Week ending Sunday December 25:

Several local athletes and former track and field competitors are featured in the just-published and amended county age group records issued by the Lincolnshire Athletic Association.

In the under-15 boys category, Jake Mason leapt to prominence during the 2005 track and field season smashing two county records. The young Gold Top cleared 1.79m to set a new high jump best performance and for good measure added the pentathlon record to his name. A points tally of 2773 achieved at the Eastern AA Championships erased the previous Lincolnshire mark for the combined event.

Two former Boston College students also appear on the record list. George Antonatas represented Holbeach AC and produced a shot putt of 15.78m in 1195 to claim the under-20 men's record. Joe Eveling-White set the under-17 octathlon record of 4,897 points and the triple jump best performance of 13.76m in 2003.

In the women's under-20 list, Bernice Wilson holds two spring records achieved in 2003. Bernice has marks of 12.0 secs for 100 metres and 24.6 secs for 200 metres. She also retains the under-17 women's 300 metres sprint record with a time of 40.06 achieved in 2000.

Former all-rounder Sharon Wright still holds the under-20 women's long jump record with a 1995 leap of 5.59m. A year earlier Amy Nuttell created the best pentathlon points score for the junior girls category when she scored a total of 3,225 points.

More recently Rebecca Hall made her mark in the shot event. A 12.25m putt with the 3.25k implement in 2003 secured the junior girls best performance and 11.42m with the 4k version added the under-17 record in 2005.
There are a number of long standing records dating back to the 1960s and 70s.

Former international thrower and world strongest man contest winner Geoff Capes is listed in the shot with a magnificent 21.30m effort in 1977 and in the 2k discus when a 54.20m throw in 1978 made the records.
Longest standing record is the junior boys hammer with Trevor Minns’ throw of 49.48m in 1964 still the best for the age group.

Boston-based Chris Marshall retains the under-20 110m sprint hurdles record with his 1988 mark of 14.2 secs. And the late Phil Romaine produced the best senior men's 5,000m time in 1977 when he recorded 14 mins 07.0 secs in 1977. An outstanding all-rounder Alan Rudkin still holds both under-15 (47.94m) and under-17 (48.28m) discus records and also claims the under-17 shot putt best performance with 16.64m in 1995.  Wayne Clarke also appears three times in hammer categories with 59.98m under-17 in 1993, 62.16m under-20 in 1995 and 61.00m at senior level.

Johnathon Mitchell of Spilsby holds the under-15 boys 3,000m record with 8 minutes 59.6 seconds achieved in 2001. Matthew Twigg still holds the under-20 discus best with 47.90m recorded in the 1990s.  Boston and District AC Club training continues today (Wednesday), 5pm to 7pm and on Monday (January 2) from 6pm to 8pm.
