Gold Tops figure highly in rankings

Boston and District Athletic Club members appear a total of 286 times in the latest East Midland Region Power of Ten track and field rankings lists. The East Midlands region comprises the counties of Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire. The Power of Ten scheme lists the best track and field performances achieved during 2007. Even more remarkable is the fact that the Boston club (Gold Tops) have 93 performances occupying top 10 positions.

Most impressive are the under-15 boys with 48 individual performances included with 18 placed in the top 10 category. Of the 31 under-17 men’s performances, 12 are in the top 10 bracket with a further 31 under-20 men’s achievements adding another 11 top 10 placements. In the youngest age group, the under-13 boys, the 21 individual performances named included a single top 10 listing. Though less impressive than their male counterparts, the under-15 girls from the Boston and District club still appear 25 times with 11 in the top bracket. The same total number of BADAC athletes are included in the under-17 women’s section with eight of those in the top flight. There are 16 under-20 performers named with seven in the top category and the 14 under-13 girls listed included five top 10 places. The regional lists are completed with a further 48 male “all ages”, including 10 at top 10 level and 27 female achievements including another 10 in the top category.

These lists do not include the most recent open meeting performances and may well enhance the already impressive Barton and District Athletic Club regional rankings.

Six young Gold Tops completed in the Grimsby Open track and field meeting at the weekend. At under-15 level, Alex Pycock finished his 2007 track season with a fine double. He won the 100m sprint in 11.6 seconds and then went on to record 23.2 for victory in the 200m. Peter Spencer also won two under-15 boys events, recording 11.8 for 80m hurdles and 34.24m in the javelin. A shot of 11.17m added a second place for the England Schools pentathlete. Haden Brittain was third in the shot competition with a putt of 9.82m and added fourth positions in both javelin, 23.42m, and discus, 23.40m. In the under-15 girls category, Chelsea Brockett was second in high jump clearing 1.38m and finished fourth in 7.5m hurdles in 13.3 and 800m in 2:32.6. Two under-17 men completed at Grimsby.
