three very close results from this division. A 4-shot win for the BBC rink skipped by D May was equalled for the visitors by Keith Posey’s rink. However, skip Robert Goodale’s 7 shot win was just enough to get the aggregate over J Walker’s 6-shot win for Freiston. BBC II remain top with 42 points, Freiston are third on 36 with a game in hand. Norprint 4 (90), Kirton B 8 (91): Big wins for rinks skipped by R. Loughran and R Hulley for Norprint were not quite enough to beat Kirton B’s winning rinks for skips K Gomm and T Pitts. In spite of this Kirton stay bottom on 15 points with a game in hand on the others, and Norprint are fourth on 31. Woodhall 12 (89), Sleaford Road 0 (81): There were narrow wins for Woodhall on all rinks (1, 1, 2 and 3 shots) leaving Sleaford Rd. unlucky to be pointless. Woodhall shoot up to second with 39 points and a game in hand on the leaders, Sleaford Rod languish in fifth place.

3 Wood Section Division 1

Norprint 12 (76), Sibsey 0 (54): Norprint move off the bottom to sixth with this win (20 pts from 4 games) and are replaced by Sibsey (11 pts from 5). The wins from skips Tony Hall (18-12), D Toynton (22-16) Ralph Pick (20-12) and Barry Barton (16-14) were steady rather than spectacular but ensured maximum points. Kirton A 10 (66), Wyberton 2 (53): A relatively close game saw the majority of the points go to Kirton, with rinks skipper by Geoff Parker, Dave Gill and Stan Lawrence winning. The points for Wyberton came from a 2-shot win by A Tomlin, D Heron and M Tomlin. Kirton are fourth (28 from 5) and Wyberton seventh (14 from 3). Goodfellowship 8 (79), BBC I 4 (72): Skips Richard Lewis and Scott Whyers led their rinks to 5 and 12 shot wins for the visitors. This was more than matched by Shirley and Joe Moore with Shirley Allen (30-13) and Chris and Allen Bristow with Sue Hoyles (19-12). Goodfellowship are second with 32 pts from 4 games and BBC remain top with 36 from 5.Wigtoft v Burton House A was postponed on Monday morning. The holiday season at Wigtoft continues and only 12 players were available. With two then dropping out, rearranging seemed the sensible thing to do. Thanks to Ali Saunby for letting everyone know.

3 Wood Section Division 2

Burton House B 10 (82), West End A 1 (54): A good win for Burton House takes them up to fourth on 28 points with a match in hand. A notable rink win was the 31-5 from Tina Bennett, Roy Bennett and Tom Richardson. West End’s Jenny Holmes, Norma Barnes and Ray Blackamore got their 2 points with a 22-10, the team being in seventh place in the table. West End B 6 (80), Castle 4 (71): The other West End team are sixth after this result, with a game in hand. Only one rink won for them, a 26-9 from Janet Vinter, P Carter and Norman Ablard being enough to win the aggregate as well. Castle are now third on 29 points, with wins for skips Stan Avison, B Sweet and George Wells. Swineshead 2 (57), Freiston 10 (79): Bottom placed Swineshead (13pts) were well beaten by Freiston who move up to fifth with 28. Notable was the 31-6 win for the visitors from Richard Sharp, Yvonne Smith and Barry Nightingale and a 24-8 win for the home rink of G Sharp, Pam Dawson and Lee Bristow. Stickney 4 (60), Woodhall Spa Town 8 (71): The top two teams are well ahead of the pack, and swapped positions after this game. Woodhall, with a 23-10 from Denis Hoyes, Terry Cockerill and Cas Bradshaw, and a 18-13 from David Bradshaw’s rink, gave the visitors the aggregate points to take them top on 46 points with Stickney following on 42.

3 Wood Section Division 3

Jubilee Park 12 (90), Boston Park 0 (52): Jubilee Park move up to fourth as a result of this win with 33 points. A good win of 32-12 was recorded for J Sharpe, K Manley and J Wyatt. Boston Park came close on one rink but remain seventh on 16 points.

BBC II 9 (86), Sleaford Road 3 (56): A 36-10 from A Houlden, P Desforges and A Mason helped BBC to a win that places them fifth on 29 points. Sleaford Road are eighth on 14 points with Bill Earth and John Riches steering their rinks to the points.

