Round-up for April 9
James secures county schools
title accolade
A
contingent of 11 young BADAC representatives returned from the
Kingston-upon-Hull Athletic Club open meeting with nine medals and four
personal best performances being their return. The meeting provided a feast
of hammer throwing with the top throwers in the UK assembled across the age
groups and the BBC’s Paul Dickinson providing the commentary.
Boston and District AC had three throwers involved at the hammer circle and
at under-15 level Jade Mason turned in an excellent display. As the
competition progressed she improved throughout and moved up to second place
behind the UK ranked number one in the fifth round. Her best throw of 36.05m
gives her a good platform for the 2007 season.
In the boys’ competition, Haden Brittain was third with a personal best throw
of 22.01m. Stephanie Hendy opened her account with 27.34m in the under-17
ladies event.
In the under-17 men's high jump, Jake Mason cleared the English Schools Track
and Field championships entry standard height in his first competition of the
season. He won with 1.90m narrowly missing 1.95m.
The pole vault event was held
indoors in the training hall and saw Jake Brittain set a new personal best
feat of 2.60m to secure third place in the under-15 boys’ competition.
Moving up to under-17 level this year, Michael Robinson achieved a personal
best 1.50m clearance in high jump. Two under-20 Gold Tops collected three
medals between them. Mark Bridges achieved 12.37m to win the junior men's
triple jump and went on to claim second place in long jump with a leap of
6.02m. Simon Robinson's best jump of 5.89m gave him third position in the
long jump event.
A number of other BADAC representatives made promising starts to the new
season.
Haden Brittain was fourth in the under-15 boys shot with a personal best distance
of 9.10m. Jake Brittain performed a leap of 1.50m for fifth position in high
jump and Chelsea Brockett’s 1.35m clearance gave her third place in the
under-15 girls’ high jump. Chelsea also competed in the long jump and
recorded 3.78m for seventh position. In the same age group, Melanie Bristow
was fourth in high jump with 1.30m and ninth in long jump with 3.76m.
Stephan Brockett claimed a third in the under-17 men’s high jump with 1.55m
and a long jump of 4.50m gave him eighth place. Michael Robinson's best long
jump of 4.68m earned him seventh position.
Entries for the Lincolnshire County Track and Field Championships close in
the next 10 days. The championships are at Grantham on May 12 and 13 for all
age groups from under-13 boys and girls upwards.
