Representatives from Boston schools achieved major successes in claiming five of the eight team titles at the Holland District Schools Cross-Country Championships at Spalding. In particular, Boston Grammar School entrants were supreme in all four boys’ age groups, in the process achieving a clean sweep of the team accolades.

Meanwhile Boston High School Years 8 and 9 representatives carried off the junior girls’ team championship.

The overall individual titles went to proven cross-country performers. James Munn, of Boston Grammar, won the senior boys’ race with ease, finishing almost two minutes ahead of his closest rival. Two Boston High School runners also won their events. Alice Flint took her first Holland title when she finished 1 minute 44 seconds clear in the Year 7 race. In the junior girls’ championship Ashleigh Frankish led in a trio of BHS representatives to secure the Year 8 and 9 titles.

Elsewhere, Alex Gibb of George Farmer took the intermediate boys’ title, Tom Rogers (Gleed Boys) won the junior championship, Becky Wycherley (St Guthlac’s, Crowland) won the intermediate girls’ event and Emily Moss (Spalding High) won the senior girls. Haven High Technology College’s Mantas Knisevskis was a clear winner and proved a worthy Holland under-13 champion.

In the senior boys’ team event Boston Grammar scored 14 points to win comfortably ahead of Boston College (48). The senior girls’ race was dominated by Spalding High School. Lucy Nell followed team colleague Emily Moss into the finish funnel and set the SHS team well on their way to victory.

Boston Grammar won the intermediate boys’ race with 64 points while George Farmer (87) was second and Gleed Boys (94) came third. St Guthlac’s (83 points) won the intermediate girls’ competition while Gleed Girls (104) were second and Middlecott (123) finished third. On home ground, Tom Rogers won the junior boys’ contest with ease, and Boston Grammar took the team event with 47 points ahead of Gleed (96) and St Guthlac’s (136).

In the junior girls’ championship, Boston High School runners filled the first three individual positions for a resounding 36-point victory total. Runners-up were George Farmer (129 points), with Gleed third (134).

In the Year 7 event a team points total of 105 gave BGS their fourth district title ahead of Gleed (124) and George Farmer (152). Alice Flint (BHS) ran away with the Year 7 girls’ event, with Middlecott School’s P Martin second. George Farmer won the team title (80 points) with Spalding High (108) second and Boston High (116) third. The first 12 finishers in each race have been selected to represent Holland District at the Lincolnshire Schools’ Championships at Spalding on January 20.

A total of nine youngsters from the Boston area took part in the Lincolnshire Athletic Association Sportshall team trials at the Princess Royal Sports Arena on Sunday December 10, the entrants competing in various age groups. At under-13s level, two Boston and District Athletic Club members turned in good performances despite the pair both being at the younger end of their age range section.