Mareham Le Fen 10 (78), Wrangle 2 (50): Mareham are now top on 42, with a good win for Ann Wickens, Shirley Kennedy and Alan Moore at 25-8. I cannot tell you who won the points for Wrangle, as that side of the sheet is blank. Wrangle now have 34 points and are third. West Skirbeck 8 (68), Sibsey B 4(60): Skirbeck move up to second on 36 points, after a better result this week. Rinks skipped by Robbie Rutherford (19-11) and John Stevens (23-18) did enough to get the aggregate. T Harrison and Gordon Wells helped their rinks to gain the 4 points for Sibsey who are sixth with 24 points.

3 Wood Section Division 4

Wyberton 10 (79), Kirton 2 (44): A convincing win for Wyberton takes them to third place with 24 points. Mick Dodes, Ivan Kisby and Alex Seaton won 26-8. Kirton are fourth with 22. Friskney 8 (66), Donington 4 (61): This was a narrow win for Friskney in a game with no big rink wins. Friskney are sixth with 10 points but have only played twice. Donington are second with 28 points. Woodhall Spa Town lead the division with 30 from 4, Sibsey C are sixth with 6 from 4.

Round-up for week ending June 6

A number of results are missing this week. Some matches will have been postponed due to the rainy conditions, some results will be on their way, and some will have been left behind the clock on the mantelpiece and have been forgotten.

2 Wood Section Division 1: Burton House 12 (98), Kirton 0 (64): In a promptly rearranged week 2 match, Burton House convincingly beat Kirton. One rink won by 2, two rinks won by 9 and the biggest win was a 27-13 from Baz Richardson, Maurice Kemp & Richard White. Burton House 10 (106), BBC I 2 (63): The previous night Burton House had played BBC who were two players short. This led to rinks wins of 39-12 and 37-8. BBC managed two points from A. Buxton, G Tooley and R West. Being short of players meant that realistically the best that BBC could do was to get 4 points. As the game was against a team that could be challenging them for the title, the event may well be significant. Leading positions: Burton House P 4, Pts 35; BBC I P 4, Pts 34; Sleaford Road P 3, Pts 30; Bicker P 3, Pts 21; Kirton A P 3, Pts 14; Wigtoft P 3, Pts 10; Wyberton P 3, Pts 9; West Skirbeck P 3, Pts 4.

2 Wood Section Division 2: No results submitted.

2 Wood Section Division 3: BBC II 10 (67), Norprint 2 (64): This was another close game where the result might have been very different. There were two draws, unusual in itself, with the winning rinks skipped by Bill Mortlock (16-14) and Phil Markham (18-17) being worth 6 points each as it turned out. Leading positions: BBC II P 5, Pts 34; Freiston P 4, Pts 32; Norprint P 4, Pts 27; Woodhall P 4, Pts 27; Sleaford Road P 4, Pts 17; Kirton B P 3, Pts 7.

3 Wood Section Division 1: BBC I 8 (53), Norprint 4 (49): A modest win for the league leaders with a 20-6 from M Stares, J West and S Whyers being enough to overtake Norprint’s 19-7 from B Mellor, M Mellor and Baz Barton for the aggregate points. Sibsey A 2 (52), Burton House A 10 (74): A good win for Burton House with big wins from rinks skipped by Maurice Kemp and Steve Asplen. The consolation points for Sibsey were narrowly gained by Tracey Hodgson, Maureen Brammer and Sue Bridges. Wigtoft’s game versus Wyberton is re-arranged as Wigtoft are on holiday. Goodfellowship 8 (62), Kirton A 2 (62): Aggregate draws are rare, and even more rare where on side wins three of the four rinks. So the modest win by seven shots from Gordon Harris, Dave Gill and Geoff Parker was enough to balance out the one shot win from Alan Bristow’s rink, four shot win from skip John Templeman and one shot win from David Allen and partners. Leading positions: BBC I P 4, Pts 32; Burton House A P 3, Pts 30; Goodfellowship P 3, Pts 24; Wigtoft P 3, Pts 21; Kirton A P 4, Pts 18; Wyberton P 2; Pts 12; Sibsey A P 4, Pts 11; Norprint P 3, Pts 8.

