Round-up for March 18
Runners rise to cross country challenge
Runners
from the local area were involved in the third Fenland Schools Cross-Country
League match of the season — the latest event being held at Stamford’s
Burghley Park.
In the
Year 7 and 8 girls’ event, Boston High School’s Wednesday Pywowariw finished
fifth. Overall. Second finisher for BHS was Alice Flint, two places behind in
seventh spot. However, in the team competition, Boston High School were
unable to finish sufficient scorers to claim a position on the final league
table.
In the Year 7 and Year 8 boys’ section, Aidan McClure led the challenge of
Boston Grammar School. Crossing the finish line in 11th, he finished with 18
points to claim fourth individual league place. Behind him was Ben Thomas in
19th position. BGS also had Michael Craven crossing the line in 21st
place and Sam Johnson fifth. The BGS junior lads finished an encouraging
fourth place in the league team ranking list.
Louise Rutt, of Boston High, had maintained consistent performances in the
league series. She followed sixth place in races one and race two with an
improved fourth position at Stamford. A combined score of 16 points put
Louise in fourth position on the final individual league rankings. Ashleigh
Frankish had also competed in all three league matches. On the Burghley Park
course, Ashleigh entered the finish funnel in 14th place. A total
of 31 points earned her ninth position in the individual league places. There
was good support from Chelsea Ironmonger 28th and H Cook 60th.
Consistent performances over the whole series earned the BHS squad an
excellent third team place.
In the boys’ Year 9 and Year 10 competition, Aston Perrin led the BGS runners
home, recording his best position in the series. Claiming 10th
place, Aston was pressed hard by Craig Melvin who followed him into the
funnel for 11th position. Behind the leading duo, Robin Perrin
improved to 26th. A team points score of 214 gave BGS runners-up
position in the league team competition.
Three Boston Grammar School representatives have been included in the
Lincolnshire Schools Cross-Country team for the English Schools AA Cross-Country
Championships at Leeds on Saturday March 24. They are James Munn, Jeremy
Baily and Craig Melvin. Natasha Frolich, of Boston College, runs at senior
girls’ level.