3 Wood Section Division 2: Stickney 12 (95), Swineshead 0 (44): A massive 51 shot win for the home team ensures that they will remain near the top. The biggest winning rink was from Steve Shaw, Cliff Jupp and John Maury (32-8). Freiston 4 (55), Burton House B 8 (57): This was a match where the aggregate could have gone either way, the decisive win being a 19-9 for Burton House from P and D Vines skipped by Peter Horn. Castle 2 (47), Woodhall Spa Town 10 (58): A 19-7 from P Fox, N Wrigglesworth and K Robinson put the aggregate points beyond reach for Woodhall. N Burton, B Edwards and B Sweet got Castles only points 16-11. West End A 2 (42), West End B 10 (56): In one of many West End derbies this year, Janet Vinter’s team came out on top. According to the sheet Peter Tracey Played twice, so that may have been the cause. Leading positions: Stickney P 4, Pts 38; Woodhall P 4, Pts 38; Castle P 4, Pts 23; West End B P 3, Pts 19; Burton House B P 3, Pts 18; Freiston P 4, Pts 18; West End A P 4, Pts 15; Swineshead P 4, Pts 11.

3 Wood Section Division 3: Sibsey B 8 (88), Jubilee Park 4 (59): This was a good result for Sibsey against a strong Jubilee Park side. Three rinks were quite even, the difference being made by the 32-6 for K Bourne, I Stimson and R Smalley for Sibsey. Mareham Le Fen 10 (78), BBC II 2 (56): Mareham surge closer to the top, helped greatly by a 24-9 from D Sanderson, J Smith and Pete Smith. West Skirbeck 2 (45), Wrangle 10 (71): Leaders fell heavily at home to Wrangle, who now go top. Notable was a 27-4 win for Wrangle by Jill and Russ Rousell with Ian Drury. Skip John Stevens got the two points for Skirbeck, who will no doubt be disappointed. Leading positions: Wrangle P 4, Pts 32; Mareham P 4, Pts 32; West Skirbeck P 4, Pts 28; Jubilee Park P 4, Pts 21; Sibsey B P 4, Pts 20; BBC II P 4, Pts 20; Boston Park P 3, Pts 16; Sleaford Road P 3, Pts 11.

3 Wood Section Division 4: Sibsey C 0 (43), Kirton B 12 (97): This is a result from week 2 that has been caught in a time warp at Sibsey. The biggest winning rink for Kirton was R Woods, J Adcock and D Little with a 32-8. Woodhall Spa Town B 10 (49), Sibsey C 2 (28): In a game that looks as though it was shortened due to the weather, there were convincing wins for the home team from rinks skipped by T Cockerill (15-4) and C Smith (16-3). R Dennis’ rink won 13-7 for Sibsey. Donington 8 (86), Wyberton 4 (53): This re-arranged week two match shows a good win for Donington with a 36-5 from captain Trevor Williams, Maurice Allen and Geoff Simpson. Leading positions: Woodhall B P 4, Pts 30; Donington P 3, Pts 24; Kirton B P 2, Pts 20; Wyberton P 2, Pts 14; Sibsey C P 4, Pts 6; Friskney P 1, Pts 2.

Round-up for week ending May 30

After the third  full week of the season, BBC head the first divisions of both the 2 wood and 3 wood sections. During this week last year, no games at all had been played due to heavy rain.

2 Wood Section Division 1: BBC I 12 (97), Wigtoft 0 (66): BBC won convincingly on rinks skipped by Alan West and Ted Vere, with the other two rinks being close. Wyberton 2 (83), Sleaford Rd 10 (98): Another good win for the away team keeps them close on the heels of the leaders. Home points were gained for A Westrup, P Flatters and D Heron (31-9), but this big win was not enough to get close to the aggregate. Kirton A 10 (111), W Skirbeck 2 (76): A convincing rink score of 39-11 for the home rink Darren Little, Ray Woods and Dave Gill set the tone for this match, with only Janet Whyers, Ivor Roberts and& John Stevens 27-19 getting any points for Skirbeck. Burton House 11 (105), Bicker1(78): Burton House, with the customary match in hand, were too much for a strong Bicker side. Big wins for skips Tony Powell and Mick Asplen, with a more modest one for Bob Askey were only matched by a draw between rinks skipped by Ken Porter (Burton House) and Roger Wing (Bicker).

2 Wood Section Division 2: Swineshead 4 (74), Woodhall Spa Town 8 (95):  Another good win for leaders Woodhall. Rink points were shared, but big wins of 23-12 by D Crabtree and partners and 28-12 for George Salmon’s rink ensured the aggregate. Sibsey A 0(77), West End B 12(93): Still without a point after 2 games, Sibsey were unlucky not to pick up some points against second placed West End B Three rinks were close, losing by 3, 2 and 1 shots, but a 27-17 win for Sally Hippisley, Keith Swain and John Fensom was more convincing. We have no result for West End A v Burton House B, assumed cancelled and Jubilee Park had a bye.

2 Wood Section Division 3: Freiston 10 (109), BBC II 2 (78): In this small division, where the teams will play each other three times, Freiston are the early leaders. A convincing 34-9 win from M Smith, H Philpott and J Walker was notable. Sleaford Rd 2 (74), Woodhall Spa Town 10 (89): Another good win for second placed Woodhall away at Peck Avenue. Fran King’s rink picked up the consolation points with a 26-15, but R Crick, I Aitken and C Bradshaw bettered this with a 31-17 for WST.

3 Wood Section Division 1: Kirton A2 (64): BBC I 10 (70): This was a close game that could have gone either way. The Little- Woods- Gill rink again won for Kirton, this time by 6 shots, whereas Ted Vere’s rink won by 8 shots for BBC. Brian Grant’s rink won by 3, and Scott Whyers rink  by 1. The result takes BBC top. Wigtoft 9 (73),Sibsey A 3 (60): Wigtoft are second after this win over Sibsey A. Pete Clark, Peter Parker and Barry Freeston were the only Sibsey rink to win, a draw coming from skips M Clark (Wigtoft) v S Bridge (Sibsey). A 25-12 from P Clark’s rink and a 21-16 from G Wilkinson and partners sealed the points for Wigtoft. The other two games in this division were postponed. Thanks to those who kept me informed.

3 Wood Section Division 2: Burton House B 2 (59),Castle 10 (65): This game from week 2 was played Wednesday. Although there were only six shots in it, it was enough to get Castle the bulk of the points and take them to third position in the table. There were single shot wins on three rinks, with A Watson’s rink for Castle winning by 5. This was possibly one of those nights when people went home thinking “if only…” Castle 10 (78), West End A 2 (49): Castle had picked up another 10 points on Monday from this weeks game. This was not so close, with N Burton, P Ulyett and B Sweet winning 26-5, with only Mavis Ablard, Peter Myers and Geoff Barnes getting points for West End with a 25-12. Woodhall Spa Town 8 (72),Swineshead 4 (68): Only four shots separated the teams. Rinks skipped by B Connelly and B Crabtree for WST each won by 4, with M Nichols and partners, 3 shots, and L. Bristow’s rink winning, 1 shot, for Swineshead. Freiston 2 (65), Stickney 10 (79): A good win by Penny Giles, S Todd and Alan Peacock of 24-9 sealed the win for Stickney to send them second. We have no result for West End B v Burton House B.

3 Wood Section Division 3: Jubilee Park 4 (66), W Skirbeck 8 (69): Another close game sees West Skirbeck at the top of this division. Wins from skips Barry Bagley (21-12) and John Stevens (22-15), were nearly, but not quite matched by Jubilee Parks Frank Manley (17-13) and J Wyatt (22-13). According to the sheet J Sharpe, K Manley and J Wyatt played for both sides. I am sure that this is a slip of the pen rather than a registration issue. B.B.C. II 12 (74), Wrangle 0 (54): Having got 22 points from the first two games, Wrangle come down to earth with a bump, but remain second. The biggest rink win for BBC was from Phil Markham, Billy Epton and Eric Lewis with 19-10. Mareham 10 (66), Sleaford Rd 2 (57): Back to form N Cartwright, Noel Bush and Jim Kennedy won 23-7 for Mareham, while Craig Spencer and Fran King helped Ted Bourne to a 23-11 for Sleaford Road. Sibsey B 10 (87), Boston Park 2 (54) A good win for Sibsey B with Jill Russell, Ann Wys helping Tony Harrison to a 30-16 win, with Boston Park’s rink of Brian Blackburn, Eileen Dorrington and Arnold Pape winning 15-13 for the consolation points.

3 Wood Section Division 4: As mentioned at the beginning of the season, a late withdrawal has left this league with very few games, which must be disappointing to those remaining. The only result to hand this week is Donington 4 (55), Kirton B 8 (57), a match yielding another very tight finish. A 22-10 win for J Fant, B Woods and J Adcock guaranteed the 4 aggregate points for the visitors.

Round-up for week ending May 23

I suspect that this week, a few games were rearranged so that people could watch the football, and also I would not be surprised if captains found they could not get a team for Monday May 26 with it being a bank holiday.

2 Wood Section Division 1: West Skirbeck 2 (80), Sleaford Road 10 (93): Sleaford Road pick up their second ‘10’ at the expense of West Skirbeck, who continue to struggle. A good 27-15 win for Janet Whyers, Doug Staples and John Stevens got two deserved points for the home team. Wyberton 4 (80), BBC I 8 (97): A game with high scores, the aggregate points being won for the visitors rinks skipped by Rod West (30-15) and Jonathan West (35-19). Bicker 10 (100),  Wigtoft 2(63): Bicker made the running in this division for most of last season, before being pipped at the post. A solid win here with a 32-12 win for Dave Allerton’s rink, and two other rinks scoring 27 shots.

2 Wood Section Division 2: Jubilee Park 0(65) – Woodhall Spa Town 12(103) This was a surprising full house for Town in this Woodhall derby game. Rinks skipped by John Gee and R Dales both scored over 30, and only Craig Aitken’s rink came close for the Park, losing by only two. Swineshead 2(71), West End A 10(96) A tidy win for the visitors, with only E May, J Mews and R Turner winning for the home team. West End B 12(101), Burton House B 0(61): A good result for West End against a strong Burton House team. Three rinks were close, but a 34-7 in favour of Sally Hippisley, Keith Swain and John Fensom ensured a large aggregate win.

2 wood section division 3: Sleaford Road 11 (87), Kirton B 1 (65): A pair of narrow wins and  27-11 from Tony Bush’s rink together with Debbie and Neil Harrison and Bill Earth getting a draw earned the bulk of the points for Sleaford Road. Woodhall Spa Town 8 (114), BBC II 4 (76): This game was notable for a score of 49 recorded by L Patterson, A Brown and E Brown for WST and a 32 recorded by D May’s rink for BBC. Norprint 12 (108), Freiston 0 (70): Solid wins for the Norprint rinks skipped by R Loughran, J Stainton, R Hulley and B Trigg against a Freiston side I would have expected to sneak a few points.

3 Wood Section Division 1: Kirton A 2(61), Burton House 10 (64): Although champions Burton House gained most of the points, the scores were close. Wins of 4 for Jean Cammacks rink, 3 for Ken Porter’s rink and 4 for Maurice Kemps rink only just outweighed Brian Bates, Brian Bannister and Dave Gills reply of 20-12. In fact the win was by 3 shots rather than the 7 on the sheet. Goodfellowship 6 (65), Sibsey A 6(59): Another tight game, though this time a six-shot win only managed to get six points. Sibsey won three rinks narrowly, but the rink of P Rate, R Allen and D Allen won by 26-7, which was enough for the rink points and the aggregate also. Wyberton 10 (70), BBC 2(62): Three home wins, including a 25-17 from Bun Reeson, Tina Reeson and Dave Heron were enough to beat a creditable 22-10 for BBC from M Staires, Jonathan West and Scott Whyers who beat a strong home rink. Norprint 2 (62), Wigtoft 10 (65): This was a very close game, with the biggest rink win being 2 shots, and the all important 4 for the aggregate going to the visitors. It could easily have been very different.

3 Wood Section Division 2: Woodhall Spa Town 10 (86), Freiston 2 (56): A home 30-11 from Ian Aitken, Dave Bradshaw and Dennis Hoyes and a 21-12 from Paul Fox, Ken Robinson and Ruby Salmon helped towards a 30 shot win, with Barry Nightingale’s rink getting the consolation points for Freiston. Swineshead 3 (63), West End A 9 (80): A 24-11 win for skip R. Blackamore and a 25-16 for Geoff Barnes’ rink help the away team to success. West End B 7 (76), Stickney 5 (70): J Dews, Norman Ablard and Pete Bedford ensured the aggregate points for West End by winning 32-10. Unfortunately Stickney fielded a player who was already registered with another club, so the committee must rule on the validity of their points. Rule 22 clear states that ‘a player may represent only one club.’

3 Wood Section Division 3: Mareham-Le-Fen 10 (85), Sibsey B 2 (47): Mareham recorded a good win at home, with a lot of their big name players on show. Big wins on three of the home rinks, including a 32-7 from Noel Bush and partners, netted the points but there was a very good win for Sibsey from K Bourne, George Bulman and Barry Thompson (24-7) against S Kennedy, John Bontoft and Jim Kennedy who are usually a handful on their own ground. BBC II 4 (63), Jubilee Park 8 (65): Games don’t come much closer than this. Big home wins for skips A Mason (19-8) and J Meads (26-10) were bettered by Jubilee Park’s skips of F Manley (30-9) and D. Oldroyd (17-9). Boston Park 4 (61), West Skirbeck 8 (66): Rinks skipped by C Hill (21-12) and G Merlo (21-19) won for the Park, but the reply of C Hoyles (15-10) and L Stevens (20-9) ensured the aggregate points. Wrangle 12 (76), Sleaford Road 2 (54): Home wins for skips K Bailey (20-18), J Chappell (29-7) and J Skelton (19-7) ensured most of the points for the home side with Mick Brown, Peter King and Ted Bourne getting the 2 points for the visitors.

3 Wood Section Division 4: Wyberton 10 (70), Sibsey C 2 (57): This was a game from week 1 shows a steady win for the home team. Friskney 2 (70), Woodhall 10 (89): The Woodhall spa Town B team looks strong on paper, and so it proved on the green. Only Janet Booley’s rink posted any points for Friskney, with Woodhall rink of C Hawking, A Brown and E Brown winning 25-7 which ensured the four aggregate points.

We finish with a reminder to all clubs to destroy old results sheets that do not have my name on them. You should have enough for this season, but if you want any more please contact me.

Round-up for week ending May 16

In contrast to last year, the start of the league season has been played in fine weather. It is hoped that this continues, and that the struggles of last year are not repeated.

2 Wood Section Division 1: Bicker 9 (117), Wyberton 3 (86): A good win for Bicker against a Wyberton team who are slightly short on players. The rink of A Slaughter and R Bourne, skipped by Wayne Phoenix, picked up two full house scores of 6 in their 40 shots to 9 rink score. Sleaford Road 10 (89), Burton House A 2 (68): Last year’s champions get off to a good start against last year’s runners-up. Wins from skips R Hall (27-13) K French (23-18) and A French (26-15) were enough to beat the reply of 22-13 from Mick Asplen’s rink. BBC I 12 (125), West Skirbeck 0 (52): Promoted teams often struggle to find their form in this strong division, with West Skirbeck heavily beaten on all rinks. Wigtoft 8 (89), Kirton A 4 (87): This very even game had no rinks winning by more than six shots, and no doubt there were many woods that could have overturned the aggregate of two.

2 Wood Section Division 2: Due to a team dropping out after the fixtures had been completed, Burton House B had a bye this week. West End B 8 (92), Swineshead 4 (89): A very close result with a 28-13 for B Bambridge and partners for the home team being pipped by a 33-16 win for Swineshead by B Turner’s rink. One narrow win each resulted in the 4 aggregate points going to West End. Jubilee Park 8 (108), West End A 4 (80): Remarkable in this game was a 42-11 win for H Welburn against a two-man West End rink. Woodhall Town 12 (116), Sibsey A 0 (74): A flying start for a strong Woodhall team who narrowly missed out on promotion last year. One rink was particularly high scoring, with J Bradley, D Hoyes and R Dales scoring 35 shots for the home team, with D Smith, P Truepenny and T Harrison replying with 23, which would have generally been enough to win.

2 Wood Section Division 3: Due to some teams having withdrawn, this division consists of six teams playing each other three times. The extra game generated was played in the week starting May 5. Kirton B 2 (66),  Freiston 10 (82): There were good wins for the away team for the rinks of Barry Nightingale, Derek Hunn and Jim Walker with a good reply for Kirton from Sandra Copeland’s set. Woodhall Spa Town 9 (100), Norprint 3 (83): A good start for Woodhall. The rink skipped by Lou Trotter won heavily for the home team, with J Stainton and partners the only winners for Norprint. Sleaford Road 2 (77), BBC II 10 (102): Notable was a 34-11 win for the home rink of R Hudson, C.Medcalf and D May. In the games played week starting May 12, we had the following. Freiston 12 (122), Woodhall 0 (56): Three big rink wins, including a 40-9 for skip Sandra Tebbs net all the points for the strong Freiston team. Kirton B 4 (87), BBC II 8 (91): Another good win for BBC II, but by a narrow margin. Rob Goodale’s rink won by 8, and Bill Mortlock’s by 7, with replies of 7 from Sandra Copeland and 4 from K. Gomm. Norprint 10 (90), Sleaford Road 2 (71): Narrow results were attained on three rinks, with a 26-14 from M McLean, D Allenby and J Stainton ensuring the aggregate for Norprint.

3 Wood Section Division 1: BBC I 12 (87), Sibsey 0 (52): Last year’s Division 2 champions Sibsey got off to a disappointing start against last years runners-up BBC I. Big wins were recorded for the rinks of Scott Whyers, Ted Vere and Richard Lewis with a more modest win from Brian Hooker’s set. Burton House A 10 (67), Wyberton 2 (56): Narrow wins for the rinks skipped by Bob Askey and Mick Asplen for the home team were more than matched the 17-6 win for Wyberton from Maggie Kisby, Andrew Limb and Mick Dodes but the 22-8 recorded for Burton House by Richard Whitaker, Jean Cammack and Steve Asplen ensured the aggregate. Goodfellowship 10 (62), Norprint 2 (49): Norprint escaped relegation last year with the last game of the season, and may struggle again this year. Wigtoft 2 (62), Kirton A 10 (82): A good result from newly promoted Kirton A over a Wigtoft team who, I gather, are short on numbers, but still very strong.

3 Wood Section Division 2: West End A 2 (52), Freiston 10 (76): Freiston posted a solid 23-6 result from Richard Sharp, Sandra Tebbs and Barry Nightingale, with Noleen Sharp, Malcolm Rogers and John Sellers getting the consolation points for West End. Woodhall Spa Town 10 (73), West End B 2 (56): Only two points again for West End, this time from John Fensom’s rink. P Fox, G Salmon and K Robinson scored heavily for the home team. Stickney 11 (72), Castle 1 (42): A disappointing start for newly relegated Castle against a beefed up Stickney side. There were good wins for the home side from skips Alan Harrison and Jeff Nicholson and their partners. Swineshead 4 (59), Burton House B 8 (70): The other relegated side fared better by winning the aggregate points, mainly due to a good 8-23 win from Peter Horn with Mr & Mrs Vines.

3 Wood Section Division 3: Sibsey B 0 (59), Wrangle 12 (75): This was closer than it looks, with no rink winning by more than 6 shots. A few good woods could have made all the difference. Sleaford Road 7 (72), Jubilee Park 5 (62): On this occasion, the 10 shot difference produced an even result, with the rink of T Taylor, Bill Earth and John Riches producing a 27-6 result to win the aggregate. West Skirbeck 10 (89), Mareham 2 (38): Newly-promoted Skirbeck got off to a good start with convincing wins from the rinks skipped by John Stevens (26-5), Lorraine Stevens (23-9) and Robbie Rutherford (28-10), with Pete Smith’s rink getting the remaining points for Mareham. No result for Boston Park v BBC II

3 Wood Section Division 4: A note of apology is due here. The late withdrawal of a team has meant that each team will play only 10 games. It was not possible at this late stage to rearrange anything, but next season the divisions will again be restructured. As a result of this withdrawal, Kirton B and Friskney had bye weeks. Donington 12 (69), Woodhall B (54): Although only 15 shots separated the teams, there were narrow wins on all rinks for the home team. Again the biggest winning margin was 6 shots. No result has arrived yet for Wyberton v Sibsey C.
